@SP: I stated, publicly and repeatedly(before the site made the mistake of making him a Global Mod), that Mikey is incapable of being a good Mod, because he is blatantly biased in favor of homosexuals. While I love being right, I'm sorry that you had to suffer so much to come to the same conclusion. And Sakura is a joke, he should be shunned by everyone equally. To me, he is really annoying. And if I were homosexual, he would probably annoy me even more, because he is like an absolute living gayboy stereotype.
Furthermore, the idea that you would get a warning in our Clan thread is completely unacceptable. I strongly recommend that you take it to Lesurgo and try to have it overturned. This thread is *our* territory, no one elses. I don't go into dumb threads like Gaymers or Magic Coffeehouse and cause trouble for them(as much as I'm tempted to sometimes). It is unacceptable beyond definition for someone to give you a warning here, especially for something so completely pointless. And as I was saying, this is *out thread*. Nobody elses. If they don't like what we have to say, they can not read it. That would be that much better, frankly.
This may be your thread, but it is still part of the main site. As such, flaming of another user is not tolerated, and I believe you know this. You are correct in that people do not have to read that which they find objectionable, but you do not have to compound the problem by insulting another person. This is still a public area, no matter how much you wish it otherwise. Infraction issued. -AoK
Don't worry about it, that's what I figured would happen. I don't care about some warning/infraction/whatever. If it standing up for a friend/what I believe in means getting an infraction, then, so be it. It's unfortunate that this place has become so uptight and pedantic that you can't even air your true feelings in the Clan thread now, but, it's not that surprising.
I do find it ironic that anyone is trying to take issue with the tone that was being used. When Dave told us that he had gotten busted drunk driving etc. again, *everyone* was significantly more harsh against him than anything that has been said against Sakura. Of course, no Mods cared about that. The double standard being applied here is pitiful, but, there's not much that can be done.
Honestly, I've become so disgusted with the terrible moderating on this board in the last 6ish months that my posting has become significantly depleted. I really only post in here and in mafia, and if this is the way of things, I'll doubt I'll even post here much. And it's ******** anyway. The amount of sexually inappropriate content in the Gaymer's thread is enough to make anyone blush, and the posts in Magic Coffeehouse are, literally, 99% spam. But apparently that's all fine, it's just not fine to point these tinhgs out, or point out the lack of moderator consistency inherent in nothing being done about it.
Whatever, I've said what I wanted to say. No one really cares anymore anyway.
At any rate, don't worry about it. I've taken this fight to AoK's Moderator thread, where it will continue until people actually receive fair treatment. Which is clearly not what is actually happening.
I've been lurking in the mafia forum, reading all the games, etc, and want to play again, but I am pretty bad at it and usually end up lurking. I don't do it intentionally; time just passes more quickly than what it feels like. Although, I do plan on getting into a game or so before my hosting duties come up, mostly as a refresher, I guess. I think I'll make a better host than player.
I've tried sticking to the custom cards section of the site, but unless you're either in the FCC, an already established card maker, or are new to the site, people don't comment on your cards. The forum has been becoming increasingly less fun, and I had thought that the clan thread was the last safe haven.
THat was funny Diggs....I kept reading your post and seeing you refer to yourself and all I could think of was the Seinfeld episode where they are in the gym and "Jimmy likes the way Elaine looks. Jimmy was thinking about asking her out, but was afraid he wasn't her type."
All of this hoo-haa about a certain member is just making their need for attention be filled. Done.

