Cryptworld is a shell of a world located in a pocket plane where historically unsavoury and unwanted elements from other planes have been tossed, or in some case unlucky souls have found themselves lost to. The world is at once a prison, and refuse dump, and a sanitarium. There are people struggling for survival on Cryptworld, offspring of those deposited here and grown from people who found themselves as accidental tourists.
The colors :
White : A hodgepodge mix of nomads of various creeds and origin.
BlUe : The blue aspect of Cryptworld is mixed with Wizards hunting for lost treasures of the Arcane collected on this junkpile world as well as Mutants grown from the mix of magics. Black : Mercenaries and Undead who revel in the dark origins and the corrupt birth of this hellborn world. Many aligned to this color falsly call the Cryptworld's builder Nevinyrral God. Red : What more could people of chaos ask but a world born on chaos. A mixed tribe of cruel goblins known for stealing the young of other races as slaves makes this color home. Green : Gaea finds her hold wherever she can, and Yavimaya is not as lost as people think.
Colors hose their allies all of the time - the trick is doing it without explicitly referring to the color. Any white or black split second spell hoses their ally, blue, since those spells get around countermagic. Intrepid Hero hurts green the most, and Kiku's Shadow hurts red the most. Engulfing Flames harms green and black fairly directly.
Flavor to justify cards is a tricky issue. Just because you -can- justify a flavor for something, doesn't mean that it's not weak. Form of the Dragon is the classic example of a card where the flavor is extremely strong and thus the out-of-color ability can perhaps be forgiven. Calling Cage of Hands "Cage of Ice", "Cage of Shadows", "Cage of Fire" or "Cage of Vines" does not constitute strong enough flavor to justify any of those cards.
Did you win that Food Network/HGTV whatever contest for the kitchen?
Sadly no, as any contest from Food Network would certainly be faster then this one. It's going to be a year with no kitchen pretty soon. I'm a smoker damnit. A year is a precious thing!
Once they finish, I may take some photos or whatever.

I agree, and it's even more allowable if the mechanic being used already has an ambiguous color identity. "Creatures can't attack" is certain much more white, mechanically, than any other color, but combined with the rest of the card (which mechanically conveys giving yourself flying), and the fact that flying is not a strictly white ability, and how unique the flavor is that is being represented, a card like Form of the Dragon could easily be whatever color it is printed as. Not to mention that one of the primary uses of the card is to deal 5 direct damage to an opponent every turn, which is decidely red.
Pacifism, on the other hand, is not only a clearly white effect, but it's well represented in that color and no other color.
Some cards, like Glacial Ray, I think are good examples of how flavor can also be ambiguous and can be made to fit the mechanic. Ice is logically associated with blue, the color of water, cold, slowing things down, and which has other ice cards. However, dangerous weather used to damage creatures and players still has a notably red feel to it - as an "ice" card, it doesn't function in any of the ways by which blue uses "ice."

1. You had better hope that "man" was in the spirit of "aw, MAN!" as opposed to "I'm here for you, man", or else you are gonna find yourself staring at an attack of the tribe of Wannahaveahooha.
2. Thanks for the update, I'll be waiting with baited breath to be sure.

Hey everybody. Just checking in. I did what I usually do, hung out with my friends. I was also working on the details to a story I've been writing. One of the many adventures we went on seemed interesting enough for me to write into a story, so I decided to talk to my DM/best friend about the details of the adventure so I could write it.

Evening everyone! I got home from work about 20 or so mins ago, and I'm enjoying a bite to eat. Today went kinda fast up until the end, since I was almost constantly doing something. Like making Garlic Bread for over an hour!!
I'm gonna sit and relax a bit for now. I'm up for a PCL game if anyone else is, but if not, I'll play some ToS since I didn't have time earlier.
*Serves Umgenni some pink grapefruit tea and leaves an extra one for later* Congrats on RotW! Quite interesting
I'm starting a 20 day countdown until rumor season is over *sigh* I miss the who's here list.
Sakura-I think everyone has pretty much covered any thought I had...just realize it takes time for one and all
Strongbad and Joyd...congrats on meeting and hopefully everything turns out well.
MagicSoapOperaHouse too funny my dear. It's also extra funny for reasons that cannot be discussed here.
As for me...everything is a bit messy. My great grandma whom I visited in Florida went back in the hospital the last day we were there, April 1st if I recall correctly. Well, she was released Easter morning. She would have been released the night before but refused to accept a doctor that she said looked like he just came in from a Harley ride. She's a funny lady!
Other emotions and things are driving me a bit crazy, but someone is helping me talk through them
We're in mid-term week at school. I'll be glad when my busy summer arrives.
I hope everything gets better or goes well for each of you. It seems we've been in a slump lately and I hate to see friends not doing well. *hugs*

I'm excited about it. It works so nicely with one of my favorite cards (art wise and effect wise) of all time, gifts ungiven.
It's one of those cards that invites creative thinking and bizzare builds.
I was wondering, would anyone be up for helping me brainstorm and consider some deck ideas? I'm trying very hard to make a :symb::symr::symu: deck that I love for standard. I have 4 definate ideas in mind. We could do it over pm or chat. I'm going to have to download a chat program though.

