Apparently my cousin's site got two requests for reviews. And so I wrote one, and the other comes tomorrow, to make up for last week. So here's this week's Game of the Week...
Let's talk first person shooters. If you ask about shooters that identify the First Person Shooter genre, there are several answers you might get. Doom, Unreal Tournament, Half Life 2. But no list is complete without the game Halo. Halo was a game that, when it came out, was amazing. It wasn't a highly toted game. It was one of those fads, like Harry Potter or Pokemon, that slipped under the radar for some time. People hadn't figured it out to begin with, and only after a while did it become big. But the game, with its epic fights, its difficulty, and its multiplayer, truly helps define what is a First Person Shooter.
Halo is a massive game. A game that hits every point of what a game should be, what a game should include. So, with my standard rating of games, let's look at the Graphics, Sound, Storyline, Mechanics, and Difficulty.
First, Graphics. This is back with the original Xbox. Now, the graphics weren't bad back then. But the game was one of the first to come out on the system, so note that the graphics don't compare to what we expect on the current generation. You will notice shortcuts in the level design, such as cut and paste ground and trees. You might notice lines where the cut and pasted ground patches meet. You'll probably see the pixels of things without going too close, and some things are just static. But what you'll also notice is that the character models of the figures, ally and enemy alike, are excellent. You'll notice that enemies, while they do look alike, will look sufficiently different from each other to not be identical. They'll move differently, for one thing. This is quite nice, to relieve you from boredom. There's also enough enemy types so that things feel different and new all the time. The locations you will be fighting in vary plenty, not being the cookie-cutter places you often see in these games. While several location types repeat, you should have enough variation so that you have to change tactics quite often. The guns you get look unique, especially the Covenant weapons, and the Master Chief himself is unique as well. Compared to current titles, it isn't very impressive, but they were good in the day. 6/10 for graphics.
Halo has some very nice sound done on it, from special effects, music, and voice. The entire game has voice overs. There's no text you have to bother with, and the voices are done very well. The Master Chief, essentially you, sounds sufficiently awesome. He's got the voice of an action star, and that goes with the body he's given. Cortana, your 'advisor', sounds intelligent and feminine enough to match her voluptuous apperance. The music sounds orchestrated and fits the locations. In particular is the 'battle music', which any Halo fan will fast come to recognize, which always means you'll be doing something very cool, or fighting a rather big battle. The music always fits the area, and there are some very good tracks to be heard. The sound effects, in which I include enemy voices, are good. You can hear the grunts, one of the enemies, actually speak in the game when they're not being shot, and they'll shout and squeal when they are. The guns sound excellent, especially the power you hear behind the sniper rifle. The vehicles sound great, too. All in all, I give the sound about a 7/10.
Next is Gameplay. This is where Halo really picks up the pace. The game is easily ten to fifteen hours long on easy difficulties. It could take longer if you take your time, and it will definitely take longer if you're on a harder difficulty. You have plenty of gameplay to enjoy. And because of a level select system, you can enjoy any level of your choosing repeatedly. Speaking of difficulty, Halo has four. Easy, which is for beginners, through Legendary, which is a difficulty so hard that you're really going to want someone to play co-op with you in order to get rid of the host of enemies waiting to take you down. Did someone say Co-op? That's right. The game has a 100% cooperative storyline. Any level you can play alone, you can play with a friend. Which is really nice. The game also features multiplayer, up to 16 players if you link multiple game systems, with several game types for you to play.
But you want the meat and bones don't you? How about this: In Halo, you get to enjoy two different types of pistols, as well as two different types of machine guns, a sniper rifle, and a rocket launcher, among others. This was one of the first games where you only can hold two different guns, but can switch between them at any time. You get two different grenades. The standard one, which just bounces and explodes, and the Covenant grenade, which will stick to enemies so they can run into a group of their allies and destroy them, too. You get four different vehicles, including a Tank and an air vehicle. You have shields over your regular life, shields that regenerate, so that you can fight and not have to worry too fast. You also have 'overshields', which give you more defense, and 'invisibility' for sneaking amongst the levels and meleeing your opponents. Yes, melee. There are also computer characters which will fight alongside you, which is always fun. Did I mention there was also a sequel? There's enough gameplay involved, enough things in this game which are, while not unique now, are fun to do and were making their debut in Halo. Gameplay gets a 9/10.
I saved storyline for now because, unlike many first person shooters, Halo actually has a storyline. And the storyline is rather in-depth, leaving much to be learned and discovered over your hours of playing. The basics are that a human ship is attacked while near some sort of ring in space. You, as the Master Chief, are awakened from deep sleep to fight off the attack. Unfortunately, you fail. And as you load into the life boats, the captain tries to pilot the ship down to the ring, the only real place to land anywhere nearby. On the ring, you find it's actually some sort of planet. And as you explore, saving survivors and fighting the Covenant, a race that hates humanity and tries to destroy it everywhere it goes, as they try to destroy you. And, as you do, you learn what the ring really is. It's a story that, while it can stand alone, gets even better when you play the second game. For storyline, for a First Person Shooter, Halo really goes the extra mile, giving you something you can feel anxious about learning, wanting to know what happens next, and then satisfied when it ends. 8/10.
Last is difficulty. The game is hard to rate, seeing as it actually has difficulty levels. I'm going to rate it on Legendary, that being the hardest level, and what most people would aspire to. In Legendary, enemies are plentiful, they are accurate, they swarm you and attack intelligently. They're hard to take down, and they take you down fast. Your shield wont' last long, and neither will your health. You'll need to do guerilla tactics to survive. While not as hard as the sequel, Legendary is a hard difficulty that will take you plenty of time. You will need to get used to dying. In single player, Legendary is an insane difficulty, as the checkpoints in the game are fairly spaced out, and you will be annoyed having to do a single section many times. Luckily, when playing in co-op mode, you'll be able to respawn at your ally's location as long as they aren't currently in battle or currently in a moving vehicle. That helps. But not much. You'll still grit your teeth, and you will still sweat and want to break your controller each time you screw up. But its incredibly satisfying to win. Difficulty gets a 9/10.
