Aww, it's a shame you won't be able to catch the fireworks. It always sucks when work or something else comes up on holidays. I remember how much I hated having to work Christmas Eve last year.
Congrats on your grades, Evan. Forgive me if I've forgotten, but what instrument do you play (if you play)? I was just curious given the music theory test.
I'm back from the BMV (grr, $70 plates). I'll be on for a couple of more hours tonight until I go see Die Hard at 9:30.
Rather slow birthday for me. Had to pay my cell phone off or lose it. Had to walk everywhere because this town has crappy transit which is completely gone on holidays, and today is a holiday. The good part is I have training today at work (and the next two days) and thus do not have to be on the phone.
Wish I had internet so i could hang online with my friends for my bday.
How amazingly awesome is this for a birthday present?
Dear Mr. Plants,
Thank you very much for applying to teach English in Japan with Nova. We would like to invite you to interview with us at our Chicago office.
The Interview Process Interviews are normally held on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. Please call us for available dates. We are currently hiring for 12-month contracts beginning as early as Fall 2007. Additionally, you can look at our website for upcoming recruiting trips that may be located closer to you.
The Nova interview is a one-day process consisting of a group information session followed by individual interviews. The information session will begin at 9:00 am and go to approximately 11:00 am. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate late arrivals. The purpose of the information session is to give you a clear picture of the living and working conditions in Japan and with Nova, and to answer any questions you might have about this opportunity. We will cover in detail topics such as work visa sponsorship, housing arrangements, salary/cost of living, working conditions at Nova, and our curriculum and teaching method. Please review our website and prepare any questions you might have. Business attire is required.
Following the information session, we will assign individual interview times for each candidate. The interviews last about 45 minutes each. Interviews proceed throughout the day, so please set aside the day until approximately 3:00pm.
In order to guarantee a safe environment for both you and our students, we require all candidates whose applications pass the first stage of our selection process to undergo a background check. Together with American Databank, a leader in the pre-employment screening field, we have devised a simple and inexpensive procedure for conducting the background check. The service is done online and costs $55.00. If our review of your application materials and interview results is favorable, we will send you details on how to arrange for the check.
Preparing for the Interview
Before coming to your scheduled appointment for the information session and interview, please prepare the following materials:
a photocopy of your college diplomaa copy of your passport, including any previous visas or entry/exit stamps for Japan two copies of your resumeThe written application form. When completing the application form please include a complete education history.
In addition to the copy of your college diploma it is necessary for us to see the original. Please bring this with you to the interview. We can certainly interview you if you do not have access to your diploma and/or passport. Missing materials may be submitted later.
We are located at the corner of Franklin and Washington in downtown Chicago , 3 blocks north of the Sears Tower .
To book your interview, please call us as soon as possible. I have also attached a company newsletter to give you an idea about life in Japan . We look forward to hearing from you.
*dances* *twice*
Hoo, there's no stoppin' me today. This is the happiest I've been in a long time.
LD, I'm going to see Transformers tomorrow, but I'll be sure not to spoil it for ya. Hehe. I'll probably like it no matter whether it's good or not.
OMG Stuffsy! COngratulations! I envy you. I have always dreamed of going to Japan, preferably Tokyo.^_^
Well guys Im going to review my law subject today. Wish me luck.

Aww... *hugs* Hope it gets better for ya. Like you said, at least you don't really have to work.
@Hunter:
Consider luck wished your way!
However... What the hell... I must have some kind of amazing weird mojo going today. My mother brought our mail up, and my state income tax return of $100 came back today. Apparently even the government wants to help me celebrate. What is this, some kind of cosmic "be nice to me" day? That, combined with everything else today and this pizza I'm eating right now makes me wonder.
Anyway, I need to hop off the 'net for a while. My brother wants to play a game of magic, and I need to get a request up for my shop.
hey...*shakes head* stupid computer...I've been having internet troubles...sorry for not being around...
Well...I've been a bit busy, also *cough* but mostly internet troubles...you could say I've been...umm...occupied with members of the female persuasion, or, a member...:D

