Its horrid when its your mom saying it. At least she doesn't say stuff like that in public. Though she has some rather...interesting nicknames for me that she does use in public sometimes.
I say it all the time. Sometimes it's tough being a mod of the crappiest forum on Salvation. It draws out the crappiest threads from the crappiest posters. I facepalm routinely.
But my secret plan to boost activity on the blogs, thereby funnelling off at least a bit of the crap, is slowly succeeding. Little by little, I'm starting to see fewer threads like "I bit my tongue today!" and "I'm really shy. Tell me what I'm doing wrong". I recently felled my greatest foe, the soul-crushing "I want a girlfriend but I suck, wah" and "I think my girlfriend hates me, does she hate me, tell me she doesn't hate me, how do I make her not hate me?" threads by merging them all into one uber-thread.
WCT will one day not be the lint-collector of the boards. I swear it.

Ja, jag kan tala lite svenska, men inte så mycket...
Min mor är svensk, so I have Swedish citizenship... But she didn't teach it to me and my brothers growing up, so what I do know I learned when I spent a semester abroad there in college.
I guess I need to practice it more, or I'll forget the bit that I do know. I could try speaking to my mom in Swedish as often as possible, but it's so much easier to just speak English...
Heylo, all. I haven't overmuch to report really, I'm afraid, nor can I contribute much to the current conversation. But I felt the need to share this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zQrcNujVTPA
Seriously, watch it. It's absolutely bizarre and I, at any rate, found it hysterically funny.

i have no clue about the first line, but the second line has something to do with your mother. Yay, context clues. Something like "my mom is swedish", perhaps?
Which part of the following doesn't belong?
Tornadoes. January. Wisconsin.
haha. There were like...5 tornadoes today. In the middle of January. And it was also almost 70 degrees. In case you don't know, Wisconsin is usually around 10 degrees above 0 at this time of year, and there's usually a few feet of snow on the ground.
Instead, we get tornadoes. And thunderstorms up the wazoo. Thankfully, no one i know was hurt or had their home damaged. I guess Parkside had some trees down, but that's not surprising considering the tornadoes were pretty much all around the campus.
It's wicked weird. I never thought I'd see that in my life.
It'll be interesting to see what the damage is tomorrow. They were talking about it a little on the news tonight...but since it was dark by that point, the actual amount of damage is unclear.
i wish school would start soon. i'm bored. but i have like..two more weeks. Lame!

My boyfriend is an electric utility dispatcher in Missouri, so he's probably having a very busy night with all the tornadoes and thunderstorms going on.

I said...
Ja, jag kan tala lite svenska, men inte så mycket.
Yes, I can speak a little Swedish, but not so much. Not sure whether I should have used så there... så=so (pronounced about the same too). I was going more for "but not that much."
But my secret plan to boost activity on the blogs, thereby funnelling off at least a bit of the crap, is slowly succeeding. Hah. I have to give you a retroactive "I'm sorry" on that one. I was totally that person in 7th and 8th grade. I wasn't on MTG Salvation then, but I assure you, I plagued many an internet forum with those kinds of threads.
School news: This semester I dropped out of APUSH, which was dissapointing some ways, but at the same time has totally saved my sanity. Because of the drop, I had to switch around three periods on my schedule, including lunch, theology, and my new history class. What this means is:
1) I have the latest lunch in the day.
2) I sit next to several very attractive men in theology. Of course, this also means I have to choose between "Pay attention to Jesus" and "Pay attention to, GEEZE your facial bone structure is immaculate."
3) In history, I sit next to a very attractive male who is interested in other males, according to Montana Sky. She/he is usually a reliable source. (He identifies as a he at the moment.) (I wish I was joking, but there is actually someone at my school who goes by the nickname Montana Sky.)

No harm, no foul. I get it. I just don't get why people can't read up on similar problems other people had first to see how they dealt with it/were advised to deal with it.
Scratch that, I know why no one does that. It's the dreaded "my problems are so unique and world-ending that no one else has gone through this nor will anyone ever feel this way" syndrome. I was there once.
1) I have the latest lunch in the day.
Wouldn't be a problem for me since my wake up time is probably around your early lunch. Late lunch = on time breakfast.
2) I sit next to several very attractive men in theology. Of course, this also means I have to choose between "Pay attention to Jesus" and "Pay attention to, GEEZE your facial bone structure is immaculate."
I hope this isn't a hard choice.

I love the names some people give themselves. Everyone makes fun of strange baby names, but I make fun of strange self-given names. I'm a dick, but really.
I gave myself the nickname Cyn-chan. My otaku friends and I were being nerdy and started refering to each other with Japanese honorifics. A friend wasn't sure what he should call me because I'm older than him and I said just call me Cyn-chan. Past nicknames(ones not chosen by me): Cindy(most people know me by this name), Cindy Boo(maternal grandpa), Cindy Lou(paternal grandpa), Baby Cindy(by my then 2 year old cousin), Helga(don't ask!), Cyn, Boo Boo, and I swear this is not a lie: Big Tit Cindy.
Scratch that, I know why no one does that. It's the dreaded "my problems are so unique and world-ending that no one else has gone through this nor will anyone ever feel this way" syndrome. I was there once.
Ah yes. Problems of the emo species, yes?
In other news, on the debate forum, I learned that the acceleration due to gravity can be changed by changing how much a vacuum "sucks."

1) If you don't believe in "realism," you're stupid.
2) If you say anything true, people will disagree with you, because metaphysics replaces reality with a kind of malleable goo.
3) If you believe that human life has value independent of theological considerations, you're a nihilist.

