@Chris: Like I was saying on the phone, I sincerely doubt that it will ever come to CC companies trying to instantly collect on everyone's cards. If it does, it will be at a point when the economy is so ruined that the average person is completely doomed already anyway.
Please consider these criteria when placing your votes for 1st and 2nd place: Fun (Did you laugh? Is there replay value?) New (Originality is key here!) Wow (Quality presentation or production values shine through!)
Deadline for submitting your vote is 12am Monday, October 20 AKDT.
I couldn't get Greek Alliances. Someone will have to look at that one and tell me if it's neato!

Just started a very big maths assignment. Lame.
For english we're doing a foregin film study, and I'm doing this thing with one foreign and one western (US/AUS/UK) film stating why they are worthy to include as good examples of certain genres to a film festival. I'm looking at psychological thrillers, and so far I have Perfect Blue as my foreign film. Any ideas for my Western one? I need to write the draft this weekend.
Well, if we can't vote for the self, I'll change that vote to the guys who played with the rat. That was awesomely funny
*w00t* /eds
The Greeks' entry is HILARIOUS, + a bit ballsy. Have yet to look at ARD's, it's a bit tl;dr but that makes me feel bad to say. [499]'s is fun, though, + appeals to the narcissist in us all
[499] gets first, hands down. I was sitting here trying to figure out which avatars belong to which people, after I made sure mine was there, of course. It was simple, yet really cool.
I don't really have a strong feeling for second. I suppose the Pack, but that's only because the rest of them didn't really do anything for me. Dimir's had microtext, Pages' had a planeswalker with only one ability, etc. There were just little things that bugged me. I do have to admit that I didn't listen to the Greek's yet, though.
I feel really guilty for not doing my part in this contest, especially since I promised I was going to write it. I got it half done then school/the kiddos took over. I should have at least posted what I had done. It would have been better than nothing. I do have to give Brian props, though. He really worked the rat. Would have been funny if the tail would have broken when he was holding it above his mouth though.
Anyone know anything about how the United State's involvement in Nicaragua affected the Nicaraguan economy?
Dude, you should know, the glass is always full. It's just not always full of water.
Not Necessarily. Course people do tend to over analyze that analogy. I like the zen thought and figured it would work well combined with that half full concept. Course I could have gone with another of my favorites:
There are three types of people in the world.
1. Those who say the glass is half full
2. Those who say the glass is half empty
3. and those willing to spit into their glass until the problem is solved.
I liked 499, but the project was to write a story. Unfortunately with my new mobile lifestyle I didn't bother reading anyone's story. Perhaps if I get time later.
Good luck with school work diggy and charlie. Don't get too bogged down.
Oh, and thanks Ria for merging those posts. Made everyone miss the Chris Farley reference without the title. Course at least you didn't warn me. :-p
I know I said I was going to be gone for a while. Well I figured one of my first stops would be the hyundai dealership. Wouldn't you figure the dang car wouldn't start. Luckily they have wifi so I'm not bored to death waiting here.
Had to scheduled an entire day around it too, considering I had to make an appointment. I was kind of worried my car wouldn't start last night where I parked it. Most camping spots being in the middle of nowhere.
I was still able to get a good morning hike in. Croaton National Forests here is known for being the only true coastal forest east of the mississippi. So of course I had to see it. Huge old growth cypress with their roots sticking out of the muck for air. Really hard to photograph that considering the mixed lighting. So I didn't do much landscape photography. I was stuck by the number of mushroom species in the area and I went all gonzo photographing them. I hate using flash, white washes the subject and gives for an uneven artificial light gradient, but I wasn't about to grab my tripod and give every fungus five seconds of fame. would have taken me forever. I made a bit of a collage of the mushrooms and full pics of some of my favorites.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

Wild Shrooms!! Nice post there Daggs! Sorry about your car = is what you get for buying a f'ing Hyundai..
Don't let school overload ya bro's.
I really don't have a vote in the clan contest. I am at work and don't have time to read them all atm. Sorry.
I picked up Indiana Jones (the new one) last night! Is pretty good. Done just like the other ones. I also picked up The History Channel's The Universe season 2, it is awsome! Is about outerspace, other planets/galaxys, black/white holes, etc.. I love that stuff!
I went out with a freind last night and he got into playing a cash poker game = I didn't get home until 4:30am. I have to wake up for work at 6am. I was kinda pissed. I am so damn tired.

