The transition process can become very rough, and very confusing. I haven't even begun, but I do know that just being transgender, at all, can become very rough and confusing. One of the hardest parts is that there is so much conflictory social pressure. We, as people, do need social support, and however autonomous we may be, much of our experience of ourselves is influenced by how other people experience us. Transitioning can be especially difficult because you're having to make a series of largely irreversible, life changing decisions that take a long period of time to complete, and left in the meantime to wonder endlessly if you made the right choice after all - with little to no social support. I imagine that at least part of it is that going through many of these processes can really force to you to come to terms with not only all these facets of your identity, but what your goal essentially amounts to. For example, some transsexuals go into it imagining a beautiful rebirth into his or her ideal form of man or woman. When it ends up not being quite so miraculous, some of those ideas must change quickly, and that can create quite a bit of chaos.

He assumes that the way he felt about this experience, and what happened within him because of it, will be universal, or at least generally the most common. He assumes that most transgender people who attempt to transition will eventually come to their senses and realize the error of their ways, or else live in delusion. There are people who regret it, who have either started the transition or even completed it, and wish they hadn't. These aren't the signs of people living in delusion. There does come a point when you just have to assume that duck really is a duck, and stop trying to claim that it's a quail, or an airplane, or something.

Especially when it just seems that no one understands, no one can really help you or guide you - you may even feel alienated from other transgender people, if you know any. These thoughts bear on your mind, and they feel so pressing that you just can't seem to muster the time, strength, or clarity to simply step back and look at them all in perspective.
Being transgender in the first place is a kind of identity crisis, one which starts very early and almost never seems to be resolved, never seems to end. And it's a pretty mysterious thing to begin with. So it doesn't seem strange at all that he would have conflicting feelings about it, that he would feel opposed with his religion, that he would have some confusion about what he wanted, and why. As always, though, you just need to be able to look at what the situation is to you, what your needs are, and try to deal with them in the most practical, beneficial ways plausible. There are going to be times when it doesn't "feel right." Some people, when going on hormones, almost react as if everything is being made right, as if some deep hurt is being corrected. Others feels weird about it at times, feel a sense of obligation, and may wish to back out. Still others go so far, then completely abandon it. It's just never going to be easy. It's never going to be simple. You know that, Sakura, I'm sure of it.
Religious morality can be a factor, depending on the religion. I obviously don't think that gender reassignment is for everybody, or anywhere near a figure that could be called most people, but I disagree vehemently with the idea that it's not for anybody. Saying that males shouldn't dress, look or act like females, or that females shouldn't try to appear like males, is clear gender normativism, even worse, biological determinism of gender - defining people by their physical characteristics that aren't relevent to what is being defined (such as personality) unless a substantial tie can be established between the factors in question. It's never fair, no matter what one's particular church or sect believes. If even one person has ever gone through such a transition and benefited, then anyone could.

He may be right, in his case. It could be that it really just isn't for him. However, given how you described him and his earlier comments, it did appear that he did have some level of actual gender dysphoria. That doesn't necessarily means he has to transition in any way, but it would mean that he is transgender at least in some sense. But that's a very broad label.
And I don't necessarily agree that you have to be selfish in order to succeed, at least no more than everyone always needs to be to make their own ideas happen. You will have to put yourself first in some conflicts of interest, and what it comes down to is making a decision you need to make even when people disagree with it, because you can't be controlled by others indefinitely. Which can seem very selfish at times, even if it may not be.

Though it's not really a problem for me (I have a massively fragmented personality anyway, so I can quite easily act in slightly different ways depending on who I'm with, without even thinking about it or it being a strain), I can quite easily see how it lets people express themselves with more ease. The main thing, I think, is the lack of physical identification. We tend to make our first impressions in real life based on how somebody looks. Without that inherent bias over the internet, we can make less hasty judgments on people.