Mornin' everybody. Its technically 11:45 over here, but I know for most of y'all its past midnight Unless Strongbad is still around
Been doing some reading for my online Communication in Business class....The next assignment is gonna be a doozy, writing up a business report... anybody have any tips on doing that?? Any tips at all would be helpful
I'm tired though.. I've got about 1 1/2 more chapters to read, then I need to read the Kodak Annual Reports from 1997 and 2000 and figure out how to write at least a page (most likely more) on their differences... who they're targeted to, etc..... Ah, screw it.. the assignment exactly is:
"Go to http://www.kodak.com/cluster/global/en/service/library/corporate/index.shtml and compare Kodak's 1997 annual report with its 2000 report. Write at least a one-page report comparing the similarities and differences. In your analysis, please include your thoughts on what the main message and objective of each annual report is and who the primary audience is for each."
Any input would be much appreciated
And of course aside from this online course, I also have to deal with my Senior Thesis, which's 2nd installment is due on July 25th, and as mentioned in my previous post, I have a bazillion things to do between now and then!
Well at least I found my golfing glove, I have another one which I've been using the last two times out on the driving range, but its much older and falling apart... Also found the edits my teacher (and the chair of my department.. ) made on the initial draft (installment #1) of my thesis, which as I review, actually makes a modicum of sense, which I'm relieved about.. only a few parts, I'm a bit skeptical of and plan to ask my other advisor about...
Anyway but now I'm rambling... I'm on quite an academic bent right now, but unfortunately I do need to get some sleep so that I can be far more productive tomorrow... I have ideas for things I need to do, but other things need to come first before I can address those....
Oh in other news, I watched Stone Phillips' last Dateline tonight... Anybody know/remember what happened, why he's going off the air??? I seem to remember reading it somewhere, but I forgot now.... Anyway, the show was good.. Tear-inducing at some points (interview with his own dad), and creepy in others (interview with Jeffrey Dahmer was one... *chills up my spine*)...
Oh also, in Bend (Oregon) this weekend, I went to a used bookstore, and found four cool books.. an old Signet paperback of "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand, "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, another book for my thesis research and finally, last but certainly not least! the Official Magic: The Gathering Pocket Players' Guide... I have the one that looks like a Magic card-back, on the front cover... Its slightly older than the one Ryan has, and it was published in 1993, 1994, something like that.. both dates are on the copyright page. It's pretty cool cuz Richard Garfield, the creator of the game talks about how he created Magic, how it started, how it became the phenomenon it is today When I saw a book about Magic, I just had to pick it up! Paperback, stiff cardboard-stock cover, great collectible, and good resource, even if some of the particular rules may be outdated:p
Anyway, sorry for the (as usual :p) long post, but I wanted to share that with you guys.... Has anybody read (or attempted to read :p) American Gods or Atlas Shrugged ? Both books I've wanted to read for quite some time.... Right now I need to finish my business report assignment, remain intent on the midterm, and work on my thesis, for at least a week or so.. then I can resume reading "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell," of which I read around 300 pages this weekend Its a 732 page book, so that's no small feat I miss the old days of being able to read at practically the speed of light .. I've slowed down, speed-reading wise quite a bit, since I've been burdened by all the academic knowledge that so many dry textbooks have encumbered me with. Don't get me wrong, I still love books, still thirst for knowledge and all that which books award a person, but recreational reading was always something I loved, and something which has been slowly sucked dry from me since I came to college... I still enjoy it when I can, but oft-times, I don't get the opportunity since I need(ed?) to read this or that for school..
Again, I ramble.... Have a good night everybody......and read a good book! For me!
Tilapia was discovered and bred in the Philippines by Dr. Villadolid, and by coincidence my best friend, Bianca, is his grand daughter. *Bianca Beatriz Villadolid Trocino* ^^
I love to eat this stuff, especially grilled tilapia on a sunday afternoon. Add teriyaki sauce and eat it on a banana leaf with garlic rice... mmmm...
Have you guys eaten catfish before? Grilled is good, especially with spicy/sweet teriyaki sauce on a banana leaf...
Just a quick hello, as I'm in a rush, but enough of that banter, how is everyone and a quick happy birthday to the people who are celebrating their birthdays.
Well I like the little fishes above me, hahaha also it is my birthday this month, so get me something nice ok people...
It's your birthday too?
Okay:
Happy birthday to

