I'll be honest- I'm not a huge WoD fan by any means, nor am I a fan of vampire romanticism in contemporary fiction (Anne Rice :swear:). However, years ago, I had a friend who was very into Vampire: The Masquerade, and educated me on all the various clans and such, and it intrigued me. With the right GM and game, I could probably get into it, I think (God knows emo supernatural dead people get a rise out of me, given my own game design projects), but having never really had the books myself and with everyone else I know being highly d20 oriented, I've just never had the chance, and probably never will.
Speaking of other games and systems- any other favorites?
I'm a fan of In Nomine, from Steve Jackson Games. Only been in one campaign, which sort of flopped, but I really love the rules system, flavor, and overall style of the game. I played a Cherubim of Jean, who was posing as a sort of Van Wilder-esque campus legend, had an unhealthy interest in both peppercorns and the Nintendo Wii, and was an expert in all varieties of homoerotic ancient Greek martial arts. I couldn't play it anymore if I wanted to, though- all my PDFs are on the hard drive of the system that crashed in January.
One of my favorite systems is Stickman. The rules are simple enough that I can describe them here. Characters have two stats, Power and Karma. Power is determined at character creation by rolling a d6. Karma is determined by subtracting a character's power from 7. Power is added to every roll to try to do anything, like attack or whatever. Players can spend a Karma point to add 6 to a roll, to change the DM's mind about something (within reason) or to heal a damage. Karma resets to the max each session. All characters have effectively six HP, symbolized by the body parts of a stick figure. (Traditionally, the "character sheet" is a post-it with a picture of a stick figure and two numbers on it.) All rolls are made against a DC that the DM makes up. If a character has relevant stuff on him, you can add 1 or 2 to a roll. All attacks do one damage unless it's something brutal that should really kill the guy on the spot. If a character gets armor, you can draw that on him on the character sheet and erase that when he takes damage. The system works perfectly well for any genre at all.
Hey Everyone, so heres a little trailer regarding the new CTDS (Chrono Trigger DS if you dont understand my shortenings by now :p)... they say it seems like old footage from the SNES game but i cant really tell, oh and i just remembered why Glenn is my favorite character there... his artwork doesnt immediately remind me of Goku or Piccolo or any of the other DBZ characters.... i never truly like the art style to be honest...

I know that not everyone here loves Square/Enix, but I think this is darn-ed cool. Plus, for the first time in who knows long, I actually own the console something's being released for.
I can't say it to be news, but I just noticed that Jade has been resumed. Jade is effectively ADOM with more stuff, and ADOM as it was, was already one of the best RPG games ever. (A bit hack n' slash-y, I must admit, but still awesome.) And honestly, look at the list of what Jade will contain:
Quote from These »
-A complete world with continents, weather patterns, settlements, dungeons and strange places, either randomly generated at the start of each game or chosen from a number of preselected worlds. -A quest generator for random quests. No two games ever will be the same. -Dungeon and world size only limited by the boundaries of Java-technology and your hardware.
-No classes, but a detailed skill system, together with a guild system providing special benefits for guild membership.
-All the races from ADOM and a few more (mist elves, ratlings, hill dwarves). -Complete freedom in what you want to do (e.g. explore dungeons, work as a caravan guardian, build your own castle, conquer cities, lead a life as a simple farmer, become a shopkeeper or whatever). -Hidden plots. (Has Chaos been truly defeated in ADOM or is something lurking behind the scenes and waiting?)
-Monster inventories.
-The ability to transform into another being. -A detailed system for morale values (on an Order...Balance...Chaos scale) and ethics (on a Good...Uncaring...Evil scale).
-Platform independence due to Java-based technology.
-Compressed save files.
I bolded the best stuff, and honestly, I still play Adom occassionally. There are more stuff for it in here. For example the awesome system of rolls. (DC 10, No bonus, 1d20. 10 bonus, 1d30. You get the drill. You'll always have a chance to fail.)
I can't say that I wouldn't be hyped up by this. Really.

