This week I will be reviewing baseruption which is a deck that placed 4th place at the 2007 German legacy championships with more then 170 players. The reason why i am sharing this deck because I really like the deck and its actually a blast to play. Also if you don't have any other deck to play with in a big legacy tournament I would suggest this deck. I also like the fact that the german legacy metagame is so diverse but you will see all of the top decks played in the tournament like threshold, 43 lands, and landstill.
However before I go further here is the deck list.
This deck is played just like any other fish deck in the format and it also has some strong elements from threshold to make this deck quite a solid deck in the format. Mainly its a aggro-control deck with a late game.
Matchup Analysis
UGW Threshold: Id say this matchup is about even preboard of course whom ever has the faster start will probably win the match and this can go either way. The removal spell that you need to worry about mostly is swords to plowshares and possibly engineered explosives as well. You don't really have much to answer their mongooses though but if you keep them off of having a goyf and mystic enforcer in play then you should be fine. Postboard gets better though because you have more answers for their goyfs, werebears, sometimes even quiriion dryads via spell snares and threads of disloyalty.
UGR Threshold: This matchup can be tougher since they run more creature removal in the form of lightning bolts and fire/ices and sometimes even magma jets. Your best bet is to counter and remove or control their threats(vedalken shackles) and play your threats and also counterbalance + top will help alot as well. Postboard once again gets much better for you since you have more versatile answers for their threats.
Cephalid breakfast: I'd say the matchup can be in your favor depending on how much disruption you get from stopping their milling reanimation combo via en-cors, cephalid illusionist, and dread return. Just watchout for their tarmogoyfs though. Postboard gets much better though since you have extirpate to cut off their reanimation combo which forces them to play a bad version of threshold in some ways. You also have spell snare and threads of disloyalty to take care of their goyfs.
Iggy pop: This matchup can be in your favor or about even as well as long as you draw a meddling mage and have plenty of cheap countermagic backup via force of will and daze. Also the fact that tarmogoyf can be awesome in this matchup since it pushes the iggy player to combo off faster since you have a faster threat clock. Postboard can get better for you having extirpate can help out in this matchup by extirpating their ill gotten-gains otherwise it can still be an alright matchup.
Landstill: This matchup is about even id say since vedalken shackles can help alot in this matchup taking control of their manlands for the reminder of the game is too good to pass up. Postboard gets better though since you have extirpates to rid them of their draw like standstills. Jittes can also swing you games as well in this matchup if they resolve and/or stay in play.
Other Card Choices that can be useful for this deck:
Pithing Needle: Acts as a meddling mage to wasteland in a heavy non-basic hate envinronment. Also this card can nail landstill's manlands and can act as a speed bump against belcher.
Gaddock Teeg: This card will help baseruption's game against almost any combo deck immensely. Also the fact that this card can shutdown some big board sweepers as well in landstill like for instances engineered explosives, damnation and/or wrath of god.
Diabolic Edict: This card can take care of nimble mongoose in threshold and other aggro-control decks that splash green.
engineered explosives: Awesome card against any threshold deck at large and also good in the mirror.
Just popping in to say hi to everyone and a well done for gladys44 for his thesis, feel happy for him getting it approved, besides don't feel so hard done all because it needs minor revision, it was APPROVED was it not???
Thanks LittleDaisy! Well the panelists are kicking my butt during the defense, but when the R&D Department released the results, I was happy to see it was approved with minor revisions rating. But judging from the comment sheet, the revisions will not be so "minor" and I have lots and lots of things to do.
i am sorry your thesis didn't go so well hunter44 but congrats on getting it done and i hope this doesn't impede you to graduate which is the main thing to do is graduate.
Thanks buddy! Im gonna be busier though. Nice LotW deck!
Congratulations to Jun on his thesis being approved with minor revisions!! I just submitted mine this morning and had a test this morning as well, in addition to handing in my essay exam for Black Writers Today
Well congratulations again too Danica! How I wish mine was finished too! After I revise my proposal paper then I can continue my thesis to the next semester then finally graduate college! I hope my Final Oral Defense Next semester would do fine.
I can help with the Legacy Goblins or Legacy 43 land decks... because those are what I play. Oh, and merfolk... because that totally gets played in legacy... by people other than me...
I haven't slept in two days. It is really boring between four and six in the morning.
I could definitely take Dave Attel's job on Insomniac.
Every time I try to start a discussion, it either flops or makes Alacar mad at me. So, in lieu of that, I'll just post random lyrics to songs, and you can guess what they were from if you want.

