@ZM: I think you should know that your Avatar creeps me out. I'm not creeped out easily either. Yes i know he's from a movie but still just looks wierd.
And for those who don't know from which movie, he is the lead "bad guy" from the Hellraiser franchise, loosely based on Clive Barker's (one of the best horror writers today) "Hellbound heart" novel. There are 8 movies in the Hellraiser series and I suggest the first 4 installments (Hellraiser, Hellbound, Hell on earth, Bloodline) as they are very good, gory and pretty hard to forget.
Barker himself is doing a remake of the original and it is due to come out late 2007 unless the date doesn't change.

Nu metal isn't metal, IMO. It's just something with a good rythm, and catchy riffs that can be "groovy". Anyway, I do like the very first record of Linkin Park, for example, Hybrid Theory.
It's fun anyway to see that the nu-metal bands you have named aren't really nu-metal, or at least not anymore (except korn)
Slipknot has changed their style radically with their last album, putting in a lot of acoustic stuff and experimental material, and there are some songs that are good, like Vermillion 1 & 2 and Circle.
System Of A Down imo weren't nu metal and aren't nu metal either. They are a mix of Metal, Punk, Progressive, and Folk music. I don't see any rap or hip hop influence, therefore they can't be classified as nu-metal.
Deftones were nu-metal, but now they've changed into something more experimental than before. I think that the Sleep Team of Chino Moreno improved a lot the global sound of this band, since I think that Saturday Night Wrist (their last work, that came out in 2006) Is the greatest album ever made by deftones, imo even better than White Pony (claimed to be their best by a lot of mag like Kerrang and NME).
Metalcore is just a name that means all and nothing.
I'll show you which bands' sound is under this name:
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Converge
Isis (:o!! WTF?)
Atreyu
Kayo Dot
Trivium
Underoath
A lot of emo bands
just to name few. You see, the genres that these bands really does is totally diffrenet one from each other. I think that the magazines and the media in general tend to put together some names like in this case just because these bands uses heavy riffs and screamed/growled vocals. This isn't true, at all. Above all, only the first two bands can be classified with this genre.
Anyway, I personally hate to defines band with a single name of genre just because it could fit. Every band has got its influece, its story, and the aftermath of these things is their sound.
I tend to lead towards using generalizations because it makes it easier to organize my media player I'm anal like that
@Slipknot: I highly Doubt they will continue with a Vol 3'esq style of music on their next album if they do another one. Their are too many bands that do slow stuff like that already and they got known for their speed and all the nifty stuff they do on stage, and playing slow just doesn't allow them to be as nifty (Yes i use the word nifty)
@SOAD: Don't listen to them. Just know they are classified as Nu-Metal by most people. Should be classified as crap if you ask me:p
@Deftones: Never did like them (Was just an example)
Metalcore as a genre is supposed to be a fusion of Metal and Hardcore
Some people are just dumb
Examples of metalcore to me are
BFMV (Though they cross-class as emo)
Old Trivium
Bleeding Through
Old A7X
It Dies Today
Haste the Day
Heaven Shall Burn
Caliban
Demon Hunter
Across Five Aprils
I think that metalcore will fade just like all the other fads in metal and you will have 3-4 bands that will last the test of time much like the Big 4 and German triad I think its called. You guys can just call me adam or add_em. I mostly listen to Thrash, Melodic Death Metal and some sludgie type stuff. Here is a long list of the metal bands that I listen to: 3 inches of blood, Anthrax, Arch Enemy , Amon Amarth, Armored Saint, At the Gates, Atreyu, Beyond Fear, Black Sabbath(Mostly Dio era), Blind Guardian, Blue Oyster Cult, Carcass, Crowbar, Decapitated, Demons and Wizards, Dio, Discharge, Early Man, Exodus, Genghis Tron, Gojira, Haste the day, the haunted, helloween, High on Fire, Iced Earth, In Flames, Iron Maiden, Jag Panzer, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Kick Axe, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Mercyful Fate, Morbid Angel, Motorhead, Nile, Opeth, Pantera, Pelican, Possessed, Samhain, Sepultura, Slayer, S.O.D., The sword, Swallowing Sh!t, Testament, Thin Lizzy, Voivod, Venom, Zao. and thats it. All the metal that I listen to.

Cannot Stand The Sword, with a name like that you'd think they'd be Power Metal but they are Doom:mad: and Me Hate Doom
First time anyone has mentioned Beyond Fear to my knowledge on these boards, You sir get 2 Metal Points for that
If anyone doesn't know, the lead singer of Beyond Fear is Tim 'Ripper' Owens of Judas Priest and Iced Earth Fame
Pretty good list ADD'em, not all your choices, mind you, but a lot of my favorite bands are in there and I respect your taste.
@Lugh
There, just to make you happy, I'll mention Beyond fear's "Scream machine" as an excellent song. Haven't heard anyone scream as high as Owen since the golden times o master Halford.

