I wouldn't do that, though. Then I would be deemed a poser, which is absolutely NOT what I am.
Too many new anime series? Waaaah?!?!?..........Stuff.......Is that even.......possible? It can't be. The only thing that's ever stopped me from downloading is too little disk space. Even then, I just got an external hard drive, problem solved. But too many new series? Your such a kidder.
Ugh, another FNM of going 1/3 and not getting the random prize. Oh well, I have a play set of ***s now. Now I'm one step closer to building my Stuffy Doll Abuse deck. A guy ran that tonight and came in third. The deck is TIGHT!
*SCREAMS*
I...don't like most anime anymore, it seems. I gave Blood+ a chance, hoping that the slow pace would just make it the next Witch Hunter Robin, but it's just been...predictable so far. It seems the kind of anime I really like, with the feel I really go for, aren't being produced anymore. Maybe with the exception of Bleach and Eureka7, but that's it.
Speaking of anime I really don't like...Naruto. *Defeated sigh*
Sorry about not being here lately, people. My computer died on me and I've been getting online haphazardly on my mother's and/or sister's mac to get internet access. And, if anyone's been checking up on me, you can tell that my only posts have been, mostly, verbal sparring with infractionees or working on various moderating duties.
My computer not only lost its powersource, it also broke the ethernet port AND has a corrupted HD. It might be gone for over a week and a half. Luckily, I'm able to snag a mac for the time being. I'm not a particular fan of macs, but I'm at least getting used to them.
Part 2 of 3 of the Zelda Reviews will be out next post.
1. Samurai X
2. Naruto
3. HunterXHunter (my favorite is Hisoka, his number in the Hunter's exam is 44, so that kinda made my name here in mtg. He likes cards too.)
4. KnockOut (Ippo boxer thing)
5. DragonBall series
6. Flame of Recca
7. Cooking Master Boy
9. Yu Yu Hakusho (referred as Ghost Fighter here in the Phil.)
10. Detective Conan
11. Gensomaden Saiyuki
12. Cowboy Bebop
13. Lupin III
14. Curious Play (fushigi yuugi)
15. Let's go (tamiya race cars)
and many more like Rave, oldschool like Voltes V, Daimos etc..
I'm not sure I've said it before but I really don't care for Anime. I do like some Manga, though. Perhaps a viewing of Ninja Scroll tonight...
I don't think animation is for everyone. However, manga is a very different medium. I love it, though I've known many people who adore anime and don't like manga.
Were there any manga that you liked in particular?
I still feel like I can get into most any anime that has reasonably interesting characters. I admit that art style tends to influence me a lot - sometimes I just like the way an anime looks, probably because that creates a certain feel watching it.
@Keywords: This is just my guess, but I have a feeling that a big reason a lot of these effects were keyworded (deathtouch, lifelink, reach, etc.) is because designers want to use them more often, without having to have them compete for card space.
@CharlieD: I have to say, I always love your custom titles. Always so poetic.
Maple tea? That sounds amazing.
@Shadowfox: I just love those flamingo pics. Flamingos are such beautiful creatures, and not just because of their lovely pale pink feathers.
Quote from Kraj »
You know, when I suggested updating the Custom Cards subforum rules to make rudeness and unconstructive criticism an infractable offense, I didn't think I'd be handing out this many infractions. Apparently, combating people's natural tendancies to prove they are better than someone else is quite a battle...
That doesn't surprise me. Rudeness is quite common on this site, from minor discourtesy to trolling. I totally agree, however, with your idea that these should be infractable offenses. I think it'll be a good thing. Even though your moderation doesn't tend to affect the threads I hang out in there, I think you've shown yourself to be a very good, competent, and responsible mod.
@Alacar: Does the keywording of lifelink change how you view Spirit Link? That card's text hasn't changed.
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
After skimming through all the card stuff I'm clueless about...
Shadowfox...loved the pictures. Flamingos are my favorite bird ever, and very near my favorite animal. I think I might have SQUEEED when I saw the pictures, so close and kind of personal.
Random fact for those that didn't know. Their feathers are pink because of all the shrimp they eat.
It's time for Game of the Week, part 2 of 3 of the Zelda Edition. And you could probably guess my game this time.
That's right, one of the original bad boys of Nintendo. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This game has become a legend unto itself. It's had a game of the year by the Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has frequently been called the greatest game of all time. Yes, that was taken directly off of Wikipedia. The game deserves those titles.
Originally it was my sister that received this game, not me. She got it for Christmas with a red, see-through Nintendo 64. I had had my 64 for a good long time previous. My sister never played the game, I had practically been drooling over it, so I commandeered it. She never really noticed. I proceeded to play up to about Shadow Temple where I stopped. I always hated the Shadow Temple. Later on, my friend and I joined forces to best this game and conquer the evil that is Ganon. It was a truly epic moment to see the end of that game back then. This was in '99, and I was 10 at the time.
The game is one of those that you'll never forget, a game that is truly as big as it promises to be, and truly a credit to both the makers of the game and the franchise it belongs to. For me, this was the biggest game of its day. It held a whole world inside of it (small, maybe, but a true world, the entire kingdom). Not to mention that it was a Zelda in 3d. Now that's something to rave about.
Today, graphics in the Zelda world are smooth, and you can see the chain links in Link's chain mail. Back then, the graphics were a bit blocky, you didn't get the detail we have now, and you generally didn't have the fantastic surroundings we have today. We didn't mind back then. Why? This was the first Zelda ever in 3D! That's a big deal. It was as big as Super Mario 64; the first of the series to ever be experienced in three dimensions. Previously, we just had an above-view for Zelda. Now, however, we can see all around. We aim with the bow, we aim with the boomerang. Things happen around you and you have to turn to look. Zelda became immersive. Sure, nowadays the graphics are nothing special. But there's a good reason that, when they made Master Quest (which I'll touch on later), they didn't upgrade the graphics at all, even while diving into the game's code.
This game had some rather cool sound effects and some nice music. There's always going to be Kokiri Forest, Saria's Song, the Hyrule Field Theme. Even if you aren't a Zelda fan, you probably know these songs. They've been remixed and played all over the internet. They're good songs. Link has a voice and, while it isn't saying much, you can hear him yell and scream as things happen to him. Bombs explode, you can hear your sword's 'shink' sound occasionally, and you hear the boomerang whipping through the air. Things aren't as good as they are now, but they were at their peak nine years ago.
I don't know about you guys, but Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda I had ever played that really seemed to have a special story. Zelda DOES have a canon, though most people don't notice it, and Ocarina of Time is the anchor point for the Canon. This game has actually caused controversy when talking about how the story goes. Why? The game sets up two storylines, and the newest games seem to play in those timelines. But which game goes where? It's a good question. In Ocarina of Time, Link has to go to the famous Temples (of Time, Spirit, Shadow, Fire, Forest, and Water, among others) to awaken the sages of those temples in order to fight the evil Ganondorf and generally take the world back from him. While Twilight Princess is said to be the first Zelda to actually have a true story that doesn't move you from dungeon to dungeon, Ocarina of Time actually gives you a real reason to go to the dungeons themselves. You must awaken their sages. Makes sense.
