I sign under this statement. Love in the Time of Cholera remains my favorite book ever, rivalled only by The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder. 100 Years of Solitude is probably in the top 10.
I have to say though that one of the writers that I absolutely can't stand is also Latin American - heck, he's Brazilian - and his name is Paulo Coelho.
* RickCorgan assumes there may be a few admirers around and hids.
Yay for the "new" thread, by the way.
Ditto on Paulo Coelho. I read "The Alchemist" for a school assignment... it was one of the worst books I've ever read, rivalled only by the Outsiders. Marquez is pretty good, though not among my favorite authors. However, it's good to know a Colombian is sticking out for our country like he is.:D
"All these people having fun are playing for a gigantic 40000$ award, while I'm here sweating, players asking me stupid layer questions we all hate, and I'm thirsty.
OMG LYK U TOTALLY NEW WHAT I NEEDZORZ!! R U LYK PSICHIC OR SUMTHIN OMG [/endchannelstupid]
Sorry, I had to go there. Oh, and I actually like Grozoth. I use them in my Hypergenesis deck (they go and fetch up my singleton Myojin of Life's Web). <_<
Megrim is good. The issue I've found really is once they run out of cards... you sorta run into issues. Sure, they are beatable, but they remain nonetheless. Dreams is pretty much a guaranteed pain.
If forced to choose, I'd choose Dreams over Megrim. Why? It's more fun to build around. <_< U/B Dreams is just frikkin hilarious. Howling Mine+Anvil of Bogardan+Dreams+Megrim=:crying: opponent.
@Joyd: that's amazing. If I understood it better, it'd probably seem really boring and stuff, but as it is, I think that's the coolest thing I've seen all day.
Megrim is more fun to build around because it rewards you for raping your opponents resources. To keep Megrim active, play bounce. BBB is also alot harder to play in a 2 color deck.

Hey, Coehlo isn't HORRIBLE. I actually enjoyed the Alchemist, though his other books tend to be just awful. There are far worse authors you know (I would say my least favorite author right now, but I'd get lynched, so I won't).

That's fun, sure, but I like ****ing up the other guys deck, and not their field. The field is FAR too easy to screw with. The deck is much more entertaining, IMO. To each their own I say!
The problem with making them draw so many cards is you end up helping them. It is the same reason why milling from library to grave is a bad idea (only moreso). Unless you can nail the whole library at once, you really are doing nothing productive.
I never liked milling because it always feels like you're playing a different game than the other person. I admit to having some fun with a Dampen Thought deck built out of Kamigawa block draft leftovers, but it wasn't one of my favorites by any stretch.
You need to control the board or your opponent will beat you.
I would agree. What you are missing is that, unlike Megrim, which takes your whole damn deck, Underworld Dreams can just be 2 slots (Dreams+something that draws, like the ever awesome Anvil of Bogardan). This leaves a LOT of space for board control (like Damnation, or Infest, or Night of Soul's Betrayal, a personal favorite :)). Hell, my "mill" deck is B/G, with Dreams, Grindstone (for lulz), Anvil of Bogardan, and Rites of Flourishing. The idea isn't to deny them anything. I hate playing decks that never let you do anything, it's not fun for the other guy, and I hate that. We play for fun, not to punish the other guy. It's why I don't play pure Mono-Blue Control decks these days, since running 20 counterspells just isn't fun (either to play with or against). Rather, I play decks that can capitalize on giving everyone cards and resources (like my Mono-Green Control deck that runs 4 Magus of the Vineyard... AND 4 Eladamri's Vineyard!).
I have a feeling that we are butting heads over playstyle, and not so much over the actual cards themselves. Besides, they aren't really that similar. They do the same thing, but how they do it and how they work is totally different. If we want to get into that argument, maybe move it somewhere else (like MSN or something) so that we don't bother others?
if you really want a fun idea with megrim for a while i t8ed alot of std vanguard events using magus of hte jar and megrim with a dstorm skeleton. try it out, its fun
Yeah, the Alchemist was recommended to me by a friend, and he raved about it, so I read it, and it was okaaaaay. I didn't get it too much.. I haven't read any of his other books though...
My least favorite author.... I'm not sure about that one.. a book has to be really bad to get me to not read it... Choke was pretty disgusting though, I couldn't stand it so I stopped reading it.. and that's weird for me.. most times I will finish a book I start.
EDIT: OMG .. the Outsiders was an incredible book! I forgot who said it, but damn.. that's NOT a bad book...
Megrim was a fun enough card back in the day for me but these days i won't use it. Most famous use of it for me was when I had this demi-mill deck. Completely based around Laquatus's Creativity making the opponent draw then discard with a Megrim out. Add in things like Cephalid Broker, Cephalid Looter, and Cephalid Coliseum it was a WEIRD outside the box idea.
I got HP7 the day it was released and finished it within two days.
It was my favourite of the series.
Outsiders was pretty bad, IMO. Really lame.
I enjoyed To Kill A Mockingbird more, in our reading topics for English. And "The Crucible" is the best so far we've read.
I second that. Millstone is freaking awesome. That reminds me of my good old uw mill deck that i used at the begining of my legacy career which seems many ages ago. I actually won a 30 player legacy tournament with it too luckily pithing needle didnt exist back then so Circle of protection: red was just insane versus goblins back then. Not to mention this was right before they got aether vial so instead of aether vial they used goblin bidding instead which id rather choose any goblin to play that over aether vial anyday. Phew just got back from an 8 hour shift thank goodness i have tommorrow off maybe ill finish dq7 while i am at it maybe.
See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses*

