How do roads handle that (inaccurate) number of cars each day?
Chalk one up for Engineering!
Whoo!
Although I'm mechanical and not civil...
You would crap a brick if you saw the travesty that is the Hanover Street Bridge. Built in 1911, it's an old beat-up steel drawbridge that doesn't 'draw' anymore.
The posted speed limit over the bridge is 35, but I've seen trucks go over that thing at least going 40 if not 50, as it's at the bottom of a hill. The shearing stress rips up the metal struts in the bridge surface and works them loose, so at any given time there are ~2 jagged holes in the surface. Random iron strut bars fly up and whack people's windshields (I have a piece of the bridge sitting on my bookshelf). The city solves this problem by soldering sheet metal over the holes, but the sheet metal bucks and comes loose and transfers shear stress to the bars it's soldered to. Then one day the sheet metal comes off and flies up and crashes into someone's windshield. It make such a racket that I can't bike to work without ear plugs.
Well, sometime last year the city took pity on the bridge (it's the only way into downtown from south county, besides the Toll Tunnel, so used by a lot of heavy semis and trucks hauling stuff into town) and they replaced the metal grates. But the speed limit is still too high, obviously they understand the concept of a weight limit on the bridge but not shear stress, which is the real problem. So now the new struts are looking rather beat-up.
I wouldn't get so worked up about it if I hadn't been almost hit in the face by the piece of metal gridwork I have on my shelf. Speed limit please.
I got back from my first day in my new job about 2 hours ago. It was a pretty good start, and I'm comfortable with all my responsibilities. In fact, I'm working alongside the girl who pipped me to the post with the original job application. She's 20, has been there for 3 weeks, and is showing me the ropes. I'm also shadowing a more experienced teaching assistant, but mostly I just learn by doing. It's great.
I'm pretty beat (10 miles cycling each day now - 5 uphill), so I'm clocking off for now.
'Fox.
Well goodluck with that shadowfox and best wishes to you always.
Blah i have alot of laundry to do today since i have work tommorrow but then i have thurseday off which isnt too bad. Other then that though I was thinking of playing some more ff12 see if i can finish the 2nd to last dungeon I am pretty close to the end but i might just put it off until my next day off though we will see. All in all though i will finish the game eventually.
I actually really like the cheesecake factory i think there is like 2-3 of them here in las vegas. I like their food though its pretty good but very expensive but its all banquet type of food so its all good. Well I am going to get off i will talk to you all soon though.
By the way it is time for legacy of the week!
This week i will be covering over a powerful survival deck in the legacy format. This deck is called Recsur aka Recurring Survival. Ever since the good old worlds days this deck has been coming off and on as one of the most innovative decks in the history of magic. This deck does take quite a bit of skill to play correctly but if you do you can pretty much take on a great variety of decks in the legacy format.
Here is the deck list. This particular recsur build was piloted by a german player all the way to the finals in the 2007 legacy german championships and won the whole thing. The tournament had a huge attendance of over 170 players full of the best decks in legacy like threshold, 43 lands, cephalid breakfast(even though i dont quite agree with this personally), and of course good old landstill.
Academy Rector: A powerful creature that is a great engine for this deck. This creature can basically power out any enchantment you want depending on the situation. It is very much like an enlightened tutor for this deck except more efficient since you can fetch any enchantment directly into play. In alot of cases this can be just as handy as having survival of the fittest in play. Also can give you better mulliganing decisions as well.
Bone Shredder: This creature has proved to me it is a awesome threat in this deck especially in this format where alot of goyfs are in everybody's decks.
Carrion Feeder:I could see two very potent roles for this creature. One is you can sacrifice any creature to fuel this deck as a whole to do what it needs to do to win games. Like for example you can use the ability of the feeder to sacrifice academy rector to search for either survival of the fittest, pernious deed or anything else depending on what your facing.
Eternal Witness: Probably the best green creature in legacy as far as utility goes and I especially like it since you can basically recur your cabal therapies and duresses over again to give you the edge on blue based decks.
Harmonic Sliver: Destroys pithing needle on either pernious deed or survival of the fittest.
Kokusho, the evening star: Great card against just about any aggro or aggro-control deck in the format. Plus it can pretty much swing you games especially in the late game.
Loxodon Hierarch: Another kokusho like creature except having it cost 2 less can help immensely against aggro related decks. Loxodon hierarch is definetly a better early game card against aggressive decks then kokusho although both of them are great in their own ways.
Sakura-Tribe elder: Great at stabalizing your manabase and most important of all you can basically negate any non-basic land hate thrown at you with sakura-tribe elder.
