I got white, which isn't a huge surprise to me. Like, most people, I can recognize elements of myself that fit into any of the colors. It was a little painful how obvious which color choice was which, and I can't imagine anyone getting green. (One of my 'pet peeves' with green in color wheel theory is that despite being a broad color, very few human personality traits fall in line with it; 'in touch with nature' is a fairly narrow personality category.)
White - I'd probably agree that I'm more white than anything else by a fair margin. I like order and rules, am into community and think that helping others is cool, while being all cynical and negative is weak. A lot of people that know me forget that I did grow up on a military base, and some of that has rubbed off on me. I'm into organized religion.
Blue - I used to be far more blue than I am now; when I was high school I was almost certainly more blue than anything else. I like to think that I've grown up a little since then, though. I still have a number of heavy blue traits, however, including an appreciation for the value of knowledge and reasoning. (My appreciation for the value of raw intelligence has dropped enormously as time has passed.)
Red - Red, blue, black, and green were hard to rank. On one hand, I am extremely passive, which is anathema to red, though I have gotten much less passive as time has passed. (My appreciation for the value of action has increased, but I'm still much more passive than most people.) I very seldom get angry and I'm not particularly passionate. I'm not very spontaneous. I do almost pathologically think outside of the box, something that's fading as I learn to take more common-sense approaches to things.
Green - Green was hard to place because despite how much attention I pay to color wheel theory, I don't have a clear idea of what a green personality is. I don't go outdoors much, but I care enough about the environment to not eat meat, and I like plants and especially animals.
Black - I guess I'm less black than any other color. I had a hard time thinking of major areas of my life where I'm clearly black. Like everyone, I sometimes do black things, but I'd have a hard time justifying myself as black, and I tend to feel negatively about most things and actions that are black-aligned.
I have found that my appreciation for intelligence in other people has become less relevant as I grow older. I sort of feel that the lofty ideal of being part of some select group of "smart people" is an immature aspiration. Granted, I do like a person who has some insight and appreciates education and knowledge, but I personally have gotten jaded with the intellectual attitude. I think it is vastly more important for someone to have a decent character and well rounded personality than it is for someone to be able to regurgitate a variety of facts in my face.
To simplify, I would rather spend the day with a friendly idiot than with an intelligent *******.
(Now, when I meet someone who happens to have a welcoming personality AND a sharp mind, I totally melt.)
Oh, lord, Venser has just about the worst wording anyone could ask for. Why? He looks like CIP: Boomerang or Remand. But he's not. He's CIP: Boomerang or (more or less) Counterspell. I bet that in a vacuum, only a teensy portion of the Magic population will play him that way. My word, the wording is cute, but why oh why?

He IS a Remand. Or at least that's the way the article described it. The spell doesn't resolve and the card goes back to the hand. Unless there's some magical rule that says played cards go to the graveyard before the spell resolves? That WOULD make him a hard counter... I don't like him very much as a Remand... I WOULD like him as a counter. A tad expensive but still a fine one.
The other card's only sorta exciting... and only because the ability is kinda hot for certain reasons.
that's a very, weird card. Venser's ability makes sense, but its' odd. I like him, though, weird, but useful.
That card with transfigure just found a home in some of my decks, already. His ability is absurd, but my b/g deck would like to see that card. Sac, search, bring back, sac, search, bring back etc...

