I miss the cold! I love Autumn and Winter. The cool nights of Fall are so peaceful and calm. The chill in the air and the fresh apple cider!
Man...I've been sick for nearly a week now. I've had this horrible cough and cold that's moved from my head to my chest and back 3-4 times. Add that to the fever my daughter's had for 3 days....getting up to 104.8 a couple fo times and I haven't slept much at all this weekend. I'm so tired...I think I'll saunter off to bed again and see if I can fall back asleep!

Yuk, just keep looking. I know its disheartening getting all those rejection letters, but that shouldn't make you slow down. There are tons of jobs out there. Of course most of those jobs suck, but then you just need a placeholder to pay the bills while you search for a real good job.
I'm back into job hunting mode as well. We can search for a job together. I've two months before I'm unemployed...again...and if things go well I'll have enough reserve funds left to hold me over for at least three more months before I get in trouble. It's looking like I will file for unemployment to help make ends meet. Hopefully I wont need it for long, but you never know with seasonal jobs. would give me piece of mind, if I can push it past my ego that is.
Foods the big news of the week. Since I'm under the dillusion of having a disposable income lately I've not been too squeemish on spending a little extra on food. We're talking brand names and larger cuts of meat. End result is more elaborate BBQ's trying out all sorts of recipies.
I had a T-bone steak friday, seasoned with chilly powder, black pepper, and red peppers. Medium, probably one of the best tasting meats I've had...and I cooked it. (Would have prefered Medium-Rare, but I messed up again.)
BBQ'ed stuffed onions saterday. Meh, tasted okay but took alot of work to prepare. Not quite worth the effort IMO.
Sunday we had a feast. I finally caught a fish worth eating and so did Raquel, add that to a pile a fisherman gave us and we had a large fish fry. I also BBQ'ed up a game hen brined in honey and boiled up some rice. Boy howdy that was good eatin I'll tell you what.
Now Monday is Funday, best day of the week out here and this time was no exception. Also was the birthday of one of our biotecs and the last day for Raquel. So a banquet it was. We had stuffed peppers wrapped in bacon, two BBQ'ed Cabbage, stuffed hotdogs, Hambergers with my herbal butter, Apple Cobbler stuffed Apples with Vanilla Icecream, birthday Cake, and extra Cobble mix.
The Birthday Girl got presents too. A board Game, "Toots and Bladders" and an over the hill "whistle" to call for help when she falls and can't get up. The Birthday Cake even had Icing titled, "HA HA HA, 40!" With Big "40" Candles. Good thing she's good natured about her age.
Manalive, thats good eating all over again. We didn't plan for next monday. Made it a bit of a mystery. Not sure if I should go crazy with a large cut of beef or hold back on the BBQ and go Poppyseed chicken or Eggrolls.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

lol. I don't think I will have that bad of a problem as long as I bunker down and actually apply to every job out there. Florida supposedly has loads of work in the winter so I'll focus there. I'm fairly certain my former employers in Utah wouldn't mind me back so thats an option plus with my ski experience I could always head to Colorado or even Canada. Not sure I want to bother with the ski industry in the Appalatian hills. Fire industry is also big and though I wont qualify for naught but the lowliest job, double overtime and hazard pay does sound appealing. Tried Antartica already and found I don't qualify for any of the jobs they are offering. Oz is in the back of my mind, haven't looked seriously though. Oh, and Godaddy might like me back.
So I know where to look, how to look...not so much a matter of if I get a job, but when. Its the "when" the worries me a tad. Timing tends to be everything when bouncing from job to job.
I'm actually a bit hesitant to apply for unemployment. I've always been critical of that program. I see its value and there are definitely people who need it, but I feel that too many are simply mooching off of it. Thats where I come in.
I don't really consider myself unemployed when I'm between jobs. Its just natural to not have work for a few weeks to a few month while constantly searching and waiting to hear from other prospects. With proper planning I've got enough funds to keep food in my campsite and gas in my car for months and I take advantage of that by seeing sights and being on "mandatory vacation". When funds dwindle and desperation erodes pride I've even applied to fast food joints for money...And they are always looking for people. Things can get real tight and the dollar is squeezed to no end at time, but its survivable and its not like I didn't choose this lifestyle. So for me Unemployment is not a need. That said, it would give me a bit of peace of mind between jobs. It just doesn't "feel" right, not like earning it. but it is there, available and able to make my life a little easier between jobs.
Bah, I've got two months before I need to contemplate my prospects like this. Just job hunt, job hunt, job hunt.

