I see that, but as Fergalicious pointed out you have to keep people interested for it to work. And if the first few rounds are "clash of the insanely broken decks" people will get tired of it pretty quickly.
It's all up to you, of course. I'm just making suggestions.

That is a very valid point. I am hoping to bring in some form of prize system actually. I just need to figure one out, I doubt I could afford to freely hand out prizes on a weekly basis, yet don't want to charge people. I think best is to allow people to donate stuff if they like, and add other prizes of my own. I might be tempted to put up my prized personalized "Superman" Morphling if things get going well enough. One of the few cards I demanded I keep.
I tried to post last night but the site seemed to go down just as I was submitting . . .
I ended up not getting to sleep until very late last night. It made it hard getting up this morning. Good thing I got off work early.
Yeesh. I need to remember to be careful about discussing Robert Jordan.
I was on another message board talking about a tabletop Wheel of Time Setting. My suggestion was not to make gender a rules restriction, since "gender" is an aspect of reoleplaying and flavor and not a valid mechanical entity. That sure didn't get a good reaction.
It was cleared up, though.
@Snoop's article: I found that very interesting, especially since it was was a large article that was well publicized. One of the most interesting things about it was the posing of a theory about brain-gender forming post-natally. I'm skeptical about the idea they posited, though. Somehow I doubt that breastfeeding a boy baby less and talking to the baby more would contribute to his actually ending up to be a transgirl. Or that breastfeeding a female baby more would contribute to him/her forming the brain of a transboy.
What was also interesting was the way they pointed out that a transsexual's brain is not merely the brain of the "opposite" sex, but unique in its own right as a transgender brain (as opposed to a cisgender one). That's something that often isn't pointed out, but a valid notion. I often wonder how that works. Perhaps there is something to common observations about trans people (and to an extent, gay people), such as their being attracted to spirituality, to games and other creative activities, and to heightened sensitivity. Though common life experiences would perhaps be better explanations for those.
@Soap-Opera: Another winner! It seems to get progressively funner and funner. I love the name Kraj Murderton-Montgomery! And of course . . . Mr. Jenkinsonlair.

I like me some Korean manga. That was a nice touch.
@Sakura: I think in some parts of the US you don't need a legal gender change to change names, or an SRS to change legal gender. I thought anyone could change their name into anything, regardless of gender . . . perhaps that's only true in some areas. I don't know all the facts, surely.

Hello everyone!!! I'm super happy!!! I just have 2 weeks over school left!
The real reason I stopped by was to say how much I enjoy the Magic Soap Opera House. It lots of fun to read. Thank you Photon for doing such a great job!
I'll be back in a couple days or so.....with a surprise.....bye!
Hey, kiddo! How ya been? Good to hear school is out soon.

Oooh. I wonder what that would entail.
Perhaps there are other permutations, such as into adjectives . . . like Krajalicious. Heh heh.
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.

I would tend to agree that gender goes a fair amount deeper than maternal imprinting behaviors in the first six months of life. For instance, gender identity differences tend to run in families, indicating a genetic/structural/organic cause and also supporting the notion that the brain of the transgender person is neither one gender or the other, but something in between but variably closer to one than the other.
This is different from yet another observation that people with autism and Asperger's syndrome tend to have a distinct kind of gender role dysphoria that is sometimes, but not always, found in conjunction with true gender identity mismatch. Many of these individuals have cisgender identity and heteronormative orientation but have significant social problems relating to the way their disability affects gender-specific social and behavioral rules. For instance, many Asperger's girls are tomboys not because they are transgendered, but because they "fit in" better with males who are less intuitive about the feminine social role and their transgression of it. This includes gender-neutral things like emotional multitasking and integrative perception as well as the expected difficulties with social role modeling within gender. I know of two different women who had or probably had an autistic-spectrum disorder, who went on to declare themselves transmen not because they sincerely identified as male, but because, as one put it, "were tired of people always looking askance at me because I did a horrible job of being a woman". Her brash, plain-spoken, competition-loving and rough-talking demeanor is much more at home in a male body and it has turned her life around. Whereas before "she" was chronically unemployed and very lonely, he is now senior sales manager for a value-added phone company and has many buddies; it has almost erased any sign that he was initially Asperger's and fired from many positions for being "unusual in manner and entirely untrustworthy". The other was a goalie and just decided she needed to be "he" to really enjoy the full experience of hockey which was his life's obsession.
At the bottom of these both are probably any number of complex neurodevelopmental processes that are at once stubbornly heritable but also exquisitely sensitive to environmental changes and maternal hormones. I hope the person(s) who unravel these mysteries get more than just a Nobel Prize because it will hopefully put to rest the idea that gender identity and even orientation are writ in stone, or in the Bible; or that they are a conscious choice to be changed at will or at gunpoint.