The thing that irks me a bit is that I was curious as to why S_P got the suspension. When he explained why he got the suspension, in a rather mild tone I might add, he got an infraction. That hardly seems fair as it wasn't a bashing flame fest it was simply answering a question. Now I'm curious as to what Ria was refering to a few posts up, dare I ask for fear that he too will get an infraction?
Perhaps I exagerate...perhaps not. I don't know the state of this site or what changes have occured in the past six months. I don't visit gaymers or coffeehouse and have rarely ventured outside our clan thread. I'm just content to chill in our clan thread.
EDIT: Chris, added some things to my list based on your post. Thank you! I read it to sammy and she made some notes as well. Also thanks for the link. I'm pretty sure having tens of thousands of people partying in the desert means it's really hard to truly be "leave no trace", since a good 1/4 of them are probably completely ignorant and have never even BEEN camping in their life. You would likely laugh at the whole process, especially people calling it "camping" or suggesting that it's possible to leave no trace in such a situation.
Tens of thousands? You're right that I don't think it is possible to leave no trace. Best you can do is "plan ahead and prepare", which is what you're doing, and "despose of waste properly," which is just cleaning up your own trash (and others if you feel inclined). Not really possible to do anything else. I suspect that such a large congregation would have organizers that localize sanitation requirements such as latrines, however I would still bring your own toilet paper as the stock and quality provided is rarely sufficient for personal use.
I also can't imagine a camping trip costing $4000. I can't fathom the gear requirements nessisary to acrew a cost of that estimate. I suppose if you purchase a new high tech SLR (like a Cannon 40D and a good lens) in addition to some camping gear, or a down payment on a camper, then maybe....but why? How long are you planning on camping, what are you going to be doing while there, and exactly what equipment are you buying for $4000?
I'm just curious as the suggested cost really really suprises me. I have some heavy duty camping equipment myself. Outdated and in need of repair but they were the best of the best when they were purchesed. Here's the cost of some of my gear.
Two man Tent = $250 (Cost a bit more than a one-man. But I don't intend to be hiking alone forever. Gotta find a gal who likes camping.)
Downy Zero degree Sleeping bag = $200 (Downy is better than synthetic bar none...costs are near doubled though.
Foamy = $50 (don't underestimate the power of a good foamy to keep the ground from sucking the heat out of you at night.)
Gerber Multi-use tool = $100 (Mine is a bit over the top, but a good multi-use tool is essential imo)
Gerber Flashlight = $50 (Its usefull to have a torchlight and a headlight with backup batteries. Make sure the headlight has some feature that makes it hard to turn on accidently. The cheap headlights have a habbit of acciently turning on and running out your batteries before you use them. Especially when you're on a midnight hike down a 14,000ft peak and find yourself off the trail and walking/sliding down a steep ravine.)
REI Backpacking Backpack = $250 (Get one with easy access side zippers. Otherwise you'll have to dig for everything. Also internal frame is much much better than external frame.)
Hiking Boots = $230 (I still haven't used these on a good hike. :'( )
Water filter system = $75 (I haven't used this either. I opt for purification tablets instead. A little silt and organic matter never hurt anyone.)
4x 1 liter nalgene bottles = $8 each (I got most of mine from the lost and found at scout camp...after the kids leave of course)
Cold Steel Buckskinning knife = $100 (I sleep with mine for protection. Never mind the small detail that my sleeping bag is so tight that I can't move my arms and am helpless by default. Thats called being a bear burrito. Course the knife cuts vegetables and splinters wood nicely.)
4 liter water bladder = $30 (I suggest two 2 liter water bladders instead of one 4 liter bladder as a rodent destroyed the great majority of my water supply in one night of chewing. I had two nalgenes with me and there were water sources around, but it was a nusiance having to wait the 30 minutes for my water to purify every time I wanted a drink. Also, freezing half of the water source can keep you cool but don't over do it. I let the heat get to me once on a strenuous mountain desert hike when I drank my water so fast I only had two liters of ice left and couldn't get at it. Ended up hiding in the shade with my water bladder resting in the sun just so I could get a sip or two.)
I should note that those costs are on the high end of whats available. Nick purchased a usable tent from wallmart for around $50.
Now food can cost a bit especially if you're planning on eating well. I suppose you'll bring ice but if things don't go your way 100% know that cheese can be out of the refrigerator for a few days and still be good even if you can mold it by hand. Meat can be out a day or two especially if initially frozen. Otherwise pound in salt or leave soaking in salsa to extend the life of meat for a long while. Slightly spoiled meat is still edible if cooked super well done. Eggs can be pre-broken at home and placed in a nalgene bottle and they can even be frozen to last longer. Bacon grease can be saved and used to lubricate, cook, and flavor everything.
Course if your going the way of one of my standard backpacking trips then ramen noodles and anything thats "just add water" is the way to go. Costs arround $5 or so a day if you play your cards right. I also love the snack of hard rolls and liquid easy squeese butter.

Well its not as liquidy as olive oil. More like a loose paste that becomes looser as it warms up. Besides, you try hiking with a heavy glass bottle of olive oil, it just doesn't work. Now if you placed a portion of that olive oil in a vial...well that could work I suppose. Mormons do it with their holy oil all the time. Course the amount they keep in that small vial around their necks might work great for exsorcising deamons, just wouldn't do jack when trying to cook.

Wow, Chris, that's a ton more information, thank you! I read the whole thing to sammy and we're going to take as much of it into account as possible. I may not be 100% prepared (I love to be uber prepared... like a Scout) but I'm going to have what I need to survive and have a good time doing it. I'll reply to the specific points you made later.
I could DEFINITELY spend $4000 if I tried. I've spent several hundred just driving around BORROWING all the stuff I need for this, and after I have to give it all back. I do want to invest in good camping stuff, but:
a) I haven't got enough money right now for that.
b) I don't know what exactly I need, other than the above stuff you listed which I bet is tip top.

Totally unrelated, but I'm getting some great leather boots soon. They're ordering them in my size (imported from Mexico actually) and they are absolute genius. 12 inches high with patterns on the sides and a pointed toe and everything. $180 new, imagine that!
Sucks on the truck. That's one of the few reasons I'm glad I don't have a license/vehicle.
Anyway, I was watching the kiddos for my sister while she got a shower today, and a neighborhood kid tried to stab my oldest nephew with a pocket knife. My nephew's sister came running in and told me, and when I went through the basement, my nephew was putting all of his weight against the door to try to keep this kid out. I'll never forget the look on my nephew's face; he was terrified and wasn't sure if he'd live or die. It's a look that should never be seen on a child's face. WTF are parents teaching their children nowadays?

