@Cyan, Didja leave a message? My phone works but not when I am in my home, office, or the field. Which gives me a small window of oppertunity. I check my messages regularly so I know who called....case the phone wont record if I missed calls. Its a bum deal, specialy since my roomate, who has the same phone service I do, gets three bars while in the house!
@Ria
Well I was feeding the birds worms, you know, the kind the mommie bird comes by and feeds. I used forcepts to lower the worm into the birds mouths and they ate them up. The Autopsy showed that their stomachs were full of worms but none of the were digested. Perhaps they were over fed, but they died overnight and their location was not the warmest. They lot in life wasn't the best though, curse the mom for building a nest on a matress in a TeePee.
I guess you guys all figured out what all those orange trees were in those pics I was showing. Really hard to understand the extend of the Rocky Mountain Bark Beetle without seeing it. The entire forest is devastated and it is getting worse. The national forests wont do anything because their
philosophy is one of preservation, do nothing and let nature handle itself. A decent philosophy if you actualy follow it. The problem is when you take out key environmental factors then say nature will handle itself, sure it will, but in devastating cycles that we, as humans, do not want. They took out Fire and the top predators "then" said lets keep it natural. This is what we get and its far from what would have happened if european influence didn't come by.

Well, today has been amazing. I have now managed to get a week ahead in every single one of my classes. The school called today, and informed me I should just stay home, and they'd count me as present.

Well we hit the unlucky 14th page on the last thread! Tsk tsk!
I updated my age here (32... ooold). And I agree with talking about Travis' whereabouts (that little shmuck!) and the fact that we really should have a meet. Even if it's just 3 or 4 of us. I mean come on. Are we not friends?
* rancored_elf isn't sure he wants that answered *
Wow, I just eBayed Sea Drake. What the crap? How'd that happen? Is it in a deck or something? I have like 30 of it! *checking* Okay maybe not but I know I have a few at least. I bought TONS of portal 1 and 2 back in the day. Boxes of it, when it was cheap like borscht! For years and years, nobody wanted the stuff. I LOVED it because it has great artwork, cards that could easily be legal but simply aren't, and tons of stuff for casual decks! Lots of Guay art, too! So tell me why the drake is so pricey now all of a sudden.

I agree. It only works if you do it all the way, not half. We stop forests from burning, which they used to do all the time before we got here. And we let the Pine Beetle run free. Actually up here in Canada I believe we do some preventative measures, but not much. I know that we sometimes harvest an area that is going to be ruined anyway, and then replant it a few years later, widely spaced. But that's not the rule, it's just something I know is done here and there. I'm not really sure what's best - I haven't researched it enough - but I know many parts of my lovely BC are looking pretty auburn! And that's strange for a coniferous forest!
* Binary Dragon wishes Daron would post more awesome cabin pictures. They're so much prettier (especially the ones with Sammy).
Okay, okay, let's see if I have any.
We got a slingshot and I was trying to hit sammy in the butt with it, from the deck.
My sammy!
Some girl came along with her parents to see if they wanted to buy the lot across the street. She came over to sketch our cabin. I'm not sure why. So I took a picture of her.
Then, she offered to let me take a picture of her sketch, so I did. Cool, huh?
you have no idea how badly I want to come to your house! I would have to bring my wife at least...she's never been out of the country! She's great people though so we would chill with wine and chocos.....lay on the beach and soak up the sun in the middle of December!:D

An interesting thing about the rocky mountain bark beetle is that it is natural...and that a healthy tree is immune to it. So that just shows that our forests are unhealthy. Or at the very least at a degree of stress where epidemic sized infestation and disease is possible. Seriously there isn't a forest in america that isn't under attack by something, foreign or not. One of the most devastating I can recall is when the dutch elm disease took out 1/4th of every tree in the east. youch.
As far as a clan meet, I'm currently in financial recovery mode, which means that for me a clan meet would have to be in the continental united states or Canada. Preferably on the west side of the continental divide too. But basicaly I can go wherever I can drive my car. Sorry Ria. Probably would have to wait until after my internship is over. By then I should have recovered financialy enough that a trip like that will only revert me back to where I am today. :-p
Hrm....a small comment turned into a rather long financial rant...well not so much a rant, but I figured it aught to be in spoiler anyway.
I did consolidate all my credit cards recently. Now they are all on one card at 14% APR. Not the best, the largest chunk basicaly got upped one or two percent just for the convienence of having everything on one card, a smaller bit got reduced by four percent. So I figure it balances out, eitherway I'm paying a smaller amount. And this way I can close that blasted accout which I got through deception, sure it has the best deal currently (not when I got it...other cards got worse over time) but a card through deception is still bad. So boo on Washington Mutual. My goal is to nock it all down by about $3000 in five months. Should be easy and something that will bring peace of mind.
The sad thing is that it took me an entire week to get the deal my credit card company was offering. Every day I called them, trying to get ahold of a manager or somebody that knew something. When they said that the offer I was promised simply didn't exist I called up the bank representative and asked her about it...which confused her greatly. Finaly I got it hammered out. So now one monthly payment on the credit cards, then student loans, then car. Parents keep telling me that when I look at my debts I'm not suppose to count the car and student loan. Isn't that like the government budgeting and not counting the cost of a war?
I did try to get a loan from the bank. But they said something about it being an unsecured loan and offered me an interest rate higher than my credit cards. Bah, just cause the most expensive thing I own is still my camera doesn't mean I'm unsecured....well technicaly I suppose. (car is technicaly owned by my dad, I'm not even a co-signer)
Next thing on the list....seeing if refinancing my student loan will do anything. Not that I completely understand what refinancing is, or even credit scores and stuff to be honest. But I hear it would be a good thing.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

