Sakura, you said you were interested in reading poetry I'd written. This is something that I wrote one time, feelings I just wanted to put down in words, as I sometimes do. It's free verse, and the rhythm isn't that strong or innovative, and I'm not even sure anyone else would see meaning in it. But I thought you might like it, and even feel something in it.
There's something caught between my eyes
When I see it flaring
Like a thunder that I can't forgive
Because it never clears.
I'm walking somewhere, pale as flame
That muffles every sound
It's like a warmer face of grey
More somnolent than grim.
That darkness isn't void of light,
but neutralysis of hue.
With only soft-brushed memory
Left wrapped around my thumb.
Light, the recognition echo
A blur as vague as tears
Something clear was never found
To let itself come through.
Why is it that I feel so light
When I'm looking there?
If I'm crying, it's just because
I've wondered where it's been.
It's hazy what I thought it meant
Softening into shape
As no one's ever seen my face
I've always been away.
Of course, I'd welcome constructive criticism, from anyone that reads it. But be gentle.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
300 is the only movie I've ever watched that was worth paying $8 (USD) at the theater for. It was great, but I won't comment much more since some probably haven't watched it yet.
Sakura, Lilly, and Mams...it seems you have quite a support group among the three of you. I hope things continue to improve. I can't comment much beyond that simply because I haven't the slightest idea what to say that wasn't already. I consider each of you my friends and my extended family, which means my support is with you.

Thanks! I guess it is pretty unconventional, at least in its theme. I felt this one was a bit more cohesive than most of my other poems.

You'll, naturally, tell anyone who asks you bumped it on the stove as you opened the door too suddenly, and I'll make hollow promises that it will never happen again- and our public image shall be preserved evermore.
@300: Glad to see you liked the movie. I saw it too but I'm not gonna spoilerize anything... Just wanna say I came in expecting violence but not so many headless people... It felt a little like God of War in some spots, if a movie could ever be compared to a video game.
@Combos: Add in a few mana producing elves and a little LftL and you got yourself never ending Armageddon!
And I totally agree on that sentiment. I think my two favorite combo decks are still Tunnel Vision (had a ton of little combos with that card) and my old Faces of the Past, Ambush Commander, Artificial Evolution, and Centaur Glade deck. Now THAT'S a long combo to pull off but I did get it a couple times. Usually pumping infinitely with infinite creatures... I may have to try it with a certain spoiled card from Future Sight that cut two cards from that combo. Three cards is much more managable than four.
Edit: @Mamelon: The movie 300 is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller (which was in turn based of another film). It basically entails the Battle of Thermopylae from the viewpoint of the spartans. Mind you it's not entirely historically accurate as many of the parts of the movie are exaggerated (partly from viewpoint bias, partly from trying to make the movie highly entertaining). It still was a very good movie given what it is.

It's Mamelon, actually.
The issue is really more of a reverse- you end up with people with arbitrarily high post counts who seem to think that having hit submit 2000+ times means that they either A) innately deserve some higher form of respect, or B) that being active and contributing are one and the same, and thus their thousands of posts makes them sort of of vital part of the community, and they should be given weight over members with lower post counts.
So at the end of the day, it fosters something of an elitist attitude, but the truth of the matter is that people on the internet- especially kids- tend to have that sort of attitude anyway, and they would find a new way to do it even if post counts were removed.