Overall, the game has a 9/10 from me. The game has aged quite well, and is still fun to play. While some of the weapons are overpowered, especially in multiplayer, the game still feels fair. The graphics don't seem too bad as compared to current generation games, and the music is always good. The storyline is fantastic, all the better that it has a sequel already out and what is thought to be the final of a trilogy coming soon that will answer all the questions. There are easter eggs to find, and plenty of Covenant to kill. Halo is a quintessential First Person Shooter, and one of the best games of the last decade.
Quite the in depth review! What site will it be appearing on?
@Mr.Stuff - Heh; sounds cool, Chobits has been a bit iffy with holding my attention at times but its managed to keep me watching so far... Have fun with that Anime Marathon!

Nice review nai, i loved the writing. i would have stop reading it half way through but it was well thought out and unlike most reviews, actually made sense to me.

MY list would have to be
1. spirited away
2. howl's moving castle
3. My neighbor totoro
4. princess mononoke
5. Castle in the sky
Anyways, I'm alive, in case any of you were wondering. Busy day today. Busier day tomorrow. I've gotta be a pirate for three 4-year-olds on a treasure hunt for my nephew's birthday party.. oh well..
And good news: I'm going to see Heather on Sunday! I'll be sure to fill everyone in on what happens..
I should be more excited.. but I'm not right now. I've got a lot on my plate and on my mind at the moment.. and I'm in need of more DVD-Rs. Figures.
Oh, and Nai, if you want storyline in a FPS, look no further than the Half-Life series. It's dripping with plot. Not to mention Counter-Strike.

2. Whisper of the Heart
3. Only Yesterday
4. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
5. Kiki's Delivery Service
Mononoke for obv. reasons. Whisper of the Heart is a beautiful and uplifting film. Only Yesterday is beautiful, sad, funny. Nausicaa has a great underlying theme and excellent storyline. Kiki's is just really wonderful, cute, really whimsical.
Have you heard of Makoto Shinkai? He does some really amazing films, like "Voices of a Distant Star" and "The Place Promised In Our Early Days". Check him out.
'eds; HL and HL2 are much much better than lame Halo. I mean, CS is overplayed, and HL kinda is, but not to the extent that Halo is.
when it comes to FPS ive always had a preference for the quake franchise tbh, nothing screams pwnage like using the bfk-10k. Unreal series also falls under thsi category. i find CS, HL and halo to be somewhat overrrated
Hello everyone its time for legacy of the week again!
This weeks legacy deck will be on Patriot Control or me and my team like to call it American Funkbrew Slaughter.
History of the deck: This deck started out as a casual deck called Patriot angels made by casual master of magic himself alacar. He also made a Standard version of Patriot Angels and got 2nd place here at the standard MTGS championships which is quite a feet and well respected here in the coffeehouse and i respect the performance by alacar pretty impressive as well. Then a couple of months later it interested me to make a legacy version of his patriot deck. At first it was just slammed together into one control deck and I surprisingly beat a pretty good Legacy player that plays with threshold since its the most consistent deck out of all of the legacy decks all of the time in tournaments 3 games straight so i was like wow I should keep on testing this deck and see what i come up with. In fact it turns out to be one of the best legacy decks i have ever worked on. The list is totally different from good alacar's patriot angel deck but it sure playtests pretty well in legacy and the original philosophy of his deck is still in this one.
Anyhow here is the list i been testing for a 3-4 days now.
So there you have it a more defined uwr control deck for the current Legacy metagame. Now to discuss some pretty important matchups in the metagame.
Threshold Matchup: I'd say this matchup is favorable. You got Engineered explosives and wraths to kill their nimble mongooses and anything else they have in play like tarmogoyfs and werebears. You have swords to plowshares and wraths for their mystical enforcers or fledgling Dragons. Also rakavolver and exalted angel helps to win these matches by a large margin. Jotun grunts can also play a big role in postboard games as well.
Goblin Matchup: I'd say this matchup is favorable even preboard. You got pyroclasm and wrath of god to clear the board when needed. Exalted angels and rakavolver become an unstoppable force mid to late game. Also stifles can counter ringleader's triggered abilities which can often win games on its own. Postboard gets better for you because of the addition of 2 more pyroclasms.
Cret Belcher: If you do not have force of will in your opening hand then you probably will have a slim chance to stop this deck from going off on turn 1 or 2 especailly if they combo off and win with goblin charbelcher. You can usually fix the empty of the warrens problems via engineered explosives, stifles, and pyroclasms. However postboard id say its a favorable matchup for you since you have pithing needles to stop belcher and disenchants since normally they have to wait a turn to activate a belcher but they can still go off on turn 1 or 2 though. Stifles will also come in handy against belcher and also empty of the warrens. Meddling mage provides a clock and a way to stop the combo in its tracks.
The epic storm combo: This deck wins with either empty of the warrens or tendrils of agony. I'd say this deck can still pack a wallop though but in my opinion its less consistent then CRET belcher in my opinion. Anyway i'd say this matchup is slightly favorable for you preboard but postboard you have mages, pyroclasms and EEs to take care of their storm goblin tokens and mages and stifles to stop their tendril storm combo.
Black Suicide Variants: Id say this matchup is about even or more favorable for black suicide but red can play a pretty important role in this matchup. You also have engineered explosives to strike down their nantuko shades, phyxerian negators, hypnotic specters, and other 2cc creatures. Just hopefully they don't get a strong disrupting hand because that could make quick work of any blue control deck rather. I often found your draw can be the most important spells in this deck against black sui variant especially sensei's divining tops since you can forever use its card draw utility.
Survival: This matchup is probably more in favor of them but that probably depends on the survival build and the skill of the player. However your postboard will give you a good edge in this matchup because of disenchant, force of will, meddling mages, and pithing needles.
Landstill: This will probably be your worst matchup by far since its alot more of a consistent control powerhouse then patriot control is however if your a better control player then you probably have a chance to win. Postboard seems to bring some promises with pithing needles especially to counteract their mishra's factories, nantuko monasteries and more. Just make sure to keep them off of the crucible + wasteland lock because that can really hurt if your not careful about balancing your mana despite of this deck playing with more then 5 basic lands. Fact or fiction can also play a big role here like any other matchup but they definetly will help in this matchup. Also if you see a standstill in play i would break it as soon as possible but hopefully you will be able to do something about their standstills.