But Australia has Australia, which compared to the Southwest, that's pretty full of win.
++ did I mention it's Australia? And how I still have to smuggle one of the large red kangaroos in a veil as my bride from Kyrgyzstan, so I can train it to wear boxing gloves, and keep it as a pet?
Then there's the whole part about fiscal viability, but that's kind of a drag regardless of where it's located for me, so I'm siding with Australia until things become more realisitic, then I'm still siding with Australia, because I need to kidnap a kangaroo.
A sensible argument. Looks like it's settled, then! You guys can fight over the couch, everyone else ---> backyard duty so bring a tent. Or sleep on the beach, that's fine.
I guess that means Dan's going boozing tonight. 2 for 1's before 6pm? Oh, too late, missed that sale. But wait, it's before 6pm on Saturday already, isn't it? SWEET!
Um Chris, a quick bit of advice.
- Consolidating debt into one place can be good, but not if you're taking a hit to the interest rate! You probably should have left the cheaper debt where it was, and "suffered" through paying two bills per month. An extra stamp, big deal! If it saves you $100 in interest, do it! Also. Dude, 14% is BAD. Call them up and say you want 10%. Don't let them talk you down above 12%. Tell them you've got an offer from another credit card for 10%, but you're willing to stick with them at 12% because you've been with them a while, trust them, and it's a pain to switch over. 12% and no more! Geez, 14%?
- Once you have a couple paychecks in, get a letter from your employer that says you'll be working there for X months, at the current rate and amount of hours you're at now. take the letter and 2 paystubs to your bank, and get an appointment to get a line of credit. Sit down with the guy and show him your paychecks, the letter, and tell him you have some home renovations to do. Tell him you need $10000. Depends how long you've been with the bank, and it depends on how many credit card (and other bill) payments you've missed in the last few years, but you should be able to do it. Besides, like you said, the car debt isn't even in your name! BONUS! Tell them any assets you have (being slightly optimistic) such as your $3000 camera, $2000 computer, and so on. Tell them you've got a steady job (see the letter?!) And tell them you want to pay prime plus 1.5%. Definitely no more than prime plus 2%. That'll work out to around 8 or 9% interest. Now you've got $10000 in cold hard cash. Pay off your HIGHEST credit card debt. Then the next highest, and so on, until you only have one credit card. Pay off as much as you can with the remaining money, and then cut up the rest of your credit cards and call the companies to tell them to cancel them (don't want loose ends on your credit report). This is going to save you hundreds a month.
- Refinancing your student loan isn't going to be a good idea. Student loans are generally quite low interest rates. It depends, is it fixed rate or variable? If it was fixed, what's the %? Anything less than 7% is awesome right now. If it is, just leave it! If not, don't go with variable, because that's pretty high right now too. In most cases, I would just leave it, unless your bank offers you some strangely low rate. Remember, EVERYBODY loves to loan you money. That's how they profit. They're very happy to take over your other debts, and loan you money, because then you're paying THEM the interest.
- Loans are GOOD things. People always think loans are bad. But they aren't. Just high interest loans. If you can get a loan at 5% per year, TAKE IT! Take as much as you can! You can invest that money and make a profit, paying off the interest and keeping some for yourself! That's why those 0% car loans are amazing. I know a guy who bought a $20k truck at 0%, sold it to someone else without ever driving it for $19.5k, and now he had a huge pile of cash, which only cost him $500 bucks, and 0% interest. He invested it in a stock which made 8% over a year - $1500 in interest! That's one grand free money. Imagine if you could do that every week? You'd never have to work.
- Before you go applying for more loans and consolidations and refiances, remember that each time you do, you're hurting your credit history a little. Every time someone checks your credit history, it "ping"s your score, which adds a little bit of warning. Do it enough, and you can ruin yourself. Nobody told you that, right? Well, now I did. Apply for things sparcely. Those "free" credit cards at big name electronic or department stores? They have high interest PLUS they ping your credit score when you apply. Totally not worth it.
- Develop a WRITTEN financial plan. Having it in your head isn't good enough. And stick to it. You know how your best intentions never seem to work out, don't you? You've had a plan to get outta debt four or five times since I've known you.
Anyway, I've ranted about it before... I'm sorry. I just can't help it, because people could really be doing a lot better for themselves, if they only knew these things! I'm no expert but I know a little, and hopefully someone's gonna learn something from me one of these days! Maybe even you, Chris!
EDIT: This is a sweet thread title. But I wonder, are we going overboard with the holier-than-though thing?
That being said, went boozing, only kind of... mostly just met up with a good buddy I haven't talked to in a solid month or so for a beer or two at a favored establishment, which two-for-ones don't need to be before six.. ten to midnight every night at The Ol' Mexico, every beer on the menu, and even some things that are top-shelf elsewhere...
But yeah, it was a responsible boozing night, followed by a decent conversation which inadvertantly wore out the car battery, which followed with some wonderful misadventures, and now I go to try to sleep, because I should be getting up in four hours or so for work...
Yay for nights going way later than planned.
Oh, and in case you didn't catch it, dibs on the couch. That's dibs twice.

