Kudos to Mr. Stuff for the adorable drummer avvy.
Kudos to Sephiroth Owa for the random banner. Tell me, ARE there similarities?
You see, part of what makes playing Magic so special is figuring out the good R&D decisions from the bad ones. If they were all good, it would take away an important element of the game: complaining about Magic on the Internet. - Mark Rosewater
well, as is usual for me, Im planning for the big Columbus Legacy tourney, as Mr. Cyanide himself knows, Im packing an explosive, weird, messed up deck. If anyone in the NYC area wants to help playtest, I'd be more than happy to travel, when I have time. Please let me know. Unfortunately, most of the NYC Legacy metagame are netdecks...seriously, WTF?! I dont care if your Goblins deck won the past PTQ for Legacy in the States. Legacy's so wide open still, that you should be able to build SOMETHING creative. and no, taking out a Goblin Matron for a Patron of the Akki is NOT creative enough, sorry. Want creative? ask me about the Elf deck...or ask me about that nice fun deck known as Prison-Break...thank you for being creative.
I don't live in the US, but I suppose if you'd allow it, I could be a tentative member of this clan, until you find the sixth member.

This is actually a subject I feel very strongly about, but the oppisite way. I belive that in a tourniment setting, creativity should take a backseat to winning. Period, end of story. In a casual setting, go ahead and be creative, but for a tourniment, if a netdeck is honestly the best deck to take, then it's the deck you should take.
I should find some local legacy tourniments, as I'd like to get into the format.

i'm going to take the middle ground here.
the problem with all-casual decking is that success is increasingly based more on luck of the draw, both in terms of individual matchups and within individual games, than in actual gameplaying skill. it becomes completely random. granted, the better players will still do well, but, eventually, people will netdeck the better players' decks anyway, and the all-casual way will evaporate.
the problem with all-netdecking is that there is so little variance between deck types that tournaments get real boring, real fast. i remember going to a GP during the summer of affinity, and every deck i played against was either an affinity variant or an anti-affinity deck. it was BOOOORING as hell.
i really like where type 2 is at now, for example. there are a few strong decks, but nothing so strong that rogue strategies are unable to succeed. it is an exciting format, where you know you will see U/B teferi, U/R dragonstorm, and G/x aggro, but those decks can be beaten by virtually anything... and "anything" is out there, and capable of winning.

GoC, that is a well based metagame. I just dont like it when EVERY tournament has 95% of the field based with the top 2-3 decks in the format that people got on the internet...seriously, GoC...you know me as a metagame crasher...call me Ford Prefect of Magic, and Im about to take a few people on the intergalactic hitchhiking journey known as anti-netdecking...as far as Columbus goes, May 19-20th, feeding PT Valencia...May 18th, is a last chance qualifier, I think, win that and a 3-round bye is yours...but legacy's a fun format...GoC, you should do well in it...
@GoC. Cubus might have missed me...at least i hope so
But yes, id have no idea about new york adresses.
Good luck with your new clan though
apparently, he did... get that fixed!
you have no idea about new york addresses, i have no idea about mafia games - so it seems we're about even! i'll be sure to friend [!vote nolynch] anyway

yeah i am totally feeling the type 2 format right now. you definitely crash the metagame!!! * god of cyanide thinks back to our team constructed decks... yeah... i just wish i'd had more time to practice with ghost dad
as i mentioned to you earlier, RWT2S plays legacy, too, so maybe we'll all have to get together once for a legacyfest!
on a random side note, i just downloaded the new nine inch nails single, "survivalism," and it's pretty solid. far more aggro than his last two efforts, to be sure. sorta between "the downward spiral" and "the fragile" ... which, to me, is a great sign, as those are my two favorite NIN albums.

Ghost Dad? Without Kamigawa? Is it any good? I mean, it has lost Umezawa's Jitte, Promise of Bunrei, Hand of Cruelty, pretty central cards in the deck. I played it at Norwegian nationals to a 3-3 record, but that was while Kamigawa block was legal. I haven't seen a single Ghost Dad after Time Spiral became legal. Do you have a decklist?

Ever since I was a kid, I dreamt about visiting New York. DOn't know why, but TMNT, the NES Yo! Noid game and the Ghostbusters may have had something to do with it.
That's to say, I'd like to be a friend if you guys don't mind.

i'm cool with that, welcome to the friends of the Dark Knights!
Aha, yes, I kind of expected that answer. It was a really cool deck, but I think I made a very bad sideboard for nationals, which I think cost me some matches. I don't remember the exact cards, but for example I played Darkblasts instead of Last Gasp... I found that the Gasps were way better, especially in the mirror match. I lost just that mirror match at nationals because of it. And an absolutely horrible dredge, 3 Promises of Bunrei! And I had Husk in play! It was just unbelievable misfortune. But heh, I'm still alive.
wow I feel like such a tard typing that. So I still think that we should find a way to kick all yugioh players out of neutral grounds, or atleast limit there space. We should make the drafting table in the corner, their entire area.
I was in the city yesterday. The E train stopped for like 10 minutes, pretty dumb. I was also at a gamestop in my neighborhood, and these guys were playing something that looked liked versus, but its some hybrid between magic and versus, it was pretty cool, im not sure what its called, but I know upper deck puts it out. Im going to put this link in my signature, and take out my trading thread, because I dont want to do it anymore. Wuts everyones weekend plans?
Oh @Legacy
Awhile ago when I would og to tournaments I would fix up some crazy concoction of a deck and do either really good or really bad. Right now I am playing white weenie, not angel stompy. Its a known archetype, but it isn;'t a netdeck. When cyanide puts up my bio, all of my favorite decks are things my friend and I made. They are all pretty good, even though only 1 of them is still in complete form(even though it has a bunch of proxies) and thats lucky charms. The Toshi Reanimator deck used the forbidden orchard and night of souls betrayal with toshi to replay spells, and we used a reanimator theme so it would get beats and win. It didn't have like spirit ofthe night or akroma, but beat with like Scion of Darkness, and Kokusho. The Braids deck was okay, nothing really special only because it was too slow. But I did manage to get 2 goblin decks into locks where they could play anything in the same day(it was the best feeling ever)