OK this has been an interesting morning already. Wake up and find I have to go get the paper from a convience store today because my dad's not feeling that well... Get out there and it turns out one of my friends is having trouble with her kid so I have to corral 'em. Almost get kicked in the nuts (by the kid) for thanks. Then find that, surprisingly, an ebay seller i bought from had his account deleted somehow but I already paid for the auction. Ebay said to file a dispute with paypal and request a chargeback on my credit card. Thankfully I didn't do the latter as it seems he shipped and gave me a USPS tracking number. It does indicate that it was picked up. So now I have to wait till Thursday or so to get that. Oye... I hope its not more interesting than that because I think I'm already confused to the end of my wits.

Secondly, with the one-year anniversary of the clan coming up on 4-19, you may as well just wait until then, and make a new thread to celebrate the first year.
Speaking of the one-year: I'm reading through the old threads. Lately, I've been joking that we ought to call this place "Magic Gender House", since that seems to be the topic that dominates 90% of the time anymore. However, looking back, it's always been this way.
Here is the next legacy deck im going to play with at the next starcity games tournament with around 50-70 players. So far it has been doing really well against any aggro deck in the format. Also seems to be evenly matched against threshold too. I call the deck Alacar's Three of a kind simply because its alacar's deck with some minor tweeks and it can play aggro, aggro-control, or even straight control all in one color white.
It was also pretty cool to see people that play modern legacy decks still find isochron and chant combo can be a potential scoop when playing against the lockdown combo.

Sure, I'll try to get ahold of the parents' digicam. They aren't like, huge, or anything, just a black line-drawing type of sticker for the little triangular part of the back windows that don't open. When you're sitting in the back and look out the window, you can see the "P!" on one side and Panda Z driving his robot on the other. I'm gonna take my Totoro plush from my room and stick him in the back windowsill behind the headrests, too.
Things I still need to order from ebay:
- Totoro fuzzy steering wheel cover and seatbelt cover
- Some kind of car seat covers (only one I could find was Inuyasha, which I refuse to get :()
-possibly some kind of floor mat

"Living a lie" is an idiom. What she means is that we generally live with a barrier between our authentic selves and those around us. This is true of pretty much everybody, but what she's saying is that the barrier is more pronounced in this case in order to continue trying to match expectations that come along with having certain physical features. The sensation is like constantly masquerading as the other sex, only you can't just stop doing it when you want to.
Her experience is that she must hide certain large parts of herself in order not to cause disruption by grossly ignoring or violating peoples' ideas as to what it means to be male or female, which are often very strong. And this is generally what most people go through. As such, she's left "editting" her personality is one some ways, with some things she can't even talk about, can't express, etc. This is typically what is meant if someone says he or she is "living a lie." Someone's body isn't "false," but that's not even the issue. It's that she lives a life characterized by concealing herself, creating great distance between herself and others for protection, which leaves her feeling isolated and misunderstood. Her transition process is meant to ameliorate this.

Yes. Whether it's cisgender or transgender, it does come up a lot. I don't think that's terribly strange. And you know, sometimes it's relevent to one of some of us and what we want to share on one day or another. Yes, it's kind of irritating when one topic seems to come up over and over, but doesn't that happen anyway, in cycles, with all manner of other topics?

Hello everyone! Happy April's Fools! I haven't been gotten so far today, and I don't plan on it for the rest of the day. Anywho, I've started playing more ToS. Pretty good so far, IMO. I think I'm starting to get back into Magic a bit after Crimson's thrashing of the Ixidor precon. I was poking around essentialmagic.com 's deck archive, and I thinking of making a WUB deck. No official idea yet, but I'm looking into a Zur the Enchanter deck. I'll let you know when its done and then we can test it!
For now though, I'm gonna go get some lunch and play more ToS. Bye!

God, I ****ing hate this place on April 1st. I got 2 infractions today. The first is obviously a joke one, but I don't know about the other one. Yeah sure, it's beautiful, but I would have to sit in the very back seat, and I would get carsick, and it would be hot, and I've seen the stupid place like 56000 times. So anyway, at least I'll get the house to myself.

It wasn't really that important. I was just feeling really let down because it doesn't feel like she really has any feelings for me at all. Also, i was just mad at myself for being shy and not talking to her at all about my feelings for her. She drove me to and from the school musical on Friday, so I had a perfect chance to talk to her, but I just couldn't make myself do it. I just love her too much and I wouldn't be able to stand it if I told her my true feelings and she was put off or something. Anyway, that's it, it really wasn't that important and I'm over it now.