Are you a pilot or a creator??
Tsk tsk dux. Sleepy for work isn't the way to go. Might paint someones car the wrong color or forget to install the engine.
I'm glad you liked the shrooms. I wonder if any of them are edible. Those red ones looked particularly psychedelic.
And Hyundai's are not that trashy!!! they are reliable and gas efficient and cost effective and well....who am I kidding. It was the cheapest new car out there and I wanted one. Or got talked into buying one at the first dealership I went into. Hey, its not my fault, they said the great deal they were offering me was a one time thing and if I left I wouldn't be able to get that deal!!! How did I know it was a great deal? Because the dealer told me that it was, duh! Didn't matter that five months later I was out of the country for a year and a half...
But the car does run fine. As it turns out the starting issue was the battery and I also needed the tires balanced. Not bad eh. Well somehow those two things cost $200! Apparently car batteries are expensive nowadays.
Ah well, something that needed to happen as there was a real threat that the car wouldn't start when I needed it to. And I couldn't very well go without a battery now could I?
So yeah, besides the car issue so far so good. Packed everything I own in my car last Monday. Took me 4 hours which really suprised me. For someone who doesn't own much thats worth something I seem to have collected a whole lot of junk. The trunk is filled with Text Books from my college days; hiking books for Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado; Random Maps for Philmont, Uninta Mountain range in Utah, and New Mexico's tallest peaks; Several DVD's of movies I've already seen; boxes and binders of magic cards including my Mirrage set, onslaught set, mirrodin set, and timespiral set; and four bags of seashells. The trunk is full and Even the back seats are loaded with stuff...the stuff I need right away like change of clothes, NC hiking books and maps, and food....but still it shouldn't be stacked as high as it is. Even the front passenger seat has stuff in it. How am I suppose to pick up some random scary hitchhiker without room...on a road trip its unthinkable!
Spent the first night on a beach overlooking a river at the trail head for the Neusiak trail...The premier backpacking trail of eastern North Carolina. Water was only a few feet away, but it didn't come up high enough to get me...though the amount of dew that collected caused everything to get wet. I packed that, boiled up Oatmeal...a new breakfast staple...Then set upon studying for that GRE. An hour into that A Forest ranger came by. I chatted with him for a good long time. Bulk of the conversation ended up being all about how I should only settle down with a woman 15 years younger than me....About 20 is a good age so I would have to be 35 before I settle down....otherwise the woman will hit menopause and slow down long before the man is ready for it. I think he was having some intimacy problems at home.
The initial plan was to through hike the 22 mile trail, but the friend who was going to park his car at the exit couldn't make it. I don't have time to try a 44 mile round trip so I guess I won't get to hike that trail. Sucks for me. I wont even be able to hike sections as I had to leave the trail head to get better cellular connection due to an anticipated important phone call.
Maybe sometime in the future. I might even be able to tackle the 900 mile Mountain to sea trail. But not anytime soon.
Anyway, the call was for a job interview in New Mexico just north of Roswell. It didn't go very well but thats fine, I've already worked in New Mexico.
Next stop on my way. Company Holloween party tonight. I'll be dressed as a Philmont camp staff.....because I happen to be wearing that right now. Then I'll head back to the Croatan National Forest. There are historical sights all over North Carolina and the coast that I've yet to see and the one thing I want to see before I leave the state is a Venus Fly Trap. Wish me luck. After that I'm heading down to Charleston, South Carolina where I'll meet up with some cousins and hopefully find some good hikes.
And since I have a little more time. Some more random pictures.
This is my pet Antlion. Maybe I'm evil or secretly sadistic, but there was strange pleasure found in dropping an ant into the funnel, watching it scurry up the crumbling side in vain, just to be knocked down by the rocks the antlion thew at the ant then grabbed and pulled down under the sand. I even made voices for the ant. "Ooh no, not the pit, don't toss me in the pit. Aaaaaah...help me, help me......*crunch*"
Kind of reminds me of when cartman plays "silence of the lambs" with his dolls.
This is what I did with the nests. I pulled everything out, put them into piles, and counted them. Number of unhatched, number of hatched, number of dead in nest, and so on. the electronic devices at the bottom of the picture are data loggers. They record the temp every hour or so of the nest. The reason is to know what the average temperature of the nest is and it's affect on the male:female ratio. Its important because relocating nests may have an unknown effect on the male:female ratio. And there are some calls by fishermen to relocate all nests because they don't want any section of the beach closed to fishing.
The size of a hatchling.
Run little hatchling. To the Ocean where its safe! well actually where everything that can see you will still eat you. but run anyway!
And...me holding a Fledgling Oystercatcher. Gave us a hard time, this one did. I had to escort people infront of the nest three times a day while this silly bird took its time growing up. But now hopefully its off flying somewhere south safe and sound.
Cheers all,
Daggertooth