I love Venser's versatility. He's such a fantastic tempo card. He's an instant speed blocker with a built in combat trick. He's a maindeck boomerang that can swing for two and he's a fantastic tempo counterspell in desperate times. He can stop a hellbent demonfire for a turn as well, which is very handy these days.
I also love the fact that he is a wizard. He goes so nicely with voidmage prodigy.
I see myself as more green than white. I think of green qualities as not so much being in touch with nature, but being . . . in touch with surroundings, sensations, and feelings I suppose? For instance, in Magic, blue is aligned with intellect and philosophy, and green is aligned with intuition and mysticism/meditation. Blue is about contemplation, whether analytical, synthetical, aesthetic, etc. Green is more about observation and appreciation - such as seeing the world the way it is, and appreciating it just for that. Blue is aligned with ideals, where as green is aligned with perception of reality. I think of sensitivity to underdogs (such as endangered species, minorities, etc.), embrace of instincts, sensuality, non-goal oriented thought, realism, frank honesty, and sense of one's environment (whether socially or ecologically) as being green qualities.
I see myself as being a mix of blue and green qualities. I'm kind of cerebral and "thikerish," and I like to come up with ideas. I'm idealistic, invidividualistic, and think about possibilities a lot. I'm also green in that I tend more towards my intution than intellect when it comes to making choices, and that I tend to be aware of my surroundings. I guess in a way, I see myself at the crux - more the "imagination, fantasy, creation" aspect of blue than the "knowldge, logic, analysis" aspect. More Simic than Izzet.
My views of the colors might be a bit different than the popular views, though. Admittedly, I don't often have the same aesthetic as others.
I also see a bit of red in myself, but only the emotional, romantic aspect - not the impulsive or high energy aspect. Even though ever since I was a child I've liked moving and expressing through movement, and am easily excitable. I think there must be some in there.
I think I do have some white, like Joyd. I value social justice, beneficent order, community, and togetherness. I'm not too black, though, but black is hard to make clear conclusions about. I'm not pragmatic in the conventional sense that I'll do anything to get what I want. I think I agree with Joyd about being black.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. His ability to return a spell to its owner's hand could certain function like a hard counterspell in some situations, much like Remand can. But I'm not sure how he enables that in any special way. Would you mind elaborating a bit?
As for Venser, I find him exciting. That's a very nice, and elegant, package of abilities, at a reasonable price. He's a nice addition to any Wizard based strategy, as Sharazard pointed out, he can be blinked and bounced, and goes well with Teferi and Mystical Teachings. Also, he's arguably greater in power than Man-o-War, which was a good card. I hope I get some copies. *squees*
I also find Transfigure appealing. It's got a neat feel to it. I'm interested in seeing how creatively that could be applied.
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Thank you for remembering Man-o-war. I used to use him way back in my :symu::symr: seismic assault deck, I simply couldn't remember the name.
Edit 1: I chose to be the third color on my card for somewhat similar reasons. I can be very cerebral for the most part, but when I am moved I am moved. I also have a temper. It's rare, but I can become very red during these times.
Edit 2: I just realized something. People have finally gotten out of the habit of saying "strictly better" every other scentence when reviewing new cards. Reading card reviews is strictly better then it used to be.
Edit 3: Nite nite Cecilia. I'm going to make some earl grey and read a bit before sleep, so I'll see you all later.
I remember seeing man-o-war in a world champion type 2 deck way back in the day it was a recurring nightmare survival deck it was a pretty cool deck. Somehow afterall of these years it made its way to legacy apparently and top 8 at one of the biggest legacy tournaments ever Grand prix lille pretty impressive I may add even though it was about 2 years ago which is still not that outdated considering the metagame hasnt really changed that much other then the drop of top 8 of the big 3(threshold, goblins, and solidarity) but that was expected. Although nowadays the metagame is shifting towards aggro and aggro-control which explains all of those fish decks running around and placing pretty well at alot of legacy tournaments.
Here is a for you mamelon for post 5000! Congrats on the post and see you soon mamelon and have a great day tommorrow. *hugs*
@Shaharazad: Goodnight to you as well.
I am probably green and blue mixed possibly im not sure though. Well goodnight everyone i need to get some sleep have to be up kind of early tommorrow to go to work. See you all tommorrow have an great night everyone and good week everyone as well! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
I seem to have originally misread the article; somehow I got out of that that returning a spell to it's owner's hand was more or less tantamount to returning a token to its owner's hand, but looking at the actual wording of Remand, it seems that Venser really is 'merely' a Remand, not a counterspell. He's still pretty disgusting; Man-o-War is perhaps the best-known tempo spell of all time; Venser costs U more, but has flash and can hit spells and non-creature permanents. My bad.
Happy Monday coffee-folk #_# spring break is over
not sure where the color thing started but let me give it a shot
Ideally(how i see myself), I would say I'm very green-blue-black, in that I have a good sense of the world around me, good intuition (green), I'm very logical and Analytical,(Blue) and have a great value for history (Green and Blue kinda) and can be ruthless to get what i want, and will step on others when necessary(Black)
Realistically however, I feel I am more Red/Blue/Green, in that I care greatly about those close to me and don't give a damn for anyone else, I'm also very emotionally driven and have grown suspicious of my own over-analiticy(is that a word?) and trust my emotions first and foremost. I also tend to wear my emotions on my sleeve and although theres normally a thousand sub-layers of thought processes going on, its fairly easy to tell at least generally how I'm feeling. Although i hate to admit it, I'm at least a bit red ^_^;;;
Also, I still need my PCL packs...

