I think that title would make sense, from what little I know of the game's background. I think the characters are the actual Norse gods who were thrown out of Asgard for some reason or another.
@Sepiriel: Yeah, it's going to be d20 Modern. I'm already running a D&D campaign with Josh and Mams so I wanted to do something different.
Mushishi isn't much like MiB at all; I didn't watch the whole thing, but it has a sort of relaxed pace and a very pastoral feel. (It's kind of on the slow side for me.)
Mr. Stuff, have you considered finding a media for AotW that would reach a wider audience? I love reading it, but only a handful of people see it. (I'm currently watching Karin primarily on your recommendation.)
I wouldn't mind jumping into a tut quest, if you have room for me...probably about time I learn the ropes of this...

Looks like things are chugging along. I'll get the AotWs and LotWs up on post #2 soon, promises.
As for me. well.. I'm trying to be subtle.. but have YOU voted yet? Look at me or Omna or Snoop or Ethersphere--don't they deserve a trophy? Do you even know what category they're in? [/shameless campaigning]
Well.. d20 can get confusing at times--explaining how the skill selection process for Omna was a bit of a challenge, but once you learn the basics, it only gets easier (until you hit level 21)
Charm_Master--have you found Jhoira's skin color yet?
Series: Black Lagoon
Episodes: 24
Genre: Action, More Action, Even More Action
Production: Madhouse
Okajima Rokuro is your average Japanese salaryman. He got an office job out of college and never looked back. Nothing out of the ordinary seems to happen to him - until one day when he is asked to deliver a relatively innocent-seeming floppy disk for his company to the tropical seas of Eastern China. On the way the boat gets hijacked by a few roughnecks in a torpedo-boat known as the Black Lagoon, and they take Rokuro hostage along with his disk. It turns out the disk contains information harmful to the company if it were to fall into the wrong hands, and well, rather than risk it, the company orders the Black Lagoon, the disk, and Rokuro along with it blown sky high. They call in a mercenary strike team, and with his life now worthless in Japan, the newly nicknamed "Rock" finds himself fighting alongside the members of the Black Lagoon for survival.
Once this crisis is over, however, Rock knows he can't go back... but would life aboard a mercenary torpedo boat be all that bad? The crew, consisting of a hard-ass female mercenary named Revy who is nicknamed "two-hands" for her skill with her dual pistols, Dutch, the boat's tough-muscled Heineken-swigging captain, and Benny, the group's computer and information specialist, seems to have taken to Rock for some reason - and he soon finds himself enjoying his newfound life on the not-so-high seas, dangerous and seedy though it may be.
One thing you'll notice about Black Lagoon right away - Revy kicks ass. Hard. She just doesn't take no for an answer, and would rather shoot her way out any given situation than look for a diplomatic answer. Rock provides a natural counterbalance for her, sometimes finding the easy way out that Revy was unwilling to see because it didn't involve force. Add in all the rest of the wonderfully concepted and seedy characters that populate the fictional port city of Roanapur in Thailand where the Black Lagoon's headquarters are, and you have one heck of a show. From Chinese assassins to South American terminator-like maids to Nazi soldiers to chainsaw-wielding butchers and everything in between - there's not an action villain the team doesn't find a way to square off against. You'll see some of the most spectacular and gritty gunfighting action this side of Cowboy Bebop.
The show at times takes itself seriously, but then at other times goes over-the-top in big ways, throwing down fistfights on top of moving cars, and other improbable but decidedly entertaining situations. In this case, the awesomeness is generally more than enough to overcome any incredulity - you'll find yourself not caring how improbable a given situation is because you're enjoying watching it so much. If you liked Cowboy Bebop (and who didn't?), it's a safe bet to assume you'd at least like this show a little bit. It's not got a whole lot of the deepness that made Bebop so amazing, but it replaces it with more outrageous characters and over-the-top gunfights and explosions. Some have called it the cheesy "B-Action-movie" version of Bebop, and I would tend to agree - but I would argue that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you enjoy movies like the recent "Live Free, Die Hard", you'll feel right at home here.
actually, I have, now I'm working on the hair, which is a real pain since its so detailed.
I'm gonna try again to send you some music, the last one got bounced back to me