I just hate Hyundai's b/c they are a ***** to get parts for..
From what I know from my shrooming days, the ones that are "shrooms" are found under cow patties. ..Talk about edible eh?

The Pack - all those cards had to be designed and shopped. Even if some of them are a bit weak in design, they did a LOT of work and I'm giving them first place. I enjoyed looking through all those designs. 499 was original but not very hard to do, nor was it something I'd bother looking at again. Izzet gets my second place. Their poem actually rhymed and had some great lines in it.
Geeeeez, great pics Chris. None of those shrooms looked psychoactive to me, but I only know how to spot a couple types easily. I'm sure at least some of them are edible, I just don't know which. Try frying some up in butter and garlic.... you're a risk-taker, aren't you? The antlion thing is pretty nasty. If that was 4 feet long, we're talking horror film.
DUX, plenty of shrooms grow on brown rice flour just fine. Cow dung is the old fashioned way.

So yeah...I picked this here wine tonight and enojyed it with a delicious tortellini. It was nicely crisp and rather tart but the fruit was appley and citrus with a clean finish. I'm the only one left sipping. I have no problems with that at all!:D:D

Another day for this, make yourself heard.
My newly-wed friend Matt had a bunch of us over to game, bit of multi-screen Halo3 insanity. I sucked adjusting to double-analog stick controllers, spent most of my time jumping around + throwing grenades, 'cos every time I'd go to shoot my gun, I'd either hit reload or, for some weird reason, also point my p-o-v straight up >_<
I died a lot. The Flamethrower is harder to wield than you'd guess.
*sets wall on fire*
*walks too close to walk while persuing*
*throws a grenade*
*jumps*
We also played a bunch more Settlers, but everyone conked out before we hit the Magics - it was only 1am!
eds-for-jj - meant to say, yeah, Penfold's is a decent inexpensive local plunk. We tend go the Annie's Lane, though. Oz wine is tasty, anyway
Any of you guys ever play EDH? I am currently getting heavily embroiled in it.
I am constantly tweaking and evolving my deck. It is much harder to cut cards from a 100 card deck than I thought.
We played an epic game at FNM last night, it was a 4 person free for all. The board was wiped...often. (Scourglass x2, Damnation, Wrath, Austere Command, Obliterate, Jhoklulhaups) I loved how my Chandra stayed alive after the red sweeper, making me still quite the threat. (Chandra got to 8, then died to a Reanimated Dragon.
I got to be second place, thanks to...having more removal than the guy that died a turn before me. (Three dragons on the board and I could deal with 2 of 3...but one was enough to kill me) Scion of the Ur-Dragon is a disgusting General. I need gravehate in my deck. :/
I did ok in FNM last night. Got 3rd and opened a Tezzeret and Canonist out of my prize packs.
I am going to attempt Bant control (Hierarch, Stoic Angel, Bant Charm, counters, etc) for Extended at my shop tomorrow. It will be terrible, I'm sure.
I got some card lots off Ebay for some silly reason. ("I'm sure I'll get some random EDH stuff!"
Nothing interesting in them really. I liked the Dark Tormod's Crypt I got...that was probably the only interesting card though. Some things are sort of playable in EDH, but not my deck. So eh. (If an auction guarantees X amount of rares, and they are older cards, you are getting Laces)