So yeah, new thread again. I don't like the title in the least, but whatever.
@The Alchemist: Danica, you obviously weren't reading the same book I did. That's a wondrous piece of literature that's truly the most life-affirming thing to come around in a long time. I loved it and I'm going to re-read it soon.
My least favorite author is a tie between Robert Jordan and R.A. Salvatore. They're both mind-numbingly boring authors with no idea when to let the characters speak for themselves.
I'm probably brusque right now, but it's no big thing. I'm incredibly bitter about some other things going on, both in clans I'm a member of and in places like the Inn, so it's coloring my reactions to things on the site. Also, Persona 3 got pushed back to August 15th and it pisses me off. Boo.

This is about how I felt about it (maybe a little less passionate though). It was a great book, for sure. The rest of Coehlo's work has been... less impressive in my eyes though.
Salvatore is.... not a good author, but he's better than Ed Greenwood... *shudders*

What's bothering you about the site atm? Anything we can assist you in?
Oh, and does anyone at all play PSP here, or is it just me? If anyone does, do they play Wipeout? I have a question about it. <_<

Well, for one thing I have...issues with a couple of members. It isn't anything I want to bring up, really, but it certainly influences where and how often I post these days.
The Inn is bothering me for a couple of reasons. As I mentioned in the last thread, there's a pretty big problem with people joining campaigns and then just losing interest and dropping them. And like I said, this wouldn't be much of a problem for me if my players would actually let me know that they weren't interested in playing anymore. This never happens, though. What I'm left with is deadening threads where one or two people need to post to get things moving and those people never post, which kills the campaign and causes the OTHER players to lose interest as well. It's...vexing.

LOL awesome
I built this deck on MTGO when I first started because it was really cheap
Dreams is a bad card. Megrim is good if you have 4x Memory Jar, 4x Windfall and 4x Tinker. Thats about it.
Megrim is more fun to build around because it rewards you for raping your opponents resources. To keep Megrim active, play bounce. BBB is also alot harder to play in a 2 color deck.

Hand-->Card.... ooookay then.
Milling is amusing to me, but not the stupid Dimir style milling. I like to make them draw 5 cards a turn. (B/G is my favorite milling combo, btw. ;))

The funnest way to destroy someones Library is to remove the important parts from the game. Lobotomy, Eradicate, Extirpate, Cranial Extraction, Jester's Cap, etc.

Recoil, Funeral Charm/Piracy Charm (Good spot removal and insane on an empty hand on the draw step. It wins games on an Isochron Scepter), Blizzard Spectre is both Discard and Bounce as needed. Evacuation is awesome with Megrim, in many ways better than Damnation and Mutilate. Extirpate is sweet with discard effects. Add in some card draw (Megrim friendly stuff like Cephalid Colleseum, Careful Concideration, Compulsive Research) and Echoing Truth (extra bounce and good on stick) with some Duress and you have a fun deck which is sure to get you on more peoples blocked list.