Squee, Goblin Nabob: Fetching nabob with survival of the fittest first is probably one of the most important fundamentals when playing with this deck. Nabob pretty much negates the draw back of survival of the fittest and lets you utilitize any card just about in your deck almost for free.
wall of roots: Definetly needed especially against the faster decks of the format since it adds mana acceration.
Withered wretch: Great card against any grave-yard orientated deck which tends to sprout out in big numbers nowadays in the format.
Yosei, the morning star: You can pretty much lock down any deck with this card which should buy you the time to swing and win.
Cabal therapy: Pretty much a given in a deck like this and this discard is deadly with eternal witness.
Duress: Pretty much does the samething as therapy except therapy being a better mid to late game discard then duress. Any discard in this deck is great since you can basically take out alot of opposing disruption and then operate this deck fully.
Moat: Great card against almost any creature deck in the format. Plus fetching this with academy rector is just too good not to use in this deck.
Pernious Deed: Probably the most efficient mass removal spell in legacy and best of all you can fetch it with academy rector.
Recurring Nightmare: Another big piece to this deck since you can pretty much recurr any creature in this deck. Although it isn't always needed to win matches.
Survival of the fittest: The deck's namesake card so I probably don't have to say much except for the fact it is a powerful engine in this deck. Although you will not always need survival either to win games since academy rector can do alot of utility on it's own too.
Kataki, War's Wage: I am not sure if there is alot of affinity in the german meta but other then that this could be useful against low land count decks that pack in artifacts.
Karmic Guide: Another utility creature that can serve a big part in recsur's engine.
Krosan Grip: Destroys pithing needle, counterbalance, and other artifacts/enchantments but most important of all it can not be countered obviously.
Rule of law: Good sideboard choice against storm combo decks.
Choke: Great card against any blue based deck just about.
Leyline of the void: A more versatile graveyard hate utility card then withered wretch is in alot of cases.
Ivory Mask: Great against storm combo decks(except empty the warrens) and also decks like belcher.
Matchup Analysis:
Cephalid Breakfast: This match can be favorable to not favorable at all depending on how fast your opponent goes off if your opponent has to spend more turns going off for the win the better your chances are. I would fetch for moat as soon as you can but you might not make it in time. Postboard gets better for you since you can sideboard in leyline of the void and when needed you can also fetch for it with academy rector.
Threshold: Like cephalid breakfast if threshold is on a fast start your chances of winning a game can be slim. However I don't really have trouble playing against threshold from my several games of playtesting against threshold with recsur. You probably will want to fetch for pernious deed and also Moat asap. Also boneshredder will help out in this matchup as well as loxodon hierarchs. When you have a much better disrupting hand in the form of deed, and discard your chances of winning against threshold is good as well. Postboard gets better though since you can sideboard in another loxodon hierarch, another deed, and also choke can also pretty much win you games as well.
CRET Belcher: A very hard matchup for recsur. However just like threshold and cephalid breakfast the slower the start for the combo player has the better. Postboard gets a little better though with ivory mask, and krosan grips.
Iggy Pop: Also a hard matchup for recsur since they have the potential to combo off on turn 2. Postboard has the potential to be much better though bringing in leyline of the voids can stop Iggy's ill gotten gains storm combo loop in a hurry. Not to mention ivory mask and rule of law along with discard will help as well.
43 Lands: This matchup will be very hard as well since you don't really have any outs to maze of ith which can shut down this deck by itself. Also for the fact that 43 lands has a much more efficient mana acceration engine in the form of manabonds and exploration then recsur as well.
Landstill: Depending on if you can draw your discard your chances of winning against landstill gets better. I would say this matchup can be about even but can usually swing in landstill's favor too. Postboard can get better though with chokes and another deed(for manlands).
@Kev:
Maybe it's just because I don't know a lot about the older formats, but I'm surprised to see cards like Sakura-tribe Elder, Yosei, and Harmonic Sliver kicking around with cards like Moat and Savannah. It's really nifty that a lot of the newer cards are actually being used in older formats.
Plus we've got some pretty freaky weather here.. Right now its 32 degrees and earlier today it was HAILING... and its been raining and really windy and stormy on and off all day..... Maybe its not that weird, but the hail was a surprise.... I've been getting these "Rochester, NY: Severe weather alert" things on my desktop Firefox weather thingie...
I know what you mean about the weather. Winter finally showed its true self today here in Ohio - I walked out this morning to find my car covered in a layer of frost and the door frozen shut. It's been relatively tolerable during the daytime, but at night it's apparently been getting very cold.
In other news, I think I just discovered Fifty First Dates - the anime. Awesomeness. I found it an intriguing premise the first time I saw it, so I'll be watching this one as it comes out.