Gameplay in the game was amazing. It was different from anything else at the time. You were holding up a shield to block attacks, throwing boomerangs to stun enemies, shooting a bow from horseback... These were new things back then. But you still had the old Zelda formula: dive into a dungeon, get a spiffy item, kill a boss with that item, leave the dungeon and find out what you get to do next while completing sidequests to take your mind off the horror of what, exactly, did the designers put in your way in the NEXT one? You were locking onto enemies using the famous Z-Targetting (you've heard of that, right?) and circling them, sidestepping, before you'd make your strike. You were jumping over pits, climbing up ladders and mesh, fighting everything from dragons to witches to strange disembodied zombie hands that played bongos with the battlefield. The game was epic, it was large, it was long, and it recreated what it meant to play a Zelda game.
Let's take a quick step back and look at something in the game. The enemies. Enemies might not be interesting to you, but they are a big facet of your Zelda game. You have your bosses and your mini-bosses and your regular enemies. And Ocarina of Time had some cool enemies. How about the Re-Deads? Those creepy things that screamed, froze Link, and then rode piggyback while hurting you? I dont' recall seeing them in any previous Zelda game, but they've showed up in every one that followed. You were able to see the Stalfos in 3d. You had a dragon boss that required a hammer to beat. And then you had Ganondorf himself, the big floaty guy everyone knows how. You know, the boss that had you play tennis/ping pong with shooting energy balls. These were some enemies that took you a while to figure out how to beat because it wasn't so cut and dry as some bosses are now.
The story... The story was fantastic. It immersed you. For those that haven't played it yet, I'm not saying too much. But you, as Link, are going from child to adult via a time-warping Temple to take the kingdom back from Ganondorf's hands. While we've seen Ganondorf before in other games, this is the first time (in my memory) that we actually SAW him, learned where he came from, what he was all about, and actually had to fight him in his true form. Other games (like Link's Awakening) had Ganondorf involved, but you never really saw him. A shadow of him. Now you see him, in all his green-skinned, red-haired glory. A look that doesn't quite change since then.
Okay, that's enough fanboy blabbing from me. You guys get the idea. Ocarina of Time is a legend unto itself; the true Legend of Zelda (outside the actual story, of course). It sets the standard for every game to come. And it gets a full 10/10 from me for fulfilling every aspect of a Zelda game I could ever want.
@CharlieD: I have to say, I always love your custom titles. Always so poetic.
Maple tea? That sounds amazing.
Thanks!! It's from the song "Dismantle. Repair." by Anberlin. Probably my third favourite song of all time (behind 2113 and The Light and The Glass). I'm going to see them in June.
And maple tea is indeed amazing. It's really sweet, and tastes ALOT like maple syrup.
Supanova was amazing fun! I bought season 1 and 2 of Mighty Boosh, a Fullmetal Alchemist hat that was yellow with an angry face on it. I also got 2 Rock Lee badges and a young Rock Lee pendant for my cellphone.
It was fantastic, though. Getting to the front of stalls was like being pushed together at concerts. They had some awesome merchandise. I saw probably 8 Rock Lee things that I wanted, but I didn't have any money left. I saw the young Rock Lee pin and wanted it, but was out of cash. When my dad arrived to pick me up, I begged him for the money for it, ran inside, and it was still there! So I got it. The best stall was the tamarket one.
The cosplayers were pretty good all around. There was the most amazing Zelda, seriously - her outfit was so intricate. There was some really good Kingdom Hearts ones and Naruto & Bleach ones. My favourite, though, was the two people who cosplayed as Howard Moon and Vince Noir from Mighty Boosh. I yelled out "I'm the moon!" but no one got the joke.
So, yeah. BEST DAY EVER. haha.
@Photon Eater: Rooibos and Vanilla is indeed awesome. It was $9 for around 100grams, which was pretty good, considering some of the others. It has a really rich flavour.
@Sha & Tanthalas: I agree! I also really like Keep The Car Running. Oh, Sha - I'm looking for it. I really like Neighbourhood #3. It's an awesome song.
(purchased) ..a Fullmetal Alchemist hat that was yellow with an angry face on it.
Nice. Fullmetal Alchemist is my all time favorite. I'm usually not into memorabilia, but I very much want to buy the FMA pocketwatch. It's a replica of the standard issue state alchemist watch.
Blessing seems like either a remarkably narrow ability, or a remarkably nightmarish ability. I really don't know what the mechanical business is with Copper, so I don't know which it is, exactly.
Oh wait. Ninja. Yeah. Hmmm.
Um... it's a middleground between both. It's meant to be used and abused with the Ninja, which is why it revolves around dealing damage (except the green one, which turns the critter into Rampant Growth when you use Blessing, or Sakura-Tribe Elder when you don't.
Edit: @Blessing: Not that it's a bad ability because of it's context (i.e. it's in a set with Ninja), but otherwise it WOULD be a very narrow mechanic. I don't like it very much because of that. However, it does work pretty well in context so it shouldn't be bad... sorcery/instant like enchantments are somewhat interesting like that because of the whole free effect thing - its still card disadvantadge tho (you knew this of course) so it's still meh.
Yeah, it IS card disadvantage, but it's still a bit of advantage since it's a one-time effect with the Ninja and such.
You'd have to be very careful with this one in block. Any creatures like Spark Elemental or Groundbreaker turn this into a free five damage to the dome. A Spark Elemental on the first turn with two of these on it swings for 13. Ouch!
After getting some sleep and reading this, you are absolutely right. So I'm probably gonna change it to +1/+0 and first strike or something much weaker. Imagine slapping FOUR of them down? That's GG on turn 1 with Raging Goblin.
Ala: I think the red blessing is a tiny bit too strong. It would be a 4 of in any deck in your block, because there will be a lot of ninja's running around.
I also notice that any color can use any blessed enchantment for the blessing ability. Was that intentional?
That's kinda the point of the keyword, which is why only one of each color is gonna be printed in this set. Expect few in the next 2. And yes, it was intentional
But.....but....but............."The Coffeehouse's Leeroy Jenkins".........."The Coffeehouse's Leeroy Jenkins"......you know, that has a catchy sound to it.
I wouldn't do that, though. Then I would be deemed a poser, which is absolutely NOT what I am.
I don't think you would be.. you yell enough and you're always a glaring red flash on the Coffeehouse
@Alacar: Does the keywording of lifelink change how you view Spirit Link? That card's text hasn't changed.
Edit: Detective Conan is awesome.
Yes, Conan is AWESOME!
And Lifelink? Bah, there's only one instance of Lifelink on the spoiler and it doesn't say what Lifelink does, so it could be different. If it's not, then I don't care.
Hmm.. not very critical of the game.. you praised everything about it. But hey, it still is worthy of a 10/10, but it's certainly not for people who want a deeper plot. While OoT's isn't shallow, it's not for people who don't like a silent protagonist.

