Well, I don't know about your people's day, but...
I just call from CDI in Korea saying they are interested in having me go over and teach there, most likely in Seoul. They had tried to e-mail me and the e-mail kept bouncing for some reason. They want me to write a standard TOEFL style essay (just to test standard language and writing skills) and submit that by tomorrow. Personally, I applied to this job as a backup since I really want to go to Japan, but hell, it's still awesome. If it works out, I get signed up for a one year contract to go and teach English in what is basically an expensive/prep school in South Korea somewhere.
I really need to get crackin' on applying to those Japanese jobs so these people don't think I'm just stringing them on by asking for more time.
WHHEEEEE. Ureshii daioh. Sugoku ureshii!
(I have a habit of using Japanese when I'm excited)
Now to sit down and work on that essay. *gets to work*
I've been good. I just decided to give myself a break from sitting in front of the computer and decided to just start reading more and swimming and whatever. Nothing has gone wrong I just felt like I needed some sort of break from MTGS for a while.
I'm glad to see that everyone is good here.
Lol, you sound just like me. Maybe its junior year or something that just makes you want to go outside and take a break from stuff. I've just not felt connected to MTGS or the 'House recently, and I've had no real urge to post here. Anyway, if you read this, how did the end of your year go, Evan? Did APs and finals go ok?

Hey folks, just dropping in with some good news: Heather, my long-distance girlfriend of 2.5 years, has told me that she and her family are looking for a place in Tennessee to move to--All they need to do is find a place they can afford that allows pets. I am, needless to say, ecstatic. Not only will it mean she's 'local', but it'll also mean I'll be able to finally see her. Pray that she is able to find a location in my town, or at least within 1 hour's distance.
Today I work a full 9 hours at Wal-Mart.. 2pm-11pm. On Monday, their fourth busiest day. Whoopee. I get Wednesday off, so I will assuredly post Regular of the Week then.
@Job
Knowing me I'll put off the essay as long as possible, unfortunately, and they want it *today*. So, I'm doing it as soon as I get off work. It's actually inspired me to write the cover letter I need for the Japanese jobs. Hopefully I can get them both done in one sitting, or at least both done today.
After I get the essay(s) done, I haven't got a chance to watch Birth or Dominion Tank Police, the two DVDs I got at CollossalCon yet, so I'll probably just relax and watch one of those. I am very excited though.

I can still make it through Rythm&Police on foot, but nowhere near as well as I could in the past.

So here's a subject that's never been brought up in the 'House: mafia. After seeing it come up a lot in SYM I decided to see what the fuss was about and I became intrigued with the game. I was able to get into a game in progress and I'm enjoying it so far. If anyone is interested, my game now has a whopping five inactive players who may need to be replaced, so if anyone is interested in trying mafia, send a PM to Diggy.

I think you deserve a girlfriend, Kevin. Everyone has someone out there for them.
And I get 2 15 min breaks and an hour lunch, so I'm only WORKING 7.5 hours.
Wow, Mr. Stuff, that news is awesome! Hopefully you'll still have a computer if you get to go?