Yep its a pretty cool deck i had alot of fun playing with it. i mean its something different from just playing threshold and other blue based control decks all of the time. Even though i pretty much play everything in legacy. But the other pretty cool thing is it won a pretty big size legacy tournament with no goyf.
Nice i should try to get into some more anime even though i still want to purchase the last two episodes of ikki tousen since i bought the first two awhile back and i enjoyed the anime.
Well i am going to post my rbu casual deck later tonight ill talk to you all soon.
I can dig that Omna. Down here in Rockland it was roughly 60-70 over the weekend and today was under 40. It went from shorts weather to holy-hell-I-don't-think-I-can-make-it-to-class weather.
My Phys. Ed. teacher tried to bring us outside to play rugby and my class almost mutinied. There was no way in HELL we were going to play touch rugby in the friggin' artic tundra.

Posting a deck for everyone. i am very proud of it and quite a few people have asked for the list.
Final Fantasy.dec
This deck is based on a deck that came out when Mirodin came out, and is what was ultimately responsible for Tinker, Grim Monolith and Metalworker getting the axe in old Extended. Where before they were strong, they didn't often show up competitvely (except Tinker in some decks)
But a deck that gets infinite turns reliably turn two is ban worthy.
What is Final Fantasy.dec? It is a deck which takes infinite turns with Final Fortune. The original deck would play a first turn monolith or worker, second turn Scepter with Fortune and take an extra turn, and third turn Tinker for Platinum Angel.
I have been wanting to remake Final Fantasy for ages. It is one of the most fun combo decks ever made honestly. most combos involve some elaborate loop which wins the game right away, Final Fantasy instead sets up a prolonged loop whereas you cannot lose the game. It is similar to Life.dec, only more annoying because your opponent does not even get a turn.
The problem is how to make it consistant.
Recent sets have given us some nifty tools which make the idea possible gain.

As you can see, it has turned into a control deck.
Angel's Grace and Trickbind are like mini-platinums, and answer alot of things in there own right.
The deck has more than one way to go off now as well.
I think the deck screams pristine angel but that could just be me. Otherwise looks like a fun deck. Although the fire/ice imprinted on a scepter can go the distance against alot of decks.
Well I have work tommorrow for only 5 hours and i will probably get some sleep within an hour or something. I will talk to you all soon though. Have a great night everyone and sweet dreams! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Im in total fever..My fiance is typing this right now.. See ya in a few days..
Feel better soon my friend.
@alacar: have a good day.
I also greatly appreciated for the people that voted for me for being a canditate for best legacy strategist. As I worked hard in the format for 5 years.
Anyway I just wanted to stop by and say good morning going to get ready for a 5 hour shift today not too bad but i am pretty tired since i had trouble getting to sleep last but ill manage. Have a good one everyone and also a good week. I have thurseday off though which is going to be great.
Congrats on your nomination Cecilia. By the way, how does that Rec-Sur list matchup in the metagame? Can it beat Goblins?
Plus if you feel like throwing down 80 bucks, Duress is easily replaced by Thoughtseize.

Wow, I rented Guitar Hero 3 today, and I gotta say, its good (this of course is a first reaction), except the put the worst social distortion song on it.
Okay, well, Best Buy just called and told me that I wasn't what they're looking for. Now I have a question. Can someone who is good at resumes and stuff IM or PM me so I can ask them a question?

There wasn't a whole lot of goblins at the legacy championships so I dont think the current list is capable of beating goblins consistently but thats because goblins is going on the decline in the current metagame. Although there was another recsur list that top 8 at a 900 player tournament in GP lille and that had a whole lot of goblins so recsur is capable of doing well in any metagame and recsur is much like landstill you have to tweek it for it to respond well in specific/varied metagames. The reason goblins is dropping considerably in status is because threshold decks that pack in 4 tarmogoyfs thats usually UGR threshold. UGR thresh can beat goblins more then 50 percent of the time if both players on both sides were equal in skill. Also the fact that there are alot of combo decks(that can show up in noticable numbers) like the epic storm, iggy pop, grim iggy, and ichrorid bridge that can considerably out run goblins usually.
Well the reason why the recsur list doesn't have thoughtseize is because the german legacy champs happened before lorwyn was even released.
Blah. I almost won round seven of the tournament... but then I lost due to bad luck on my part in the second game, and just got killed in the third. I really thought I was gonna go 2-0 that time. Ah well. Sigh.
At least I'm heading up to WSU tomorrow. Seeing my friends always cheers me up. This Saturday is when I was supposed to have my farewell party, and after talking to some people, it appears that people actually took off work and such to attend it, so we'll probably still have it even though I'm not going to Japan as of right now. It's at the Red Lobster up by WSU, of course (*points to Coffeehouse title*). The plan after that is to go bowling. Seeing as how that won't be until Saturday, I'm going up there tomorrow to try to see who's coming and what the gameplan is since I'm not actually going to Japan. Sigh. Again.
I've been sort of mopish due to the whole thing, and I've looked at several jobs but haven't actually applied to any yet. I think I probably look like my current avatar lately. They have an opening for supervisors at the telemarketing firm I work for, though, and I'll be applying to that, since it's leagues better than being a standard communicator (read: phone peon). With my history of being habitually late and having low performance (since I hate the job), I'm not sure if they'll consider me or not, but it's worth a shot.
@Nai:
Send me a PM; I might be able to help you. I've done a lot of those things.
homing sliver is great for getting exactly which sliver you need. Don't cast him much, just cycle it. Harmonize is a god-send in the deck, and burn on the side helps clear the board for your attack.
you also might want to make room for the dual-colored slivers, especially Cautery sliver. that card is amazing, either to keep slivers from dying, or to luach off te last few points of damage to your opponent once they've stabilized the board.
Alternativly, you can go with the GUR sliver strat that was the key to the sliver kids winning PT San Diego.

