Hey bloodydoves! It's nice to see you back again. How are you?
Now, some catching up . . .
Quote from Omna15 »
Photon, Ether and Mamelon, its good to see you all again... Mamelon, you're here more than the other two, but your absence is certainly noticed... We miss you three!
My internet activity has been really low lately, but it's picking up somewhat.
Quote from Lily »
I'm really happy for you though Mamelon specifically, it seems like things are going great for you To be honest though, I feel a little left in the dust, but hey, its my own fault I'm not making progress.
Yeah, I know what that's like. it's really hard when you're young. Even in my case, it may be some time before I make any major progress. But we gotta hang in there!
Quote from Faerie Lord »
Other than that, I somewhat agree with your viewpoints. Though, a personal question, feel free not to answer it. Are you an atheist or not. Your post seems to imply that you beleive though it also implies that you do not want to follow any religion. Correct me if wrong.
No, sweetie, I'm not an atheist. Like I was saying before, I feel it very hard to pick one available system of beliefs and subscribe only to it. Rather, it only seems natural to me for there to be some overlap.
As for which religious communities I participate in, it'd be hard to say. I guess I couldn't exactly identify as being in any of them at this point, as my social interaction is fairly limited. Perhaps I'm just going with the outsider position I'm so used to being in, or perhaps I feel like there needn't be really sharp lines between these communities.
Same here. Though our Mr Stuff has a cunning plan
Hee hee. *rubs hands together*

Yes I'm still waiting for bloody transformers to appear on the cinema listings, is'nt england great, yes sarcasm is detected!!!
Hello, Little. I was wondering where you were! By the way, congratulations on being Regular of the Week a while back!
@Karmah: Hello, and welcome to the Coffeehouse. I'm Mamelon. How goes it?
Quote from Alacar »
Heya Karmah. Get with me and Sakura and we'll tie you down and have some funinterview you for the position. I'm sure you'll do fine.
Oh, uck, bad joke. Ack.

LOL.
I know I'm not going to be a waitress. Don't ask me.
Now, tending the bar, maybe.

On a good note, my roommate is enrolled in a German choir and they need a female contralto backup so maybe I'll do that instead. Bach Bach Bach! (Who am I kidding? I have ZERO voice training.)
Well, hey, I wish you well in any case!

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Of course Shadowfox, it's my preferred term of address (or Adam, since the Coffeehouse is relaxed like that, and it's my real name).
@Mr. Stuff: Ah, makes FAAAR more sense to me now. With all that in mind, I wish you only the best of luck, and sincerely hope you get to go and live your dream. It's something far too few people get to do these days, and it's a moment that echoes throughout your life if you can achieve it. Go for it, and take my good thoughts with you (for what it's worth anyhow).

If only there were words in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of Men to describe the level of my agreement with this entire paragraph (as I find myself in the same place, and so I finally made up a term to describe my faith: Clockmaker).
Post those two lines in Introduce Yourself, and you'll soon have a small army to follow you around Salvation.
Is this another one of those positions I didn't get because I wouldn't sleep with the person in charge? I don't know, first it's the SoapOperaHouse, now this... I should obviously be more virtually promiscuous.
And dear heavens, don't get me started on the Japanese (ok, maybe not wholly Japanese) penchant for panty shots... It just annoys me sometimes that an otherwise normal anime will throw those in there for no reason. And then there are those special ones that need a PPM (Pansu Per Minute) count down at the bottom... My friends from college and I had a game one time where we tried to count the number of panty shots in Agent Aika. I think we got up to around 150 by the time it was done. About 70 of those were in one fight sequence.
Yeah.. now that you mention it.. panties everywhere..
Arguas dear, they kind of took over the place when I was gone for a few weeks and Alacar's been having a little too much fun with them.... at least they try to use the Dimir blankets... though it doesn't always work, and we end up with a few glimpses of stuff we really don't want to see...... (See Sakura's sig for example) -_- (I do wonder how PurpleD feels about the illicit use of the blankets tho :p)
Anyway, last night Ryan and I did webcam together..and it was rather interesting... I'm not entirely sure what to think about it... It was wonderful to see him face-to-face again, and finally be able to sign with him again, but at the same time it seemed a bit restricting and a little awkward... but... I'm not sure if that's just cuz its new or if its something to be concerned about... I don't know... just something I'm wondering about I guess....... oh well at least I'll talk to him later today about it...
Yes, well it can get awkward when you get lag flashing your coffeebreasts on a webcam. And no, Sakura and I do not use Dimir Blankets: We DO use a Bullwhip sometimes.
O_O So, we just go and allow Alacar to abuse his role... kind of sad, Omna... Oh well, it seems to work.
And you know that things are getting scary when the Dimir Blankets are being used to conceal job interviews. And apparently Photon's jacuzzi. And all while failing to conceal much smaller visual events. At this point, I'm declaring a need for a Cloak of Invisibility. On top of the Dimir blankets.
Next time, Alacar, think of the children. I'd rather Coffeebreasts not turn into Hooters. Completely.
Seriously. Halfway seriously. Something. Funny. That crawls along...
<_< >_> Like Photon.
Erm.. not sure what you were talking about in that last bit, but them Little Girls shouldn't even be on MTGS. We have fully grown women here. And the Coffeehouse is not Hooters--it can't be. At least not until Sakura makes an avatar of her wearing orange hotpants.
So.... you call Alacar childish... and you spend three paragraphs on pokemon.....RIIIIGHT. Way to go there. :xd: (Not like I disagree or anything though, that Alacar guy really needs to grow up some )
This is something I expected of Alacar, to be honest. <_< Rawr innuendo rawr.
Actually, there was a time in which a common waffle iron could sway the masses under threat of pain and suffering. Sadly, the powers of malice and wicked intent just don't buy you the same respect they once did...
We still fear and respect you Photon. It's just that the numbness from your previous iron-usage has made it less effective.
Oh please. We all know the only person here who has any real power of us is Mamelon. Ryan and Danica are great and all, but M-Lon has an official cult.
Also, in a bit of news, I am now officially a bigger nerd than even Alacar (but I think Mr. Stuff may still have me beat). In addition to replacing my MTG dorkyness with Pokemon dorkyness, Nai is making me a WPL for the new Pokemon WP. It's a good thing I already have a guy, or otherwise I would be pretty much marooned in the Virgin Islands for the rest of my life, if you know what I mean.
Also, it is good to see a little light conversation here again. I was beginning to think this place was turning into a secondary blog section on the site.
Edit: OMG, I see Joyd lurking.
DAVE, I TREASURE YOUR FRIENDSHIP!!!!! [/teamamerica]
LOL nice quote.
Yeah, it's good to see all this conversation again, and so many older members returning!
And yes.. I think a Pokemon WP makes you nerdier than I. Congratulations, Photon Eater, you are the bigger geek between us.
*shudders* Eek! not the waffle iron. I still have scars from waffle iron-induced beatings. Geez, between your physical abuse and Blue's sexual harassment, it's a wonder why I still come to this site
Whew. Caught up. So much posting. I'm sure someone's posted by the time I finished this.
Not quite, but close-ish. :xd:
Bah, I have deck stuff to do (making a pair of 100-card artifact-based decks out of a single, 200-card, also artifact-based deck... yes, I'm nuts, but that's why I'm vaguely interesting :D)
Sigh. Wow, typing that last post up was kinda emotional for me; sort of a cathartic release of all this tension I've been building up over the last year. It just hit me all of a sudden when I was typing that - I'm actually doing it. I'm not just talking about "you know, one day when the stars align and the wind blows right, maybe I'd like to do this...". I'm making it happen. It's an amazing thing. *blubber*
I'm ready to head home and type up this here special edition of AotW, so somebody better have posted between now and the time I get it done. I'll see you coffeebeans in a bit.
I guess that covers introductions for now. Oh, talking point (should anyone care or like to know): I'm heading to college in Texas soon, on a full scholarship... yay! Gonna be loads of fun.
So, how is the shop this fine afternoon?
Nice to know more about you for the house Adam. Welcome
No, that was my girlfriend for a long time ... Kinda had problems with that one. One day she just up and disappeared. I don't know what happened to her, and i really don't like to think of what -might- have happened. Seriously, she was in a relationship with an abusive guy, that wouldn't leave her alone, even when she said she was taken.
Either way, everything worked out for the best. Since that time i've taken a couple leaps.
Oh Im sorry to hear that. Well its very nice to meet you priest.
Luxray is okay. It isn't the absolute best there is, but there are very few Pokemon that are uniformly good. Each has it's own strengths and weaknesses. I would DEFINITELY not replace Luxray with Pikachu, though.
If you want to look at which Pokemon are generally considered the best in their respective categories, look at the Overused (OU) list here.
@Hunter: Well, if you're determined to have an electric-type pokémon in your party, stick with Luxray for now. There isn't a lot to go around in terms of pre-national electric types, so you're spoiled for choice a little there. Although I will recommend that you try and get yourself a Mareep or even a Chinchou once you do have the national 'dex. They're both great pokémon.
Electric? I would say either: Raikou, Jolteon, Zapdos or Electrivire.
Also, a quick apology to all avvy exchangers. I was a bit bogged down with all the packing and such for holiday last night so I just have a few finishing touches to add. I will deffo have them done this evening. (Probably ;))
<_< >_> I don't remember hiring any waitresses... *looks at Omna* do you remember hiring this psycho? Or the cohorts? RIGHT, we DID kind of hire Alacar... but that's not exactly one of the waitresses... right? I'm so confused...
Happened to quote the last part of this conversation. Going back to the initial proposition to replace Luxray with Pika-rat, in talking with some of my friends of the nuances of the game, I have heard that Pikarat ends up with one of the highest special attack power stats in the game when given a light ball, making it a somewhat decent finisher. However, it's lack of speed may prevent you from getting an attack off due to its horribly weak defenses.
Luxray has quite a low defense stat, but usually, it takes a couple of hits to take it down thanks to its quite high HP. It's ATK is also quite high, and most of it's attacks are based on the ATK stat. It's really down to preference I think...
So In conclusion after some hard debates, I should stick with my LUxray for now and hope to get some better electric pokemon later. Thanks guys.
No waitresses? But I'm really really good, I promise, I'm really charming and have good "assets" and I'll work really really hard.
But yes, I am a woman.
Sorry for the lack of introduction,
I'm Steph, I live in Southern Maine, I'm 18, I suck at Magic (figured Id throw that out there) But I want to be better,
uhm. I'm currently between houses and stuff so Im putting off school for a year then i'll jump into night classes, computer engineering,
What else? I work a lot, when Im not working I'm on my computer, playing games usually, Im currently a fan of Guild Wars and Counter Strike: Source. Im debating getting into WoW despite my vehement protests up until this point.
But thats me!
Hi guys
*waves*
Im always impressed at women who play counter strike and kills male players along with her. Im very glad to meet you steph. And computer engineering? Wow.
Is anyone else as excited about the Harry Potter book release as I am? I've forgotten everything that's happened so far, so I've been trying to catch up before tomorrow night.
It looks like PurpleD and Priest came back while I was gone. Nice to see you guys again.
Hey JOYD!!! How are ya!? Nice to see you post again.
Is anyone else as excited about the Harry Potter book release as I am? I've forgotten everything that's happened so far, so I've been trying to catch up before tomorrow night.
It looks like PurpleD and Priest came back while I was gone. Nice to see you guys again.
YES. I just finished re-reading the 6th book like 10 minutes ago, so now I'm totally ready for the next one. Oh man, it's going to be intense. Extremely dark and depressing, most likely, but awesome nonetheless. I hope to finish it by Sunday.
Hello... I'm new around here, but I'm a lover of coffe, so I think I might just end up as a regular or casual costumer.
Hm... something to share about me... I'm 16, going on 17 in three weeks, I live in Colombia and I'm a physics geek. I also play the guitar and do Vocals for my band. If you'd like to get to know me or talk, send me a PM. I'll be happy to answer.
I was wondering if anyone around here was still in vacation... I'm the only one with a calendar similar to the US ones, so I'm starting a new year (my senior one) this August, as opposed to the rest of the country, who start and end their school years on January. I'm not sure what school will demand of me, specially with AP Phys, AP Calc, AP English, VHS, and such courses... I'm kinda nervous, since I need to get good grades and get my SAT scores higher (I got a 1350 on my first shot, but I need +1500 for a full tuition in the states)... any advice?
Edit: That's right... um... since you guys don't have Coke in here, I'd like a cup Hot Chocolate, please. Thanks.
"All these people having fun are playing for a gigantic 40000$ award, while I'm here sweating, players asking me stupid layer questions we all hate, and I'm thirsty.
Oh I'm definitely excited for the Harry Potter book too!!! (I shake my fist at those folks who are doing spoilers on the intarwebs! argh!)I'm going to be trying to finish my thesis before I read the book though... but after tomorrow night, that's gonna be hard cuz I'm going to obviously want to read the book The next part of my thesis is due Wednesday so hopefully I can read it after that... Anyway, I hope everyone's doing well.. I'm hoping to start a bit of my paper tonight then going to bed after I finish this glass of wine.. Tomorrow is going to be working on this stuff for most of the day, and learning to drive, as well as chatting w/ Ryan for a bit about OGS I can't wait hehe... Tonight we had a lot of fun talking bout the Omega boss for FF5.... kind of interesting to learn about
Speaking of which, what do you guys think about FF3? Is it worth picking up for the DS? I really miss an old fashioned RPG, and if I could get one for the DS, that'd be awesome since that seems to be all i have time for these days... when the next part of my thesis is done, I hopefully can continue DQ8 and Kingdom Hearts... I really want to FINISH Kingdom Hearts (first one) before I go back for the school year, since I most likely won't have a TV.. that might not be possible tho we'll see though!
Uriel Coleridge! Any relation to the poet? Sorry, literature geek there.. *Serves you your hot chocolate* we do have Coca-cola too, by the way, if you want that next time
While I'm at it.. *Serves Dreia her cranberry juice, then sets back down on the couch with my wine, and begins working, with Janus' laptop :p*
Aww. No need to feel sketchy, BD. You helped me put up this.
*waves hello to Uriel*
Welcome to a special edition of AotW, folks. Tonight we'll be looking at two very different, and yet oddly similar films by two equally different masters of Japanese animation, in a segment we'll call...
ANIME OF THE WEEK
Special Edition: AotW Goes to the Movies
First up, we have:
Movie: Metropolis
Genre: Sci-Fi, Drama
Created by: Osamu Tezuka
Set in the future, Metropolis is a grand city-state populated by humans and robots, the cohabitants of a strictly segmented society. Amidst the chaos created by anti-robot factions, detective Hunsaku Ban and his sidekick Ken-ichi are searching for rebel scientist Dr. Laughton. But when they locate him, his secret laboratory is destroyed by fire under sinister circumstances, and instead Ken-ichi finds Tima, a beautiful young girl bereft of memory and speech, seemingly helpless at the site. Little does he know that Tima is a new top-of the-line android created to take over Metropolis, and that behind her creation lie the ambitions of a powerful man and his fierce desire to reclaim a tragic figure from his past. (From ANIDB)
Metropolis is the brainchild of the legendary Osamu Tezuka, one of the founding fathers of Japanese animation. His most famous works include Astro Boy, Black Jack, Ribon no Kishi, and Kimba the White Lion. Why should you see it? Even to date, it has some of the most gorgeous structural and scale drawings you will find in all of anime. The panning scenes (which pan out... and out... and out...) in this film are truly a sight to behold, and give you an amazing sense of how huge the city in the film really is. The CGI used to create them doesn't disappoint, and the blending of CGI and traditional animation is done exceedingly well. This film is visually a work of art, and is an example of one of Tezuka's finest pieces in that regard. The story is fair, but it doesn't take center stage here - watch this one for the eye candy.
Next up:
Movie: Appleseed
Genre: Sci-Fi, Action
Created by: Shirow Masamune
Deunan Knute is a soldier, rescued from a war she didn't know was long over and brought to the city of Olympus. Olympus is a new paradise on earth, one where humans and Bioroids, artificially created bio-androids, can co-exist in peace. Gaea, a complex computer system in the center of Olympus, controls the day to day life of the city, and makes decisions regarding the citizens' welfare, aided in its tasks by a council of elders. However, when Deunan reunites with her old war friend Briarios and the mystery of her past begins to unravel, she realizes that she was not brought to the city by chance. She may hold the key to unlocking knowledge that could change the fate of Bioroid and Human coexistence, and the future of Olympus, forever.
Shirow Masamune is known for three things - hot women, scads of guns, and kick-ass technology. Witness Ghost in the Shell, his other signature work. Appleseed brings all that to the table and more. Hollywood would be hard pressed to fit some more impressive action sequences into a movie than some of those that Appleseed features. Combine that with a killer soundtrack featuring the Boom Boom Satellites, and you've got a recipe for a fast-paced Sci-Fi action film that hits hard and doesn't let up. Masamune doesn't stop there though. Add in a plot that, while admittedly shaky in parts, brings up important questions about the relationship between robots and humans, and is deep and interconnected enough to entertain, and you have a winning combination. While the original Ghost in the Shell and Innocence were both winners, Masamune goes them one better with Appleseed.
Hmm. Metropolis. So that's the anime adaptation... interesting. Is that particular movie any good Mr. Stuff, I mean as an individual piece? (I'm assuming here that you've seen the original Metropolis by Fritz Lang, which that film is loosely [VERY LOOSELY] based off of).
I know that, I'm just curious if it's worth seeing. I saw and LOVED the original, and have been meaning to get around to seeing the anime, but never got to. Is it worth hunting down and renting?
I have to say I actually own the latter of the two AotW's this week (which is a miracle considering how little money I actually spend on DVD's) and I gotta say it is indeed some great stuff. One of the first anime movies I owned too.
As for Metropolis I hope to pick that one up too but its too far down the priority list right now as other things are rising above it continually. Good to hear it's actually worth it though.
Rawr. I am pissed off and **** now. <_< Great, I have to stay up now, since I can't sleep while angry. Anyone else like that, in that you can't sleep while upset or angered?
I can't usually stay angry for long periods of time, but I think thats a good thing. I generally can't sleep if I have alot of things, albeit about something minute. Also, I can't really get to sleep if I'm all hot and sweaty. Even with my ceiling fan on high, it can be pretty bad. I should see about getting like a mini-fan or something. It's happened a few times recently, but I think thats due to the bug troubles.
Speaking of which, I think thats finally been taken care of. The exterminator guy came by and hopefully got rid of them. I had to swat some the night he came out, but I think that the stuff hadn't taken effect yet. So far, so good.
But for a quick note before bed, y'all... Psychoburner's birthday was today/yesterday (the 19th)!!!!! Wish him a very happy birthday, folks!!! Woooooot!
Also! ONE YEAR AND THREE MONTHS THE COFFEEHOUSE HAS BEEN OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good night everyone.... I need to get up early so that I can work on my thesis, and REALLY work on it before tomorrow night's release of Deathly Hallows!
And I daresay, Arguas came back at the right time.... so many people are making their return AND new people are ocming in and posting frequently... I'm so damn proud of this place!!
Have a wonderful, amazing, absolutely stellar day, folks!!
P.S. I dare ya.... get us up to 1700 posts by the time I wake up
Now, some catching up . . .

Yeah.. now that you mention it.. panties everywhere..
Not sure what her name's gonna be, but I wanna make an avatar of her for Sakura or someone.

That works! But I made up the title of the thread, not Omna, so yeah.. that was me. Ask Ethersphere about the origin of Coffeebreasts.
We need to update our Wiki entry with an entry on coffeeboobs.
Amen, Photon.
Oh, and LOL. Made me laugh aloud in my chair, you crazy kook.
It is. It grants you special access behind the counter. And it grants us special access too.

Ooh! Ooh! I'm on it, if Sakura isn't. Srsly.
Whee Cake! I loves me Cake.
And I'm doing great, Evan! Good to see you around, and congrats on yer anniversary!
Ahem. :embarass:
Congrats, bud! Hope your trip's a good'un.
Yeah.. I know. But hey, it was worth it to see all y'alls reactions.
Whew. Caught up. So much posting. I'm sure someone's posted by the time I finished this.

YES. I just finished re-reading the 6th book like 10 minutes ago, so now I'm totally ready for the next one. Oh man, it's going to be intense. Extremely dark and depressing, most likely, but awesome nonetheless. I hope to finish it by Sunday.

Hm... something to share about me...
Thanks.

Thanks for the link, Mr. Stuff, and the mention for the film. It's a good'un.
I'll be sure to check out Appleseed!
And yes, the movie is very, very, very loosely based off of the original 1927 film.

As for Metropolis I hope to pick that one up too but its too far down the priority list right now as other things are rising above it continually. Good to hear it's actually worth it though.