The "what color are you" discussion is funny to me because I liken it to the "what alignment are you" topic that always comes up in D&D playgroups and such. There's no real answer, because you're taking imaginary concepts and trying to fit them in with real world sensibilities. In any case I'm most definitely green/red. I'm inexorably tied to my emotions and am pretty bombastic, tending to act first and think later. Everything is personal to me. I hate gray areas in life and avoid them like the plague when I can. As for the green side of me...it's too much to get into, but suffice to say empathy, caring for other living things as much as possible, and stopping to smell the roses are very, very large parts of how I live.
Venser doesn't scare me, to be honest. I don't really find his ability all that exciting because it's everything we've seen before in blue. He's an annoying counterspell and a mediocre creature all in one. Whoopie.
Transfigure is great, though, and I hope it's as much a green mechanic as a black one.

At this time, Transfigure is only going to be appearing on the one card, Fleshwrither. It's merely a preview, as it were. We'll have to wait for the future to see more transfigure cards. Considering Transfigure is an evolution of Transmute, I wouldn't be surprised if it was limited to UB cards.
I'm really hoping to see my favorite mechanic again- Imprint. Or at least a new imagining of it.

I agree, Ethersphere, completely. This is a functionally impossible concept. It's not realistic because fictional characters tend to be exaggerations of human nature.

@Color discussion - I am definitely white. I value organization and order very highly. You could find traces of blue, also - everything I ever worked with and plan to work with in the future has to do with creativity. Finally, I figure I have a touch of black, because I can be very selfish at times. I'm not emotional enough to be considered red (though I have been), and come to think of it, I don't think anything about me even remotely relates to green.

I go to Spain on Saturday, with little more Spanish than being able to say hello, count to 10, and anything that Bumblebee Man says. I don't think "una candelabra precarioso" is going to be of much use, so it could be an interesting few days.
I think all you would really need in a Spanish vacation is "chica, te quiero" and "donde es la playa?".
Any chance you'll be stopping in Santiago de Compostela? I got at least three good friends currently there (one of which is moving to Brighton soon, by the way).
Imprint has no innate power level whatsoever - it's a very, very loose mechanic. It's not like you say 'a card with imprint costs one more than it would otherwise', like you might be able to say for flying or graft or whatever.
Like the D&D alignment system, I think that the 'what color are you' system works best if you don't imagine it in absolutes; even the fictional characters in the Magic storyline that are strongly aligned with one color or another don't act exclusively in line with that color's core philosophy, and they're fictional characters with exaggerated personalities. I could say I'm RGWU, but it's probably simpler to just say that I'm white, since I believe that that's pronounced more strongly than the other colors.