Maybe the deck could use akroma's memorial but thats probably too much mana to cast and probably wouldn't fit well in the aggro strategy of slivers. Hehe i am becoming more of a casual player. I am working on it at least but probably won't work on it fully until after december.
I kind of feel like sharing this poem I just wrote, I sort of doubt anyone will want to comment on it because the message makes people feel uncomfortable, plus I deliver it in an "in your face" sort of way.
Sludge
I can’t take this any more.
What is the problem with these people?
Everyone is wrong, everyone disgusting.
The painful recognition, blinding.
Vanity, the sin, the ache.
All lust, always, for all time.
I’m fed up, why should I comply?
Why lay down in the mold
If it’s turned everyone into garbage?
No one cares for personality,
No one understands beauty.
But the reason I hate this most,
I cannot escape this sludge.
It’s consuming me as much
As it has swallowed every other.
And I feel powerless to change it.
FLCL: Ah, I love guitar hero. What do you mean, you AAed the song?

Landstill: Depending on if you can draw your discard your chances of winning against landstill gets better. I would say this matchup can be about even but can usually swing in landstill's favor too. Postboard can get better though with chokes and another deed(for manlands).
Well that is this weeks legacy of the week!
Love,
Cecilia
Maybe it's just because I don't know a lot about the older formats, but I'm surprised to see cards like Sakura-tribe Elder, Yosei, and Harmonic Sliver kicking around with cards like Moat and Savannah. It's really nifty that a lot of the newer cards are actually being used in older formats.
Love,
Cecilia
My Phys. Ed. teacher tried to bring us outside to play rugby and my class almost mutinied. There was no way in HELL we were going to play touch rugby in the friggin' artic tundra.

I'm sure the knowledge that Darksteel Colossus was coming added to Tinker being banned as well.
Let us take a look at my list
1 Echoing Truth
4 Final Fortune
4 Fire/Ice
4 Isochron Scepter
4 Remand
4 Thirst for Knowledge
4 Angel's Grace
1 Pact of Negation
4 Trickbind
4 Cloudpost
4 Tolaria West
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Steam Vents
1 Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
1 Minamo, School at Water's Edge
4 Flooded Strand

Congrats on your nomination Cecilia. By the way, how does that Rec-Sur list matchup in the metagame? Can it beat Goblins?
Plus if you feel like throwing down 80 bucks, Duress is easily replaced by Thoughtseize.

8/10 so far.
My helpdesk should you need me.
Thanks by the way.
Love,
Cecilia
Hunter-- That royally sucks. Get well soon.
Allin-- Polluted Delta is not standard legal. Underground Sea should be in there. Too add, maybe one more of each planeswalker and another Damnation, or a combination of Tendrils of Corruption and Mystical Teachings.
Nai-- Ouch. Sorry about that. I can't help you with resume stuff.
Now currently studying for midterms and doing work. I have three midterms next week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
@Nai:
Send me a PM; I might be able to help you. I've done a lot of those things.
please don't. I run slivers and that deck doesn't look like it'll be that good at all.
first off:
-2 bonesplitter
-4 pulmonic
-2 essence
-2 gemhide
these are the expensive slivers, and not *that* good for the cost. 4 gemhide is overkill, as well
+4 homing sliver
+2 Harmonize
+2 Incinerate/Sudden Shock
homing sliver is great for getting exactly which sliver you need.
Currently Playing:

i AAed a lv 8 hard song!
omg omg omg omg dying
sry itinerant for exploding on you, the first time you aimed me i was almost done completly comboing it, so i had to start again, but no worries
Maybe the deck could use akroma's memorial but thats probably too much mana to cast and probably wouldn't fit well in the aggro strategy of slivers. Hehe i am becoming more of a casual player. I am working on it at least but probably won't work on it fully until after december.
see you all soon!

Cecilia
I kind of feel like sharing this poem I just wrote, I sort of doubt anyone will want to comment on it because the message makes people feel uncomfortable, plus I deliver it in an "in your face" sort of way.