I think they got this information from some study which itself was looking for an external cause and looking to pass blame. Alot of legit people still believe gender identity and sexual identity which are abnormal are the result of poor upbringing. External sources can either enforce or hinder internal identity. Every experience shapes us, but morse in how we respond to our internal message than it does in adjusting said internal architecture.
Miss ya too myts. Well about your problems, I think just live your life and help them separately. Dont let it be into you, your goin to college soon and you dont want it to be messed up. You gotta be fresh fresh fresh...^_^
Anyway, I posted a poem in 8 banners in my extendo sig, and I was wondering if you guys can check it out and see if it's worth a chuckle or something? Thanks. I did those yesterday morning.
I always visit the sig shops even if Im not requestin anythin, and I saw your work. Theyre all good.

@ Hunter44, a quick sorry for all the girlie names I give you, proud that you are having fun with life, being engaged and all that, friends???
Why are u sayin this? of course we are friends! Silly. Its nothin. You can call me emily or cynthia if you wanna have fun. Dont call me Margo, its reserved for Kraj. But if you make so many new names then the game isnt so much fun anymore, and dont forget to call FL Vladimir.^_^
I don't see why we couldn't just have a casual Legacy tournament in the Coffeehouse. You know, play with a casual deck you own IRL or something.
My previous post was kinda like not seen, but Ive asked for a cheap and stron Legacy deck cuz Im gonna build one. But anyway, Kevin already pm'd a goblin list to me that was strong and cheap.
Im gonna go out later and find those goblins!
*Currently listenin to: weird al yankovic - Which Backstreet boy is Gay*
Well i lost in the 2nd round in the standard tournament. I know i shouldve sideboarded in those krosan grips to take out my opponent's worships grr. I probably wouldve won 2-0 if i did but thats okay ill be careful next time.
@little dragon: awww thats very sweet for you to say that i make the house cosy.
@kraj: nice going
I was playing against Project X by the way if anyone was curious.
I opened 2 future sight and 2 9th edition boosters today and this is what rares i got.
I really like Molten Disaster since it can't be countered if you paid its kicker and its a decent board clearer in my UR control deck that im going to build soon for casual play.
Well my day at work went well but i was tired though and 4 more days of work this week im glad i have saturday off though. Well ill post in a little while see you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses*
Nice article Kraj Nice rares, Cecilia! Sorry you lost round 2
I won round 2, 2-1. My Patriot Angels deck is performing beautifully, especially with its anti-aggro SB. But we're only in round 2 of 7 so anything can happen!
Regular of the Week coming soon.. I spent all day today gaming with my buddies so I'm gonna grab a bite to eat.