Loam aggro: I'd say you have a favorable matchup in this one as well but again it probably depends on the build and the skill of the player. You have engineered explosives to take care of their 1 or 2cc creatures. Also wrath of god can be pretty helpful here as well not to mention rakavolver and exalted angel of course. I would try to get as many basic lands as possible though because the loam + wasteland lock isnt pretty when you fetch for non-basic lands.
Well thats it for this weeks legacy of the week. Stay tuned until next time for another legacy of the week.
Morning everyone. I just woke up after a rousing night of FNM. We did a 5-round swiss draft (32 people!) and eventually yours truly came out on top, going 5-0 and sweeping through the top 8, netting myself an entire box of whatever set I wanted, printed after 2001, so no box of Saga/Legacy/Destiny/Alliances/etc. for me =/. I chose Xth and got some nice cards. A Wrath and A Troll and A Needle, and a few painlands. It was a pretty decent box overall. I'll post my deck a bit later.
@Stuff: That AotW just doesn't seem to do it for me. Watched the first 2-3 eps. and just really couldn't get into it.
@Nai: Halo. There isn't really much to say about Halo. Just that it is overhyped and overplayed. People don't even remember its story, just the fact that 'ZOMG its Halo!' I really hate that game so much.
Mine are;
1. Princess Mononoke
Nitpick: Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday are not really Miyazaki films. They are both Studio Ghibli films, though, which is his animation studio. His co-founding partner in crime, Isao Takahata, is the one responsible for Only Yesterday.
Makoto Shinkai is amazing just by virtue of having made Voices at home nearly by himself on his Mac. That's gotta take crazy amounts of dedication. He has a new film out called "5cm per second" that I still haven't seen yet.
@ep: Eh, sometimes that happens. Just depends on what you like. This one doesn't get into the full swing of things until episode four, when Tina shows up, but I like the first few myself.
@FLCL:
Yep, I still watch Lucky Star. AFK released 17 and 18 yesterday, which is what I got. In comparison to some of the other shows I'm following though, I don't like it quite as much, so that's why I pick on you about it.
As for me.. I am dreading the next few hours.. I suppose it won't be too bad, playing a pirate for these kids, leading them on a treasure hunt, but it is too damn hot to do anything outside, which I am fearing. The kids won't care, they'll sweat up a storm first. I just hope we all work together and find the treasure quick.
Studio Ghibli:
1) Whisper of the Heart
2) The Cat Returns
3) Pom Poko
4) Princess Mononoke
5) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
I spent most of last night on the phone with someone I met here on MTGS whom actually only lives a few hours away from me. Have not hit it off so well with someone like this in ages. So am kind of floating about and stuff now.
I don't know about all of you, but Nausicaa will always be the iconic Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film to me. Even after 20 years, that film is still beautiful and powerful.
Spirited Away is the other Miyazaki film with that kind of staying power.
To join the trend here, and rank my favorites:
1. Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind
2. Princess Mononoke
3. Kiki's Delivery Service
4. Spirited Away
5. Laputa
@ep. - Congrats on the win; I've been out of draft way too long and have no idea about how Xth runs but that looks like its got some nice tricks up its sleeve. (And I just gotta ask, did Millstone manage to pull out any games for you?)
@Movie Lists - Only one I've seen on any of those is Spirited Away... Need to get to watching I guess.
Afternoon everyone! Gonna make this one kinda short...
Nai: Can't stand Halo. Dunno why and probably will never figure it out but I can't stand that game...
Mr. Stuff: I'll have to check out that AotW - sounds oddly enough like my kinda deal.
Drafts: Congrats to you from me as well ep.
And Mago: If you want to practice drafting (and I mean just practice - the autos aren't TOO great at everything) try this page.
Also - for any WoW addicts (or people that like to make fun of WoW) I think this is actually pretty funny.
@ep. - Congrats on the win; I've been out of draft way too long and have no idea about how Xth runs but that looks like its got some nice tricks up its sleeve. (And I just gotta ask, did Millstone manage to pull out any games for you?)
Thanks. And yeah, Millstone won me two games. Once hitting a Tidings that he needed to win, and a Mortivore. It was really useful.
i mean common 5-1 with good tiebreakers going into the final round, and i get paired vs mr .3777 breakers. Anyways i won a 8-4 this morning so im in a better mood. Hey guys.
lol; congrats FC.
@IS - Thank You; Thank You; Thank You! Been way to long since I've even had a casual draft (been no store in town that runs any types of tournaments for quite a while...) (Okay; so apparently my "table" had 4 platinum angels, of course I saw none of these...)
ep - Hmm; I've always been a bit iffy on mill as a support strategy in draft. But seems it worked out for you...
HAY GUYS! You wanna help me get back into the swing with Soltera block?
Well, Soltera is based upon 7th edition. What I did was make a template of 7th, cut it down to 306 cards, and now I'm overwriting the 7th cards with similar designs of my own, so I'm not leaving holes open, which is what happened so often with Academy.
White, blue, and lands are done for now. A little bit of black and green are done, but red is untouched. I need some suggestions, ideas, comments, etc. regarding the set in any form or fashion.
I'd change First Response from something that targets a spell to an instant that can only be played if a creature came into play under your opponent's control this turn; it's a hair more intuitive. It's also a hair more powerful, but the card is weak as it is. (Also, I don't know if it's the intention, but the card doesn't work against ninjas, because using the ninjutsu ability doesn't make them creature spells, and it's too late to block anyway.)
Hidden Bodyguard - Most alt cost spells require that you control a land of the right type.
Ideal Carrier - I hate comparing to Un-spells, but Form of the Squirrel was designed so that every color could handle it - and it prevented you from playing spells altogether. I feel like a 1-mana spell shouldn't be an auto-scoop for green and most white decks.
I really like the idea behind No Surprise. It stops so dang much.
No offense, but I'd ditch the old PC game cards so hard. They're almost all bad, annoying, out of color and badly designed.
Whimsical Sorcerer is way out of color.
Same with Apprentice's Touch. (Yes, I know what it's based on. That was my first rare.)
Blessed Fancy - The blessing only works with haste guys (ninjutsu isn't playing the creature), so it's awful narrow.
Dazzling - This is probably an intentional reprint of Force Void, but that was just obsoleted by Runeboggle. That doesn't make it wrong, but it's a kind of annoying mechanic on an obsolete card.