No, I actually don't give a damn.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not picketing for their removal, but by the same token, I'm not jumping to their defense, either. Some people do enjoy them and they aren't elitist *******s about it, so I think that in itself is enough reason to leave them untouched- especially considering the fact that arrogance will always find it's way into communities like this. If it weren't postcount, it would be join date- if not join date, then who knows, maybe limited rating. Or ***** size. All I know is, people will find the stupidest things to get uppity about, and I think the existence of post count exploits and post count drama proves this.
Edit: Incidentally, the reason I have a high post count is because I like to talk a lot. Hell, my first word was "Hmmm, I don't really share your opinions, but I would be delighted to discuss this matter further in the sandbox with you and the teething ring with the yellow ducks on it."
Also, since I just can't let Mamelon share something without doing the same-
And now I meditate upon my youth
Ah youth, the secret enemy
A child's assumption is that the world is his own
A plump comestible for his consumption
Trembling, sweating, virginal
Ah, thus the innocent monster stalks his prey
A dearth of erudition breeds cruelty
An innocent adversity sires voracity
And now I meditate upon the garden
Ah desire, how you have undone us all!
With but a taste, we are born in hunger
The world a museum of sustenance!
Longing, craving, grasping
We attain beyond all thresholds of reason
Satisfaction's impossible standard
Leads to the evolution of the new parasite
We are built upon those we have devoured
Ever living within our conquerors
A spiral staircase of yearning awaits us
Built upon the bones of the earth
Blood! Choler! Phlegm! Melancholera!
All four humors, I devour!
Skin, Nerve, Muscle, Bone!
All the tissues, I devour!
Man, Woman, Infant, Child!
All of Adam, I devour!
Philosophy, Art, Religion, Science!
All of humanity, I shall devour!
And as I spare none, I spare not myself!
Slowly, I ingest my world
Surely, I reduce it all to nourishment
Nutrients, elements, particles, atoms
For in consumption, there is a sacred nothing
A holy truth of abortive vanity
A useless conglomeration of pieces
The coming together of a truly hideous bagatelle!
I'll warn you, my style is ... well, esoteric. I like to write from the perspective of other people. This particular piece is written from the viewpoint of a certain woman, one who was very selfish and very self destructive. She really was very fascinating, as she strove to be very liberated and free from all obligation, but ultimately was a slave to her own vices.
Also, @Dreia: I meant to comment last night- I really enjoy your banner. The quote is really quite thought provoking, and the imagery is very decadent. I like it a good deal more than most banners I have seen on this site.
Some genius thought it would be funny to lock my custom title so that I can't change it. Aw well, I'm a good sport =P
I won't share my poetry outright because it's all linked to in my signature anyway. I've had a sneaking suspicion that nobody pays attention to it, but yeah.
So I picked up Pokemon Ruby again yesterday because I'd been watching a lot of the shows and movies recently and the bug bit me, so to speak. If I can get past all the little things that really bother me about the franchise, maybe I'll actually get somewhere this time.
EDIT: Wait, no, I'm an idiot. I can change my custom >_<;;
Morning, everyone. Well everyone has been talking about the movie 300, so I finally went to see it last night (barely, they're *****es about age; I'm 16 1/2 years old, and I could barely get in). Let me tell you, it was really awesome, although, I don't think everyone would like it (i.e. my parents :p). 300 is the kind of movie that you have to go see in the theaters if you are going to see it. The effects are amazing, and it is just a really cool movie all in all. There's not really much of a plot, but the entire premise is cool nonetheless. I give it a 4.5/5.
@Mamelon: That poem is beautiful. Care to tell us what it is about or what went into writing it? I'm always curious as to what is going through a poet's mind when they write a poem.
@Post Count: Meh, the only reason I care about it is because it seems like people respect you more if you have a high post count. I know that shouldn't be the case, but it is, and I used to hate being ignored because I had less that 1K posts. Oh, and the custom title is nice too :D.
Oh, and I'm going to start putting what happens with the girl in spoilers, because I really don't care if people read it that much, but I want to put it down somewhere. Read it if you want, I don't really care.
So on Friday night at like 8:00 she calls me because she is driving by and wants to drive over and say hi. So she does come over and we were just talking for a while about random stuff, and then she had to leave. I know it doesn't sound like much, but she had never done anything like that before, and it really showed me that she cared for me and she wanted to hang out with me. I don't know, maybe she just thinks of me as a better friend now, but maybe, just maybe, she is starting to be attracted to me. I can always hope, I guess.
Oh, and she sent me a text message that basically said that if someone gave her a choice of hanging out with me or drinking with her other friends, she would pick me in a heartbeat. That made me feel pretty good.