2) I sit next to several very attractive men in theology. Of course, this also means I have to choose between "Pay attention to Jesus" and "Pay attention to, GEEZE your facial bone structure is immaculate."
Why would you want to pay attention to Jesus? Do you go to a Catholic school or something?
I really get turned off by Debate anymore. I used to post there all the time, but now I just end up feeling frustrated and annoyed at having made the effort. I don't get the impression that collaborative discussion takes place most of the time, rather it's more about venting one's spleen and getting very upset at not scooping up a Debate victory right out.
I find that most of the time, if someone tells me something that really does seem reasonable, I'll listen or even change my ideas because of it. But what I see more often than not is continual failure to even try to understand what another person is saying, a disturbing number of logical fallacies, and when you eventually sit down and try to spell it out as best you can, you're a bastard for making such a long post.
It's tiring, and I guess the topics just don't interest me like they used to. There have been so, so many threads about Christianity. I honestly feel like I can't talk about Christianity any more, I've just been talked out about it for a good long while.
That, and the topics I tend to have some good stuff on (GLBTI stuff, feminist and post-feminist stuff, etc.) seems to be viewed as kind of uppity borderline taboo topics.
I think arguing secular ethics has some ground there, but it's hard in face of all the religion threads like I mentioned before.

That, and if you don't want your gender to be a straightjacket, that means you're destroying peace everwhere and you're probably a misandrist. And a lesbian. Or both.

It's a behaviour we see far too much of in Debate, and certainly indicative of the newbies. There's still several more seasoned vets who reliably bring great discussion, but the number of yippy, unrefined upstarts with something to prove have not been a great boon to the forum. I've seen several discussions hit the rocks when some debaters have simply gotten fed up with trying to argue with some of the others.
It's tiring, and I guess the topics just don't interest me like they used to. There have been so, so many threads about Christianity. I honestly feel like I can't talk about Christianity any more, I've just been talked out about it for a good long while.
I think the mire of religion-related threads in Debate again has something to do with the newbie mentality of striving to out-scream your opinions at others. And good topics for that are those that historically get people more fired up, topics such as religion. Everyone has some sort of opinion on religion, many regard those opinions as important, so there's no lack of arguments to be had in a religious debate. And when arguing is the whole point, a religious topic is a treasure trove. As we've seen lately.
On top of that, we've recently been dealing with one particularly disruptive poster who had a fancy for anti-theistic tirades. And who had a special way of pissing everyone off. He's the source of several of the more fiery religious threads.
That, and the topics I tend to have some good stuff on (GLBTI stuff, feminist and post-feminist stuff, etc.) seems to be viewed as kind of uppity borderline taboo topics.
A good tack to take. I myself now only post outside of modly duties in threads that truly interest me and have posted like that for two years now. I'd gotten burnt out on the constant barrage of attacks, counter-arguments and circling debates. Now I only post if the topic is something I value.
That, and the topics I tend to have some good stuff on (GLBTI stuff, feminist and post-feminist stuff, etc.) seems to be viewed as kind of uppity borderline taboo topics.
What I find is really interesting is that you can't talk about oppression, because it makes you a radical, and radicals are kind of like commies, and therefore Stalin.
I think arguing secular ethics has some ground there, but it's hard in face of all the religion threads like I mentioned before.
But now, we are so screwed up in this culture, so polarized and so fractured as a society, that we are now dehumanizing each other on an unprecedented scale. Now we have people in the mainstream saying that secular ethics don't even exist.
That, and if you don't want your gender to be a straightjacket, that means you're destroying peace everwhere and you're probably a misandrist. And a lesbian. Or both.

Actually, that user was suspended after claiming that I was violating the law by "trolling" him, (i.e. sigging his claim that one could increase the acceleration due to gravity by using a vacuum)

Sweet, I wasn't too far off on the mother one. Now I see the "Yes I can speak a little Swedish" part.
Swedish seems like an interesting language to learn. Perhaps one day I'll look into that further. Like, when the days magically have more than 24 hours in them.
Advanced Placement United States History. It's basically a college level class you take in high school. You take the AP test at the end of the year, in hopes that you test out of the credit in college. Or something.
Debate...I tend to avoid that forum. I never, EVER post there. Although, I do read some of the topics sometimes, just because there's nothing else to do. They can get pretty interesting, if there's intelligent people posting in the thread.

On top of that, we've recently been dealing with one particularly disruptive poster who had a fancy for anti-theistic tirades. And who had a special way of pissing everyone off. He's the source of several of the more fiery religious threads.
A good tack to take. I myself now only post outside of modly duties in threads that truly interest me and have posted like that for two years now. I'd gotten burnt out on the constant barrage of attacks, counter-arguments and circling debates. Now I only post if the topic is something I value.

What I find is really interesting is that you can't talk about oppression, because it makes you a radical, and radicals are kind of like commies, and therefore Stalin.
But now, we are so screwed up in this culture, so polarized and so fractured as a society, that we are now dehumanizing each other on an unprecedented scale. Now we have people in the mainstream saying that secular ethics don't even exist.
Kind of puts the straight in straightjacket, eh?
At one point, one of my "comrades" claimed that logic was a bourgeois tool to oppress the masses. Lulz ensued.
Less kind words leap more immediately to my mind, but we'll go with that.
Actually, that user was suspended after claiming that I was violating the law by "trolling" him, (i.e. sigging his claim that one could increase the acceleration due to gravity by using a vacuum)
Your modeling duties? Do tell!
Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}
I'm nothing if not tactful. Yet another way being a moderator has ruined my life.
I'm well aware. I'm one of the ones popping the champagne in the mod cave. Also, note the past tense when I refer to him.
Mostly the new Abercrombie & Fitch stuff. I get to play lacrosse down by the lakehouse with my buds. We all get naked and swing our sticks around. Fashion modelling is so much fun.

I know it seems that I don't care,
but something in me does I swear.
