So wrong..so very wrong...but it would so fun too...;)
I'd give you a for such a crazy character, but I don't have that right when I'm down a hole.
Photon, what do you think of the Book of 9 swords? I'm using it right now as a PC, and I've got to say it is quite fun. DMing it would be interesting, so I'm kinda worried what may happen if I keep using it.
When DM's are dumb enough to let us be broken stuff, I abuse it to its fullest to show them why they shouldn't do that.
'Lo everyone! How is everyone today? I'm doing quite well, personally. I went back up to a place I applied for and I got the papers to take, yet another, drug test. If I get it done soon, I should be able to go for training and orientation this Friday or Saturday, so I believe I GOT MYSELF A JOB! WOO!
Its in a supermarket, but I shouldn't have any problems at all. And I'll be getting paid pretty well. I'm more than likely going to be working more hours than I wanted to, but if they need the help, I can't really say no, can I?
I've got nothing else planned for the rest of the night, except downloading some Anime and/or keep trying to be Balk in the Death City in FFT. SO much hate...
Indeed. I'm proud to say I'll be joining Moss_Elemental and (well, I'll this person speak up for themselves... don't wanna steal anyone's thunder) as a moderator in the Custom Sets & Cards forums. It's a little scary, but I'm excited.
Congrats on the modship then! Hope you enjoy it.
As for the D&D convo, I think I'm gonna have to skip it since I have zero knowledge on this subject...
But regarding the FCC, I think I may be actually moving on. Maybe... I'm highest thus far but there are 5 cards left to be rated and I think at least 4 of them are pretty good compared to the rest of the group.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Congrats on Mod-ship, Kraj!!! That's a pretty big honor, and pretty cool, because I'm on there pretty much. Although, I haven't been on the Contests and Games section as much lately as I used to be. It seems that either my creative juices need refilling or I just don't have time. I'm not really sure.
@Evan: You are stressed about the SAT? Aren't you the one that got a 33 on the ACT?!?!? If so, you have absolutely no reason to be stressed. A score of 33 from the ACT is more than enough to get you into almost any college you want. If your grades are good, which I assume they are, then you have no need to be nervous for the SAT. Just relax, get a lot of sleep, and do your best. Remember, if you don't do well, you can always take it again later. I'm doing it on Saturday too, so I'm here for you, Evan. We can get through this :).
@Kevin: Sorry about the tournament. Hey, sometimes you just have bad luck. I know that you are great at Legacy, so just try again and I'm sure you will do well.
@Crimson: I'd say you have a pretty good chance of getting on. There has got to be at least two cards in that group that are worse than yours, and if so, you will be fine.
And I'm still waiting for Ace to put up my judgings. I really have no idea of my chances this round.
@Book of 9 Swords: It's fun to fool around with, but as a DM with a PC who decided to just dabble in it, it can be a VERY broken book. The only thing worse in my campaign: Mage Bane. I never should have allowed that one in.
@FCC: Crimson, congrats on making the cut! Alacar, I really liked yours too, and thought you should have made it in. I'm still waiting for Zy to post his judgings... I'm so glad to have gotten back into the swing of things after a couple of months off (I signed up for Feb, but was sent out of town for work).
@M:tG: So I decided to play some Type II tonight. I hadn't altered my mono-green stompy build for the new environment, and no one had any trades, so I made a rash decision. I bought the PC reanimator theme deck, made a few alterations (took out the poor white and black cards, added in tome putrifys, additional reanimation targets, etc.) and ran with it. It didn't do as well as it could have. Despite being a "bad" deck, it was very comfortable to pilot. The main problem I found is that with a green base it was often more viable to just hard cast the creature than to bring it back from the graveyard. Perhaps some more adjustments could be made to turn it into a viable "rock" style deck. Hmmm....

Oh, lord, Mind of Mencia. I don't see how that guy qualifies as a comedian at all. He generates no actual humor. It's probably not impossible to be funny by repeating ethnic stereotypes and punctuating it by insisting that anyone who is offended is too uptight or something, but that guy isn't doing it. I mean, he's not like a comedian who isn't very good, where you're not really laughing out loud, but you're kind of amused, and you can see where to jokes are even if they aren't working for you. Mencia doesn't have jokes. His show is like one guy talking, and it just happens to be in the same -format- as stand-up. Lord.