Hehe, j/k.
I'm doing pretty good at the moment. I'd be doing better if I could actually stand to win a PCL game. I don't know if it the cards I have (or don't) or what. I think I may change my precon again. Perhaps go all aggro or something. Or even just to switch colors up.
Games? Recently, I've been playing some Tales of Symphonia. It's pretty good. Once I get some more money saved, I plan on getting a DS and a few games, so that should keep my occupied.

I might do better now that I have more cards, though it's hard to tell. It's frustrating, especially when your deck just doesn't seem to want to come together to a form a cohesive identity. We should play sometime.

How are you doing?
Alright, I guess. Work's been okay, weather's been good . . . life doesn't suck. But I often still feel like I do. Oh, well. Maybe things will look better in the morning. To be fair, though, I've been telling myself that for years, and each morning, things still aren't much better.
I guess ya just gotta keep hoping, right?
Edit: Well, that's not fair. Things often improve in significant ways. I just wish the main problem would get better.

You can't give up hope. I know how it is. A drudging day of work or school, a feeling of loneliness. One more day tacked onto a stack of other worthless days. I understand how that must be. Sometimes, however, good friends can make the difference.

Oh, assuredly, they do. Loneliness sure is hard, but there are lots of people who ease that. It's not so bad. Life has a lot of good in it, I think, but it also has a lot of challenges. Some of which I'd just rather not deal with. I'm sure you know how that can be.

believe me, I completely understand. Challenges are hard to deal with. Like not knowing what, if anything, keeps you from doing things like regular people. Completely off topic, but I must ask. Just as an observation....are you a FE7 fan? That banner is particularly nostalgic of the days I used to play it.
I'm also in the function over flavor camp. My problem with current R&D, though, is that they don't try very hard to design actually flavorful Legends. There are definitely gems like Teferi every now and then, but cards like Teysa or Toshi, for example... they have almost nothing to do with the actual character they're depicting. I think legendary cards are the one place where flavor should be king.
Well, I think they did a bang-up job on the legends in Ravnica. Almost all of them are spot-on for flavor and really functionally useful, as well. Most people rebut this with "yeah but only in their guild! =P" to which I say...have you actually tried playing them?
I think in the case of cards like Toshi and Teysa, it comes down to there only being so much you can do. Legendary creatures are my favorite card type to design, and I know that sometimes it's so easy for a legend to be either overpowered or completely useless when you stick solely to flavor. I don't like Teysa as a creature, but I also know that there's probably nothing else she could do, really. At least nothing that would land her a spot in someone's deck.
I think you pretty much hit it there. When it comes to characters with complexity and depth, you just can't possibly capture their entirety in card-form. And when they're part of a cycle with specific mechanics, like Teysa was, it's ever harder.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
Very few of the Ravnica legends, in my opinion, were so narrow as to only fit in a specific deck. Teysa is among the narrowest, and obviously wants to be in a deck with lots of quick black and white creatures, token producers, and sac outlets. But if you think about the recent face of black white, that's not such a narrow scope.
Others, including Experiment Kraj, Lyzolda the Blood Witch, and even Circu, Dimir Lobotomist all have some place in decks prominently using their colors. They vie for deck space as much as any card, but as I see it, they're all fairly worthy considerations.
I'm really liking what I see of Future Sight. I was concerned about how they would manage a "future-shifted" feel. But with all of the spontaneous innovations to rules, the unexpected expansions in previous design space, and the apparently random manifestations of new mechanics, it really does feel like they grabbed handfuls of ideas for later blocks and ported them into a smaller set.
This can be a bit jarring, admittedly, just because it does feel so out of place. But I think that's the point. Most of the future-shifted cards I've seen really do feel like cards "from the future." I think it's quite a good job, especially as this set was the one out of the block for which I've been most excited.
Edit: Kraj, I like how Photon is now on your list of favorite people. A little club appears to be forming.
