To be honest...I don't pay as much attention to stats as I think I should. Generally, when it comes to a session going well or badly, I'll tip the scales in whatever favor I feel like in battle. If the party's doing too well against a blue dragon, that blue dragon gets an ungodly Will save until I say otherwise. There are a lot of stats in D&D, but once you become familiar with them it gets to be very easy to make them up out of nowhere =)
If you want to play in an Inn campaign, we'd love to have you. The more the better, after all. Eberron is actually a good place to start learning about D&D, I think.
heh. the deep dark secret of all DMing. i'm glad to see it basically applies to DND as well.
what are the posting expectations for the P&PI? i can't imagine much can ever happen without months of daily posting.
@wamyc: Ebberon actually is a high-magic setting. NPC spellcasters with great power are rare, unlike some campaign settings *cough*forgotten realms *cough*. Most of the posting expectations for P&P Inn occur when combat begins. It would be a good idea to check for updates about every two or three days, more often if possible.

So if you're expected 3-5 times per week when not in combat, how often should you post when in combat? Combat takes a long time irl, so how do you deal with that online?
And what's the usual scope of an adventure - a level - a single task, 1-20?

With combat, it's kinda tricky to say for sure. It could go by pretty fast if everyone is on the thread(Broken Mandala went from page nine to page thirteen in the first round of combat), or it could go kinda slow if people are dropping in irregularly.
Even in the case that your absence is kinda slowing combat, the dm will usually decide to run your character's actions to speed things up until you come back, just so people aren't waiting for days or even weeks to finish combat.
I'd say as a rule of thumb that if you check the game thread and see that the group has entered combat, you should(if you can) at least check every other day(or even every day if you can if the thread is moving at a fast pace in general).
The scope of most games there are generally pretty long lasting campaigns(1-10 or something similar), though there are also single shot games that run one dungeon or a similar setting. The campaign that I started, Blood of Gods, starts my characters at 3rd level and should take them to at least fifteenth level by the time it's done(assuming that it runs that long. Not saying that I'll stop it or that players will necessarily quit, but things happen...).
Hope that cleared some things up for you

you know, I've always been extremely shocked by the notion of playign a character for more than five levels I suppose it's possible to go 1-20 IRL if that's a very regular hobby, but ten levels online seems like it would take years.
And has anyone played the dragon warrior 3 remake for game boy color? It looks decent and I'm thinking about picking it up, as DW3 was always onel of my favorite RPGs I never got to finish.
Yes you are correct Omna, I think they changed the name to Dragon Quest by the third installment of the series, I'm sure Photon or ether will correct me if I'm wrong...
Not until the seventh, stateside. In Japan, it has been Dragon Quest the entire time. The name was never "changed", it was just released as Dragon Warrior in the states initially because TSR held the licenses for the title "Dragon Quest" at that time.

Official Character Sheet Shredder of DAMNIT
DAMNIT: I should never have to shred my own character sheet in frustration.
The only DQ game not to be called Dragon Warrior so far has been Dragon Quest VIII, actually. The reason Enix had to change the series' title in the US was because, back when TSR owned D&D, they had a module by the name of "Dragon Quest." The copyrighting only ran out on that in 2004, so Enix decided to change the name back to what it always should've been =)

I'd like to join on [Natural 20], being the hardcore P&P roleplayer that I am (although here it would be mostly, uh, keyboard and computer screen?) I'll take a look and play in some campaigns in the Pen and paper inn before I try and Dungeon Master one, to see how it happens in the realm of forum rp games.
One of the things I've been doing for a while, having moved and playing with my friends that are back in my hometown, is to use mIRC to speed up things (as opposed to forums/e-mailing.) It works really great, we even made up a script that shoots dices (not that complicated) and I would propose we make a channel on Efnet or IRCnet for natural 20.
On Shaharazad topic, I'd say the DM has to make the campaign interesting, and tricking the dices and improvisating the stats/etc. is one of the key part of it. Personnally, I always only have a vague idea of what an NPC/monster can and can't do, and once the game gets rolling, it gets more defined as players try things against them, upon which they get good/bad saves, skill checks etc. depending on how good the players themselves fare. However, it's also important to act the same way on the other way around, lowering DCs, etc. seeing how total party kilsl ain't really fun in a long, worn out campaign.

I was just thinking of an interesting list: overused nouns in character names- for example-hunter, shadow, fire, phantom, blood, etc.
I've gotten to 85 deities named, placed with domains and factions, in the world I'm creating. I've also realized that I should start working on more of the other aspects. One interesting storyline is that of three of the lesser deities/demigods. Aien Devilsbane, Paladin Demi-God and Protector of Children, Janon Darkblade, murderous Death Knight Lesser God, and Blane, Fallen Templar Lesser God of Outcasts. Once they were all friends and brother's in arms. Then they happened upon an ancient power source (possibly swords, but that seems to cliche), Aien has nothing to do with the tainted power, but Blane and Janon take it up. Aien turns them in to the head of their order, and is rewarded with Paladin and Demigod status by Nablor, God of Healing and Children, while Blane and Janon are exiled. Janon had already started to delve into the dark arts, and embraced his new status, becoming a great supporter of the Nightcourt. Blane keeps his friendship with Janon, but tries to stay more neutral. Still, he is a member of the Nightcourt, as the Gods of Havleim have labeled him outcast. Darkblade and Devilsbane are now bitter enemies.