AAAHHHHHH NARUTO HEADBANDS EVERYWHERE! Ooh! That cosplay is nice. AHHHHHHHHH--Hmm.. wonder if I should buy this art print--AAHHHHH..
It was truly awesome, but I am now officially Anti-Naruto.
The thing is, this one is over two days. And because I had so much fun today, I want to go again tomorrow, but I don't think mum will let me. I'll get all my schoolwork done so she'll be all happy. :xd:
Oh man, I got another infraction...Why am I always so stupid in doing things?..Maybe Im not just reading some forum guidelines. Im very lazy for that type of readin...2 more infractions and Im suspended agin for four days. I do not mean to do those things. Im a very kind person...BUT WHY!!!!???

Oh yeah.. so was MomoCon 2 days of anime! I did like going to the AMV theatre though. If you search my blog, you'll find pictures of the Con
Hunter, you should consider posting a little less often.
Well, if you don't like a silent protagonist, you shouldn't be playing a Zelda game. As far as I'm aware, Link NEVER says anything at all. And I can't find anything in my memory that is wrong with Ocarina of Time that can't be understood by remembering it's an old game.
I never played Zelda because of extensive Final Fantasy Game hours of mine.
Even though I dont know a thing in Zelda, I've always thought of Link as a cool lead character. He is one of the legendary dudes in the top ten Lead Characters in the gaming Industry and History. But oh well, nothing beats Mario on the top spot.;)
@Nai: Lovely review of one of the best games ever to see play. I compliment your completeness.
@AL: Aqua Teen was amazing. I loved every second of it; even though about 40 minutes in it got a tad slow for maybe 10 minutes or so it was still one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time.
I went to FNM last night. Didn't do so hot. So what do you guys think of Future Sight so far?
I'm excited about it so far. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone in the house trying to avoid the leaks so the rest goes in spoilers.
I'm dying to see AquaTeenHungerForceColenMovieDotCom or whatever it's called. I love the show.
I love the new legend mechanic, and the new Bladewing is simply brilliant.
I love how diverse the set it. It captures the idea of a plane of temporal chaos perfectly.
There is this new black enchantment for :symb::symb::symb:, I can't remember the name, but it only functions in your graveyard. This is brilliant from a design perspective. It's effects are so johnny combo-riffic as well.
Love the textless cards.
Love the fact that they are pulling heavy inspiration from the un sets. The fact is, they are pushing the limits of single card interactions (Such as giving a card cycling and madness built it. See blast from the past)
Things I don't like so far Way too many auras. I don't like auras generally, and this set is flooded witht hem.
I don't like the idea of tribal as a card type. It feels completly unnecessary, and according to the spoiler, the set only has one tribal card in it. I highly suspect that tribal will be explored more fully in the next set, and that the next set will be almost a fully tribal set.
Anticipation: I can't wait to see what a Planeswalker does. I also am dying to see what they do with the amazing angel art D. Alexander Gregory made.
Edit: I want to say, excelent writeup of the Zelda game! I've never had nintendos though, not since the first one, and I've never had the chance to play all the wonderfull Zelda games. I've really missed out.
Oh! I missed the bit about the Master Quest. The game is so amazing and so well known, they remade the game. Sort of. They used the same graphics and everything and put it on the Gamecube with new puzzles in all the dungeons. That's a big deal, methinks.
@CD:
I'm sitting here going, "Mighty Boosh", huh? So I try to look it up on anidb... then on Wiki. Ah ha. But why is a british comedy associated with an anime convention?
I...don't like most anime anymore, it seems. I gave Blood+ a chance, hoping that the slow pace would just make it the next Witch Hunter Robin, but it's just been...predictable so far. It seems the kind of anime I really like, with the feel I really go for, aren't being produced anymore. Maybe with the exception of Bleach and Eureka7, but that's it.
Speaking of anime I really don't like...Naruto. *Defeated sigh*
By produced, you mean brought to the states and shown on TV? I wouldn't hold my breath, if I were you. What kind of show were you looking for? Blood+ is slow, true, but it gets much better after the first season (ep 13). You know how in the movie Saya pretty much just goes on one mission and kills some stuff? Think of the first season like that. It's one big, loooong mission. After that, they start doing much shorter, 2-4 episode missions, which improves the pace dramatically. As for Naruto... I know what you mean.
But seriously, if you have broadband, that for now is the best way to watch anime. Most of the good new shows are stuff that hasn't yet been released in the states.