- Sakura
- everyone else who's celebrating their birthday today.
Okay, gotta get back to studying now guys. See you all soon!
thought i'd just like to stop by and say hi to the coffeehouse
i'd like to first send a belated birthday congrats to Mr. Stuff
and second, ninja pirate how did you get your AP grades already?
Can you check online or did you do the phone thing, or was collegeboard actually responsible and quick in their mailings.
Just dropping by and i'd like to say the name of this thread is Amazingly awesome
I just think its interesting, FoolyCooly; your banner shows the NERV symbol, and it has a line from Anne of Green Gables.
Mr. Stuff, that's such great news about Nova! I'm so glad you finally got a response. Seems like your dream of living in Japan is but on the horizon. That's so exciting. I wish you the best!
Just goes to show you can talk and talk and talk in here for days, and some people STILL won't have heard you.
Yeah. Well, now there are some sparkly birthday threads for y'all.
Quote from Mr. Stuff »
I celebrated my birthday a little bit early on Saturday because I had work Sunday and today. I still plan on doing a little more celebrating today though - namely starting a "Magic Knight Rayearth"-fest, since I got the first 49 episodes on Saturday
Oooh, sounds like fun. Especially if you've never seen Rayearth before (which I haven't). Have fun, 49 episodes is quite a bit to watch.
Heh, I got my state check yesterday, too. It took a while, but the timing was great.
I'm glad you're having such a great time. *hug*

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Been doing some reading for my online Communication in Business class....The next assignment is gonna be a doozy, writing up a business report... anybody have any tips on doing that?? Any tips at all would be helpful
Suggestion #1: Examine the "Letter to the Shareholders" with a fine-tooth comb. It's one of the first parts of the the report and it will summarize all the most important points about what happened during the year, what lead up to those developments, and where they want the company to go in the future. Focus on that, and then when you find something interesting to write about find the part of the report that elaborates on that point and do your comparisson.
Suggestion #2: The primary audience of every annual report ever written in the history of business is the company's stockholders, so that part of the assignment confuses me a little. I'm guessing your teacher wants you to determine what subset of stockholder's is it targeted at, or if there is another stakeholder in the company that there is a strong message to (eg., the employees, the government, the community, etc.).
Suggestion #3: Find at least one example in your comparisson that applies something you've learned/recently discussed in class.
so essentially its pretty much a place to gather and have discussion about random topics/happenings
that the jist of it
if so its a pretty cool concept
Yeah, Its pretty much awesomeness, even if you don't post too frequently, like me, I still talk to a few of the posters frequently, and tend to read what goes on

had a crappy dream last night - my father died while we were on a ferry to take him back to see his childhood hometown. Omna, IIRC he grew up not far from where you are now. Newburgh has changed a lot, but he went back about 10 years ago and saw his old house subdivided into apartments and his yard paved over and turned into a parking lot. He went to Syracuse for 2 years, Columbia for 2 years, then attended 1 year grad biology at U Michigan before dropping out to serve in the Army and from there to Boeing.
I should call him tonight, sometimes when I have dreams like that some aspect of them turns out to be true.

I hope that nothing too horrible results from this . I have some knowledge of dream interpretation, and from the sound of it, It could mean anything from something pretty bad that happened to him or something that has happened involving him that is harmful to you, or that there is some unresolved issue between the two of you.
Anyways, good luck ;).

The concept here is to get Enduring Renewal into play as quickly as possible. Telling Time and Court Hussar help search it out. With Renewal in play, Calciderm becomes a threat your opponent can't ever deal with. By not paying the off-color mana, Court Hussar and Azorius Herald become cheap lifegain and card drawing each turn. Fetters, Wrath, and the creatures stall the game and Take Posession deals with troublesome non-creature permanents or late-game bombs. Ressurection gets back early creatures in the graveyard or anything dumped by the Renewal. Finally, the Weirding evens the information playing field and completely locks the opponent down when combined with all the lifegain. To make it even more evil, Court Hussar's ability doesn't draw so it ignores Weirding, as does Telling Time.
So far I'm happy with how it's playing. Any suggestions or comments? I'm thinking of moving 1-2 Weirdings to the SB because the deck usually doesn't need the lock anyway and can find it fast enough if necessary. The SB can bring them in to fight Krosan Grip & Co. I'm not sure what to put in instead, though. I definitely don't need more Resurrections or Take Posessions.
@FLCL: I called in and paid my eight bucks for my grades.
@Kraj: I like the deck. Except I would take out two Zur's Weirding and add two Azorius Guildmages. The deck needs a better stall tactic than Wrath of God.
I'm going to see Transformers tonight. Anyone else going to see it?
The Type 2 forums frighten me, so I'll continue to chit chat on deck ideas with my buddies here.
So I'm tinkering with a new deck that I'm planning on taking to FNM. Take a look:

I would run Nacromoeba. With Weirding, its either into your hand or into play. With Renewel it just goes into play. Also, add some black and swap Ressurection for Dread Return. That way it does not matter if they mill it or not, and the Flashback cost is moot. Swap one Caliciderm for an Akroma.
Hey folks. Just got back from seeing Transformers, and I gotta say.. A+. PERFECT JOB adapting the original show. So many past shows have been ruined by a film.. it's great to see this one done right. Hugo Weaving did a great job as Megatron, even though the original voice actor was slated for the job.
I highly recommend it, if you even have the slightest inkling of an idea that you'd enjoy it. The only people that shouldn't see it? People who hate Transformers. Everyone else? Go! Shoo! Off with you!
Now I am off to work. 6 hour shift till midnight again.. ugh.

Grilled is good, especially with spicy/sweet teriyaki sauce on a banana leaf...
hmmm... deja vu.
It's your birthday too?
Okay:
Happy birthday to

and second, ninja pirate how did you get your AP grades already?
Can you check online or did you do the phone thing, or was collegeboard actually responsible and quick in their mailings.
Just dropping by and i'd like to say the name of this thread is Amazingly awesome
Mr. Stuff, that's such great news about Nova! I'm so glad you finally got a response. Seems like your dream of living in Japan is but on the horizon. That's so exciting. I wish you the best!
Yeah. Well, now there are some sparkly birthday threads for y'all.
Oooh, sounds like fun. Especially if you've never seen Rayearth before (which I haven't). Have fun, 49 episodes is quite a bit to watch.
Heh, I got my state check yesterday, too. It took a while, but the timing was great.
I'm glad you're having such a great time. *hug*
Good for you. Sounds like a nice place!
Yay, Kevin got a promotion! Congratulations. Hope you like your new position.
*hug hug*
Anyway, I'll see you all later today!

so essentially its pretty much a place to gather and have discussion about random topics/happenings
that the jist of it
if so its a pretty cool concept
Good luck!
Yep, that's prety much it. It's all about being social and getting to know people. Welcome!

Thanks stuffsy! I got a high grade in recitation in my Law class.

Thanks to guys at aether for the banner

Current favorite Magic card is Time Elemental
So I'm tinkering with a new deck that I'm planning on taking to FNM. Take a look:
4 Enduring Renewal
4 Zur's Weirding
4 Faith's Fetters
2 Resurrection
4 Wrath of God
4 Telling Time
2 Take Posession
4 Azorius Herald
4 Court Hussar
4 Calciderm
Lands
4 Azorius Chancery
2 Nimbus Maze
1 Hallowed Fountain
10 Plains
7 Island

@Kraj: I like the deck. Except I would take out two Zur's Weirding and add two Azorius Guildmages. The deck needs a better stall tactic than Wrath of God.
I'm going to see Transformers tonight. Anyone else going to see it?
I would run Nacromoeba. With Weirding, its either into your hand or into play. With Renewel it just goes into play. Also, add some black and swap Ressurection for Dread Return. That way it does not matter if they mill it or not, and the Flashback cost is moot. Swap one Caliciderm for an Akroma.
I personally like the Ghost Quarter/Flagstones of Trokair engine. For sideboard, I recommend adding some Aven Mindcensors. They mess up alot of decks, and turn Ghost Quarters into Stripmine (almost). You tend to fill peoples grave, so Tormod's Crypt in the side is a good idea.
4 Enduring Renewal
2 Zur's Weirding
4 Faith's Fetters
2 Dread Return
4 Wrath of God
4 Telling Time
4 Azorius Herald
4 Court Hussar
3 Calciderm
1 Akroma, Angel of Wrath
4 Nacromoeba
Lands
4 Flagstones of Trokair
4 Ghost Quarter
3 Hallowed Fountain
3 W/B Shock Dual
2 Dimir Aquaduct
2 Azorius Chancery
3 Island
3 Plains
I highly recommend it, if you even have the slightest inkling of an idea that you'd enjoy it. The only people that shouldn't see it? People who hate Transformers. Everyone else? Go! Shoo! Off with you!
Now I am off to work. 6 hour shift till midnight again.. ugh.