"I will siiiiiing this victory song..."
If you want to write up a review on legacy goblins and 43 lands go right ahead im not going to stop you your more then welcome to write legacy of the weeks as well.:) I have just been writing up deck reviews about legacy decks in the coffeehouse for about a year now. I also have optimal deck lists for both decks and I generally play just about any deck in legacy. Goblins is going off the legacy radar though but I personally think it still has a good chance to come back maybe not in full force but I think Goblins can still be well represented.
Why would you think that Goblins are losing face? They are still heavily played and extremely powerful.
I did not say goblins was losing face(if you read my last post thoroughly enough) thats what the general legacy community said well on the source of legacy forums anyway. They are heavily played but goblins hasn't reached tier 1 status recently at the last 6 big legacy tournaments it only top 8 once while decks like ugr threshold will remain tier 1 status considering ugr thresh topped 8 at all of those last 6 events.
I'd like to say that my quietness is down to being busy, but considering I spent this afternoon reading the paper in the pub with my flatmate's boyfriend, while she wandered round a bead fair, I think I'd have minimal justification for that claim.
It's a fabulous way to spend a Sunday afternoon, though, particularly when there's rugby on TV to watch as well.
That does sound relaxing. I always feel lazy on Sundays myself.
By the way Tanthalas, I've been trying to catch you on Skype. But it seems like most people who were using it for a while kind of slackened off.
Which isn't strange, I mean I don't use instant messenger clients to often either.

Rough week for the 'House.
I just found out today that my brother and sister-in-law are splitting up after four years of marriage. I'm kinda depressed.
That's sad news, Greg. I hope maybe some good can come out of it eventually, but that still sucks. May they get through, and each of their families. *hugs* It's never easy to see something like that end.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Then I guess it's my job to take Legacy Goblins back.
hehe no offense but Ive heard so many people make those kinda claims before but Ive also seen some good legacy players just do it instead of just talk and ive seen both as well. Besides goblins actually takes a whole lot of skill to play correctly believe it or not like knowning what to do when you play against control, combo, aggro-control. Also knowing when to be aggressive with goblins as well as when not to and also mulliganing decisions can also be tough to choose as well.
*waves to mamelon* How are you mamelon haven't seen you posting in the house for awhile probably been busy with life in general.
Kraj: I'm sorry bro. It is really tough when something that personal happens. On of my uncles is going through his 2nd divorce in like a year, so I know how you feel. Then again, I don't really care about that side of the family, so his divorce really doesn't make a difference to me. Its not that I'm a terrible person, but they aren't the most honest and well, good people.
Hunter: What did I tell you my man? I bet that made your week. And you thought approved was a longshot...
Omna: Way to go! You finally got that entire workload taken care of. Relax, you definitely deserve some time to yourself now. Play some Magic.
On a lighter note, I won the tournament that I entered this Sunday. Good job me.
Fooly, I am really sorry that I didn't play the Dragonstorm list you gave me. I wussed out at the end. I tested it, and I didn't feel confident that I could play it optimally. I played Mono-Black Korlash. It did really well though, just like we talked about. I tuned it to beat Blink and U/R/B Void, of which I saw one. I still stomped almost everybody else out (Dude I lost to Mono-Red Elementals. That was my only loss. How did I lose? HOW?), because believe it or not, Korlash + Loxodon Warhammer is pretty good. Yeah, you heard it here first. Big creature plus equipment that makes it bigger, gives it trample and lifelink is a good combo. Whodathunkit?