Mana Breach - 2 mana Annexes are always cool.
Phantasmal Crow - Isn't this a white card? The whole Phantasmal line does white and green things.
To start off here, I'd like to say that I agree with many of the comments Joyd has made. I love No Surprise, and I was thinking about what would happen with some standard builds if this happens... and I'm wondering if you're trying to negate effects, usually things having to do with Bogardan Hellkite? As written, those effects still work.
I also feel similarly about the Shandalar cards, only because the whole random color doesn't do a whole lot. It's only annoying from the perspective of protection. Random effects can be quite annoying, and in the end just don't do a whole lot. I also have a comment about the Holy Strength variant you created: Just for the sake of principle of not printing strictly better cards, would you consider upping the cost to 1W? I know, 2 mana is a lot different than 1, but other cards have shown that such tricks can be really good. Basically, this card is either Holy Strength or Indomitable Will, and having 2 good limited cards in one just seems like it needs to be adjusted to me.
Hey everyone srry for not cacthing up, but iv'e made some new cards that may go in future sets or into Alacar's set tell me what you think Nether Jinx Enchantment-Aura Nether Jinx is Black Morph 2B, Enchant Target Creature When Enchanted Creature becomes blocked it gets –1/-2 until end of turn
Not for Soltera, but mechanically it seems to work. Likely inspired by Future Sight. Morph cost seems fairly reasonable, but I would need to see it in the context of the set as a whole. If there aren't a lot of x/2s, you may even be able to have the morph cost be 1B and it would still be fair.
Forlorn Guard 1W When ~ comes into play put 1 1/1 white soldiers into play. 1/2 “There are strength in numbers.”
That's really funny, because I have a very similar card in my redesign plans for my set. Grammatical correction: Put a, not put 1. Also don't forget the comma after the comes into play clause Oh hell, I'll just spell out what it should say:
When Forlorn Guard comes into play, put a 1/1 white Soldier creature token into play.
Will of Intellect UUU Instant Draw 3 cards. At the end of your turn discard four cards
Wait, isn't this just an instant speed version of Ideas Unbound? Triple blue forces this into blue decks only... hmm. I would actually probably say discard 3 may be fair, as it can be played at the end of your opponent's turn for 3 cards and mana untapped. Test this one. If it's too powerful, you may actually change the amount of cards discarded... the fact that it's an instant makes it really hard to judge. Also, based on wording of draw spells, keep it consistent. Draw three cards.
Birds of Hell 1B Creature-Zombie Bird T, Pay 1 life: add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool “Even things most beautiful can be evil.”
replace 1 with one. Other than that, sounds good, very Black modification on its original incarnation.
Lotus Flower 0
Artifact Phasing T: Add 1 to your mana pool
The only reason this bothers me is that it can be used first turn. A bunch of these is destructive as a first turn drop. Add "Lotus Flower comes into play tapped.", and I'm fine with it. First use 3rd turn, I'd play a few of these for mana at that point.
Nai’s Pipe 0 Artifact 3T: Target creature with less then 3 power gains a land walk of your choice until end of turn.
Needs to be reworded. I don't like to see cards with 0 cost doing this kind of thing just due to the effects of having permanents in play and affinity stuff. Eh, that's not a problem though. The ability should look like this, however: ,T: Target creature with power 3 or less gains your choice of plainswalk, islandwalk, mountainwalk, swampwalk, or forestwalk until end of turn.
Un-Ending Mass 1B or 2B Creature-Blob Ninjutsu B B: Regenerate ~ 1/2 “We fired everything we had it, and it just kept coming.”
This card really doesn't seem to be synergistic, and I really don't like it at all because of that. I mean, Rimewind Dead is B, and it has a similar ability. As a result of it being better than Drudge Skeletons, I'm going to have to say the cost should be BB. I don't think anyone would really play it at all, even in limited, for more than 2 mana. Well, maybe it could be ok at 2B, I just doubt it.
Wary Pathfinder G- Creature-Nomad Elf Shaman 1GT: Search your library for a land card and put into play tapped. 1/1
YAY, Rampant Growth on a stick! This is actually a very good card for deckthinning and stuff. As a result, I suggest increasing the cost to the same as a rampant growth --- wait. You said Land. Not Basic Land. That's a whole different story. Increase the activation cost to 2G, and its casting cost to 1G. Honestly, the card may be able to do too much otherwise.
Group masturbation considered rape...what is the world coming ot nowadays.
Weird also what people consent to and do with themselves when they're bored.

Officially welcome back good sir! I understand why you wanted to take a break, as we have discussed. I hope that you don't feel discouraged by people again... because we really do care. We can all show that we can be supportive when people need to be heard. You are also one of those amazing links that we have to Magic, and for those of us that do still play, your words are of great inspiration to us. I have comments regarding the deck, as we had discussed online earlier.
Hi all i havent been around much of late...suffice to say a lot of things have taken place in my life in a very few moments.
I have come to a point in my life where i find myself in a predicament...i did a few stupid things and lets just say my family did not approve... its not something im particularly proud of and i really regret ever doing what i did...
Regardless, whats done is done and now i have to deal with the consequences of my actions... maybe you may have noticed my post count has gone down....thats because i have been gradually been deleting my posts... i dont do this out of shame but rather as a self punishment...i have come to love this site... i love the people here, they are wonderful people and great friends...i love the discusions because its always so easy to start and follow... and it pains me not to be a part of it anymore...
As a further consetion to my family which i have wronged i have been asked to delete all my contacts and non-family related contacts from both my YM and MSN... im sorry to you all...those who i had plan to talk to more frequently like Alacar, Hunter, Omna, Arguas, Sakura, Itinerant and many more from outside and inside the coffehouse, i will no longer be able to do so...and for that i apologize, i say this so you will not think im avoiding you guys im just simply wanting to give my friends an explanation of why i may not be able to be more regular here.
Again im sorry i havent been around much, and im sorry i wont be able to actively participate in the house more...i wish things didnt turn this way but i made mistakes and must deal with the consequences and make retribution to those i love, and part of that retribution is this post i make to the coffehouse, to explain to my friends why im not to be seen around more... sorry.
