Here's a silly idea: what about something like a handicap in bowling? Those who have winning records get an increased challenge by reducing their starting life totals or hand sizes, or those with losing records get a boost in starting total and handsize? Dunno...just a thought. I'm trying to be a helpful idea guy.
That sounds like it could really work, Kraj. I'll put in my vote for a handicap system. Is anyone else willing to try it out for a while, see if it works out?

That is a silly little idea... It's like Vanguard without the Vanguards. I sorta like it but at the same time I don't. It's a novel little idea at least.
As for the "buying" cards - well I'm for it as it'll give us something to do with those horrible commons and fairly bad rares we keep getting. Besides there comes a point where, especially since we're going to Legacy now, Seal of Doom just ain't gonna cut it. It does seem a little complicated tho so I see the point of what Tanthalas was saying.
Besides there comes a point where, especially since we're going to Legacy now, Seal of Doom just ain't gonna cut it.
And that's what I HATE about introducing older cards into the whole thing. The fact that if I want to play with, say, Keening Banshee, it'll most certainly be trampled by something older and broken. I greatly enjoy building decks that are as close to Standard as I can possibly get them, so I'm afraid that everyone having access to this old cheese will put me in an even worse position than I was already in. Aw well.
The thought just occured to me that the nice thing about trying a handicap system is that you don't have to mess with cardpools, which also means you don't have to start over and if you decide the system sucks you can ditch it without having wrecked the 'meta' in the process.

I really think it's worth trying, at least for a little while to see if it works out. I mean, it could be just the thing we need and we'd never know it if we didn't give it a chance.
Dalton is nice, to me, because he's this midway between Connery and Brosnan. Brosnan is the guy I grew up with, so I'm sort of partial to him. I think he got the "Suave" right, though not enough ass-kickery.
Some of my favorite actors (Christopher Lee, Christopher Walken) were in older Bond movies, I now find, and that makes them so much coolr to me.
I'm a fan of the "Vanguard" ideas for tier changes. I'd also like to just shut down win/losses publicly and just keep the records. It doesn't really matter who you won against, just that you won.

Yeah. Too bad Walken was in the all-time worst Bond movie, though. Sure, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and From Russia With Love were pretty boring. Sure, License to Kill and The Living Daylights were best forgotten. But View to a Kill was the biggest pile of suck with the lamest villains and worst dialogue ever.

