Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}
Interesting to hear about the gestalt rules and stuff, maybe someday i'll try it out.. For now, though I'm in Alacar's Half-Life campaign, Tanthalas' Gaean Guerrillas and soon to be Alacar's Star Wars.. am I forgetting one? No I think that's it?
Well looks like Natural 20 is up and running straight and true. I wanted to stop in and tell all my CoffeeHouse friends Hello. Looks like I might have been able to keep up in here anyway Alacar. I thought yall were gonna be playing RPG games in here. Oh well my misunderstanding. Take it easy everyone!

Hahaha its like coffeehouse II in here and in another topic of discussion we could incorparate some kind of level up and spoils of victory system in the clan, that is if there is some kind of structure to the clan, obviously Alacar is clan leader and someone like erm photon will be mid-boss, no doubt I am lowly peon, ah well!!!
Since when is Alacar the leader? He just revived the clan. Besides, clans don't really have "leaders", anyway, just a clan rep- a position that is more or less meaningless if you are in a clan that isn't heavily involved in clan contests.
Last time, the whole reward system seemed sort of arbitrary, in my opinion.
theres is, Alacar was running a introduction game but that seems to have died.
Theres New information in the 4E front, the dragon born has been provided with some neat tricks... its so nice to be able to choose which stat modifies your breath weapons damage
Theres also some info regarding the Wizard and Tiefling... and one more warrior power i think.... i wont talk about them unless someone asks though

Your Chaotic Neutral Transmuter 4/Warmage 1/Ultimate Magus 10/Incantatrix 10/Archmage 5 is now here, with a new spell for your perusal.
Bigby's Flipping Finger
Sor/Wiz 0
Conjuration
Casting Time: 1 immediate action
Components: V,S
Effect: One very large finger
Saving Throw: Will partial
Spell Resistance: No
With two foul words and a gesture, you create a six foot hand made of pure force energy that tells anyone exactly what's on your mind. Immediately after you cast this spell, the hand forms itself into the most widely known gesture in all the planes. All creatures with an Int score of 3 or higher within 60ft. of the finger must make a Will save or laugh. Laughing has no effect on game statistics, but imagine the look on the BBEG's face when you flip him THIS bird.
The verbal and somatic components of this spell are exactly what you'd expect.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Well I'm sorry to offend anyone, pretty useless at speaking more than a sentance without putting my foot in it! So I hope there is no damage done.
No, you haven't offended anyone, I don't think. I guess I'm just a bit touchy since Josh, Mams, and I founded the clan, and two of the three of us ARE still here, albeit after an absence.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
This may be old hat to some of you, but it certainly wasn't for me, and I've managed to stay a lot more current than most of my friends- so chances are, at least a few will find this interesting.
Best P&P game I've ever played was in 8th grade. 7 man group, I was a Ranger/Cleric (duh.) and we ran a 14 month long campaign and it was glorious. We had all legitimately grown our characters from Level 1 to around 15-16. What made it so good was that every different adventure someone else would DM so by the end of the experience each person had DM'd 2-3 whole campaigns and we got to see our styles and strengths as creative minds. 'Twas glorious.
And howdy, Ain Soph Aur. Good to see you outside of Gaymers.
Mmmmm, D&D.
Here's a fun question: what kind of houserules have you come up or in your gameplay experiences?

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
I participated in one gestalt game in which the DM ruled that if you have two or more classes on each side that you are actively progressing (so no 1 level of rogue and 14 levels of ranger), you are permitted to take the dreaded mystic theurge-type prestige classes. It may have been broken, but it was great fun.
I just got out of a game design class, of all things. It's nothing more than a computer literacy requirement, but I thought it would be interesting. We're using to learn flash, and I'm naturally very poor at it. :<

I think it might be time to host an intervention for you and your power-gaming problem.
I have a hard time saying which game is my favorite. The three I am in right now- my own game, Accretion Gospel, Mamelon's game, Blackthorn, and Josh's game, Boddhisattva Complex, are probably the games I've been in that have been the most rewarding. We only play each game once or twice a month, so it doesn't ever become too involved, and yet when we do play, the storytelling and character development is top-notch. I accredit a lot of it to finally having a system for scheduling our games that allows us to enjoy multiple styles of play at once without playing ALL the time. Also, being on OP has helped my game, in particular, with organization and with fleshing out the world, making it more organic and involved.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
I think that I'm more or less used to adapting to the kind of game that my fellow players are wanting, and so I'm sure I have been accustomed to an atmosphere of power-gaming.
If there's a pretty solid case for a long-term campaign, I actually like to start at first or second level with relatively limited resources.