Yeah thanks! Thats okay i was being too confident of course i think MGA is a really fun deck to play with so thats probably why lol. When i was playing against my opponent and say nah i dont need to sideboard at all and when he dropped a worship i was like ohhh nuts my krosan grips are in my sideboard. Oh well its good to be too confident sometimes so then next time you will be more careful.
Congrats on winning 2 rounds in a row you seem like you have the best chance to make top 8 though in my opinion.
This week's Regular is Cecilia Lynne Adlehyde. Also known as kevinliu2333. Unfortunately, he wanted to get his names merged, but it will cause problems in MTGS.
Cecilia, who answers to that, Kevin, or Kev, is a real sweetheart. He's been with MTGS since May 2005, attracted by the Legacy forums and the wise knowledge of Belgareth, whom he looks up to with great reverence. He made the Cecilia name when he took on her persona in November 2006; Cecilia the character is from his favorite RPG, Wild ARMS Alter Code F. He can often be seen in the Coffeehouse, always giving hugs and kisses, sometimes even when you don't want it. But you know you want it. Cecilia is hard to resist.
He enjoys the Coffeehouse the best, posting quite regularly, but he also enjoys Natural 20, his clan, and still the Legacy forums, where he is, in my opinion, one of the best Legacy strategists I know. I'm nominating him for a trophy, I know that.
Speaking of Magic, Cecilia has a lot of favorite cards, and a lot of favorite decks. Kevin is a master of Legacy, but Cecilia has chosen Rancor as a favorite--it's perhaps the single best aggro aura in the game, and deservedly so. As for decks, he's currently using Mono-Green Aggro in the T2 tournament on MTGS. Looks easy to play but it takes skill to use well. Kevin is perhaps a master of WU Control, however.
Kevin and Cecilia spend their time together going many geeky things we all do: Anime, Magic, TV, movies, friends, RPGs, etc. You can find Cecilia and Kev on AIM, chatting every day and every night. Such a friend! His parents hail from China, and while his grasp has been decreasing slowly, Kevin knows Chinese, and he's a rather dashing 5' 8". Look out, ladies. He hopes to be a manager at the grocery store he works in, and is well on his way. His personal goal: Own 1 of every Legend from Legends.
He enjoys the friendly people in the Coffeehouse most, and loves Mamelon's cookies. Personally, I think he's got a crush on her, but it's very sweet of him to say so
Cecilia's got a few choice words for some of us Regulars:
Quote from Cecilia »
Hunter: He is pretty cool to talk to on yahoo messenger and he's honest and just easy going.
Crimson: One of my long time friends on mtgs and ive known him for about 2 or 3 years on mtgs.
Mamelon: A very kind woman. She knows alot of things about life in general and a really cool person to talk to on the net.
Alacar: Probably the best casual strategist i ever played against for magic. A pretty cool guy to talk to on aol and is also honest about everything.
Sakura:Probably the best rogue deck builder i have seen in awhile and she knows alot of things about life as well.
Nai: A very kind person also fun to play against in magic. Very easy going individual as well.
Strongbad: A great friend and a fun person to talk to when hes not busy with school.
Photon Eater: A pretty nice person and with a great sense of humor and ive always have appreciate when he gives out his humor to people in the house.
Ethersphere: The best rpg player in the world in my opinion. Also another pretty cool guy and ive enjoyed talking to him from time to time.
Thanks for your kindness, Cecilia! That's it for this week's Regular of the Week.
And now..
Geek Mp3s
Some from Cecilia, some from Alacar.
Suggested by Cecilia: Final Fantasy X - Mi'hen Highway
Final Fantasy VIII - Intruders From Alacar: Star Wars: Episode III - The Abridged Script
Wakewalking (the website that sponsors Geek Mp3s) is down currently. I'll post this later.

Well I honestly think you can beat anyone using MGA withouth Sb, but if you really need em then you might wanna use the Sb. Well anyway who's gonna expect worship to be in the metagame? I think youll still do fine. btw Kev Ive been hunting down the goblins in the list you have given me. thanks again.
Before I forgot, congratz for bein the regular of the week. Thanks also for the compliment, Ive never expected that, but I think your so cool too when we talk on ym(about some decks and DBZ stuff, I like Vegeta too but my fave is trunks..oh well you know that already)
Anyway Goodluck to everyone on their tourney matchups. May you all see each other in the finals or sumthin. Here's some sound.

Your welcome hunter and thanks the rotw was a total surprise for me lol. hehe well it was my fault for not sideboarding during game 2 it costed me the whole match but i wouldve won if i had at least one krosan grip in my hand oh well even yoda is not perfect. There is still 5 more rounds so i still have a chance to get MGA in noticable results. I do appreciate you giving me alot of respect and credit for my playing magic abilites though thanks hunter.
Well time for me to go to bed soon. Have a great night everyone! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone* See you all tommorrow and have a great day tommorrow everyone.