Dibs on the.... hey wait, whatever happened to the western North America idea? Arizona's lovely in the dead of winter, I hear!
Wow, sammy just made me chocolate chip cookies. These were the good kind, with real butter, brown sugar, white flour... all the stuff you're NOT supposed to eat. And a lot of warm gooey chocolate chips. Perfectly round, nicely browned. Ate 5 right out of the oven, and 2 glasses of cold milk. I'm about ready for a nap.

Daron, I don't see how you got that shot off without her knowing her chest was in the pic. She's a naughty girl. And her drawing kinda sucked imo.

It is 11:30am here and I am bored. I guess I'll keep playing Heavenly Sword and WarHawk on ps3 to pass the time. I don't seem to get enjoyment out of much anything anymore.

Daron, I do have a financial plan. Pay off $3000 in five months. I've got it written on a sticky note somewhere around here too. If I do that then maybe I'll reward myself with a new lens for my Camera. Been looking at this for a while. Okay....I'm not realy that bad..but it would be a great lens.

I think we might be pushing the elite thing a little much. Not so much the title, which I think is a good title, but the opening line "We're better than you, but we don't mind letting you view our greatness". Course I don't venture much in other clans....ever....but it does affect our standings with them, specialy in voting and stuff like that. No need for the half-joke of a reputation to become what we are.

Seriously, can you guys imagine the hell of a throwdown we would have if(when) we all meet irl? Worlds would collide! Cosmic shreads of flesh, bone, cards and abusive substances would go flying all over the place. New bonds would be made and friendships would be strenghtened. The Clan would no longer be this virtual reality of us knowing one another, it would be real, it would be consimated. It would be CALLED "the gathering"..
I guess after all these years things have come to a head. I think if we all seriously sit down and hash out the place, date and time - and give everyone plenty of time to save $ - we can make this happen.
Below is what and who we are:
Welcome to the Called Clan Thread. We're better than you, but we don't mind letting you view our greatness. We don't have a friends policy, so no you can't become one. However, you may post on the thread as long as you have something relevant to say and don't monopolize the conversation.

It turns out teachers have been complaining about my work ethic
I updated my age here (32... ooold). And I agree with talking about Travis' whereabouts (that little shmuck!) and the fact that we really should have a meet. Even if it's just 3 or 4 of us. I mean come on. Are we not friends?
* rancored_elf isn't sure he wants that answered *
So basically only when you're in a roadside cafe or toilet, and when you're walking down the street checking out girls' asses? Talk about narrow!
* rancored_elf has never heard of Young Ones... but it sounds good *
* rancored_elf waves at MajoraX *
Hey dude!
Cool, huh?
.
eds - I am all for this meet. Come to my house, we can go swimming
Sadly, I looked at that picture four times before I noticed that it had boobage in it. The sketch itself was amazing, though.
Official Deschanel Stalker of The Called
Cheers,
Daggertooth

++ did I mention it's Australia? And how I still have to smuggle one of the large red kangaroos in a veil as my bride from Kyrgyzstan, so I can train it to wear boxing gloves, and keep it as a pet?
Then there's the whole part about fiscal viability, but that's kind of a drag regardless of where it's located for me, so I'm siding with Australia until things become more realisitic, then I'm still siding with Australia, because I need to kidnap a kangaroo.
When you cross my mind you'd best look both ways.
But I wonder, are we going overboard with the holier-than-though thing?
.
When you cross my mind you'd best look both ways.
There is a second couch, isn't there?

Wow, sammy just made me chocolate chip cookies. These were the good kind, with real butter, brown sugar, white flour... all the stuff you're NOT supposed to eat. Daron, I don't see how you got that shot off without her knowing her chest was in the pic. She's a naughty girl. And her drawing kinda sucked imo.
I don't think we are being to forward with the "we are better then you" talk. Because we are.. If I had made the thread I would have had it entitled "Here at the [CALLED] we are better than you, and we know it."
It is 11:30am here and I am bored. I guess I'll keep playing Heavenly Sword and WarHawk on ps3 to pass the time. I don't seem to get enjoyment out of much anything anymore.