Well, this morning I went in for jury duty. I didn't have to really sit on a panel, because the case was resolved this morning before the trial began. It only took about an hour and fifteen minutes altogether. It wasn't so bad, and chances are that I won't be called in for duty again, though since the term for being a potential juror lasts for months, it's a possibility.
@Sepiriel: I'm confused. What is it you have done that it's appropriate to remove yourself from friends and contacts? I don't want to tell you what to do, but doesn't that seem like a bit of an extreme reaction?
Whatever you do, I hope you fare well and that you come to peace with yourself.
I figured that was the case but wasn't really all that sure. That's still ******** in my eye though because, honestly, you flirt quite a bit and with more than just Sepiriel. And besides, in this case, I really didn't see the flirting leading to anything more (maybe he did though... which is rather unrealistic in my eyes). I mean it's INTERNET flirting. If you MEANT it that's when there's something to go with there but I'm pretty sure everyone here has the reason not to be flirting with married or engaged people so I'll shut up here.
You know, I have to agree with the consensus that you were definitely beating yourself up a lot about this Sephirel. Sounds like someone laid a huge guilt trip on you. Even if this discussed Sakura stuff stopped you from being here, you still could have gotten contacts for the rest of us that you wanted to speak to.
Oh, and I still didn't give you the music you wanted If you come back, ask me, and you shall receive it.
on a happier note - I am going to visit Chicago this weekend so that will be fun... I'm visiting Kentucky with family for the whole month then back to england and the real world. I hate it when that happens
Please be happier everyone, it makes me sad to see so many people with badness in their lives
PS. Omna - wow on replying to everyone who has posted
Thanks for the wishes of happiness... as you can see, here's my multiquoting at its finest.
That's nothing. Wait until Arguas deems us worthy of his time stops by. That will really show you the limits multi-quote can reach as it strains to near abuse.
Pretty much, yeah. He's been posting more frequently lately, to be fair, though.
Aww, thanks guys. I like you this much too. Thanks for at least acknowledging that I do this every once in a while for a few hours at a time It's rare that I get this much time to do it though.
Hello everyone i deicded to write a poem about the Earth and its suffering tell me what you think. This is just the begnning of the poem.
The sky of Crimson Weeps for Gia
Gia suffers her Enternal wounds
All around her ignore
As the sky of crimson weeps
Im a very avid writer of poems. One of my poems "What did we do." Which is about the holo-caust will be featured in the 2010 Poem antholegies, because i won a contest. Sadlt for someone i can only write sad poems good all other poems i write about happines turn out sad in the end anyway. Anywho hope everyones having a good day
Actually kind of reminds me of various RPG themes :-p I liked it as well written, kind of circular and in that sense powerful.
thanks, alcar. i was determined at the time to do it without asking for anyone's assistance for some reason. and right now i'm really happy with the one multilink banner. but thanks for the offer.
what do you guys think about people [frequently] changing their avatars/banners, even names? sometimes change is fun, but i find it nice to see at least the same avatar to help quickly identify a person and remember all the things you know about them.
I find it a bit annoying, but it can provide for some interesting variety. Rotating banners can be ok, but I tend to get attached to specific avatars. Maybe it's just me though... I've had this same avatar for most of my stay on MTGSal, thanks to Alacar
One of our old pictures actually featured a Super Smash Brothers character select based upon people's avatars. Most people you wouldn't recognize on that anymore, either due to them disappearing or their avatars changed. :pSometimes fads can dictate that though. And some fads have a way of sticking around
Yey! *Hunter44 eats the cookie* Finally a cookie from Omna..Well danica im really stressed out with these thesis stuff...I hope when I finished this the whole coffeehouse will be beside me to celebrate the victory!
Well LittleDivina, Ill be hanging around here as long as I can. Im happy in here..Ill always be your original Filipino stickin around..And thanks for what you said.^_^
IF thats the reason then its kinda shallow..Maybe there is a bigger reason..Dont feel bad Sakura-Chan..
Have you ever met a man named Arguas2617/Ryan???
Welcome to the house Mago.
GUYS DONT FORGET ITS MY BIRTHDAY ON AUGUST 15!!!! YEY! Im gonna be 20!
Indeed, things done to Sakura were pretty shallow. At least things are looking up. Thank you for offering support for everyone else who is working on a thesis (read: Danica), and we are all hoping that you do well on yours too. This was a hindsight and foresight comment more than anything else, really
Your birthday won't be forgotten. Yay, lots of birthdays! August is a good month. Also, it seems that multiquote is my little signature move at this point, although there are other notables. Omna and Nai particularly... Sometimes I notice that Nai doesn't get a lot of responses either. I know, it can be a little annoying to filter through it all in order to comment on stuff, which is a bit of a downside. More on that later.
Wow...so many birthdays here in such short time. We had a few last week IIRC, and we have more in the next week (mines also in that time, Monday I think).
Anyways, I wanted to say something long and big here, but I got distracted, and now I have to leave in 30 minutes to go to my driving test, and I havent gotten dressed/showered yet. I should pass, and I really hope I do.
I'm also not sure when I will post here again, even if I don't pass the test , I expect to be out all night with friends, and then tomorrow I have bowling followed by some time with people, and sunday...I don't know, that's probably the next time I'll post (if not late tonight).
Save some fun for when I return!
It was good to see you today, glad that I was able to see that you were able to stop by. Good luck on that driving test, look forward to hearing about it I'm sure you'll pass.
It's actually a really convenient way to see what you're responding to, since you often respond to things that are a few pages back if you're kept away for a day or two. We like to pounce on quirks, but nobody seriously minds.
No. At least, I don't because I really enjoy reading your long posts and hearing what you have to say to everyone, within context of their comments:) Its a very good thing indeed, dear
FL also was the first to point out that this is ok too, just missed quoting him. In any case, thanks, not one negative reaction to it. I do what I can, and I'm glad to have gotten your opinions. If you didn't like it, I would have merely changed the style. I admit, the only real problem with multiquoting is it means that others need to go through some extra effort to quote you. Sure, it's great for reading, but responding is hard. I feel that if people do want to respond, it's not too difficult to copy the section of a spoiler and put it in quote tags, though.
for anyone who is writing their thesises (I don't know the plural )... There is hope! I managed to get a first on my final year thesis! So keep at it! Mine was over five months and so much of the time I just thought what is the point, but it is worth giving up on everything for a few months just to ensure that you dont live your life with the "what if"s...