It isn't even supposed to matter that you won, really. I mean, it's nice to be able to see it sitting in the thread there, but I always thought that advertising it in a competitive way for a casual league wasn't necessarily healthy.
I want to try out my "Ideal Green" deck if anyone's up for MWS - not Precon, just casual. I have some time to kill before Josh gets home. If anyone wants to play, PM me and I'll host.
Calm down people... I think this PCL thing is getting waaay out of hand...
FL, you know you can talk to us..
and I'm applying for a job at the Library of Congress for this summer... I'm reeeally hoping I get it..
Sean Connery simply kicks ass in my opinion..
I'm just cranky right now cuz i want to get stuff done.. Such as filling out the applications for the job, writing my story for the campus-wide short story contest... getting a withdraw form signed...
well, first of all,
1) Working on the applications for the Library of Congress Internship
2) Asking my former boss at RIT's Library to write a recommendation letter for me
3) Getting my department head to sign a withdraw form for Walking for Fitness
4) Get an online transcript from the registrar's office
5) Eat lunch
6) Work on my story
7) Do research and consideration for my Senior Thesis
8) other crap
w00t, cookie. Too bad I'm dieting and cutting out processed sugars. I'll give it to Josh =)
We're perfectly calm, Danica; we're just trying to talk things out. There really is a problem with the league and we're trying to fix it as best we can.
Random question: Does anyone else in the 'house listen to Audioslave? If so, what do you think of their last album, "Revelations?" I have to say...it isn't as good as I'd hoped. Of course, I'm one of those people who jumped to Audioslave hoping for Soundgarden part 2, so yeah.
On a related note, it isn't too long before Chris Cornell's second album is out. I'm almost giddy!
I've been lulling over all of this at work, and I'm in favor of doing 3 major things:
1) Recording matches ==> Thrown out. If you want to chart your own progress on the league thread, go right ahead. Otherwise, it's embarrassing and discouraging to see everyone else's winning records.
2) Buying cards ==> Thrown out. If you're gonna buy cards, they're gonna be in packs. That being said, I like the idea of earning credit to buy a pack. Here's my suggestion: Every week, you are allowed to get 2 packs of your choice: One from Extended, one from Legacy. If you play in at least one match during the week, you may contact me and I will send you another Extended-legal pack. But 3 packs per week is the maximum you'll be allowed to get.
3) Special packs will be 2 rares, 4 uncommons, and 8 commons that you need, but you can't have more than 1 of a single rare, 2 of a single uncommon, and 3 of a single common. Remember, they're monthly, so be very careful what you pick.
Bond: I don't like Roger Moore. The late 70s-80s was really the wrong time to make a Bond film, at least with Roger Moore. In my view, it's
-Connery
-Brosnan
-Dalton
-Moore
Every other Bond hasn't even hit my map, mostly because I haven't seen the others.
ninjedit: Hey Omna! I was weeding out books from the library today in the Monographs department, and I found the perfect book for you. As soon as it's shelved to be 'disposed of', I'm gonna make it vanish and send it to you straightaway!
I'm in favor of all of that, Alacar. I think that if the win/loss recordings stop, maybe the atmosphere will lighten up a bit around the league, y'know?
Now the issue is whether or not we reset everything. Like I said, I really don't want to have to do that because of the deck I have and how good it is, but I dunno.
@nai: yeah ill come back i still want to keep all of my cards though that i have in the pcl. I just want to not be in the precon league for a couple of weeks since ive been pretty busy with work.
@omna: don't worry omna im sure alacar has everything under control.
@legacy changing thing in the precon league: Well i dont think it will matter much because me and alacar play casual legacy all of the time and thats what the precon league is now anyway is casual legacy. Just as long people don't want to play the decks I am seeing at legacy tournaments everything should still be about the same as the old precon league.
Well i am going to get ready for work in about 4 hours see you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses* Have a great day everyone!
I think the issue is that people are intimidated by the term 'Legacy'. If you've played casual at all, you know that your decks really don't fit extended unless you're a newer player, since you got stuff from Masques block on backward. That's what I want for the PCL. I want players to be able to dip back into the old pools and come up with fun decks, not competitive ones.
I am seriously considering banning the following sets from choices:
-Alpha
-Beta
-Unlimited
Fourth Edition I'm not 100% on, but 5th is fine.
As for keeping your decks and what not.. if we do what I suggested above, then I don't see why you shouldn't be able to keep what you have. Remember, you can still 'turn in' 2 packs for 1. It's a loss but it'll let you dip into the older sets.
The only issue is people who start over--they will be at a disadvantage. How do we solve that issue?
I think I'll hang back for this precon. No offense, but I never played legacy and would rather do something I know more of like extended or something.
But, I am, however up for some MWS. I want to play using one of the PLC Precons so I get a bit better feel for the set. Let me know if you want to play.
Not much else going on here. Since my Mediator challenge hit the brick wall that is Velius, I might give it a break and start playing Tales of Symphonia. I haven't started it yet and I'm not sure how much time I'll have to play it with 8-hour work schedules at least Friday and Saturday. I have a strong suspicion that I'll be working Sunday as well, because its the first of the month and the busiest day. I just hope that's not 8 hours.
Edit: Ironic that Alacar mentioned intimidation, and then I post about Legacy.