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
Hey Kraj, can you explain the whole concept of mafia?? Is it like an RP thing, or what???
Anyway, I'm staggering in with a cup of coffee, its now 8:50am, and Mom got me up early to ensure I'd be up for noon which is when she'll be home to pick me up for a Vocational Rehabilitation appointment today at 1pm... I also need to read up on the material for this week's lesson in Communicating in Business, my online course... And of course work on my thesis... Plus I want to play some more of DragonQuest VIII Its an addicting game, and now I'm in Port Prospect... Just encountered Jessica there, and now that I've rested up at the Inn and resurrected Yangus, I'm almost ready to join her in fighting the sea monster.. I'm assuming that's the next boss.... What's w/ the water bosses in this game?? So I'll probably pick that up sometime soon....
Lessee now... I'm tired.... Only got about 7 hours of sleep night before last, and last night only roughly 8 hours... so I'm tired.. I'm hoping this coffee perks me up.... *goes to the kitchen and toasts a bagel for myself* Anyone want one?? [/parody D&D newgrounds movie]
Alacar, rough about the long shifts, but hey, great on the fact that Heather may move! And since you have your license, you can probably travel shorter distances to see her and stuff.... I'm knowin' the feeling about LD...
I'm also pretty sure I haven't congratulated Stuff on the possible job offer... and I seem to remember you handing in a resignation letter at your job... did you take that back or did you find another job to tide you over until the dream Japanese/Korean job come in?
I probably should take a shower pretty soon, start to get ready and try to read up in my textbook for Communicating in Business.....
Has anyone read the Star Wars novel, Tatooine Ghost?? I just bought it yesterday with my dad, and I realized I really do want to get started in reading the Star Wars books again.... I now know the order of the books chronologically in the Star Wars Universe, according to the book I have now, and there's a ton of books I need to read, though I must admit not as many as I last thought... I love Timothy Zahn's Star Wars books (though his other books are probably just as good) and turns out he's written around 5 books more since the last time I read a Star Wars book around 1998 or so... Didn't realize how much I missed that series until I started talking to you guys, and Ryan about it again....
Also, I picked up an interesting looking book the other day as well, called Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (I think, I may have screwed up the title) and its this huge black book with a bajillion pages, a very plain black and white cover, and I got it for 7 bucks at Barnes & Noble.... pretty good deal for a hardback.... Anybody heard of it? So many people I've seen reading it, there's gotta be someone in here who's read it..... I hope my 7 bucks was well spent... Looks fairly interesting, a magician tale set in London in the 1800's or somethin' like that... author's Susanna Clarke... any relation to Arthur C. Clarke, I wonder... Probably not, but these days with a bunch of authors spawning genius kids who follow in their footsteps, you never know. Such as Carol Higgins Clark, daughter of Mary Higgins Clark, she's now apparently written 9 mystery books starring the detective Regan Reilly... I read around three or four of them, and apparently there's a new one out. Need to check up on that, see what ones I'm missing.
Also finally got my hands on a copy of Joseph Campbell's "A Hero with a Thousand Faces".. which i desperately needed for my Senior Thesis... However, I've read only a couple pages so far and its rather dry reading thus far.. I'm not sure if I should read the whole thing, which admittedly would probably benefit me a great deal, as that is the core work that my thesis will be, and should revolve around.... However, its also, like I said, very dry reading and honestly at this point I would much rather read the new Star Wars book or even Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell...
What did you all do with your dads/children for Fathers' Day yesterday?? I went to see the new Fantastic Four movie, Rise of the Silver Surfer... Interesting movie, pretty good.. and we went to Arbys for lunch (I paid.. yea, cheap.. it was still 11 bucks for two people tho, I remember when it used to be cheaper!) I also got him the new Einstein biography...it looks pretty good and its a nice looking book, brandnew from Barnes & Noble. In the morning I called Ryan's Dad and wished him a Happy Fathers' Day.. they were grilling for lunch... I went there for Father's Day last year, and it was great... that was when i got to meet Ryan's older sister for the first time, and Ryan's older brother made the effort to sign "Cheese" to me about my burger that day, then we all played Sequence... it was a fun time Kinda made me wish I could be there.
I actually really wanted to play chess or some other games with my dad... Used to do that all the time, but unfortunately he was just not really that interested in it.... It was kind of a shame..... I just feel kind of robbed of that family game experience really, since my mom's always working, or if she's not working, out with her boyfriend (which isn't a bad thing, he's a great guy, but yea, it does get a little lonely) ... so we don't really go out much or play games at home much.. we have tons of games, but just... nobody really plays 'em.. I made the effort, I packed up my nice wooden chessboard (its big) and the pieces, brought out Trivial Pursuit, Book-opoly (Monopoly involving books ... you buy libraries and bookstores!), Scrabble, Boggle... But we just did our usual thing... Go to lunch, go to Barnes & Noble (which is definitely not a bad thing!), and to the movie... But I really miss playing games, and now that Ryan and I aren't able to play chess or other fun games anymore (well except online and we haven't tried that yet), I really am kind of missing it.... I still can play videogames and that still makes me happy, but I miss playing active games with people...
It just kind of makes me wistful and kinda jealous when I hear about families like Ryan's, who play games all the time.... they play fun games together and they optionally choose to do it, not just one person pressuring the rest to... also, you have to remember, I'm an only child, so I don't have many kids of my own age to hang out with and play since most of my friends went off to college or moved away, to like, California or northern Oregon... It just isn't as fun here as it used to be.. I'm out in the boondocks too, I mean, I can walk down to the store and stuff, but this is a really small town with nothing really entertaining except for the post office, bar and video rental place... So yea, its kinda lonely..
Also, yesterday with my dad, my leg started to give out again, so my dad saw it for the first time, and i told him it was cuz i didn't really have a good heating pad and also haven't been to the chiropractor since before I left school (about a month and a half now)... Last night before I went to sleep, my leg was spasming a bit.. not jerking out like it used to, but the quad leg muscle was tightening and stuff like it used to when the injury was pretty fresh.... Its not that big a deal, but yea its not that great for me when it gives out in the parking lot of the movie theater... I can usually control it but most of the time when that randomly happens, I can't really.
Anyway, I've rambled quite a bit... Sorry about that.. I always end up not posting for a day or two and then I have this humongous post to make
EDIT: !! Hello to both Evan and KoolKoal! Welcome back, friends.. Can I get you fellas anything?
I stole the roommate's car for a day yesterday and went to play Magic. First time I've touched the cardboard in a year. Had fun, went 2-2, saw old friends who thought I'd died or moved away...did a little trading.
Fun, invigorating, and makes me feel alive again to interact with others.
Anyhoo, gonna try to make it again soon, but no guarantees since it costs so much for gas and whatnot.
Gee Omna, you'd rather read Star Wars over Joseph Campbell? What a shock!
Mafia is a funky game; it kinda makes my head spin. The basics are: you have a number of players, about 3/4 of them are "town" and 1/4 are "mafia". The goal is for each side to elminate the other. The mafia players know who is mafia and who is town, but the town players only know about themselves and no one else. Every player has a vote, and a player gets elminated whenever there is a majority vote on that person. The basis of the votes is nothing more than what people say throughout the game and what you deduce from their behavior. For a town player, it's about reading people and noticing patterns, making comments desinged to elicit responses and analyzing those responses, and so on. For a mafia player, the skill is manipulating the town into voting for another town player without getting caught as mafia.
The games are more complicated than that (various players can have special abilities, once a player gets voted out the mafia get to have their own secret vote to eliminate nother player, etc.) but that's the basics.