Voltes V and Daimos? After looking those up, wow! That is some old-school giant robo right there. I'm not of fan of all the Jump manga, but those two made me smile.
Time for me to a) do taxes and b) work on possibly another entry for the weekly contest. If anybody needs to play a PL game or whatever today, just PM me; I'll be on.
@Photon Eater: Rooibos and Vanilla is indeed awesome. It was $9 for around 100grams, which was pretty good, considering some of the others. It has a really rich flavour.
I think it is also a calming flavor, too. I used to enjoy drinking it before bed. Rooibos has no caffeine, but still offers many of the benefits of other teas (despite the fact that it is not a true tea)- lowers your blood pressure, calms your mind, is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, and all that business. Vanilla is a rich flavor, but it's also a subtle flavor, and the combination of both is conducive to relaxation.
Um... it's a middleground between both. It's meant to be used and abused with the Ninja, which is why it revolves around dealing damage (except the green one, which turns the critter into Rampant Growth when you use Blessing, or Sakura-Tribe Elder when you don't..
The fact is, you can run them fairly reliably in any ninja deck, and because of that the red one is a stanky little number, I think. However, the keyword only gets really nasty if it is put on an aura of a different power level, or something that provides an innate insolvability to the enchanted creature. That's just my opinion, though, I'm sure I have no idea what I am talking about.
Wait, ANOTHER infraction? Damn. I would be pretty damn careful if I were you.