Well i find your point trade card system to be a great idea alacar and it seems quite fair to me considering everybody has the same amount of commons, uncommons, and rares and what not. Yeah alot of people are intimitadated by the term legacy thats why yoda of legacy is here. I mean I admit that i was intimitadated by legacy like a 3-4 years ago as well its a good thing i had a great teacher like Belgareth who is probably still the best player i played against even after the 57 player tournament to teach me all about legacy.
Although i was just kidding about building solidarity so sorry if i scared you shadowfox :(. Ill probably stick with azorious i think im going to go a fish route but alot less extreme then the fish decks i played against at the last starcity games tournament.
I'd suggest nixing 4th. 75% of the set is total junk, 20% is decent stuff that's available in later sets anyway, and the last 5% is a collection of "unfun" nasties like:
Armageddon
Balance
Black Vise
Channel
Dark Ritual
Land Tax
Lightning Bolt
Stasis
Strip Mine
Swords to Plowshares

I swear, if I EVER go up against Stasis I will rip it in half. I hate that card; I think it and Counterspell are solely responsible for the intense hatred of blue I foster. I learned to play around Stasis when I first got into MTG, but believe me it wasn't nice. *Seethe*
If I get to keep my deck and collection, then I don't really give a damn what we do, frankly. I just want to keep working toward Ideal Green is all. It seems fun enough to play, but I just played 'Fox and never got a SINGLE Warden or Foundry. Blah.
Like I've been trying to say, don't be scared when I say 'Legacy'. It's just a term to describe what's on the banned/restricted list, and what sets are up for grabs. It's casual play, people. I expect a good number of people to go after Extended stuff anyways. I'm still going for Fifth Dawn next week.
Good point, Kraj and Kev. Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, and Fourth are banned from selection.
edit: I'm up for a game of PCL, ironically enough.
Well, I'm dipping into Mirrodin and Kamigawa for Foundrys and Warclubs, but that's about as far as it goes for me. Although now thanks to 'Fox I want some Recurring Nightmares =P

hehe if you like recurring nightmares i have a real treat for you ether in the next legacy deck of the week which i will either post later tonight or tommorrow. You might find it quite pleasing to your eye too. Im yoda of legacy i know all! wow im sounding more like belgareth now.
Personally, for my Domain deck, most of what I want is in Extended anyways--but it'll be fun to dip back into Urza block and such for what I can find. Heck, even LEGENDS would be fun to add.
If anyone wants to play MWS, PCL or otherwise, gimme a holler. I got 3 hours until my 2nd driving lesson.
Regarding PCL: I like the ideas for the most part. Very good stuff. And after taking out the "buying" of cards we have basically a very small tweak to the old system with a format change. Now for decks like mine this would normally mean I'd be saying "Alliances!" for the very spikish Force of Will but I think I'm gonna avoid those. Why? 1) They're just unfun to play against (and in some case to actually play) in a casual format and 2) Why would I want the rest of the junk that's in that set (keeping in mind I'm in URw)? Sure there's stuff like Pillage and Guerrila Tactics but neither I really need ya know?
I do have one last funny question to ask: Are we allowed to request Portal sets? I only ask because I'd like some of those funky legends from P3K.
Mr. Stuff, now I can't stop listening to the Sakura Wars theme song.
I'm a litle confused by all thew PCL rules, but I'll sort them out. So do we keep our old boosters, or don't we?
I still really like Greg's idea bout getting a card of your choice for losing a lot, and extra packs for winning a lot.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Also, probably the best anime opening ever, imo, is this one from Eureka SeveN.
I don't know about that... In terms of just plain beautiful art effects, I really like this opening from Nodame Cantabile. It looks as good as some of your banners do.
This setup does seem to be rather complicated, and the problem of favoring people who play a lot emerges.
What about, instead of using a point system, simply at the end of each week if you have a winning record you get an additional pack of your choice. If you have a losing record you get 1 rare or 2 uncommons or 4 commons of your choice?
Something like that to keep it simple but also to help those who are struggling with their decks.
Liking this idea. There is a danger of "tanking" just to get a certain rare you want, but it at least it doesn't involve points.

Also, I think I will be starting over... I just have to pick a deck. I'll be back once I do some research.