Isn't there a band from the 80's called the sword I think they are more power metal. I got down listening to Ten Thousand Strong by iced earth it is ok sounds alot like the songs on the Glorious Burden.
Hey guys, I'm glad to see that you've gotten off to a good start.
I still, however, need the leader to check into the Clan HQ, and the clan rep needs to check into the Clan Council. I would appreciate it.
We don't have a clan leader so what would you guys like to do for that? Also, Shink hasn't posted here at all so I'm not sure what's going on there. Here's a thought I had earlier: I think we should try to keep the "Metal streaming through our veins" thread alive as possible even if we have to rehash some of our conversations we have here. It's a good place to snag new metalheads as they join up. Anyhow, I've massively hungover so I'm going to call it good for now and post about actual metal later.
Well, unless somebody has objections I am going to check in as the clan leader and the clan HQ. This is a title only and I would not be claiming to have any actual power over other clan members. If Shink doesn't show up soon we will need a new clan rep. I recommend ZombieMachine or Lady Valkyrie. That's about all for me. I haven't listened to any new metal lately but I have been enjoying my Nevermore dicography, especially This Godless Endeavor and Dead Heart in a Dead World.
Set says I should post in this thread, so I'm officially asking to be a friend, and request that you consider me as a potential member if you need one.
I'm some sort of Atog on all fora I care to post in. I'm 36, am a research fellow for the National Institute on Aging, and have played Magic for about 9 years.
I have indiscriminate tastes in music and will listen to everything from Iranpop to Leopold Mozart to John Williams to Insane Clown Posse. I prefer metal mostly because it complements my usually sluggish, laissez-faire disposition with a little energy and motivation. So the metal bands I prefer tend to reflect that need for motivation. My tastes don't make any sense from an educated metaller's classification point of view but tend toward the speed and prog end of things. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Metal Church, Megadeth, Testament, Saxxon, Manowar, Motörhead, Pantera, Voivod, GWAR, White/Rob Zombie, Corrosion of Conformity, Slayer, Ensiferum, Arch Enemy, Angra, Ensiferum, Cryptopsy, Meshuggah, CoB, Soilwork, In Flames, Edguy, Symphony X, Devin Townsend/SYL, Finntroll, Old Man's Child, Hammerfall, Helloween, BOC, Mercyful Fate, Thyrfing, Kiuas, Candiria, Sepultura in no particular order.
Oh yeah, and Dethklok.
Not a big fan of Nightwish, Opeth, and some other really otherwise skilled prog-melodeath bands because their songs have too much downtime. Sad to say, if the maniacal drums and guitars stop for even a minute, I lose interest quickly, even if I love the melodic quality. Also, some power/folk metal gets way too cheesy even if the technical aspects of the instrumental part are superb: Dragonforce, Avantasia, Blind Guardian, I'm looking askance at you
On to the metal. The new Lake of tears album titled "Moons and mushrooms" is a pretty sad thing. Long gone are the days of good old "Headstones" and LoT that was truly metal. This is just weak (imo).
The new Gorefest album, "Rise to ruin", is also somewhat of a disappointment after the truly great "La muerte" that preceded it. There are some decent songs, but I expected more of them. Anyway, if you have the chance to see them live - do it. They kick ass.
On to the horror. First one is "Turistas", a title that got a lot of press coverage for little merit. It' just another "kill the tourists and do nasty things with corpses" flick. Nothing amazing here.
The second - "The hills have eyes 2 (remake)". A little horror fan rant here, those of you who are not interested, skip this post until the end. Back in the day, a young director by the name of Wes Craven made a beastly movie called "The last house on the left" and it was an instant hit. It's gruesomeness rarely seen before. Then he made a movie named "The hills have eyes" and it cemented him as one of the most promising horror directors of his time. Later he would go on and invent Freddy Krueger in his "Nightmare on elm street" and become a legendary name. He did make a mistake early on and that was making "The hills have eyes 2". Point was, you can hardly make a decent sequel to a true survival horror.
Flash 29 years forward and Wes Craven gave the green light for a remake of his original to Alexandre Aja after seeing his "Switchblade romance" (a great flick, by the way). Aja remade "The hills have eyes" like a master, in many ways surpassing the original. Perhaps the best horror remake ever (to "Dawn of the dead" that is).
And what do they do next? They make a sequel to a remake! Insane. Now, the movie is shot nice, the acting is ok and the gore is good. But come on, the plot involves a bunch of malformed retards with pickaxes fighting an army unit wielding m-16 assault rifles - and wasting them. Forget about it. And about most remakes anyway. Do yourself a favour and go see HOT FUZZ. That's a movie (from the makers of "Shaun of the dead").

I have only recently got in to metal... I've been listening to it with keen interest for under a year... and Patrick introduced me to a band called Mercyful Fate.

\m/ \m/ I have loved the little bit of Therion I have heard. Specifically 'Birth of Venus Illegetima', but I'll definitely try and check out some more of their stuff. I like what I've heard of Iced Earth as well, and since Patrick has the entire discography (I think...) I'll figure out what albums and listen to them.
And I'll try and get him to find me some of the other stuff. But I love the way this guy sings! (King Diamond that is :D)
@Atog- Nice list! I'm a fan of Devin Townsend myself. Have you heard Synchestra yet? I'm not sure if that album is metal (still having a bit of trouble classifying properly and Patrick isn't in the room to make me look smarter about this stuff than I am :D), but it is really good. Symphony X, Meshuggah, and Manowar are awesome as well. And I think Metalocalypse is one of the best cartoons ever invented. I'll be buying the DVD's as soon as they come out.

I'm actually a pretty big fan of Symphony X. I have V: The New Mythology Suite and The Odyssey and enjoy them both quite a bit. Recently, however, I've been wanting something completely new. I've listened to pretty much every sub-genre of metal but I'm still hoping there's something completely new out there that will just "WOW!" me. I'm taking any suggestions.
In other news, our new friend Svogthir has proposed an alliance between our clans. How does everybody here feel about that?

Really? Because you can see a clip on Youtube where Danzig gets wasted by a fat guy from a support act. Guess all that gym training didn't do him much good, not to mention all the brawling with the Misfits gang. A fighter with even a bit of salt would never get himself k.o.'d that way. Weak.