No problem. If you have any more questions before you head feel free to ask. I love talking about camping and the gear that goes with it. Best thing about car camping is that you can over pack and it wont hurt anything. Just make sure you have the essentials down then bring whatever else you think you "might" need. Ah, I love life when weight is not an issue.
Most of my gear I listed is top of the line or high middle ground. For example the sleeping bag is a Generic REI brand. I would have loved getting a Marmot or Mountain Hardware, but thats between $400 - $500 for a good one. Thing is, I didn't buy my gear in one sitting. Its stuff I've accumulated over a decade of outdoor activity. One good way to do things is get some cheaper equipment to test the water and upgrade as things wear out and you get a feel for what you really need. Lots of stuff in the outdoor stores are just gimmicks that are neat but otherwise unnecessary.
Brand names make a big difference too, though by the time your spending several hundred the brand really comes down to personal opinion and even brand loyalty. I love Mountain Hardware, Northface, Gerber, Kershaw, and Columbia (clothing, their footware line is horrid!). I have a Northface Backpack thats been through hell and highwater for years and doesn't even have a thread out of place.
I have strong brand loyalties especially to Gerber and Northface. When a product of theirs impresses me its hard to move away. But I do purchase other brands to see if I'd like them. Thats why I purchased my Kershaw knife and I'm not dissapointed. Its even replaced my Gerber Multi-tool as the knife thats on me at all times. I'm curious about CRKT brand knives but I've not the funds to play with that right now.
Hey Dux, was the starship troopers trillogy any good. I'm tempted to purchase it if it is.
Charlie, whats with the cowboy boots? The only place they are in style is Japan, and its for the women.
Turtles are hatching here and there. I'll try to get pictures. Seems that the few times I did take pictures I had my shutter speed set much lower than I needed. Blurry turtles....blah.
Crunch time for job hunting. Only one month left and I've no prospects. Thats not a lot of time before I'm unemployed and homeless hiding in the Appalachians. Sounds like fun....

The third one went straight to DVD...I guess not. The first one had so much potential...nudity, cool monsters, cool effects with the armor and stuff. The second one was just terrible....and the third...well the statement above ay answer that one.

Interesting day at my nephew's (Lance) practice yesterday. He did extremely well. Very solid in his fundamentals and he forced a fumble in every tackle he made. This coming the day after his first game, one in which he played 1 play. The mentally retarded kid had played for almost an entire quarter.
Anyway, that wasn't the interesting part. My five year old nephew (Anthony) was running around playing tag with a girl who looked to be around 8-9 years old. They ran around together for a good hour and a half until she had to leave. He ended up going to a merry-go-round thing where the kids have to push it. There's a 10-11 year old girl on there that had been in his face all day, but I didn't think anything of it; if she would do anything to hurt him, he would have come over and said something. Anyway, Lance's practice is over, so I go over to get Anthony and the girl who's been in his face all day is holding her chest and saying, "Not my boobies." I tell Anthony it's time to leave, and the girl tells him to stop grabbing her boobs and butt all of the time. He tells her that she needs to not get in his face then, smacks her ass, and struts away. Funniest thing I've seen/heard in a while.
Infraction for boobie pinching! Man, it just runs in your family, doesn't it, S_P?

Totally unrelated, but I'm getting some great leather boots soon. They're ordering them in my size (imported from Mexico actually) and they are absolute genius. 12 inches high with patterns on the sides and a pointed toe and everything. $180 new, imagine that!
Have a good week guys. Back on the 1st.

My truck may be on its last legs. I am either going to have to replace a cylinder in the engine or go looking for a new vehicle.
Which sucks, because I just payed the damned thing off.

Cheers,
Daggertooth
For my heart had not denied me and I have somewhere to go.
I shall never be a prisoner of steel and glass and stone.
If I leave, I will return again to my Rocky Mountain home.

The third one went straight to DVD...I guess not. The first one had so much potential...nudity, cool monsters, cool effects with the armor and stuff. The second one was just terrible....and the third...well the statement above ay answer that one.
I have always wanted to see the little turtles scurry back to the water as the sea gulls swoop down for yummy snack!
I'll go with ya!!!
I'm gonna go stumble out of the thread now.......I need to make sure I get Dave's foilys in the mail.....don't wanna wake up one morning and find that my wife and daughter are gone!

Finished the next episode of the adventures of Mt. Grobot, you can check it out on NK. Phodos says he will post the higher-resolution version I pimp to him up tomorrow on Grobot's front page - much better for getting a look into the storm.
