He also wrote the Sandman graphic novels and the book the movie Stardust is based off as two other big projects that hes done. He writes a lot of other Fantasy novels and has a style thats reminiscent (in a good way) of a lot of other popular author's like Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club) and others (at least thats the vibe I get from him at times...)
I'm going to have to take a moment to pimp Sandman. Seriously, if you can get your hands on them, I'd highly recommend them to anyone. (Well, maybe not little kids.) Photon, Ether, I think you guys might like the series especially. (Or hate it. It's hard to tell with you guys sometimes.)

@Joyd. I cannot find school rumble on my anime viewing website, though I found this 6 episode anime named school days. Its not bad...
Really? I was under the impression that it was hugely popular, but I'm not an expert on anime or anything. Maybe it's more obscure, or usually goes by a different name. Here's the anidb entry.

School Rumble is really great. It's not "Daioh" great, but it's still great. School Days, though, I haven't much cared for. It's not actually six episodes - it's still airing on Japanese TV right now. It's one of the summer season shows. More episodes will be added as they become available.
This is the last straw. I didn't make it through three episode of Daioh, and I hear nothing but amazing things about it. I mean, I love school-based anime (especially FMP:F and School Rumble), but I just couldn't bring myself to watch any more Azumanga Daioh after the first two. There has to be -something- there, though, or I wouldn't hear nothing but praise for the series.
I just finished Doki Doki School Hours, which I believe had the same writer as Azumanga Daioh in under a week, and would highly recommend it. (There's some very weak episodes about 2/3 of the way through the run, but hey, it happens. It's worth sticking through to the end, though, as the last two episodes are very good.)
Taking all this in mind, I'm going back to AD. Tonight. My roommate may yell at me for not finishing FMP:TSR instead, and my sister's boyfriend may yell at me for not finishing Eureka 7 instead, but there is no way I am going to live with the question, "What's so good about #!$#$ Azumanga Daioh, anyway?" any longer.

Bravo, my good man, bravo. As for what's so great - it's the characters! If I recall correctly, you may not have even seen Kimura-sensei yet, and he's one of the stars of the show. Also of note - Episode 13 is just pure hilarity, one of the funniest moments I've seen in anime. I don't think I've seen a group of people respond as well to a joke before as when we watched that one in Anime Club.
Doki-Doki School days may go on "the list", but it'll be behind Yotsuba&, which is another show by the creator of Daioh I haven't seen.
Joyd finish TSR, otherwise you don't see the conclusion for hte arc XD. I really hope kyoani gets back to finishing up the 2nd part of the arc once the last novel is finished in september. we ned more of kaname's paper taskamsters slapper!

As you'd probably expect, Doki Doki School Days isn't a huge 'investment'. Every episode stands on its own and requires essentially no cognitive focus. The show consists more or less of the same dozen or so jokes over and over again. There's no important continuity and no plot, and most episodes are just a series of short sketches around a theme. The characters are one-dimensional stereotypes to the last of them, but they're all instantly likable, even if each one is just used to make the same joke over and over again. I'm not some kind of anime expert, but I'd totally jump on it eventually. (Though like I said earlier, there's some episodes later in the run that are just weak. Remember how there are some episodes of School Rumble - Ni Gakki that sort of abandon the character-based humor and just kind of throw the characters is weird situations that don't hold up well? Doki Doki School Hours does that big time in a few places.)
Sorry I haven't been around. FFXI has been the target of my obsession.
It's amazing what I find out about myself. I hated the game when I kept dying, when the inflation (due to gilsellers) on the game was so horrible that I wasn't able to buy any good armor... But now that I'm able to get parties, now that I'm able to buy armor, now that I'm succeeding... I'm happy with it again.
@Nai - Makes sense; that once the game became enjoyable you started liking it!
BTW - they finally did away with all the Gilsellers? (I remember that was a big issue back in the day... ;))
I don't know what's been happening in the parallel universe of FFXI, but Blizzard has in the past few months cracked down on the gold sellers, hard, with both in-game measures and legal measures in World of Warcraft. Since it's all the same companies that do the selling, I wouldn't be surprised if similar things have been happening in the world of FFXI.
Hey has anyone else played the DS RPG Etrian Odyssey. I just got it today, and i have to say this game is AMAZING so fun and intutive ive only played for like 4 hrs and iv'e been kiled by an FOE like 3 times XD.
Another thing i got today was Mana Vol. 1,2,3 of Dragon Drive i think it's a good manga with some intresting plot twist, but it still doesn't top DNangel, and Death Note for me. I dont think anything will ;).
I was wacthing cartoon netwrok for the Ben 10 movie, and i was SHOCKED i saw a preiview for a LIVE ACTION BEN 10 movie. I was like wow that's intresting. i was kinda mad too. I mean come on a ben 10 movie BEFORE a live action DBZ movie COME ON.

Ironically enough I'm just about to start a 2 hour mini-marathon of AD. Just picked up a Chinese 3 DVD set of it for 20 bucks - me thinks it was pirated (no company tags or copyrights or anything) but it works fine and is high quality on my end so no complaints really.
As for why even I loved it, it was one of those anime where you can just let it wash over you and absorb the jokes. Plus that final episode was absolute top notch quality. Oh-Em-Gee! I can honestly say that's the first time I cried watching an anime.
Gilsellers: I don't play MMORPGs but a close friend of mine is addicted to WoW and FFXI both and was complaining about this for a good two weeks. It got so bad for him that eventually he gave in and fed the gilsellers his money. I can tell already that it was bad just by how you have the original monthly fee then it ended up being like a second fee just to get the gold to get the good armor and weapons... I'm glad to hear that nightmare has lessened.

