sorry i haven't been posting here in awhile. But just to let all of you know i still want to be a part of natural 20 though. I also hope that everyone is doing well.
I did get some RPGs finished though like final fantasy 12 and dragon quest 7 which are good games although dragon quest 7 was alot more classic and more fun in my opinion.
As for me.. I'm thinking of restarting the old 'Gold Box' games for the PC.. but that's 2nd Edition D&D at it's clunkiest. Still, it's a fun little series, if you have a little help from hints anyways
If anybody's interested, Danban started a little quest thingy in the Collo called Mischief Magic. It's here and it looks like it's going to be really cool.
Well, I haven't spent much time in the Collo, so please excuse my question:
Is there a specific format (like, say, DnD rules, but not specifically DnD) to said "quest" (and all other related "quests") or is it essentally role-playing, and role-playing only?
Edit: well, I read the Colloseum rules, and I think it cleared it up for me. But just to be sure I haven't mis-understood, could somebody verify for me?
So, out-of-the-blue question. Anyone ever play Mutants & Masterminds here?
It's very similar to True20 (both are Green Ronin games) and I've been using it for ideas for my True20 mod. Anyone have experience with this game system? What are your thoughts on it compared to other systems?

I have a friend who's always wanted to play mutants and masterminds, and a GM who has the book so it looks like I might play in the near-ish future. I wasn't too psyched that it was d20 based, just because it seemed like an odd fit. But like most d20 mods, it was much more resilient than I had previously imagined. I really like the fact that you get to start off with effectively ten or so levels. That's the fun way to play Dnd anyway! And it's also a great way to handle the superpowers aspect.
I've never heard of it, but wamyc's post really made me interested ;). I have to curse you now though, because there's no way I can play it :p.
How come? No play group?
I don't know if the game is worthwhile, but it does sound like a good way to handle super powers. I mean, spiderman didn't start out with level-1 versions of his abilities. He was kickass from the start.
Heck, now I'm interested, too. I'm going to take a look at the book whenever I get a chance. Maybe in the meantime, I'll look online for some resources.

It's about as loosely d20 based as you can possibly get. Seriously, the functional similarities far outweigh the functional differences. It's got as much in common with D&D as a sheep has in common with a cow. They're both farm animals with cloven hooves, but that's about as far as it goes.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Yeah, I guess I could have clarified. I meant that it was resilient because it was a deeply adapted d20 mod (if you can call it that at all) as opposed to a superficial mod. There's nothign wrong with d20 - I just don't think it's a universal RPG solution for every setting.
While the lack of strict and class-based regulations could lead to some pretty degernate builds, I'm looking forward to the possibilty of messing about with saves and BAB, min/maxing it up for a bit. I'd like to play around with the stats and see what combinations I prefer.
I think you'd like M&M, wamyc. The point costs for every feature are very well defined, and problematic abilities (such as Transfer or Mimic) are very expensive or are easily limited by the GM. Overall, M&M characters appear to be simple to balance among each other. The system lacks the restrictions one might encounter in D&D, but all characters get exactly as much power a all the others.
Mutants and Masterminds is more like True20 than d20. Which makes sense, since True20's design was largely built off of M&M. Both are inevitably similar to d20 in a number of ways, though - they use a d20 to resolve actions, they use Fortitude, Reflex, and Will saves, they have most of the same combat rules (although True20 and M&M don't have attacks of opportunity), and they share a lot of the basic feats.
True20 powers are decidedly like M&M powers, definitely much moreso than D&D spellcasting, or even psionics. And they are more similar to psionics in 2E D&D. However, by the default rules there are not any expendable "points" for using powers, such as magic points, power points, etc, like those present in the 2E D&D psionics system.
Another funny thing I noticed about True20 is that it cares a lot more about saving throws, and not merely success or failure, but the degree of success or failure. Therefore, failing a Fortitude save by 14 points lower than the DC would be more severe than failing by only 3 points lower.
This mostly applies to Toughness and other damage saves in the core system, though I guess I use the mechanic a bit more in my True20 mod.
Anyway, yeah, M&M seems really flexible. Character creation likely isn't as simple as it would be in another system, since there is a lot of math involved in calculating point costs.