I don't know about that. I don't so much think people get respect in as much as they get lip service paid to them. Also, I think it is just an intuitive thing for new members to sort of revere established members, and even if post counts were gone, people would still end up doing it for some reason or another.
I feel like I wasn't ignored when I had a low post count, but I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I joined in March, 2006, and ended up becoming a regular fixture here in April, so I found my niche quickly. Additionally, being friendly with other people, like SapphireTri and Yukora, probably didn't hurt.
Also, if you haven't noticed, I'm pushy and loud and often demand attention, so I generally don't feel ignored very often.
If I were you, that entire girl situation would make me uncomfortable, but I'm not really the best person to ask for advice in that sort of situation. I'm never really comfortable maintaining just a friendship with someone I am attracted to, and I have had a bad history of getting entangled with friends, so if I were you, I would have probably already erected some sort of emotional wall. You shouldn't do that, though. It's really not very healthy. It sounds like she does, at the very least, value your friendship. I wouldn't read too much into it at the moment, but it does seem to be a good omen that she wants to spend time with you.
I just don't think that removing post counts will actually help anything. I said in that thread that if you get rid of them, people will find other things tobe elitist morons about, so there's really no reason to change the way things work. At least there isn't if all you have is a conjecture that it might be different.
Also, I'm proud of my post count. Not for the same reasons as the spam-mongers, but because it's a display of how much I've contributed to the forums. Sure, putting it in my profile and not the item bar next to my posts won't take it away, per se, but yeah.
Hell, post count has never impressed me as being important because I'm nearing 1400 and I still get ignored or looked over in places. I attribute this to the forum phenomena of "nice people are easily ignored" most of the time.
*winces in preparation for a waffle iron, or a hug*
Good to hear about that girl, SB. You're in the red zone--go for it!
Mamelon: I love the poem. As you said, you write in a very metaphoric tone.
...yours too Photon
And a forum game we can play?? Ooh!
Sakura, hope your hangover isn't harsh..
Nai, get better soon! *hugs*
Post counts: If you've been following the debate thread on Speak Your Mind, you know my position. I honestly think that post counts are good. People sometimes like to see that they've hit 500 or 1,000 (especially 1000 for the custom title). It's the ***es that spam just to pump it up or go ZOMG LOOK AT MY ####s OF PSOTS that we have to be worried about. The number's innocent.
Looks like today I'm gonna get an iPod. I was wanting to get a nano--does anyone have any praise for the larger 30GB one? I dunno if I can handle that much space to hold my songs and stuff.

I think that if you can afford more space, get the bigger one. It never hurts to have extra storage space. Of course, I tend to hoard music in excess.

I would only buy a Nano if you want to watch it break, Alacar. Those things are so flimsy it isn't even funny. Go with the 30g iPod, or better yet an Mp3 player not made by Apple =P
Actually, ether, contrary to popular belief, the iPod nano is surprisingly resilient, but prone to scratches (which can be removed easily). The 30Gig.. I dunno. It'd be cool to have ALL MY MUSIC AND EVERYTHING on it, which would still only fill about half of it up, but I don't need my Star Wars and LotR audio books on there, do I? I got the nano because it's small, sleek, durable, and fits only the music I want. I had it for 1.5 years without it ever breaking on me.

The nano's durability has always seemed to be a case of "your mileage may vary", as many people I know with nanos have had awful experiences with them, and I have read many reviews that claim it is fragile- but for each of those, I have also heard the exact opposite.
By the way, while the topic of poetry is still somewhat relevant, does anyone have any words that they find to be particularly poetic? My favorite word in the English language is the word "perhaps." I just feel that it is the most beautiful combination of syllables and letters, and it has a certain poignancy to it that I find to be very attractive.
Still, regardless, even without my audio books I only have about 11GB of songs in total. Is that worth a 30GB, $250 iPod? Maybe, but I had a good experience with my last nano. So I'll see about maybe getting a 4GB nano to make up for it. That leaves 7GB left not on it, but I'm not worried. I'll see what my selection is, how much they are, when I get to the store.