@ethersphere: Do you plan on running your campaign as a regular campaign with new players in it or as a tutorial campaign for said new players? I'm happy playing in either one (and I'm more than happy to help the new guys if it's a tutorial campaign), but I'm just wondering what I'm getting into.
As for me. well.. I'm trying to be subtle.. but have YOU voted yet? Look at me or Omna or Snoop or Ethersphere--don't they deserve a trophy? Do you even know what category they're in? [/shameless campaigning]
It's like a "get out and vote" campaign. There's a natural assumption that if the people reading this get out and vote, they will vote for you (or your friends). You tricky, tricky Alacar, you.
Well.. d20 can get confusing at times--explaining how the skill selection process for Omna was a bit of a challenge, but once you learn the basics, it only gets easier (until you hit level 21)
That is so true. It's really quite simple except for skills (which can get a little confusing). But when you hit level 21, it seems like all the rules of "no, you can't do that because it would break the game in half" disappear and crazy things happen.
@Mr. Stuff: Is it just me, or did you just put up two Anime of the Weeks (Animes of the Week?) in one day?
@ethersphere: Do you plan on running your campaign as a regular campaign with new players in it or as a tutorial campaign for said new players? I'm happy playing in either one (and I'm more than happy to help the new guys if it's a tutorial campaign), but I'm just wondering what I'm getting into.
It'll be a regular old campaign, but I was thinking if I have enough new players participating I might take things a little more slowly. The most exotic thing I'm doing so far is the 32-point buy, a custom creation of Mamelon's. Everything else is going pretty much by the book.
By the way, anyone interested: the signup thread is up now in the Inn. Feel free to take a look.
@Krash:
There was a period where I missed about a month's worth of them. I think I'm behind by about five. My goal is to do six total this week, so I'll be all caught up. I'll have the third one up later today. I must apologize if that seems like a lot, but well, now that I've gotten backen into the swing of it, I'm actually kind of having fun.
@Joyd:
I consider this "practice" for if there ever comes a time that I start doing this for real. So yeah - you may see me reviewing stuff on some website or magazine some day, who knows. Right now though, my main concern lies in finding a teaching job in Japan. I want to do that more than I want to review things. I hope you enjoy Karin. It's a great series with a lot of fun moments, and although the ending wasn't the most satisfying thing in the world, it's still worth watching on the strength of its individual episodes.
Give me a minute, Alacar, and I'll get the links together for you so you can put them up. There's one missing from the list, and so the numbers are off right now.
same here. I posted saying that it's a shame I can't come.

I think I'm going to save a classic for #50, or otherwise do something special for it. For something I just decided to do in my spare time, I'm surprised I've kept it going this long, and it doesn't seem like it's slowing down. I guess I should thank Omna for getting me to bring it back after around 20 or so. It's turned out to be something I really enjoy doing.
I'm glad you brought it back, I've been watching several of these thanks to your recommendations. I'm not into anime as much as you, but having a few things to look at is always good...

@Zaphod: I'm not sure which of the 3 versions of that banner I like the best. Looking back at them, the first one looked a little bland, the second one the colors looked a little off, but with the third one you're starting to lose some of the interesting qualities you get from having the solid color go across the entire banner. I think the Heirarch could definitely use some more green over him, and right now it just looks like a standard blended-art banner.
I think if you want to get that effect back, try removing all of the changes in coloration from the lower layers, putting a solid green/yellow-green layer over the top of everything, setting the opacity to 50% (or maybe a bit more) and setting the blend mode to Color. That will give you the green coloration that you had in the previous banners, but it may eliminate the weird clashing colors of the second banner. Also, because the opacity of the color layer is less than 100%, you'll see some of the original colors coming through and it won't looks a bland as the first version.
As we've seen on the last few tries, I can't promise any of this will actually come out looking better, but it's just some stuff to try. Also, if you don't like the looks of that, try removing the color changes altogether and going in a different direction. Maybe make a heavily blurred (Gaussian Blur, 3-4 pixels at least) overlay layer of the flattened image over top of everything and possibly brushing some interesting effects in.
Wow. . . I should post more often. . . it's been ten pages. . .
SnoopDoggAtog-- That sucks. I hope everything turns out well for you.
Worlds-- I can't go. I lack funds, and I would be studying for finals that weekend.
Nai-- Wow. I would have expected the game to be a bit less repetitive, especially considering all the hype it was getting.
Zaphod-- *Stares at third banner* Oooh, cool. The darker shade of green behind the black creature, and the lighter shade of green behind the white creature is a nice touch.
It's going to get busy for me soon. I have a psych paper to write, a CAD assembly to help make, with a report on it, and a small amount of programming homework (thank goodness for that). After that, just finals and I'll be done. Speaking of programming, that class is coming up soon. I'll try to stop back in later tonight.
So my computer died again. The power supply burnt out. So I don't have a computer right now. I'm trying to get it replaced, but for some reason, Best Buy requires that they send it in to HP with a 'no lemon' message, wait for HP to send a message back, and -then- they can replace it for me. Which may take at least a week and a half. I'm hoping that my mom and I can be enough of a curmudgeon together that we can get them to replace it now. Nothing says "Do whatever you can to get rid of me" by questioning company policy, especially stupid policy.

I remember when my old computer died twice due to viruses and we had to reinstall the operating system both times. I'm a lot more careful about those things now, plus Windows XP is better than 2000 or (ugh) ME and Firefox is a lot less susceptible to viruses than IE is.