Wow, it seems our clan has gone into hibernation. I would mostly attribute this to Photon being gone from the site for an indeterminate amount of time. He's more than a little jaded with MTGS right now, and I can understand his feelings on the matter.
I haven't posted here in a pretty long while either, mostly due to a lot of things happening in life and other places on the site. After a pretty long hiatus from it I've finally started another campaign in the Inn. It's...different than my usual faire, so here's hoping people can actually stick with it this time.
Anyway, how's everyone else? Any exciting moments in gaming happen to any of you lately? On my end I was captivated by Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and then disappointed that there wasn't anymore to play after marathoning through it. Thankfully another DQ game is right around the corner, though.
Probably going to be doing another Underdog in the near future, although I'm not sure which. I have a long list of games I want to cover, and it seems pretty hit-or-miss as far as reception goes.
Well that made me happy to see. It's encouraging that they chose one of the good Final Fantasies to showcase the series' twentieth anniversary, as well as my favorite of them all.
I'm excited about the new content. It looks like Rosa and Rydia can use...combination magic? O_o;; Maybe they decided to keep Rydia's ability to use white magic or something.
The twins look cute, almost exactly like their original Amano artwork. Actually, everyone looks a lot more faithful to the Amano work, which is ironic considering Akihiko Yoshida took over character designs for the remake. Cid and Tella even have their "I drink too much" red noses. Although paladin Cecil still looks like a freaking WOMAN.
That does look very awesome, indeed. I already have FFIV Advance.. but..
As far as I'm going.. it's going rather slow game-wise in real life, but my Half-Life game is chugging along very smoothly (we had a small hiccup in activity, but hopefully we can just keep on).
I started Rogue Galaxy before I left Florida, so that was nice... and same, as for the Half-Life game.. i think its just a matter of getting things moving again, and I'm also feeling kind of restricted just because of how stupidly this computer is .. it works a lot better than the one before.. I couldn't even log on MTGS on the old one, so this is definitely an improvement, but yea..
About Rogue Galaxy.. I got to the part where the hooded man left the kid in the square, and he was just about to go in and fight the big guy, but he was first encountered by some huge giant guys.. I died. Luckily its only right before that battle, that has a save point.. is there any hints or anything you can think of that might help me there?
As for other games.. I don't have much that keeps me entertained on the DS.. I just bought Brain Age, i have Cookin' Mama, Pokemon Diamond, and the New Super Mario Bros...But seriously, my problem w/ those games are:
Brain Age - Cookin' Mama - They're too short as far as things go.. i mean, you can do 'em for awhile, but there's no, like real story to 'em...
Pokemon.. eh.. It kind of gets old after awhile, and i just haven't picked it up in a long time.. its just kind of ... eh.
As for NSMB: Its flippin' FRUSTRATING!!! I got stuck on like the 2nd world, 3rd....whatever you call it. Soooo frustrating.. and when you die, you go wayyy back to the beginning.. rrrgghh..
And as for my other games.. i had come sooo close to finishing Kingdom Hearts, and had already started DQ8 a fair bit, plus a fair number of other games.... but seriously.. I was ALMOST FINISHED with Kingdom Hearts, and my memory card disappeared... I suspect it fell in the garbage then I accidentally threw it away when i emptied the garbage, back in my dorm room.... I still have my Chronotrigger file, and my FFIV file, if I ever get another copy of FFIV... Ryan wanted his FFIV back, but he let me keep Chronotrigger... But its just so depressing, and it almost makes me want to stop gaming because I lost all that data......
Well.. whenever I lose data, I often force myself to play those old games again--I lost my FFX, KH, and KH2 data, all nearly or at 100%, so I'm gonna have a grand old time playing those again

I have this idiot tendency to finish games, often with all the crap unlocked and special parts complete and then delete the save file after convincing myself that's the only way I'll enjoy the game again. I need to keep that impulse under check.
I saw that Omna needed help with Rogue Galaxy so I'll pop in for a second to help out a bit.
Level up a little before taking on the boss; also, level up your weapons for later. Using the Desert Seeker at that point is probably a good idea, and levelling until you can gather some useful stuff for your Revelation Board is a good idea. You can fight around indefinitely, and healing items are cheap, so buy some. You don't get Simon and Steve for the battle (if I remember right) so be careful. Using your ranged attack can help you, but remember it has a recharge on it.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Still, I prefer the face-to-face social interaction of real life play with by friends.