People tend to have a black-and-white view of gender role, and especially the average Joe Q Public will have serious doubts about the integrity and personhood of a person with a widely divergent social demeanor from their apparent gender. The sales guy was truly miserable and got nowhere in life because his entire worldview and way of interacting with others was so typically masculine it made people mistrust him intuitively and fundamentally as a woman. He valued his livelihood and financial survival over his sexuality, and started hormones about six years ago. it didn't cure his Asperger's, in fact he is still a horrible nerd and tends to have even more issues with routines and being "out to lunch" but people take this in stride because it's coming from a man. I knew her/him throughout this change and I watched a tortured shadow of a soul blossom into a great guy. I strongly believe the treatment was appropriate in this case considering how much other baggage he shed by undergoing it: chronic depression, anxiety, identity crisis, bitterness, hostility, social and financial ruin, drug abuse, and being preyed upon by psychiatrists eager to find something that wasnt there, or make it up entirely.
First off, congrats on RotW, Cecilia! Plus, given that I have avatars turned off, it's always nice to see yours blinking away.
You rang, ma'am?
Sorry, I can't find my recipe. I did find my one for ginger balls instead, though (get your mind out of the gutter, you vile people). They'll have to wait until Thursday night, given that I'm away today, but they're deliciously gingery.
I really liked your article, Kraj - particularly on land creatures, which I think are an inherently bad idea. I don't agree about the enchantment creatures, though - I could see them appearing as a sub-theme within a set, but I honestly don't feel it's a concept with enough potential to build a block around. The only way I could see it working is if there's a major illusion/reality debate going on in the story, and even then I think it would be forced. Oh, and Steamflogger Boss still makes me angry - there's absolutely no reason for something that confusing, misleading and pointless to be a rare.
I think everyone loves Mamelon's cookies, if you know what I mean.
That's really interesting. I'd like to think I judge people on their personality, regardless of their physical gender, but then I tend to adapt quite strongly to whoever I'm spending time with anyway, so it's a lot easier to go by personality than by anything else. Still, I could see how a lot of people would be thrown by that sort of personality - so many people (especially people in their 40s or older) be confused by something as simple as an assertive woman in the workplace, or a man who does the housework.
It also makes me wonder if that's why more boys are diagnosed as severely autistic (the special school my mother works at always has a much higher number of boys with autistic spectrum disorders) - they start from a handicapped position, so to speak, as males often seem to lack that certain amount of empathy or emotional insight that women tend to have. (I like to think of myself as fairly emotionally insightful, but apparently I'm just "soft" :)).
EDIT: ether, can we have an update on Wasted City, please? *bats eyelashes*
Mamelon's Cookies are awesome they are so delicious i might like them more then Cecilia though since she usually likes Chow mein more then anything else but she says she still loves Miss Mamelon's Cookies.
Thanks for the congrats Craig!

Hehe, indeed. Broken Mandela could use some lovin' as well.
@Cecilia - Congrats on ROTW!
@Photon - Another brilliant Soap Opera. I would so be playing mono blue/affinity/hulk/flash/storm
@Type 2 magic - Is it just me, or is :symu::symb: getting ever more powerful? (which makes me a very happy camper by the way). It's picking up Delay soon, and with Mystic Teachings, you can run such amazing critters. There is a rumor that Arcanis the Omnipotent is going to be reprinted in X as well, and I can't think of a better 1 of to tutor for, other then mabey Meloku or Morphling.
Speaking of X - Do any of you have high hopes for certain cards to be reprinted? I'm hoping..

The only cards i see on there that probably won't be reprinted is probably Sea Drake and Vampiric Tutor i hope i am wrong though. Sea drake is like worth 40 bucks a card now so i doubt they will reprint that unless wizards wants to get a bunch of people mad lol. I wouldnt mind having a playset of those though. Also since vampiric tutor is restricted in vintage i dont think they will reprint that card in type 2 although you never know since they reprinted something almost just like it which is infernal tutor. So i think all of your choices seem fairly reasonable in my opinion. I'd say they should definetly reprint Gifts of ungiven hehehe.