Wait, imprint was broken? When?
I would love to see it again, like Rick Corgan said, on non-artifacts. Maybe something like:
Imprint Paladin 2WW
Creature- Paladin
First strike
Imprint- When ~ comes into play, you may remove a non-land card in your hand from the game.
~ has protection from all the colors of the imprinted card.
2/2
Or maybe
Imprint Elf 1G
Creature- Elf Druid
Imprint- When ~ comes into play, remove a land card in your hand from the game.
T: Add one mana of the colors the imprinted land could produce to your mana pool.
1/1

Good morning everyone. I am probably going to get ready for work in like an hour from now. I work 5 days straight this week which is going to be draining but at least i have this saturday and sunday off and i enjoy working there as well. Well I am going to take off for now and have a good day everyone. See you all when i come back later tonight. *hugs and blows kisses*
well, broken not so much, wrong way to put it. I should have said that you have to be careful with it. There are ways to make it bad if you don't handle it right, and ways to make it too good
but then again, that's true for just about everything else. Disregard my earlier comment as the ramblings of a tired and confused man

How was everyone's Easter today, for those of you who observe?
Pretty good. Not too much chocolate and way too much sugary/jellybean/peep type candy for me, but whatever. I got to see my relatives in WV again, which is always nice.
Right now, I'm off work for the day - they ran out of records to call again. Bleh. I'll have to make it up later in the week I guess. However, I don't care because for this week's banner/sig contest, the theme is (and no, I'm not making this up)... Anime! Really! I'm so excited. It's an odd week too, because we have to make a vertical banner (100x600 instead of 600x100). I'm not sure what I'll make, but I'll definitely have fun with it.
Venser, huh? Guess I'll have to run and check the rumor mill.
Oh, and before I forget, congrats to Mamelon for post 5000! We have 'till the 18th, right? Think we can get this thread to the legendary "over NINE THOUSAND!!!!"?

Oh, don't worry. As soon as MaRo writes another article with a buzzword in it people will be throwing it around everywhere too. Remember when he wrote about "grokkability"? For, like, two weeks everyone's comments said "this card isn't very grokkable" and now...nothin'.
You'll find it squishy and absorbant. Unfortunately for you, once your foot is firmly imbedded in my butt it will be quite impossible to remove it. Granted, you shall experience a surge of strength and durability, but it is merely part of the process in which I assimilate your powers as my own. This will erase any competitive advantage you may have had in the contest. I'm sorry to inform you my victory is inevitable...

So, what do we think of the rumor of the blue counterspell pact- i.e. 0 mana hard counter that has "at your next upkeep, pay (random cost) or lose the game"? New FoW, or not?

@Imprint: A blessing a curse that mechanic was. So good but so crazy because of its use in artifacts... I'd like to see something like this at least tho:
Imprint Grafter :1mana::symu::symg:
Enchantment
Imprint - When ~ comes into play, remove a creature card in your hand from the game.
:2mana::symu::symg:: Target creature gains all abilities of the imprinted creature card.
That'd be awesome.... Especially to trickily give opponent's creatures bad upkeep abilities.
@Disrupting Pact: I no likey. Yeah it's good late game when you wanna tap out to play your game winning creature but only then as its bad if you have the open mana to play your other counter in hand. It's Wish worthy in extended and legacy however but not a 4-of, IMO, in standard.
And besides - with all the flash creatures out there's less and less creatures you're want to use this with (besides the Akroma sisters at least).
As for the card I'm most looking forward to use - that would have to be Cheese (AKA Barren Glory)
My card would be :symu::symr::symg: (though, I hate green in magic)
White - I'd probably agree that I'm more white than anything else by a fair margin.
1/1
Oh Joyd. You'll always be RGWU to me.
Love,
Cecilia
but then again, that's true for just about everything else. Disregard my earlier comment as the ramblings of a tired and confused man
You don't say? And here I was all ready to pick Planar Chaos.
Current New Favorite Person™: Mallory Archer
She knows why.
...
I...
... er...
Yeah.
God, I hope not. That wouldn't be very grokkable at all.
So, what do we think of the rumor of the blue counterspell pact- i.e. 0 mana hard counter that has "at your next upkeep, pay (random cost) or lose the game"? New FoW, or not?
Imprint Grafter :1mana::symu::symg:
