Okay, I know I'm stretching a little here, but I wanted to stick to the original team. Pheonix could have fit in a number of categories - she was the incarnation of the life avatar and was pretty extremely powerful. Actually, Pheonix was much more powerful than enduring, so I'll make the switch:
Sure, Murderdolls! You can be a friend - we'll get the front page updated soon. How do you like Dragon Quest VIII?
Which reminds me, I need to stop mincing about and do a damned underdog. Too late today, but perhaps tomorrow. I'm dropping the "weekly" because that obviously doesn't work
With V_N returning, I might as well too.
But I've only been gone for a week...
Well, It appears that my old Clan, The Forum Pirates, has sunk. So I'm in search of a new Clan, I may just have to join this one. I'm not joining yet, because we are still figuring some things out, but I may sometime this week.
Anyway...I nearly beat FF6...Im just getting all the good spells before taking on the bosses, I have level 50 guys.
The machinist, Magitech Elite, Rune Knight, and Sabin, all with the best spells. (Ultima, Flare, Flood, Fir/bliz/thundaga spells)
Great game!
Clan upheaval is on the rise and it looks like Nat20 stands to benefit from the changes. Congrats! It's always a schlep through those inbetween months when sets aren't coming out yet to be on the boards without much other activity.
Yeah, I mean, no offense, but- what the hell? I went away for work this week, and when I came back the Clans forums were all in the throes of change!
Also, @Murderdolls- The old FF vs. DQ debate in our clan is as old as... well, it prefaces the existence of our clan itself, going back to Josh (ethersphere) and Alacar (and myself, I'll admit) squabbling back and forth about the two games. Just as a general warning, the two of us have been known to browbeat FF fans into submission.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
And boy, do I know that. The deadly duo of Josh and Josh even got me reconsidering my FF7-fanboyism. And I am happy to say that I am now completely over FF7. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game. But it's by no means the 'Best game ever'. The best game ever? That's subjective.
On that note, what are your 'best games ever'? RPG or not.
Well... I have to throw in a shameless plug for Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem being one of the best horror games ever. I mean... dang. The first game I ever saw that interacted not only with your character, but with you, the player behind the character. It mocks everything from turning down your TV volume to giving you a "corrupted save" error when you try to save, to giving you a "You win - the game is over." screen only a few hours in. Brilliant work.
If anyone ever doubts the fairness of the mtgs dice rolling program, here's a post that shows that the d20 roller averaged out to 10.47933333 over the course of 3,000 rolls. That's very close to the expected average of 10.5.
"Best game ever..." That's always a tough one for me, but I'll give it a shot.
My most favorite RPGs are numerous, but standing atop a hill of corpses (heh) are Dragon Quest 4, DQ8, Mother 2/Earthbound, Shadow Hearts 2, Xenosaga episode 3, Tales of the Abyss, Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, and Breath of Fire 5: Dragon Quarter. I've gotten into the reasons why many times, so I won't bore anyone with extraneous information =)
As for other genres, I'll have to throw in my vote for Silent Hill 3 in the survival horror genre. It's quite simply the scariest thing you will EVER play - and I don't care how unflappable you are. Something in this game will give you nightmares or make you watch every shadow as you slink through your house at night. Also, the Silent Hill series just has the best story of any survival horror series - there was a lot of painstaking attention to detail and a lot of really great ideas all rolled into one horrific experience. Plus the music is just amazing.
Although I do love Eternal Darkness for the Lovecraftian mischief and the tight combat and magic systems, and I'm loving Rule of Rose for its "morbid faerie tale" approach. They're both winners too, to me.
Underdog on Monday, guys. I know, it's about time. But I've been busy =P
Ok, Im officially joining Natural 20 now. I've posted my resignation from the Forum Pirates and would like to join here.
And as for my favorite games, I would have to say Star Ocean 3, til the end of time. Elder scrolls 4 Oblivion (and expansions) and FF 6 are the best RPG's I have ever played.
I havn't really played any horror games.
I loved all of the LoZ games, but found them WAY too easy...especially Twilight Princess.
RPG or not.
I don't know if I'm lazy or what, but I really wanted to answer this question but was avoiding it.
Then I realised that I don't have a real favorite anything. I mean, ask me when I just came out of a movie that I really liked, and I'll call it my favorite. But that's going to have as much do with my state of mind at the time and whether there was some group of jokers guffawing throughout the whole movie - (I'm looking at you, random group of jokers at the 300 release! :argh:)
So, to answer your question, I can't answer your question. If I call something my favorite anything, it will bother me later when I think about it. But I will say that I'm currently really enjoying
1 Doom:Evilution,
2 Starcraft,
3 Super Smash Brothers Melee,
4 Super Mario World, and
5 Earthbound.
I'm going to regret the permenance that this represents, but I will say this: If I had only those five games, I think I'd be pretty happy. What about you guys?
What games would make your list of the five games you would be happy(/happiest) if that's all you had for the rest of your life?
I have a hard time with my best games ever because the nature of games has changed over time. Here are some of the (video)games I have enjoyed the most. This list was very stream-of-conciousness, and it's likely that I've forgotten some.
Super Mario World, SNES
ToeJam and Earl, Genesis
Pokemon Series, Game Boy
Final Fantasy VI, SNES
Super Mario Kart Series, Nintendo Consoles
Super Smash Bros. Series, Nintendo Consoles
Civilization Series, especially Civ II, PC
World of Warcraft, PC
Donkey Kong Country, SNES
Master of Orion II, PC (The other games are decent, but not nearly good enough to make my list.)
Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3, Genesis
Starcraft & Warcraft III, PC (Warcraft II was a little early for me to appreciate it; by the time I played it, Starcraft was already on the scene, so even though WCII is a fine game, it's not something that's anywhere close to list-worthy.)
Gauntlet II, NES (The Early Gauntlet games are all very similar, but I owned Gauntlet II for the longest, so I remember it the best.)
Mega Man Series, Nintendo systems
Legend of Zelda and Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, NES and SNES
Mischief Makers, N64 (Probably the biggest underdog on this list. Probably the biggest underdog of all time if you ask me.)
Earthbound, SNES
Dr. Mario, NES
I love RPG games. Why, then, are FFVI and Earthbound the only traditional console RPGs to make my list? (I've played dozens of RPG games.) Flatly put, I don't have the same fond memories of playing most RPG games as I do of playing the games actually on the list. Most of the ones that I do remember have mulitplayer capability, which certainly contributes to memorable times. Also, for me at least, RPG games tend to have far less replay value than a platformer. (They're also much, much easier in the sense that most of their gameplay time comes from either grinding time or sheer bulk of content rather than from actually having parts that are difficult to get through. When I finally beat, say, Quick Man in MM2, it felt like an accomplisment because the only way to beat him if you can't is to improve at the game. If you can't beat an RPG boss and you go and grind or finally one try get more critical hits while he gets more misses, it feels like less of an achievement. At the risk of offending everyone here, I'd even go so far as to say that while RPG gamers tend to be the more cerebral types, the games tend to take far less skill than platformers do.)
Why is the list dominated by older games? Well, I've gone back and played some of the games, and many of them don't hold up as well as they do in my memories (although most do.) When I was younger, though, I was more 'about' videogames. I wasn't someone who spent all their time playing videogames, but I was just more excited about them in general. (Today, videogames fill more of a role of "Wow, there's nothing to do and nobody's around. Guess I'll play some Jade Empire.") As a result, all of the recent games on the list (defining recent as "ten years") are multiplayer games with the exception of Pokemon.
I've already said a lot about Pokemon in these threads. I can say it again if I need to.
When I spit out the list, I was actually suprised to see fewer RPGs on it. I think that this is because RPGs tend to be less social experiences. Now, obviously most good friends are more memorable than videogames. I remember my friend Mike from elementary school a lot better than any of the games on the list. A big memory I have of Mike, though, is playing ToeJam and Earl on the Genesis. If I had only even played the game as a single-player game, I'd probably still remember it, but not nearly enough for it to make the list. Mario Kart: Double Dash is about staying up until 4 in the morning after Prom while my date - who's driving the kart - keeps falling asleep. Dr. Mario is the only game my mom ever learned to play. (My mom is a pinball champ and expresses great frustration at the fact that the 'bump the table' features of electronic pinball games aren't realistic.)
Honorable mention goes to Halo, because even though I am the single worst Halo player on earth including grandmas, Halo was the centerpiece around which I spend a lot of time with friends in high school.
Alright, added grappler12 as a member. I didn't give you a little tag, because I wasn't feeling witty and my last couple ones have been blowsome.
Favorite game is a hard topic for me, as my tastes have changed pretty dramatically. As an adolescent, I was more satisfied with mid-level franchises like FF and CT, but as an adult I have come to crave and love more in-depth games.
If I had to make a list...
1. Star Ocean 2
2. Valkyrie Profile
3. Final Fantasy VI
4. Shadow Hearts Covenant
5. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
6. Megaman X
7. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
8. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
9. Super Mario Bros. 3
10. Wild Arms 3
Also, I have been thinking- it is about time we do something as a clan again, like a contest or something, or a group project. Any suggestions?

Anyways... would be wonderful if I could join.

It's not a problem... it's just... man. What happened, did some random clan leader get drunk in Hollywood and make a bunch of anti-Semitic comments, or did some clan wind up being a sub-sect of Scientology or something? It seems like everyone is looking for new clans now.
Also, along the lines of your introduction, I feel like maybe we need to actually do some introductions again, maybe get some friendly banter going, get some conversations that are not game-related going.
(Also, I'm glad you have played Koudelka.)

Well, it's just that it took me a while, but no-one had the same intereests as me tbh... I mean, Myrf likes Gears of War... and they like magic (surprise) but that was where the similarities start and end.
If it's a problem, I'm more than understanding...

I say, welcome, Sephy. Another valuable member to N20. Now we have a guy with killer conditioner and a 800-foot-long sword. No, he's not overcompensating. For anything.
I think Nautilus should get ahold of Hiroki Kikuta and do a Koudelka remake before the Ps2 is obsolete or something. I'd love to see the system updated with the same graphics as the Shadow Hearts games and maybe some extra content =)
I'm glad we're getting more new members now, actually. I think N20's been a little slumpy lately, and new people posting will help keep things fresh.

As for a clan competition.. sure, I'd like that.
I sort of feel like the last competition was... complicated, to be honest. It was really very time intensive, so I feel like if we do something of that nature again, it should be something along the lines of a collaborative project that everyone can work on. If it is a contest, it should be something that is relatively simple for people to submit in a day or two.

I sort of like the idea of a contest, as long as it is small. Also, since the last 2 contests were D&D oriented, maybe this next one should be video game oriented.
Edit: Yeah, a Koudelka remake woudl be awesome.. As would a FF7 one... mebi evn (dare I say it?) A FF8 one
My G/F would love an 8 re-make... so don't knock it or she'll hunt you down.
Anyone been playing FF12 recently?
As much as I bash FF, I actually like FFVIII. I haven't played FFXII in a long while. I sort of lost interest in it, and ogling Balthier's cute little butt as I run around Ozmone Plains for days at a time leveling up actually got boring.
DEX: Nightcrawler
CON: Pheonix
INT: Shadowcat
WIS: Lockheed
CHA: Meagan
Okay, I know I'm stretching a little here, but I wanted to stick to the original team. Pheonix could have fit in a number of categories - she was the incarnation of the life avatar and was pretty extremely powerful. Actually, Pheonix was much more powerful than enduring, so I'll make the switch:
STR: Pheonix
DEX: Nightcrawler
CON: Captain Britain
INT: Shadowcat
WIS: Lockheed
CHA: Meagan
One nice thing is that there were exactly six members of the original team, if you don't count widget. (And who does?)
Which reminds me, I need to stop mincing about and do a damned underdog. Too late today, but perhaps tomorrow. I'm dropping the "weekly" because that obviously doesn't work