I told my ex today that my mother had won the lottery (its at $30 mill) and was sharing with me to help me transition and that I was giving her some for being so supportive. She asked "what lottery did she win?" and I said "The April 1st lottery." and she didn't clue in. Was so funny.

Hey guys. April 1st has been an overall boring day for me, but, that's not always a bad thing given that excitement isn't always a good thing.
As for the gender conversation, I have to say I really don't have much to offer on that topic. I don't feel any negative feelings towards people for whom it is an important subject, but that's one issue that's never really been on my plate. I must admit a lack of education on the matter. I can only say my beliefs on the subject.
I do not believe in the inherent 'evil' of any sexual preference or any issue regarding transgendered individuals or other, similar issues. I believe to my core in the concept of 'to each their own', and feel that unless someone is directly harming another human being, anything they choose to do or believe is entirely within their rights. Other than that I have little education on the matter and cannot state a clear opinion on anything specific.
I just felt I'd get that across.

Edit: Before anyone misparses that as the word "pun", it's a Japanese expression to the equivalent of "boo hoo", used for something you don't like. Pronounced "poo-n poo-n".
I'm obviously no expert in TS cases but from my observations I wouldn't say this exactly. It seems to be more like conflicting truths. That is, both the truth of what your body is on the outside and the truth of what your emotions tell you what you want your body to be. Emotions don't lie and the outside certainly isn't either.
When you put those on the car can we see pictures? That sounds like its gonna look pretty cool, IMO.
The site I posted my fan fiction on has changed its background to barbie-ness for 24 hours as well :laugh2:.

First of all, every time you say you will post a new thread "most likely tomorrow/tonight/etc", the new thread never actually does go up for at LEAST 5 days.
Secondly, with the one-year anniversary of the clan coming up on 4-19, you may as well just wait until then, and make a new thread to celebrate the first year.

Sure, I'll try to get ahold of the parents' digicam. They aren't like, huge, or anything, just a black line-drawing type of sticker for the little triangular part of the back windows that don't open. When you're sitting in the back and look out the window, you can see the "P!" on one side and Panda Z driving his robot on the other. I'm gonna take my Totoro plush from my room and stick him in the back windowsill behind the headrests, too.
Things I still need to order from ebay:
- Totoro fuzzy steering wheel cover and seatbelt cover
- Some kind of car seat covers (only one I could find was Inuyasha, which I refuse to get :()
-possibly some kind of floor mat
- KuroNeko (cat from trigun) fuzzy dice

Yes. Whether it's cisgender or transgender, it does come up a lot. I don't think that's terribly strange. And you know, sometimes it's relevent to one of some of us and what we want to share on one day or another. Yes, it's kind of irritating when one topic seems to come up over and over, but doesn't that happen anyway, in cycles, with all manner of other topics?

So I have to watch two different movie versions of Macbeth today for a school project. That should be fun :rolleyes:. But luckily, it means that I don't have to go on a "scenic drive" with my parents and grandparents to Muir Woods. Yeah sure, it's beautiful, but I would have to sit in the very back seat, and I would get carsick, and it would be hot, and I've seen the stupid place like 56000 times. So anyway, at least I'll get the house to myself.

I told my ex today that my mother had won the lottery (its at $30 mill) and was sharing with me to help me transition and that I was giving her some for being so supportive. She asked "what lottery did she win?" and I said "The April 1st lottery." and she didn't clue in. Was so funny.
By the way. I bought Nezumi a playmate. Cute little girl named Cinnamon.

As for the gender conversation, I have to say I really don't have much to offer on that topic. I don't feel any negative feelings towards people for whom it is an important subject, but that's one issue that's never really been on my plate. I must admit a lack of education on the matter. I can only say my beliefs on the subject.
I do not believe in the inherent 'evil' of any sexual preference or any issue regarding transgendered individuals or other, similar issues. I believe to my core in the concept of 'to each their own', and feel that unless someone is directly harming another human being, anything they choose to do or believe is entirely within their rights. Other than that I have little education on the matter and cannot state a clear opinion on anything specific.
I just felt I'd get that across.