Kids are the worst reason to keep a relationship together. They grow up with unhappy parents, well that is the model they have for all of their future relationships. I do not know the particulars of the breakup, but whatever the reason it will be alot healthier for her.
Sorry. I do not mean to rant. Kids are very close to home for me. I just don't want people mad at them because they have a kid. That just makes things worse. That kid needs all the love and reassurance she can get. And she needs as little animossity concerning her parents as possible so that there can be a realistic hope that she can still visit both parents and have a healthy life with them. Placing blame will just drive a wedge.

whoa thats very cool starr lol and thanks.
anyway i made two casual decks last night a mono green aggro deck and a RBU control deck ive just been gold fishing with them and so far they have been okay but they are fun to play. On another note i decided not to sign up for the standard tournament because I don't really have time to play in much tournaments anymore but back in the day I could play magic all of the time and since college classes wasn't too big for me of course i was only an undergrad but I did well though.
Also I am pretty happy that Clemen's Wolff a legacy german player that played with landstill almost top 8 at the legacy german champs saying that my wub control(not a landstill deck) looks pretty good for legacy and my deck has the tools to be good against the legacy format at large. Clemens Wolff also knows about 5 local legacy players around him that are found everywhere in the top 20 of the legacy champs including the top 8. I found that pretty cool because I basically threw the deck together and tested it some against threshold and cephalid breakfast and that was about it could've done alot more testing before I showed him the deck but oh well.
Kraj: Yeah i hope everything goes well for you and your family though and your right you shouldn't be deppressed about it but I still understand your feelings about the situation though. Also I agree with Starr cute little girl.
well i am going to get ready for work in a little while. I will probably be back sometime later tonight but see you all soon though. Have a good day everyone!
Looks cool. No decklist though? Actually chances are I'm just gonna make a URB Jhoira deck next, using Terminates and black fatties in addition to my solid blue lineup.
The problem is, Simic Sky Swallower is SOOO gooood in the deck I'm running right now.. so I'll have to splash him in next to akroma.
Yeah, I haven't been on too much over the last week. Plus, I'm not entirely sure if mine is working properly yet - I've gone through the test call and got back my message, but it still pops up a message saying it can't hear me. Also, I don't know if any of the people I sent requests to have authorised me or not - again, that's probably due to the test call throwing a tantrum at me. Actually, they can probably confirm - Omna, Alacar, I added you guys, anything come through as yet?
Bleh. I'll have to fiddle with it later and see if I can get it working properly. Strangely, my desire to get programs working properly is often diminished after a day of... trying to get programs to work properly. But yeah, I'll be around tonight, though it's probably mid-afternoon for most of you ;).
Tanthalas: Sometimes it tells you it can't hear you, but the best way for you to really know is to chat with someone. I haven't had a chance to talk with you, but I'd love to sometime. Feel free to drop me a line and we can fiddle with your mike.
*Alacar eagerly awaits the release of The Orange Box tomorrow

Aye, that is the rub. Honestly the ideal answer is for the two of them to find a way - whatever thay may be - to learn to be happy. Whether that means scheduling time apart to recharge, or making sacrifices to be more financially stable, or changing parts of the relationship to be more fulfilling, or whatever. Whether either has the will to do so I can't say.

Hi everone I promise Ill catch up when I'm not so swamped...
about the deck...
Mine just uses general bounce like Boomerang, eye of nowhere, regress, and wipe away along with stone rain and seismic spike to just hold them off, and other stuff like spellshift, ignite memories and grapeshot to actually get the combo with eye of the storm and mind's desire going. I actually had the idea lnog before I saw joira, but she makes it eaiser to do. I also run aeon chronicler for draw, because he's ridiculous with jhoira. I suppose you could run brainfreeze instead of grapeshot or something, but I like the creature removal aspect of grapeshot
@Satriani - Thanks! Well as Ive said its still hard..Ive got many revisions to do.
House is empty again? Maybe Ill sleep for now..See ya guys tomorrow!

Love,
Cecilia
Tanthalas: Sometimes it tells you it can't hear you, but the best way for you to really know is to chat with someone. I haven't had a chance to talk with you, but I'd love to sometime. Feel free to drop me a line and we can fiddle with your mike.
