@Uriel
You want a competitive zombie deck? Why not. This one actually managed to get into top 16 at a certain nationals a few years back. It's partly my build.
There you have it. Very fast and aggressive. The best thing this deck does is make a fast rush with 2-3 zombies and then drop a Zombie trailblazer. From then on, instead of attacking, you just make all their lands swamps during their upkeep preventing them from playing any cards (unless they're black of red with instant burn) and kill them by cycling Polluters and recurring. Nasty.
The green splash is for the Quagmire druid, an often overlooked gem and for Strength of night which is one of the best zombie cards ever. Beats overrun and is an instant.
Against slow control decks, you add Rotlungs and Shepherds and just lock/drain them. The deck can be a beast, just takes some time to getting used with the interactions.
The deck has 61 cards, just so you know. I always play 61 cards decks - trademark.

@beinghumanbean: Seems like a solid deck to me. Though I don't like your recycling plan to be reduced to just two Unholy Grotto, specially when you're packing Feeders, Cabal therapy, and Raptors. Also, while Rotlung is a great card, I'm a little concerned as to how effective it is in a deck with only 8 different clerics and a small reclying program. I suggest throwing in some Oversold Cemeteries.
Since you're only packing two cards that need white mana to cast (and only one at that) you might want to run less dual lands. Also, what IS Polluted delta doing in here?:eyebrow:
Gerrard's Verdict feels a bit off in the deck. You're not running a discard-heavy strategy, so I'm curious as to why you threw this in. The therapies I can understand, as they are reusable multi-card killers, and are deadly against combo/control if dropped early. They could find a place in your side, but it really depends on your meta.
If you want to leave it mono black, Distress or Duress could replace the verdict, and Sudden Death or cheap removal like Terror could replace Vindicate. They work well against most decks. You could maindeck the Demise, and make your side hold a few white-mana generating lands for Kataki and all the other goodies.
Since every creature in the deck is a Zombie, You could consider Lord of the Undead as a p/t bumper and as part of your recycling program. Undead Warchief is a great card in any Zombie deck, (he's been timeshifted, so you might be able to get a few) as well as Gempalm Polluter.
There are many ways to go with a Zombie deck, so how it's built really depends on how you want to play it.
Warchief and the lord are too slow for the deck. In my deck, you want to clear your opponent off within 5 turns.
The unholy grotto generates colourless mana so am not too sure i want to play anything more than two.
Gerald's verdict is effective against Combo, Control and Aggro, since aggro can't take the lifegain nor the loss of their spells.
And Polluted Delta is there to smooth mana (many times i get stuck with white cards in my hand with no way to cast.) and also to filter the deck.
Rotlung really destroys Aggro even on its own. They kill one 2/2, another take its place... You never want to see Rotlung on your opponent's field especially if you are playing Boros (all of its creature are same size, and it takes 2 removal/crature to get rid of it).
It's still not colorless, and has no color. That's a paradox. So either you're a Zen master or an idiot, I'll assume the Zen master for sake of argument. This card will have no paradoxes because it has a clear paradox. Deep stuff man.
@Zombiemachine: Thanks for the decklist. I'll see if I can get some of those to make some changes to my own deck. Also, pretty sweet card you've designed there. I like the flavor getting a +1/+1 counter when it regenerates. It also prevents players from just sacrficing all their swamps/forests and bumping it in one go. Nicely balanced. I can't see the picture though, as my country's governemnt has aparently blocked Photobucket from every internet provider due to "child pornography.":muh:
@beinghumanbean: You'll need replacements for Gerrard's verdict and the Delta when you make this monoblack, but I see where they come in now. As for the Grottos, I'm not saying add all 4, but add some other sort of way to recycle your creatures so that you don't get stuck waiting for one of two cards in your deck.
"All these people having fun are playing for a gigantic 40000$ award, while I'm here sweating, players asking me stupid layer questions we all hate, and I'm thirsty.
@zombiemachine: here you go. I couldn't find an expansion symbol, so I used the one I created for my set. Hope that doesn't bother you.
Kudos to you friend, your effort is greatly appreciated.
Looks awesome.