Alacar: Thats really exciting. I hope that works out. I'm sure that would make you really, really happy to be able to see her. Plus her "old boyfriend" thing you talk about sometimes will be less of an issue if it still is :).
Thanks.. I really hope she can. As for her "old" boyfriend... he wasn't her old boyfriend. She just had sex with him.
Alacar, rough about the long shifts, but hey, great on the fact that Heather may move! And since you have your license, you can probably travel shorter distances to see her and stuff.... I'm knowin' the feeling about LD...
I'll be okay.. as soon as I get home from the shift. Tomorrow I only work 4 hours. And Wednesday I have off
As for the move.. if she makes it ANYWHERE in Tennessee, I'll be able to visit her without much of a fuss. If that is the case, I'll just be able to store $100 away for a good visit. The closer she is, the cheaper it is.
As for Star Wars novels: The Zahn Trilogy is one of the best I've read. Mara Jade is the single most awesome non-filmed character ever, especially when you read the Thrawn Duology afterwards, Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future--with one of the greatest moments in Star Wars I've seen since Han and Leia kissed in the Falcon
Bad news. the power Supply on my computer finally gave out last night. It has been giving me trouble for over a year, but last night when I went to the store it died. I was back five minutes later and my computer was off, and will not turn on again. I really can't afford this crap right now. why is all the expensive stuff happenning to me all at once?
Wow, that really sucks to hear, Sakura Keep a positive mindset though, and everything will turn out okay
But on happier news, congratulations to Florida for the 800th post! for you, my friend! Would you like a drink with that?
Law & Order isn't on today! Just a marathon of the Closer.. baaaaaah. But oh well, I suppose I should do some reading of my book for class instead. Take care, folks!
What I did for Father's Day? Nothin'. My dad died shortly after my mother did, but in his case it isn't something I'm sad about =)
I've been doing a lot of reading up today on masculism and the men's rights movement. It's very uplifting in a lot of ways, knowing that there are multitudes of men around the world who see things the same way I do. I could be developing another hobby.
Pupitars take forever to evolve. Also, I want a frosty float. That is all.
YAY! I am all finished... handed in my report an hour before the deadline (I like cutting it close...although not as close as it has been a couple of times before!) And so now I have officially finished University. Yay!
I find out on the 5th July if I actually passed... we shall see!