I swear, I'm gonna just quit the FCC thing. The only times I ever got past the first round is when my opponents didn't show up. I'm always half a point from advancing, but I always do something to screw it up. I fail as a card maker. If I had shoe laces, I'd hang myself.:glee: Seriously though, why can't I make better cards?
Also, I'm interested in finding out what it is about the Book of Nine Swords that makes it controversial.
I talked kinda good, could do better. I compete in an event where we get a topic like a quote or a word, then we have 30 seconds prep time, and then must give a speech which can be no longer than 5 minutes. Fast thinking on your feet with ample amounts of BS thrown in.
The Book of 9 swords is a re-created version of the old 'oriental martial arts' styles back in the day (1st & 2nd ed.) Each class is a combat specialist, but instead of feats, rages, smiting, or spells, you have maneuvers and stances that let you do cool things. Most involve damaging your opponent, others involve movement, and other combat related things.
The Maneuvers are like weak spells, but you get them at least once EVERY encounter. You rest 1 minute and BAM your reloaded, or for some you make a single normal attack and your good to go.
There are three new full classes with some cool new PrC's. Three main are: Crusader, Damage soaking divine beatstick, Swordsage, sneaky quick wise damage disher, and Warblade, a smart fighter who uses maneuvers to best advantage. I play a swordsage, who is a mix between ranger, monk, and rogue really, but it is a lot of fun, but can get powerful at later levels.
An example for a maneuver is thus:
Mountain hammer
strike
+2d6 damage on your damage if you hit with this attack. Dr and hardness do not apply.
This is all very basic, and the book uses swift and immediate actions to no end, but overall it's fun and balanced in most occasions. Every once and a while the Bo9S character can do some crazy stuff that no one else could ever dream of, but that is part of the fun.

... So... why have you not been to Natural 20 yet?
It sounds interesting. Are there complaints about the power levels? Because, to me, it seems like it is just giving warrior classes access to a little extra sumpin'-sumpin' that could possibly, just maybe, push them a little closer to the grand brass ring that is the Wizard/Cleric/Druid triumvirate in terms of power.
It sounds a bit like the concept of Combat and Weapon skills that Mamelon is writing for the True 20 system.

I've never wandered in that direction, and have no clue as to which games would be fun, or well run.
There aren't any real power level complaints that I know of, but one group of maneuvers is fairly powerful, but only sword sages can use them. Imagine Dimension Door, every combat, within 50ft, for a standard action, then move, then finally swift. It's the one I use the most. Only the Crusader can really be broke, It takes damage the round after it was given, gets extra damage based on damage taken, and can heal it's self, oh yah and full armor, shields, and reusable maneuvers.
It brings fighters up to a level where they can compete, and gives accutual fighters a reason to continue their class, because you can take feats to gain maneuvers, instead of taking the three spec'd classes.

Well, that manuever doesn't really sound any worse than say, the Blink Shirt soulmeld from the Magic of Incarnum, which lets you basically Dimension Door within a limited range every round at no cost for as long as it is shaped. It sounds crazy, but in the end it ended up passing under the radar without so much as a blip, because things like that sound really potent on paper, but end up paling in comparison to the power of a high level caster anyway (A phenomenon I've seen a lot lately, starting with the Warlock class in Complete Arcane). Doesn't mean they aren't good, though.
Anyway, bedtime for me, and then I'm gone until Thursday. I'm going to try and catch up with my games then, so FE players can expect to resume the madness later this week, now that things are basically moved into place and I've had some downtime.

geckomage, you are hereby ordered to go to Natural 20. Now! And the Pen & Paper Inn.
Favorite Comedian: George Carlin. He's been doing it for 50 years. He's won tony awards. I saw him live in Nashville. His humor is cynical and yet sensible, rough and crude but enlightening and intellectual, while reminding you all the while that he's not trying to change your mind, but make you think. And more importantly, laugh.
So, anyone here watch Mind of Mencia? Frankly, I find his show to be drivel that only reinforces stereotypes instead of breaking them down. This is exactly why George Carlin didn't do a TV show (he did a very short one a while back but it was a sitcom, not a sketch comedy)
Personally, I don't find his show all that offensive or stereotype-reinforcing. I just think it's stupid. I think Comedy Central tried to replace Chappelle's show with one that struck the same chords, and they looked at all the wrong things. Chappelle was offensive. And smart about it. And hilarious. And subtle. He simultaneously celebrated and poked fun at racial differences. Mencia has none of those qualities. Not one. He just says "beaner" over and over and waits for the laughs. I swear to God they must pump nitrous oxide into that studio.
Oh, dear! Don't do that! Designing cards is tricky; it takes lots of practice. And now the first round competition is even tougher. Plenty of experienced and winning card makers are getting knocked out, so don't feel bad. But if you feel like there's really something to design that you just don't get, let me know. I'd be happy to help you out.
And on a completely different subject, for those of you who think opera is not cool, O Fortuna be dammned (incidentally, Alacar, I don't see a link to it. I know it was a Geek MP3 awhile back)... well I'm currently listening to an opera called Ainadamar: Fountain of Tears for the first time. It's in Spanish and is quite unique. One of the tracks is called "Interludio de Balazos y Lamento por la Muerte de Federico", which is far as I can tell is the character of Frederico being executed by firing squad. All the percussion for the song is done by gunfire. Sweet.