I mean come on a ben 10 movie BEFORE a live action DBZ movie COME ON.
They WERE working on a live action DBZ movie (or at least imdb was reporting one) way back around 01 roughly (year might be fuzzy). Word was they were shooting in Hawaii and it was to come out sometime in '04 but the movie was eventually scrapped for being WAY over the top cheezy - not because they weren't sticking with the material but because they stuck with it too much. Besides I believe these days the transformations for Ben 10 are a lot more doable (and "absorbable" by the audience) than flying, power-shot using Sayans.
Heh; probably be quite a bit more doable (Ben 10 Live Action).
How was the Ben 10 movie on CN anyway? I meant to check it out but was busy then...
It was neh at best. I think it was just an excuse to show a new alien :-/, but other than cheesy puns, horrible script, and the ocasinal hero sterotype to the MAX thing, it was good.

If you're looking for a DragonBall (not DBZ) live-action movie...
I think that... I think that killed a bit of me...
@Allin - I've only seen a couple episodes but did they start doing it so that hes got a bunch more alien forms?
Yeah he has like 16-20 forms now there goes ben 10 its more like ben 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Those seven minutes are just a few of the worst clips from the movie. I sat through the whole 2-hour thing at an anime con. It was one of the most mindbogglingly terrible and yet at once hilarious things I've ever seen.
My top 5 Miyazaki Movies:
5. Howl's Moving Castle
4. Spirited Away
3. My Neigbour Totoro
2. Princess Mononoke (might I add that I absolutely adore the kodama)
1. Nausicaa
I think, for me... The list is more like:
1. Spirited Away
2. Howl's MOving Castle
3. Princess Mononoke
4. Kiki's Delivery Service
5. Tie between My Neighbor Totoro and Castle in the Sky.
@Nai - Makes sense; that once the game became enjoyable you started liking it!
BTW - they finally did away with all the Gilsellers? (I remember that was a big issue back in the day... ;))
Any gilsellers being caught are being banned, completely, which includes credit card information. Unfortunately, they're being a little slow about getting to my server.
In addition to banning gilsellers, they've also banned use of third party programs on computers. Which is mostly a good thing, because there are programs that can predict where and when a Notorious Monster (which drop GOOD items) will pop. And, in addition to THAT, they've removed something like 30 billion gil, among all the servers, from circulation, which has been good to kill inflation.
And yeah. I'm not really a quitter, unless I found something where I never win. I can enjoy anything unless it seems rigged.

Most of them are the same companies, yes. I've seen the advertisements. Unfortunately, I don't think Squeenix or Blizzard can actually kill the companies themselves. So they ban people who use them.
@Nai: I play FFXI to^^ tell me which world your in and maybe we can play sometime.
Well im done ranting for now^^.
I play on Ifrit, almost exclusively. I don't want to have to level another character as high as I am now. I'd be happy to get you a world pass, if you'd like.
At the end sora says this "I see but now it went away. The Mirror; Put your right against the mirror forward and far. You are meant far off agianst the mirror that has your rights." Any idea what it means?
@FoolyCooly- Good Luck! And don't forget to Have Fun!
@Allin - Nope. Though all watch that and see if anything comes to me...
Edit - Watched it, no idea what its getting at though... Anyone else like how the background music ends up when songs are reversed, its sounds so eerie and cool...
Kaoru Hanabishi is a single guy living in an apartment by himself, struggling to take care of college and live on his own. He's managed to run from his past, and he thinks he's finally doing well for himself. One day, at the train station, he runs into a strange girl wearing a kimono, who seems to be lost. He helps her find where she's going, but when they get there, it turns out to have been a wrong address. Ever the nice guy, Kaoru offers her a place to stay for the night. When conversation turns to why she came to the city, she pulls out an old photograph. Apparently she's been trying to find the boy in the photo, her childhood friend. But wait... isn't that a picture of Kaoru himself, with his friend Aoi, from long ago? When she discovers the person she'd been looking for had been right beside her all along, Aoi makes her announcement: She's come to marry Kaoru, and she's run away from home to do it.
Sappy way to start a romantic comedy, eh? Well, it only gets sappier, and more endearing, as the show goes on. This is one of the first romance series I saw once I got into anime, and it holds a special place in my heart. At times, like Chobits, it relies on ecchiness for comedy, and sometimes throws in fanservice just for the sake of it, but the way they explore the plot and the budding romance is strong enough to make that largely irrelevent. The two main characters are well fleshed-out, and the side characters aren't relegated to being mere decorations either, for the most part. The biggest thing this series has going for it is the strength and seriousness of the romantic moments. The second biggest thing it has is a plot that makes you really care about the characters, even the obnoxious ones. Other romances can become unrealistic or too flufffy at times, but this one stays largely serious and endearing in the romance department throughout, and actually plays up the differences between the two main characters, earning it a spot in my personal top three anime romance stories.
Looks cool! Might take a look into it when I finally finish Chobits; I only have a handful of episodes left but It'll take some getting back into...
Nice feature that you do here; nice way to brush up on Anime knowledge and get into new series!