It's looking that way, which makes me happy because aggro has been running rampant and the one combo deck is still stupidly powerful. I find Dralnu to be a really, really annoying and boring build, though. I'd like to see U/B control get stronger simply for the ability to have other playable options than a damn Teferi engine.
And I just gotta say... one thing I forgot to account for when evaluating my desire to write an article is.... the people who respond to it. Very frustrating...

Yeah, U/B is gettin strong nowadays. Even Guillame Wafo-Tapa's Winning Block Constructed(Grand Prix Yokohama) U/B control is very nuts. My friend also build and playtested it and even if it was just a BC deck it crushed many t2 decks we have played against today. Geez, mystical teachings, Teferi, Tendrils of Corruption+Urborg nearly killed almost all decks in the metagame that we had. Its strong I tell ya..
ANyways Im gonna sleep now, See ya later guys. *hugs*
Oh my maybe i should check out the MGA sometime probably after i finish the standard tournament though and if i do good in the tournament ill post my results and make a tournament report in the thread well ill try to anyway.
I am probably alot more of a johnny now then i used to be i used to be a spike in legacy considering i played in one legacy tournament with solidarity and i won the whole tournament the tournament had around 39 players. Then i played 3 times with goblins and only one of those times i actually top 8 with goblins in a 30 player tournament and the other times i got eliminated in the first round since it was single elemination in 4 rounds at one 18 player tournament while the other was 12 players. Of course my best finish by far is going to an 87 player legacy tournament with my uw control and placing 12th place(top 15 gets prices since it was about 30 dollars of fee to enter the tournament) out of the whole thing and winning a playset of volcanic islands.
Its good to see you back hunter and talk to you all later im going to eat breakfast then head out to work. See you all when i get back tonight. *hugs and blows kisses to everyone* Take care everyone.
Congrats on ROW both of you! Kevin and his muse and guiding spirit Ceci

Hey, kiddo! How ya been? Good to hear school is out soon.
Oooh. I wonder what that would entail.
Perhaps there are other permutations, such as into adjectives . . . like Krajalicious. Heh heh.
*raises hand* Sounds yummy.

Lol! Nice name Sakura-babe-a-gorgeous.
My previous post was kinda like not seen, but Ive asked for a cheap and stron Legacy deck cuz Im gonna build one. But anyway, Kevin already pm'd a goblin list to me that was strong and cheap.

Okay have a good meal.

When I first saw ur patriot angels I know its gonna be good. I always want to build an angel deck and its just that I dont have any money yet to construct another competitive standard deck.
COngratz Sexy.

Hehe, indeed. Broken Mandela could use some lovin' as well.
@Cecilia - Congrats on ROTW!
Sea Drake
Vampiric Tutor
Ensnaring Bridge
Horn of Greed
Imperial Recruiter
Gifts Ungiven
Eternal Witness
Sakura-tribe elder
Sensei's Divining top
Seismic Assault
Obliterate or Jokulhaups
Thanks shaharazad for the congrats.

I'm sitting at my friend's house after a long night of gaming. Ah, SSBM, how I love that game :D. Other than that, nothing of any real importance is going on.
Seems like forever since I visited here...
How is everyone doing? I can't be bothered to read back the last 3000-4000 posts since I last did, so can anyone summarize any of the discussion/scandal
* Rite hopes everyone is well.
I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT!!!!
We are quite the Johnny, aren't we?
It's looking that way, which makes me happy because aggro has been running rampant and the one combo deck is still stupidly powerful. I find Dralnu to be a really, really annoying and boring build, though. I'd like to see U/B control get stronger simply for the ability to have other playable options than a damn Teferi engine.
And I just gotta say... one thing I forgot to account for when evaluating my desire to write an article is.... the people who respond to it. Very frustrating...
Current New Favorite Person™: Mallory Archer
She knows why.

Cecilia

Have you ever been to any of the east coast Duel for duals? One of my former playtesting chaps Matt Mancinelli recently took 2nd place there winning one of each dual land.
EDIT: Playing Mantle Affinity in a Solidarity- and Goblins- heavy format.
Having some trouble viewing the site at work, I had to disable Avies, Graphics and Sigs...ugh. This computer sux.
Congrats Kevie, you deserve it. And thanks for the kind words.