the deck was a lot of fun to play, indeed, once i got it right, which i didn't exactly at the time of the tourney. but, yeah, darkblast <<< last gasp, not the least problem of which is dredging sucks when you don't want your good cards in the graveyard...

well, if you see a really large black dude playing yu-gi-oh, that might be one of my peeps. might not want to mess with him, either...
the game may have been "the spoils"... i played a game of it a few weeks ago, it's quite fun, and some of the cards are pee-your-pants funny.
i was going to suggest putting our link in your sig, so, like, do it, and stuff
this weekend? well, i have work most of saturday daytime, probably see my girlfriend saturday night and some of sunday. is something good/magic oriented going on, perhaps?
Oh @Legacy

your bio is up there, so all can see. post some decklists, let's talk NYC tech, kids
toshi reanimator sounds like fun, though. definitely have to check it out sometime. i'll have to think of some legacy-type homebrew to throw out there...

Yeah the game might of been called The Spoils. Some guy played a card called Chasing-a-me and I had a laugh. If I can remember the deck or anything close to it I will put up a skeleton. It was a really fun deck to play because no one knew what do against it. My only loss was vs stasis and that got first place, and if I drew a land I would of beat him(It wasn't mana screw, it was not getting the land when I needed it screw) I sent a PM to Orion about the place where I play legacy as well as invited him into my group.
Hey is anyone here good with photoshop because if there are any more contests with photoshop, I am of absolutely of no use. Well hopefully no more though.
I think Lord Moo will join, but currently his internet is being stupid and is not translating an IP into a website, he's trying to figure out what to do. But we do need more people, 5 people isn't alot, and I know there has to be more, I mean I can name 3 people on this board that go to RIT, I think alot of people live out on the island.
I take it I am the only non-yankee fan here, correct?
oh well.
As far as Columbus goes - there is one big singular observation to be made: 60% of the US population lives within "driving distance" to Columbus, OH (expect turnout to be somehwere in the neighborhood of 400-500 participants); how many of them own or have access to computers (specifically the intar-web) ... ? long-story short, be ready for 85% of all opponents to sport "net-decks". Of the balance, expect 10% to play either rogue decks, met-breaker decks built by a "premium" website's resident ex-pro, and 5% to play complete piles of junk. Just my $.02
EDIT: I am rather proficient with an older version of Fireworks for anyone's graphical needs, as time allows.
Next time you post popular opinions, please word them in such a way that they're not infractable. Someone may be widely thought to be the dullest tool in the shed, but you can't publicly call him that, which as a mod I can neither confirm nor deny that I fervently believe he's a tool.

on a random side note, i just downloaded the new nine inch nails single, "survivalism," and it's pretty solid. far more aggro than his last two efforts, to be sure. sorta between "the downward spiral" and "the fragile" ... which, to me, is a great sign, as those are my two favorite NIN albums.

Of course, if you really want to get on my good side, you could have your clan send a rep to Clan Mafia.
wow I feel like such a tard typing that.
But I did manage to get 2 goblin decks into locks where they could play anything in the same day(it was the best feeling ever)

the deck was a lot of fun to play, indeed, once i got it right, which i didn't exactly at the time of the tourney. but, yeah, darkblast <<< last gasp, not the least problem of which is dredging sucks when you don't want your good cards in the graveyard...
of course, you're friended, arim. seems like most of [499] has dropped in already (where's jeff?
as far as clan mafia... i think RWT2S is the only guy here who does mafia at all, so if he wants to do it, i guess we'll jump in.
well, if you see a really large black dude playing yu-gi-oh, that might be one of my peeps. might not want to mess with him, either...
the game may have been "the spoils"... i played a game of it a few weeks ago, it's quite fun, and some of the cards are pee-your-pants funny.
i was going to suggest putting our link in your sig, so, like, do it, and stuff
this weekend? well, i have work most of saturday daytime, probably see my girlfriend saturday night and some of sunday. is something good/magic oriented going on, perhaps?
your bio is up there, so all can see. post some decklists, let's talk NYC tech, kids
toshi reanimator sounds like fun, though. definitely have to check it out sometime. i'll have to think of some legacy-type homebrew to throw out there...

Hey is anyone here good with photoshop because if there are any more contests with photoshop, I am of absolutely of no use. Well hopefully no more though.
I think Lord Moo will join, but currently his internet is being stupid and is not translating an IP into a website, he's trying to figure out what to do. But we do need more people, 5 people isn't alot, and I know there has to be more, I mean I can name 3 people on this board that go to RIT, I think alot of people live out on the island.

EDH - Riku, Xiahou, Konda, Azusa