@Omna: go meet her if she wants to meet you... it will show you another level of the past of the one you love... sometimes things like this dont work out, but the not knowing is worse than the knowing (feel free to tell me I dont know what happened before so I have no right to comment - I was just giving you my two cents on the whole thing!)
This ex, who is referred to as Tahlen, is just one of those people you kind of want to smack sometimes. She and I shared some amazing times, and is the only person I've felt that strongly for, but still, this girl has become a psycho in some senses... she's selfish, arrogant, and childish, and then suddenly switches to being somewhat caring, happy-go-lucky, and from what I remember, somewhat friendly. However, she also thinks she is incredibly intelligent, but falls very short of the mark sometimes... and she is very much in tune with her world, and I think has a hard time seeing things outside her house, and also through the eyes of others. In terms of Magic, her personality is almost the ultimate example of the Black/Red combination.
I can most definitely understand your feelings.. I oftentimes feel discarded a lot of the time when people change plans on me... that's one of my biggest problems I think, and I think its especially become an issue with Ryan for instance, because he isn't attempting to make me feel cast aside, but I still feel that way, which is dangerous, because it creates further frustration...
Its unfortunate when anyone needs to block/delete someone from their list... I feel that is the worst thing one can do to someone they communicate with online, because that is essentially the same as cancelling any input they had in your life. But it ultimately is your decision, one which I cannot tell you which is right or wrong... I can just speak from my own experience and opinion.
Sometimes it can be necessary though, as I think it is appropriate in Sakura's case, because it is saying that she wants to not be contacted by a person who has hurt her. And you're right, I really try not to make you feel cast aside... but that involves me bottling things up, just because you are so inclined to immediately feel like I am. At least we're working with each other on that right now
Yeah, last summer was not pretty, and hurt both of us more than we really wanted.. But I'm almost completely confident this would not happen again with this girl... For one thing, she's lesbian now, and any remaining feelings he had for her were pretty much shot when they broke up the last time (the fifth...)
Hehe.. I would like to crush her as well... So much of Magic involves luck though, so we'd have to see.... although she claims to have not played in years.................Then again, I haven't played in 3 months, so I may be a bit rusty as well, so again, luck?
True... That could be interesting... I don't know, if she does, that'll just give me one more reason not to like her
Ummm, yea. She will NOT result in a repeat of the incident with Sage. Tahlen and I may have had some history, but she pushed me away, along with many of her other friends... and well, as a result of that, I really feel like there isn't anything at all to be worried about. The thing is, Danica, I feel like you are a better player than she is, and as a result, even if luck comes into play, you likely will be able to adapt to your situations better. I can even tell you what kind of deck I expect her to play after all this time. And it doesn't have anything to do with her magic personality... rather, it has to do with the image she has of herself, which is very green. I wonder if she still would break out that Cat deck of hers.
That's very true... I'd like to meet her, if only to go full circle in meeting everyone that was vital in Ryan's life growing up. Last summer, in a rather bare bones description: some poor choices were made on my part that involved an encounter which resulted in comparison between myself and another of his ex-girlfriends, while he was attempting to figure out his already confused feelings, which eventually led to a poor decision by the girl involved which confused him further, and caused a deterioration of trust between us that we are still struggling to repair in some senses. Hope that clarifies anything. its a painful experience to recount, so I'm not giving huge detail. But I'll have to give that some thought.. I do think it might be worthwhile to meet her, as I said before, to learn more about his past.. Thank you for your consideration and assistance
It was also stuff that needed to be worked out between yourself and I. Bringing her into the picture really made things worse then... at least it's over now without possibility of it being stirred up again.
As for learning Japanese, congratulations... and 5 languages.. wow, that's quite the accomplishment!
And a difference.... Hmm yeah probably.. We'll have to discuss that later
Quoted for Truth... Solid plans being broken can definitely be irritating.... and sometimes it actually happens that a person misunderstands that you perceived it as a solid plan.. So that can be doubly annoying when the other person says "We planned this?" ... d'oh!
It seems that he did, and we are all glad he is back.
I believe its theses
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo very true... Just to keep on keepin' on, put yer nose to the grindstone and you shall succeed..... Or rather in this case, I should say I should
And congratulations Sakura to the 1200th post Have a
Just got back from lunch with a friend... had sushi after all.. It was good, but not that good... So it was fun to catch up with him and his new girlfriend
I'll check again in a few
EDIT: Sorry Mago, I was talking to someone last week or so (friend of Kevin's actually) and he said he saw that I was reading American Gods on the Coffeehouse and I didn't know his sn, and I could have sworn I saw this name online aroudn that time, so I apologize And of course, glad you like the coffee
Lots said in these responses... I'll go from the bottom up. From what you're telling me, the book has gotten better than that... thing that was likely a Succubus early on. Still curious about that though, whether or not that is correct. Eh, well, that's kind of more random anyway. I'm just actually kind of glad that you saw that it was so... not much of an appealing lure for a book.
Sushi is very good and i'm just glad you had a good time with that lunch outing.
Glad also that you feel confident about your thesis work, and where that can be going... after we discussed some of your other grades, it looks like you are on a very good track for this summer, which makes me very happy to hear!
Just even being bilingual expands one's mind... Japanese being so different from other languages that we are aware of is an excellent way to do so. Also, there are other forms of communication that can open one's mind... which you have shown me very well, Danica
Just to point out here as well, I'm not sure if many people have picked up on it, but I have noticed that from time to time Danica has been posting stuff here that is personal to her, but still very big for her as she communicates it in a group of close friends. The unfortunate thing is that there are typically few responses... so I guess I'm hoping that when Omna does say something like that, I'm hoping that more often it will get noticed.
@Mamelon : Honestly Mams, when it happens it makes my week. My favorite monets in the past few months; Random guy driving by in van whistling at me, older guy whoms printer I was fixing telling me I had a sexy voice and flirting with me, another female friend telling me I had a voice like a phone-sex operator, Alacar telling me my voice was sexy on the phone. These little things make up for all the pain, loneliness, and confusion...and keep me going. In these brief moments my whole life comes together. I have moments where I think "maybe I should just give up and live as a man so that people will accept me", these moments where my esteem is at rock bottom. But then I get these brief glimpses of completeness. And that is what they bring me, completeness. I have never felt so complete and whole as I have when given such a simple fulfilling compliment or acceptance as a woman as a sexual object. This makes everything worthwhile and gives me the strength to continue.