Just out of curiosity, do the people you play with tend to run really high power?
Not to criticize your style or anything- obviously, if you have fun with it, then you're doing something right- but that just reminds me of my brother and his friends. It is always hard adapting him into our games because he sort of expects every game to be about firing off a trio of maximized empowered disintegrates in the face of some implausibly high leveled beast while someone else gathers every available dice and a gallon jug sawed in half to roll them so he can unleash his full attack action next turn.
As far as I'm concerned, that's fun for the right game (AND if everyone is balanced and roughly equivalent in power level), but I like to mix it up a bit more. It's something he always protests about, though. I'm not saying necessarily that you are the same case, by any means, but your comment just sort of reminded me of him.

Your brother's not doing it right, Photon; who rolls dice for spell damage? :teach::D
I really dislike starting at below level 4 or so; anything below that and you're begging for death-by-kobold. Then again, that might be a side effect to the fact that I almost always play spellcasters. I have literally memorized most of the Spell Compendium and can generally recite stats for the most commonly used spells in a given campaign. With melee guys, I'm kinda crappy.
The bast campaign I've done: Probably when I myself went through Godslayer, though I had a hell of time compared to you guys who are playing. For one, we had only four characters..me (wizard/cleric); a ranger; a samurai/ronin/cavalier who could do massive damage in the first round, and almost nothing afterward; and an insane sorcerer. Their players moved, so I gathered up a lich ultimate magus (aka Ultimate Broken); a rogue; a ranger/dervish/Cuisinart; and the useless duskblade.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Most of the people I've played with have been definite power-gamers, yes.
But like I said, I generally adapt to the expectations of the other people playing, so I don't tend to display those traits if everyone playing is interested in a more low-key campaign... where low-key is actually normal, but seems less so in comparison to the more common style of play.
I think I've basically given up on playing a campaign that incorporates all of the sorts of themes that I appreciate (unless I myself am DMing), so I try to enjoy what everyone else wants. I think that the power-gaming mentality is probably fairly common in general among the D&D player base, as many of the people who get into fantasy do so as an escapist cure for their feelings of powerlessness and lack of control over their lives. At some point, I think people do realize that it's kind of pointless, though. I've observed the maturing tastes of myself and other people over the years, to be sure.
Godslayer hits the sweet spot for me, actually... though I would have liked to have started at a low level and have gradually worked up to where we are now. But that takes time and just the right conditions.
I think that the power-gaming mentality is probably fairly common in general among the D&D player base
I've actually found the exact opposite to be true the majority of the time. I'm told by more experienced players that it is a convention that was made more prominent with the rise of the internet, and then with the introduction of 3e.
I have a hard time finding a happy medium in D&D, speaking of power. A lot of more traditional players find my games too powerful, whereas a lot of power-gamers find it them too weak (and often too socially oriented). The gamists don't like the grandiose plots and all the heavy dialog and roleplaying, whereas the narrativists hate the cinematic combat scenes and focus on superheroic adventuring. The simulationists are just unhappy in general, but I'm convinced they will be no matter what you do, so long as they keep trying to shove D&D's square peg through their little round hole of realism. (That sounded less pornographic in my head.)
Fortunately, there are other systems. I would recommend In Nomine to you, just based on your angel adoration, but I can guarantee you would poo-poo it's power level.

Yeah the Dragonborn are sounding better the more thats revealed, only issue i have is the way it got depicted in the PHB yuck!
I think we need to find a good acronym to shorten AoK's class and level structure. Thats too long even for printing.
4e Pre-Release Rules Primers, aka the PHB Lite.
Maybe she should go by 'Master Blaster'. Everyone would remember exactly who we are talking about mid game.
I also just gave Mamelon her old title--it fit best.