They've just started hosting EDH at my local, which is cool, 'cos I started reading up on it not long ago. New formats are rad.
Signups for Mafia are go, so Cyan, Diggy! Role pms can't be too far off. If everyone wants to use the batcave for discussion, that's cool, just remember I won't be participating 'cos I'm running the bloody pile.
Never played EDH but the premiss sounds really cool. I kinda miss the days of "free-for-all" magic! I used to have a Thursday night magic night with the boys. We would start playing around 6:00 pm after work and go until 2-3 in the morning. Fridays were always bad at work!! It was great though.....we would chat and fight and gang up....it was great!
SoooooOOOOooooo.....after more than 3 weeks of unemployment I seem to have found a job. It looks like I've been offered a job...the powers that be just need to figure out when I can start. If things go right I'll be pullin in a bit more than I was at my last....maybe I can pull myself back up to ground level with my debt. It's hard to take a cut to move from a job you hate and never get additional compensation no matter how much extra you put in. That was/has been a hard 18 months!
Thanks for all your positive thoughts during my hardship. I really appreciate everything you guys have put forth in me. Sorry I haven't been more active lately...it just seems I wanted to get my head back in the game before I continue posting more.
Daron......where the **** are my Shards cards!?!? I'm needin what I ordered from ya bro!

Good to hear you're playing more Magic, Seds. I've never played EDH but it must be fun, considering how much I'm hearing about it. We have some varied multiplayer types within my playgroup, we might have tried something similar before. I'll check it out.

The cards probably got swallowed up by THE US RECESSION.
EDWARD: The fourth branch of the government aka the media seems to have a retirement plan for ex-military officials, as if their opinion wasn't at ALL unbiased. A machine shouldn't speak for men, so shut the F*** UP you mindless drone! And you know it's serious when these same media outfits are spending millions of dollars on a PR campaign to try to convince you they're fair and balanced, when they're some of the most ignorant and racist people, giving that type of mentality a safe haven. We act like we share in the spoils of war that they do! We DIE in wars, we don't get the contracts to make money off 'em afterwards! We don't get weapons contracts, *****! We don't get cheap labour for our companies, *****! We ARE cheap labour, *****! Turn off the "news" and read, *****. Read.
Someone's behaving a bit rancorous today. There's no question that media can be biased and can direct thought. But I wouldn't say all American media is corrupt in that way and I don't think its anything near the fourth branch of our government. Hell, after this administration Its hard to imagine there being more than one branch. The house of representatives are a joke and represent nothing and congress is nothing but a bunch of bickering children. Course the president is a lame duck so...
But I digress, the only media you could really charge as being substantially biased is fox news. "Fair and balanced" indeed! they were designed by ultra conservatives as a propaganda tool for their personal agenda. Which is why you get folks like Sean Hannity. Media in general is biased, but not to the extremes most people seem to think. The Liberal Media Myth was propagated by fox news and other ultra conservative pundits to try to skew the media in their direction. Ultimately us Americans can still get a somewhat accurate picture if we use a variety of sources. CNN and "The News hour" are examples. Course they do pale a bit to outside sources. For some reason the American Media does have a hard time comparing to the BBC.
Great job getting that job JJ. Three weeks unemployment isn't that bad. Good to know theres demand for someone of your skill. I really hope this new job is funner than your last one. Nobody should have to suffer in a job they hate.
So I've been having a good time. Spent Three nights in the Croatan National Forest. Not a bad forest, but their signage really needs work. seriously, even roads that were paved were not labeled. I can understand logging roads not being labeled, but I crossed a railroad track with old and dilapidated signs that were not even on the map! Couldn't find anything I was looking for.
When night came I wend to the camp ground. Now when car camping I've no problem camping in designated campgrounds as long as I don't need to pay...much. I'll pay three to five dollars occasionally to help with the facilities I'll be using. Driving arround randomly typically used a gallon of gas or more anyway. Well this campground wanted $17 per vehicle! I'm one person looking for a spot to put my tent for one night, there's no way I'm forking over $17! So I went on random dirt roads looking for a good spot, something I prefer anyway. Had to do a 30 point U-turn when the narrow road got too muddy and some backtracking. Then suddenly I saw it, a faded path off to my left. Tire ruts with tall grasses growing in the middle. It made me a bit nervous so I hiked down it a little and found a perfect clearing within the pines. Probably the best camping spot I could hope to find. Path seemed level enough so I chanced it with my car. Didn't see the tree trunk in the middle which was covered by tall grass. I hate that scraping sound...no serious damage though.
I did go hunting for the Venus-fly trap. Apparently it is a lot more rare than I thought. It is one of the most commonly poached species on the coast and has a multi-million dollar black market around it. Most colonies of the species have already gone extinct and theres talk of putting it on the endangered species list. I probably wont see one on this trip. They only live in the carolina's in about a 100 mile radius from the North Carolina and South Carolina boarders junction with the coast. I'm in Charleston now and am not in the mood to drive back up that way. Took some pictures of Sundews though.
Not sure where I'll go from here. Trail hiking maps show a lot more down near charleston than I initially thought. No real hurry to head up to the Appalachians, but since I've no idea how long I'll be between jobs I need to make as much as I can with every moment. Can't waste a day exploring the east.
Oooh, Carnivorous Plants! Not all plants are Green. And not all Black are Zombies.
There were actually a lot of sundews around. In some places it was hard not to step on them, I tried not to. These are very closely related to the Venus Fly Trap and will slowly curl their leaves around their captured prey. Since these are not as Iconic as the Venus they have not been nearly poached to extinction.
I lost a lot of blood trying to photograph these guys. Marshy area's have a bountiful supply of mosquitoes and they love it when I kneel down and stay as still as possible to take a picture. I had revenge though, and the sundews had lunch.
There were actually suppose to be five genera's worth of Carnivorous plants where I was hiking. But all I found were the SunDews.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