Thanks for the feedback, especially Uriel. I placed first with that decklist (ok,the Carrion feeder was originally Festering goblin and the Withered wretch was Zombie cannibal while the Soulles one was Phyrexian scuta, but the changes greatly improve the deck) on my Osaka (if I remember correctly) GP qualifier through a field of MBC, Madness and Psychatog. I hope the deck does me justice. Enjoy. FIRST!!!
Just got back a while ago from Magic Game day, or as I like to call it, "Wizards Destroys Black Day". I don't know about the rest of you, but as far as core sets go, this one is severly disappointing in not just the way that the black cards are lacking, but the general feel and excitement of Magic playing has diminished significantly. I mean, the best cards are the lands. Why is that theme in the core set? The artifacts aren't bad either, with Pithing Needle, Platinum Angel and Razormane Masticore tearing it up in Constructed as well as Limited. But the other colors are generally unexciting, and it's annoying to have anticipated a fun set and recieved a pile of 300 boring cards.
But anyway. I want to know if anyone's tested out Agonizing Memories as a replacement to Persecute, and whether or not Graveborn Muse can replace Arena. On the plus side, you can tudor for both using Dimir House Guard, but we are kidding ourselves if we think their power level is even close to their predecessors.
@Zombiemachine: Hey, anytime. Also, I saw variations of your deck around the time of Scourge, and from I can remember, they worked amazingly well. I had a deck that used the Trailblazers once, but a bunch of cards from it and my binder got stolen, and I was never able to rebuild it. (Trailblazers are hard as **** to find these days too)
@Any Game-Day survivors: Game day here in Colombia (or at least, my city) was delayed till tomorrow. I think the store that's hosting it always hosts these HUGE Yugioh tournaments on Saturdays, (which are incredibly packed every time, full of little kids mostly) so they decided to allow players of both to get a chance to participate on both tournaments.
I'm not looking forward to playing, partially because I'm broke, and mostly because there aren't that many cards I could use or trade/sell in Xth. I'll be judging the afternoon tournaments, but I still have a chance to play in the morning. What do you guys think? Should I go for it?
@Tyler Durden: I've been playtesting Agonizing Memories and using similar effects to it in decks before. Let me tell you, it works amazingly. Specially if you combo it with Dralnu or something that lets you use it several times. (Consider stuff like Panoptic Mirror for extended) Persecute is better in some scenarios (specially mono-colored combo), but the good thing about the Memories is that they slow your opponent down two turns. It really depends on how you use it. (Remember the Chittering Rats + Skull Collector combo? If you find one like that for the memories, it's pretty much gg.)
The muse really gives a Zombie deck a MEGA burst, and you can sack it or swing with it till it dies to avoid it killing you. Whenever I use it, I usually find whatever card I need in a turn or two. (Then again, my deck is full of Zombies)
There's good things and bad in either... it depends on how you use them, but I doubt they'll replace the older cards in the exact same decks they used to be in.
"All these people having fun are playing for a gigantic 40000$ award, while I'm here sweating, players asking me stupid layer questions we all hate, and I'm thirsty.
I can see one bright spot in the future of black: after fiddling around with a casual(t2) zombie deck, I was astounded by how well it did. I mean, we have quite a bit of nice cards for that.
My version is still very rough and very budgeted. If it wasn't, I'd have used Korlash.
If you have any other card ideas, don't hesitate. It's always interesting to see new, well designed cards.
Ok, this is me not hesitating (I should really learn how to do it myself, but it's kind of fun this way too). Thanks.

Whenever Bilefroth attacks, it deal 3 damage to target creature unless that creature's controller has Bilefroth deal 5 damage to him or her.

Awesome card! I'd love to see that being printed one day.
But isn't 3 mana a bit undercosted? I believe it to be backbreaking even at 4 mana. Anyways, you can easily make your own cards with a programme called 'Magic Set Editor'. It's freeware, so getting it shouldn't turn out to be difficult. It's really cool, 'cause there is a difference between thinking about a new card and seeing it in front of you.

Whoa, thanks man.
Undercosted? Don't think so. It must attack in order to be anything more than a Hidden horror and is multicolored, rare and a legend.
Also, if your opponent has no creatures in play, it must waste a creature of your own or deal 3 to itself. Plus, if killed right away it's just card disadvantage. If it gets going, it's a beast though, just like every honest demon should be.

Black Dawn: can you do cards in the [FS] frames? If so I have a card for you to render.
Hmm, I don't know how it will look like in the end, but I can try. The FS frames look kinda wierd. Just let me know what the card does and I'll try my best
Back on after a few days, any one pull anything note worthy out of 10th? Best I got where mostly uncommons, black borded replacements for white bordered stuff, best rare was the nostalgic dreams by buddy traded for me. But I got a dragon tokn and it seems their hard to get so yay me.
@Juggles: I managed to get my hands ona card I'll be trading for Grave Pact today, but I didn't see much action as a judge. As a positive note, I did see about three Mono-black decks. Two of them were in the Booster Draft that started in the morning, and the last one was in 2HG in the afternoon. All of them fairly comptetitive.
Also, I had a bit of a revelation last night. After a while of deliberation, I found a hidden gem in a seemingly bad common from Time Spiral: Skulking Knight.
It seems bad as hell, but think about it: How many constructed matches do you play that acutally have permanents using abilities against your creatures? Also, any spell they play on it is as good as wasted: for one, it's countered as it no longer has a legal target (that means no life from Lightning Helix or card drawing from stuff like that). For another, its one more spell they can't use against your bigger threats (Lords, Warchiefs, Knight of Dusk, etc...). To top it all off, it's a 3/3 with flanking for 2B. Seems like a fair deal to me. (Works even better if you have a way to recycle him) Any thoughts on this guy?

It was played in haakon reanimator type decks and generally it isn't bad, just so easy to kill it often times is over looked. And out side of dredgeing it and peace of mind getting haakon to the yard to play is a little hard.
However we have a rotation in a few months, so keep them handy, you never know when their gonna be useful.
And for the record:
“They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. I like to break windows and take what’s inside.”—Braids, dementia summoner
Is my favorite flavor text out of 10th. A close second is:
“I don’t know why people say a double-edged sword is bad. It’s a sword. With two edges.”—Kamahl, pit fighter
We may have gotten robbed in card choices, but we got more Braids logic, and braids logic is classic.
Any ways lorwyn is two blocks, lorwyn and morning tide (peanut/butter), and jelly/doughnut blocks which will make up one set just released seperately. Meaning that we won't just have one block to hope for, we have two, sorta.

What card is that?
Oh well, althought the black cards sucks in general, i have to say that black cards against black border make it look tech. And unholy strength looks way better than holy strength.
What is the worst rare you guys ever pulled from xth? I opened Sleeper Agent in my first pack...

I don't know what to think about the Lorwyn/Morningtide Block... It seems a bit too cheery for me to become a set in which black gets lots of goodies.

Anybody checked out the lorwyn basic lands? The swamps certainly don't look like something that would allow someone to summon big bad monsters (like Hypnox, god I wish they reprint that one day).