Child: Is this gonna hurt? Doctor: Only if God hates you.
Congrats Ophina. I know I was kind of misty-eyed the whole final week of the quarter I graduated. I made some awesome memories with friends that week, though, so it was fun, and one of my best memories from college.
@Alacar:
Great news for you too, eh? Awesome! I wish you and her the best.
@Sakura:
Well, poo. Maybe some of our good luck will rub off on you this week and you'll get that promotion you've been wanting. Here's to hoping.
@Father's Day:
I'm lucky enough to still have my father, although he's a drifter, divorced from my mother since I was a child, and I hardly ever see him. I called him up for the first time in several months yesterday and left a message on his machine letting him know I missed him, and that even though I only get to see him maybe once a year or so, he's still my dad and I still love him. He called me back later Sunday night, and we had a wonderful long discussion about my job prospects, his job, and just life in general. He works as a construction foreman for Walmart now, traveling around and supervising the plumbing aspect of building new locations all around the eastern seabord. Quite a step up from a two-room father-son plumbing shop in the middle of a hick town in southern Ohio, and with no college education to boot. He apologized for missing christmas and graduation and such, and we talked about how his parents were doing. Very touching stuff, left me feeling all warm inside, and I'm glad I made that call.
@My job:
Yes, I did make a big deal about quitting my current job a while back. What I did was tell them I was leaving in a few weeks. The idea was to put pressure on myself, since I'd be without health insurance, to help kick me in gear to get applications out. However, it didn't quite work, and I ended up feeling pitiful and afraid more than anything, so I just kept on working, and they didn't say a word to me about it. Smart move - I still have health insurance, and I'm not eating up savings on car insurance and student loans. The job still sucks, and I still hate it, but I realized I was just sort of taking the easy way out by quitting without finding another job first. I'd like to think I'm made of sterner stuff than that.
Now, I'm having the same sort of motivation problem (namely, being afraid) regarding getting things done that plagued me in college. I just sort of let a fear of assignments or big changes build up, until I just put it off or do anything (and I mean anything) I can to avoid it. That is a REALLY bad and annoying habit, and I REALLY need to break myself of it if at all possible. Case in point - right now, I'm working on the essay CDI wants me to have in by today. I'm a hundred words into it, and it's cake, but I just have a really hard time making myself do it, even though I know it's important. Heck, I'm pretty sure this post is almost half as long as the essay itself is supposed to be. It's not doing it that's hard for me, it's making myself do it.
I am pretty sure I will get the promotion. Last month we were the worst team on the floor and this month we are almost the best team in North America. I am showing a major impact that they cannot ignore.
Well, more good news. I've surprised myself and finished my essay on time. I just sent it out to the folks at CDI a few minutes ago.
To celebrate, I'm popping in Shirow Masamune's Dominion Tank Police while I finish this Dr. Pepper and relax a little bit. I'll see if I feel like writing my cover letter for NOVA (a Japanese teaching school) later tonight.

She knows why.
I think you deserve a girlfriend, Kevin. Everyone has someone out there for them.
And I get 2 15 min breaks and an hour lunch, so I'm only WORKING 7.5 hours.

Alacar: Thats really exciting. I hope that works out. I'm sure that would make you really, really happy to be able to see her. Plus her "old boyfriend" thing you talk about sometimes will be less of an issue if it still is :).

Fun, invigorating, and makes me feel alive again to interact with others.
Anyhoo, gonna try to make it again soon, but no guarantees since it costs so much for gas and whatnot.

I find out on the 5th July if I actually passed... we shall see!

@Alacar:
Great news for you too, eh? Awesome! I wish you and her the best.
@Sakura:
Well, poo. Maybe some of our good luck will rub off on you this week and you'll get that promotion you've been wanting. Here's to hoping.
@Father's Day:
@My job:
Wish me luck.
To celebrate, I'm popping in Shirow Masamune's Dominion Tank Police while I finish this Dr. Pepper and relax a little bit. I'll see if I feel like writing my cover letter for NOVA (a Japanese teaching school) later tonight.