What was that idea for a game, Photon?
The idea was actually a lot like the last game idea I came up with- post some info on an anonymous regular, and have everyone try and guess who the information is about.
Now that I think about it, we did something like that before, and I'm not sure how well that worked out- although, last time we did it, it was with a slew of people at once, instead of focusing on one person.

Yeah last time it was a bit crazy because it was everyone guessing on everyone else. I think doing one person at a time would be more fun (and managable)
Also, later on tonight I'm going to a geek cookout. Hot dogs and video/card games, oh my!
It really is worth it to get more space than you think you'll need, Alacar. My former Mp3 player was a 20g Dell DJ and I went for a while with only one or two gigs full up, but when I decided to go through ALL my music I almost filled it up. It's at least a good thing to have the memory there just in case, and you can always use it to store things other than music.
Poetic words. Well, I tend to use the words I find most poetic a lot in my own work. I have a thing for the names Adam and Venus - they've come to represent a great deal to me over the years. Words that describe dancing are always very poetic to me, too. The word "waltzing" comes to mind.

Mind you it's not entirely historically accurate as many of the parts of the movie are exaggerated (partly from viewpoint bias, partly from trying to make the movie highly entertaining). It still was a very good movie given what it is.
Post count:I do not see why it should be that big a deal...I just think it shows how active one is.If a member has been one for a year and only has 25 posts...hes not very active...or contributing...imo.

Ahem,sorry mamelon.

Also, since I just can't let Mamelon share something without doing the same-
Ah youth, the secret enemy
A child's assumption is that the world is his own
A plump comestible for his consumption
Trembling, sweating, virginal
Ah, thus the innocent monster stalks his prey
A dearth of erudition breeds cruelty
An innocent adversity sires voracity
And now I meditate upon the garden
Ah desire, how you have undone us all!
With but a taste, we are born in hunger
The world a museum of sustenance!
Longing, craving, grasping
We attain beyond all thresholds of reason
Satisfaction's impossible standard
Leads to the evolution of the new parasite
We are built upon those we have devoured
Ever living within our conquerors
A spiral staircase of yearning awaits us
Built upon the bones of the earth
Blood! Choler! Phlegm! Melancholera!
All four humors, I devour!
Skin, Nerve, Muscle, Bone!
All the tissues, I devour!
Man, Woman, Infant, Child!
All of Adam, I devour!
Philosophy, Art, Religion, Science!
All of humanity, I shall devour!
And as I spare none, I spare not myself!
Slowly, I ingest my world
Surely, I reduce it all to nourishment
Nutrients, elements, particles, atoms
For in consumption, there is a sacred nothing
A holy truth of abortive vanity
A useless conglomeration of pieces
The coming together of a truly hideous bagatelle!
I'll warn you, my style is ... well, esoteric. I like to write from the perspective of other people. This particular piece is written from the viewpoint of a certain woman, one who was very selfish and very self destructive. She really was very fascinating, as she strove to be very liberated and free from all obligation, but ultimately was a slave to her own vices.
Also, @Dreia: I meant to comment last night- I really enjoy your banner. The quote is really quite thought provoking, and the imagery is very decadent. I like it a good deal more than most banners I have seen on this site.
EDIT: Wait, no, I'm an idiot. I can change my custom >_<;;

What sort of sick joke is that?!
I think that if you can afford more space, get the bigger one. It never hurts to have extra storage space. Of course, I tend to hoard music in excess.

Also, later on tonight I'm going to a geek cookout. Hot dogs and video/card games, oh my!

Poetic words. Well, I tend to use the words I find most poetic a lot in my own work. I have a thing for the names Adam and Venus - they've come to represent a great deal to me over the years. Words that describe dancing are always very poetic to me, too. The word "waltzing" comes to mind.
I guess nobody liked my uw control from the stone ages i probably shouldnt post anymore those im jk i bet everybody just completely forgot to comment on it.
@alacar: well have fun at the geek event im sure you will enjoy it. I remember when i used to go to alot of magic the gathering parties and eat pizza while play magic all night long at one of my friend's houses it was alot of fun.
Well i am going to go for awhile. See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Love,