I know that these things can make you feel really good about yourself, and that is understandable, considering what you have been through in your life. Additionally with your confusion with gender. However, me being who I am, I just kind of wish that someone didn't need to say that you were sexy, per se. Beautiful, yes, but sexy, as you noted, makes the indication that one is a sex object. I would just think that more could be expected for someone who is as kind hearted as you tend to be. I understand that it makes you feel beautiful, but beautiful and sexy are truly two different things. For one to be desirable on a physical level is nothing compared to emotional levels. And it is due to the emotional level that I must say that I feel you deserve better than that.
Sorry I haven't been around. FFXI has been the target of my obsession.
It's amazing what I find out about myself. I hated the game when I kept dying, when the inflation (due to gilsellers) on the game was so horrible that I wasn't able to buy any good armor... But now that I'm able to get parties, now that I'm able to buy armor, now that I'm succeeding... I'm happy with it again.
First off, despite the gilsellers, I'm still amazed at how these worlds can actually emulate currency with inflation and whatnot. It is quite impressive what programmers who also have economic exposure can do
My original comment to this actually was that the reason I'm noticing you liking games like these are because they provide you with a sense of fulfillment once you accomplish your goals. It's really frustrating when goals can't be accomplished, especially if you're doing everything right. So, this has been taken into account, and now the game seems a lot more fun ^_^. This is good to hear.
By the way, did you continue to find frustration in Starcraft?
Yeah he has like 16-20 forms now there goes ben 10 its more like ben 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Whispers of the Heart really was one of those feel-good movies. I remember kind of enjoying this little love story, although it seemed a little overly simplistic at times. Unfortunately, I haven't seen too much else, but that in itself did kind of stand out to me.
By the way, hope that being a pirate for kids still turns out to be fun. I'd find it funny if a kid decided to be rebellious and dressed up as a ninja. Quite honestly, if the kid wanted to do it and I was the parent, I think that people would get a kick out of it, and might even have allowed it
Kevin, you've been talking with me a little while now about this deck that you were testing. I remember you saying that you consistently were beating some of the dominant decks in the format with it, and I voiced that I was quite impressed. Based on our discussion, I'm almost surprised that only 2 Jotun Grunts are on the sideboard. I honestly expected more, with so many decks being able to do graveyard effects. In fact, as you pointed out, they are a key player in the fight against Threshold... Is the only two there due to other cards, or do you find it to just be unnecessary?
Also, I thank you again for reminding me about those Grunts... definitely made me think about potential answers that I was looking for
I missed a few pages, I will dig backwards... * Sakura gets shovel
This I just did. Wow, this took a few hours to write. Congrats on things going well for you, Sakura.... I hope things go well and you find an emotional connection. Hope the sexual flirtation doesn't dominate things though
So yea, one needs a shovel in here sometimes. Alongside a broom, a waffle iron, and a wet noodle. Speaking of which, where has AoK been?
Thanks everyone, here's to hoping that you all have a good day! Plenty for me to do today... free time at last
@ep: congrats on the FNM finish! We should all do a draft here in the coffeehouse again sometime the last time i had fun pairing up against arguas wasn't something i looked forward to though.
@alacar: thanks alacar yeah i truely like the deck and my funkbrew partner says its a new age deck for the entire funk team and i was astonished to hear that. I just playtested against CRET belcher(which people on the source of legacy talk about it being one of the combo decks to beat while the other being the epic storm) again just one preboard and one postboard both me being on the draw and i ended up winning both times. Force of will in the opening hand was the way to go on game 1 and having engineered explosives and pyroclasms helped out alot against their turbo fast goblin tokens.
@mr. stuff: nice review on aotw!
@joyd: thanks for welcoming me back.
@Nai: ive always liked to play halo quite a bit i like the multiplayer co op in the game as well.
@arguas: Well i just wanted to experience with having about 3 angels and 2 rakavolvers but then i found out that 2 of each was enough for the deck since having one more angel seems like a win more then anything else. I have decided to go back with jotun grunts though having 3 of them in the sideboard seems efficient enough so there it is yeah just wanted to experient with some more cards. Not to mention exalted angels and engineered explosives gives you quite the upperhand against threshold from my testing anyway. Obviously this deck isnt able to beat everything but its capable of beating the most played decks in the format. But id rather have a good game against threshold then lets say reanimator since threshold has always been a top 8 contender in any legacy tournament and at every legacy tournament rather at least all of the big ones on the east coast that is.
Congrats on things going well for you, Sakura.... I hope things go well and you find an emotional connection. Hope the sexual flirtation doesn't dominate things though
Dominate is an awfully curious choice of word to use in that context... trying to imply something there?
As always, you've got that multi-quote thing down. Quite impressive.
I'm just in town for now, having run some errands. I picked up a movie for the oldest of my two younger brothers, since it's his 16th birthday today. He likes old and cheesy horror films, so I got him a double-feature disc that has Wes Craven's "Shocker" and "The People Under The Stairs". Now I'm busy organizing my DVD+R collection and trying to get some more things burned.
Mine are;
1. Princess Mononoke
Unfortunately, i dont believe i've watched any makoto shinkai works. you guys seem to enjoy them alot, i'll have to watch some later today.
I agree on HL and HL2 trumping halo. It beats it with just the havoc engine.
Who doesnt like smashing people with a washing machine or a cardboard box or anything
Grats on the finish!
Thats a pretty good box in comparison to the 3 i've netted. i havent pulled 1 needle!
This is the deck that I had last night that kicked butt at FNM.
UGH! MILLSTONE!
That card is AMAZING! I lost several casual drafts/fnms already to millstone, and if i see it, it goes into my deck. gotten it twice so far, but i do draft alot. (1 time irl, 3-4 times on modo a day :P)
As for me.. I am dreading the next few hours.. Ooh you get to be a pirate
You should have told those kids that if they gave you any trouble you'd make them walk the plank

@Mr stuffs banner: I remember watching totoro when i was really young, good memories
got 1st at todays fnm playing storm.
Nice review nai, i loved the writing. i would have stop reading it half way through but it was well thought out and unlike most reviews, actually made sense to me.
@ Miyazaki's works:

Mine are;
1. Princess Mononoke
I even made a banner dedicated to the pixelation of the games of yesteryear.
3 Volcanic Island
3 Tundra
4 Flooded Strand
3 Island
3 Plains
2 Mountain
1 Bloodstained Mire
2 Wooded Foothills
1 Polluted Delta
1 Plateau
Creatures
2 Exalted Angel
2 Rakavolver
3 Jotun Grunt
4 Counterspell
4 Force of will
4 Brainstorm
3 Engineered Explosives
3 Swords to plowshares
3 Pyroclasm
2 Fire//Ice
2 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Disenchant
2 Serum visions
1 Wrath of god
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Pyroclasm
4 Meddling Mage
3 Pithing Needle
1 Disenchant
1 Wrath of god
1 Eternal Dragon
2 Jotun Grunt
Stay tuned until next time for another legacy of the week.
see you all later.
Love,
Cecilia

@Stuff: That AotW just doesn't seem to do it for me. Watched the first 2-3 eps. and just really couldn't get into it.
@Nai: Halo. There isn't really much to say about Halo. Just that it is overhyped and overplayed. People don't even remember its story, just the fact that 'ZOMG its Halo!' I really hate that game so much.
@FLCL:
Yep, I still watch Lucky Star. AFK released 17 and 18 yesterday, which is what I got. In comparison to some of the other shows I'm following though, I don't like it quite as much, so that's why I pick on you about it.
1 Faerie Conclave
1 Llanowar Wastes
1 Spawning Pool
3 Terramophic Expanse
4 Swamp
3 Island
3 Forest
Creatures
2 Crafty Pathmage
1 Merfolk Looter
1 Sage Owl
1 Hate Weaver
1 Highway Robber
1 Hypnotic Specter
1 Nekrataal
1 Kavu Climber
1 Pincher Beetles
1 Quirion Dryad
2 Rushwood Dryad
1 Mantis Engine
1 Peek
1 Persuasion
3 Afflict
2 Recover
1 Rampant Growth
1 Chromatic Star
1 Millstone
This is the deck that I had last night that kicked butt at FNM.

I am actually in a really good mood today.
I spent most of last night on the phone with someone I met here on MTGS whom actually only lives a few hours away from me. Have not hit it off so well with someone like this in ages. So am kind of floating about and stuff now.
Alacar, did you add that banner for me?
I missed a few pages, I will dig backwards...
* Sakura gets shovel
Spirited Away is the other Miyazaki film with that kind of staying power.
To join the trend here, and rank my favorites:
1. Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind
2. Princess Mononoke
3. Kiki's Delivery Service
4. Spirited Away
5. Laputa
@Movie Lists - Only one I've seen on any of those is Spirited Away... Need to get to watching I guess.

Thanks. And yeah, Millstone won me two games. Once hitting a Tidings that he needed to win, and a Mortivore. It was really useful.
Also thanks IS!
i mean common 5-1 with good tiebreakers going into the final round, and i get paired vs mr .3777 breakers. Anyways i won a 8-4 this morning so im in a better mood. Hey guys.
and Samurai Soldier I do sleep
@IS - Thank You; Thank You; Thank You! Been way to long since I've even had a casual draft (been no store in town that runs any types of tournaments for quite a while...) (Okay; so apparently my "table" had 4 platinum angels, of course I saw none of these...)
ep - Hmm; I've always been a bit iffy on mill as a support strategy in draft. But seems it worked out for you...

Draw three cards.
replace 1 with one. Other than that, sounds good, very Black modification on its original incarnation.
The only reason this bothers me is that it can be used first turn. A bunch of these is destructive as a first turn drop. Add "Lotus Flower comes into play tapped.", and I'm fine with it. First use 3rd turn, I'd play a few of these for mana at that point.
Needs to be reworded. I don't like to see cards with 0 cost doing this kind of thing just due to the effects of having permanents in play and affinity stuff. Eh, that's not a problem though. The ability should look like this, however:
,T: Target creature with power 3 or less gains your choice of plainswalk, islandwalk, mountainwalk, swampwalk, or forestwalk until end of turn.
Weird also what people consent to and do with themselves when they're bored.
Thanks for the wishes of happiness... as you can see, here's my multiquoting at its finest.
Aww, thanks guys. I like you this much too. Thanks for at least acknowledging that I do this every once in a while for a few hours at a time It's rare that I get this much time to do it though.
It was good to see you today, glad that I was able to see that you were able to stop by. Good luck on that driving test, look forward to hearing about it I'm sure you'll pass.
By the way, fitting avatar for a place like this
Sometimes it can be necessary though, as I think it is appropriate in Sakura's case, because it is saying that she wants to not be contacted by a person who has hurt her. And you're right, I really try not to make you feel cast aside... but that involves me bottling things up, just because you are so inclined to immediately feel like I am. At least we're working with each other on that right now
It was also stuff that needed to be worked out between yourself and I. Bringing her into the picture really made things worse then... at least it's over now without possibility of it being stirred up again.
That is quite A BIT Over Nine Thou---
... Yea. That's what I get for not being in here more often. At least someone provided the immediate joke that I thought of. Thanks, Mr.!
By the way, hope that being a pirate for kids still turns out to be fun. I'd find it funny if a kid decided to be rebellious and dressed up as a ninja. Quite honestly, if the kid wanted to do it and I was the parent, I think that people would get a kick out of it, and might even have allowed it
Also, I thank you again for reminding me about those Grunts... definitely made me think about potential answers that I was looking for
This I just did.

See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses*

Grats on the finish!
Thats a pretty good box in comparison to the 3 i've netted. i havent pulled 1 needle!
UGH! MILLSTONE!
That card is AMAZING! I lost several casual drafts/fnms already to millstone, and if i see it, it goes into my deck. gotten it twice so far, but i do draft alot. (1 time irl, 3-4 times on modo a day :P)
Ooh you get to be a pirate
You should have told those kids that if they gave you any trouble you'd make them walk the plank
if your opponent had gotten that mortivore you would have been doomed. nice luck
Well, im off to drink some coffee and go draft.