Cheers,
Daggertooth

Daggs, if you travel back across the country make sure to let me know and stop by again for a night. I promise there are 2x FNM's within 15 min's from me now. ..And you are not allowed to use my shower. (j/k)
This 5x disk DVD of season two of The History Channel's The Universe is so f'ing awesome guys. I highly recommend it to anyone that finds outerspace an interesting topic. I cannot recommend it enough as the most high quality and most thorugh indepth look into all things about our Universe.

Awesome, I'm definitely going to check it out. Thanks for the review

Makes the night a little funner!

That's nice, you lush!
.
Anyhow....going to FNM tonight and play some type 2 for the first time since Shards hit the scene. I believe I'm going in with a Salvage Titan deck with Ornithopters and springleaf drums and artifacts and stuff. I'll post a list later!
jj
Sounds like a wild deck actually. Salvage Titan needs to be broked!
Going to the cabin for a couple nights. Just a quick trip to hang out, it's probably raining or snowing up there, won't stop us! Unless my car can't make it up the hills of course. Just me Curt and Rob. Back Sunday night

Nothing much on my front. School, Kristen, work, school, Kristen, work. That's about it.
2-The Pack
(Three dragons on the board and I could deal with 2 of 3...but one was enough to kill me)
Scion of the Ur-Dragon is a disgusting General.
Twitter
They've just started hosting EDH at my local, which is cool, 'cos I started reading up on it not long ago. New formats are rad.
Signups for Mafia are go, so Cyan, Diggy! Role pms can't be too far off. If everyone wants to use the batcave for discussion, that's cool, just remember I won't be participating 'cos I'm running the bloody pile.
Dave.....where ya been? Come on back brotha!
jj
Good job on voting, Brianalanalarnarln. Tell me about it s:symg:metime!
Good to hear you're playing more Magic, Seds. I've never played EDH but it must be fun, considering how much I'm hearing about it. We have some varied multiplayer types within my playgroup, we might have tried something similar before. I'll check it out.
* rancored_elf gasps *
You filthy man! Do you kiss your wife with that mouth? :o:mad:
Read.
.
Cheers,
Daggertooth