@rian: Yeah, it's recorded which is the important thing, don't think I can get cheaper recorded. I've sent for like $2 before, once. Do you guys reckon getting a receipt is enough proof of postage?
I guess that depends on how generic the receipt is; the ones here are completely generic + so are useless for proving anything.
Are you planning on calling around now, or just wait until your two months is up?
Right now actually. Its the nature of government jobs. I applied to one two weeks ago and got a letter saying I was qualified and would be considered. They'd get back to me in up to six months. Thats how they all are. I wanted to crack down on job hunting a few weeks earlier, but usajobs was down...thats not true actually...i was using the wrong password and instead of telling me it simply went to a "website not found" page making me think the site was down. I also look around ecolog-L, but that job hunting site has jobs that are more imediate, I don't need to look there for another month or so...plus they tend to pay less. Which is fine, I've taken lower paying jobs in favor of fun jobs. Means you all need to slap me every time I complain about being financially unable to do stuff.
Hey, either of you blockbuster folks have "Last of the Dogmen" in stock? I've been searching for it and everywhere I go it costs between $40 and $100...which its not worth imo. Its a western romance type adventure and fairly old to boot. Some of the DVD's are also labeled as some specific type that may or may not work on certain DVD players. Really confusing.

So I got my school report for semester 1 yesterday. I got 4 A's, a B+, and a C+ for German (which is my 6th subject and won't count anyway). I was pretty happy. If I can bring the German up to a B and the B+ for Drama up to an A- That will be really, really good. 5 A's and a B is essentially the best marks you can hope for.

And uhhh, has anyone else noticed, in more than one place lately, stories coming out that kill squads have been sent to the "wrong address" so many times in Iraq, each time killing every man woman and child in the dwelling? I've heard it in 3 places now. It seems soldiers are starting to talk about how we've killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis for absolutely no reason.
It seems soldiers are starting to talk about how we've killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis for absolutely no reason.
Isn't that just talk of the entire war in general? I doubt we will ever really know the exact number of Iraqies killed in this war both from us and the ensuing civil unrest. Large numbers to be sure. Just another oops in America's long list of foreign policy mistakes.

Damn, you really know discussion is dying when people start talking about the war..
I got SoulCalibur IV, Dexter season 1 and 40x boosters yday! I now have playsets of all the filter-lands minus one Fetid Heath. And I pulled a foil Ashling, the Extinguisher! Umm... foilies!!
Running a W/B deck in fnm tomorrow. It is all about removal.. That's right I am packing hate.
I mentioned the war because it was on my mind. Specifically, how often I'm hearing lately that groups of soldiers have been slaughtering civilians in their houses at night, by the thousands. One soldier testified that he killed 200 civilians execution style. He's clearly no longer mentally well.
What shocks/saddens me is that people still keep enlisting. Americans need to take a real stand. People need to stop signing up, and honestly, the soldiers there need to stop following these types of orders.
Unfortunately, neither of those things is going to happen, and the situation is only going to deteriorate.
I honestly need each of you to think about who is in the white house and why he's there. Now granted, he did not recieve the popular vote in 2000, but in 2004 he did. After he put us into a war that everyone KNEW was a farce! Based on a LIE! But because "you can sit down and drink a beer with him" he was re-elected to head this country. The same people that are behind that decision believe he has done the right thing and are continuing to enlist. There are people out there that believe that if we leave Iraq and Afganistan....we will be attacked again. Really? If we DON'T leave Iraq....we'll most certainly be attacked! But the best thing to do is continue to not communicate with the Muslim leaders. Continue to say that talking to them will lead to further attacks because they have no rationality. That's worked so far, right?!
No.....don't vote for someone that has been trying to communicate with these people because he is going to make the Uited States a home to Muslim extremists!
Dumb assed mother ****ers are the ones that continue to feed this war! And this war is the reason gas prices are high and the economy is down and the dollar is worth ****!

As far as I'm concerned, the war isn't happening other than as an abstract concept. If I think about it anymore than that, I'll get depressed, and that won't do any good, especially as I'm not in a position to change anything save for my votes this November (which will largely be symbolic given my geographical location, but whatever).