I think he means "produced", in general. We've both sort of felt that for years now, new anime all just sort of runs together. I know there is nothing new under the sun, but come on- there are only so many reiterations of the same anime conventions one can take. I think we're both just a little bit spoiled on the mid-90's era of anime, and anything new tends to disappoint.

My helpdesk should you need me.
Nice. Fullmetal Alchemist is my all time favorite. I'm usually not into memorabilia, but I very much want to buy the FMA pocketwatch. It's a replica of the standard issue state alchemist watch.
I'm glad your liking Funeral so far.
Um... it's a middleground between both. It's meant to be used and abused with the Ninja, which is why it revolves around dealing damage (except the green one, which turns the critter into Rampant Growth when you use Blessing, or Sakura-Tribe Elder when you don't.
Yes, it make me chuckle too when I watched the video again.
Yeah, it IS card disadvantage, but it's still a bit of advantage since it's a one-time effect with the Ninja and such.
After getting some sleep and reading this, you are absolutely right. So I'm probably gonna change it to +1/+0 and first strike or something much weaker. Imagine slapping FOUR of them down? That's GG on turn 1 with Raging Goblin.
That's kinda the point of the keyword, which is why only one of each color is gonna be printed in this set. Expect few in the next 2. And yes, it was intentional
I don't think you would be.. you yell enough and you're always a glaring red flash on the Coffeehouse
*Flashbacks to Atlanta Georgia, March 2006--MomoCon.*
AAAHHHHHH NARUTO HEADBANDS EVERYWHERE! Ooh! That cosplay is nice. AHHHHHHHHH--Hmm.. wonder if I should buy this art print--AAHHHHH..
It was truly awesome, but I am now officially Anti-Naruto.
Edit: The world's HARDEST game of Super Mario.

The thing is, this one is over two days. And because I had so much fun today, I want to go again tomorrow, but I don't think mum will let me. I'll get all my schoolwork done so she'll be all happy. :xd:

Even though I dont know a thing in Zelda, I've always thought of Link as a cool lead character. He is one of the legendary dudes in the top ten Lead Characters in the gaming Industry and History. But oh well, nothing beats Mario on the top spot.;)

Things I don't like so far
Way too many auras.
Anticipation:
I can't wait to see what a Planeswalker does.
Did the Damnations beat you?? :xd:
Watched about 6 episodes of Mighty Boosh so far. Mod Wolves = the best ever.
@Sha: FS looks to be an amazing set so far. All them yummy futureshifts... *drool*

I'm sitting here going, "Mighty Boosh", huh? So I try to look it up on anidb... then on Wiki. Ah ha. But why is a british comedy associated with an anime convention?