According to a reliablesource, it would take approximately 10(^32) (That's 10 with 32 0's behind it) joules of energy to destroy the Earth. That's equal to the Sun's output of energy in a week. Maybe that'll help you come up with your evil scientist plans to make a spell capable of destroying a planet. (Just use a space station, that's what I'd do)
So...has the Chrono Trigger discussion died down in here yet? Is it safe for me to come in here again without having to get all HULK SMASH about how Chrono Trigger will get a port but not Seiken Densetsu 2?
Now Seiken Densetsu 3, I would love to see ported. But there's already a very well-made fan translation that came out in ROM form, so many people have already played it in English anyway.
I wouldn't be surprised if Secret of Mana gets ported eventually, though I'm not at all surprised to see Chrono Trigger get the nod first.
I'm really enjoying Song Summoner for the iPod. It's basically Final Fantasy Tactics, with the little extra twist that your soldiers are generated from the songs on your iPod. (You pick a song, then it pulls some string from the song to use as the seed for the soldier, so it's basically random; while many of the soldiers that can be generated are musically themed, there's no connection between what a song is like and what sort of character is generated.) The game is kinda short, but it has a Pokemonesque Catch 'em All element and only costs five bucks.
yes you can come back ether, and yeah its sad seiken densetsu (any in the series if you ask me :p) wont get a port, but who knows squeenix said they wouldnt be redoing stuff anymore and they needed to look forward instead of porting everything over and over again and then poof we get CT so anything could actually happen...

Yes, Seiken Densetsu 2 is Secret of Mana. I'd much prefer to see SD3 ported to a system in the US because it's a vastly superior game, but I'll take what I can get.
Frankly, Square shafted us during the SNES age because all their best RPGs were Japan-only. Granted the genre was still very young here, but I'd still love to see an English release for Treasure of the Rudra or Treasure Hunter G.
We in the states still got a few good ones, though, I'd say. Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG FFIV and FFVI aren't bad. Yes, I know there are better games in Japan, I'm just saying that none of those suck.
Still, yeah, I'm also tired of getting the American Shaft just because Japan assumes we are all idiots who can't play our way out of a wet paper sack

okay, on a topic that i think that will keep this thread alive, i need help designing a 21st level druid for Caex's epic campaign, i'm thinking more of going into a wild shape kind of druid, maybe taking dragon wild shape at lv 21, any ideas guys?
So, as some here know, I am working on developing my own game system that is based in the True20, D&D, and BESM game systems, which I call m20 as a nickname. I was thinking about running an m20 campaign in the Pen and Paper Inn sometime soon.
I have a question for the clan. Would anyone be interested in playing in such a campaign?
I'm still working on it, so it would be a while before I felt like I give others a comprehensive document of the system that they could use to play with. Which leads me to my next question: would anyone be interested in reading about the system as I develop it?
I know Joyd and Wamyc are often into game mechanics. It could stimulate interest, and to be frank I could use the feedback.

You know what's crazy? How small 3.5 halflings are. I work all day with people who are three feet tall and 30 pounds. They're called two year olds. Now, obviously a halfling isn't a human toddler. They have adult human mental stats, are more advantageously proportioned, and are probably proportionately stronger and much more coordinated and quick. I'm also going to assume that their vocal tracts are shaped differently so that they don't have hilariously high voices. I'm less concerned about their ability as adventurers, though, and more concerned about their ability to survive in a society primarily comprised of species much taller than them. (In mixed-species cities.) I mean, the mightiest halfling warrior can be lifted up pretty easily by an old lady.
hey everybody. I recently found a Slayers D20 book at my FLGS for dirt cheap, and with some help from a friend, I converted it into a .pdf and was wondering...is there any interest for some funny for a change? and what would I need to do to get it up and running in the PPI?

1) Men are men and women are women. You get fewer waifish effeminate men, and fewer women with outrageous proportions.
2) it's different. You don't get many art styles similar to Toriyama's style is all his own.