I'm trying to make fun of all of us, its just that you're the second hunter, making you a prime target.
Malaxahnter is the demon god of hate and war. He is the one responsible for starting the Khaoimahx wars, where the Giants and the Ancients allied to fight the Khaoimahx, who would become the Demons. This war sundered the land, and nearly brought about the extinction of the Dragons, oldest and mightiest of all races. Only 3 dragons are left, Palc of Ice, Volc of Fire, and Thalc of the Clouds. If ever they were to wake from their slumber, surely their fury would cast the Gods themselves down from their mighty halls.
A number of gods, mainly lesser and demigods, are members of the Brother/Sisterhood of the Trail. These include Chaka-Chaka-Poosh the beastwoman, Zissthra the trickster, Hashimir the thieve, the elf Neotheran, Eta-Eta-Sha the cook, Ketzlan goddess of luck, Tamor the halfling, Blane the outcast, Meshbok the orc psionic, Sul A'Jhong the pirate, Clud the philosophic golem, and Cedillwyn the Satyr bard and founding member.
Farvang is the Hell Hound demigoddess of loyalty, which is odd as most hell hounds are summoned and bound unwillingly. Servant and friend to Blane, Farvang was given to him by Janon Darkblade in one of his early forays into magics disapproved by the paladin council. Janon did not pursue the path of shamanism, binding spirits to one's will, but found another source of power. Dark magics, which had been bound when the meteor summoned by the Ancients and the Giants to destroy the Demon homeland changed the very nature of Jiergon's magic.
Hey guys. Would any of you be interesting in joining/beta testing or working with a website similar to WebRPG? A forum-style web-based online program where players could play Open Source d20, running games and using accessories like maps, equipment charts, die-rolling programs, etc, with visuals, to help? Kind of like a Pen & Paper Inn.. with goodies? My brother in law is brainstorming the idea and he'd like to know.. anyone interested?
I would be interested in this, and by interested I mean: I have been a mod on a similar French site so I guess I could give some advice. What I've found to be the best for these kind of sites is mixing the forum based roleplay with IM (mIRC, other chat client, etc) to have a more "table game" feeling. Also, I've experienced with maps, die-rolling programs, and equipment charts and they work really good and can often be really interactive, if you put some effort into it.
On the site I was, the map could be modded at anytime by the DM, to show what he wanted to show to the players, and used squares that when you passed your mouse over them gave a picture of the character it represented, it was really complete. I wouldn't know how to do that, but I know it is possible, I'll ask to the guy who admined it.
Sounds cool. Since I now have reliable internet access, I should be able to more fully commit (even if I don't really have the time, I tend to make time for that which I enjoy [which actually ends up with negative time])

Hey, back for, well...today, but here's the FC for Pokemon: 3308 1518 3371.
So i don't know if I'm just a slow player, but I am about 85 hours into it and my main parties are only about level 56-65's...everyone talking about level 100's....Have you looked online at the trades and stuff??? Somepeople want ridiculous trades on there like a level 100 palkia for a level 1 Feebas....I have a feebas....
Anyways, I prob won't join the casual leauge thing you got up cause I am nowhere near level 100's, unless there's some secret place to train i should know about?
Phantom Ronan: I played Gothic II and enjoyed it thoroughly, but didn't buy number III because PC Gamer magazine said that every hit in combat paralyzes for 2 seconds, effectively making combat a game of "who can hit first". Is the combat system really that broken?
@void: Well, they don't quite stun for two seconds, but there are some hits that do, and even then when an enemy hits your again, it breaks the stun and you can often do a quick attack to stop their combo. The big problem is with wolves and lions. Once a wolf or lion attacks you, they always use quick attacks, so they pretty much guarantee about five or so hits, which kinda sucks. Oh yeah, and any Crawler creature.
The real solution that I found for this problem is magic. A good fireball gets rid of those pesky wolves and lions, and a few of them get rid of the crawlers.
There's also a good system for defending against magic. With the magic staff skill and a magic staff in hand, you can generate a barrier that absorbs enemy magic at the expense of mana. It's pretty cool.

Check out the poll on Gleemax. (www.gleemax.com)
For those of you too lazy to click on the link:
You're a powerful evil wizard performing a dark ritual in your dungeon lair. The ritual, which will advance your plan for world domination, is nearly complete when another party of goody-two-shoes adventurers busts down the door. Which one should you kill first?
A. Warrior
B. Ranger
C. Wizard
D. Rogue
E. Cleric
My Answer:
B. Ranger
I would go for the Ranger first. The Ranger poses the most immediate danger. According to the unwritten rules of adventuring, the warrior will be the one to take you out. However, he'll take his time, slicing up minions, doing poses and making not quite witty remarks. The wizard isn't immediately a problem, as being a wizard yourself, the first thing you learn is to protect yourself from other wizards. I should have plenty of wards against him. If he was powerful enough to challenge me, he wouldn't have needed to bring his friends. The rogue is a potential problem. As an adventurer, he is guaranteed to get past any traps I have set up. However, this will take time, and its all he (or she) can do. The cleric will eventually be nuisance with his healing, but I can always take him out later. The ranger is a missile user, and evil wizards rarely have a defense against such (the best defense is a good offense, erego, kill the ranger). Alternative methods against rangers are ninjas or removing your heart and placing it in an egg in some remote region.
Although, you're probably screwed anyhow. A. They're adventurers, so that gives them an unfair advantage. and B. They've already gotten to your secret chamber, probably past a number of minions as well. In the event that death is imminent, kill the the elf. They're a bugger to ressurect, and you're maliciously depriving them of more years of life than the others.
