I'm really not much for cute most of the time. I just...can't stand cute things. But puppies are an INCREDIBLE exception to that rule. I think it's because I grew up in a house that was always brimming with puppies - we bred dobermans when I was younger. Also, my best friend in the world was Junior, a doberman I had since I was born. He was born just a couple of months before me, actually, so we grew up together and he was always looking out for me.
It sounds like Rouge Galaxy is a pretty long game. I'll definitely give it a look. What are your feelings on getting guides for Rpgs? Be them the actual player's guide or one from an online source?
I generally tend to use a guide when I play Rpgs, but that's because I like to know where all the treasure is, where to go at certain points, special items to get and things like the Alchemy Pot mixes ala DQ8.
Oh my;), You'd might like to know that when the 120mm Cannon on the Abrams tank fires The force created creates a vaccum, so when you are in the turret with the hatch open, and a tank close by or even your own fires, you feel like you're getting sucked out of the turret. It is an awesome feeling.

Moreso than for the tips and hints, I usually buy guides for the reading material. I read strategy guides recreationally, for some reason =)
Online FAQs and such I have a love-hate relationship with. They can be very good, sometimes even better than offiicial guides (Tales of the Abyss, I'm lookin' at you), but more often than not they're too rife with elitism. Believe it or not, I hate elitism, heh.
I think guides can be a great thing to have, especially for games with complicated micromanagement systems like the alchemy pot or weapon fusion. Generally I don't use the walkthroughs unless there's an item I really need or I'm stuck, but that's just the first time through. After that it's all fair game, yo.
I would highly recommend buying the guide for Rogue Galaxy because it's just got so much stuff in it. The writers really went to a LOT of trouble to make it as comprehensive as they could, and it shows.

All innuendo aside... that does sound pretty damn cool.
Oh, and I used to be hugely puppies > dogs > kittens > cats. My family had a dog that I grew up with and we took care of my grandparents' dog when they died, so I was really a dog person. The cats I knew were generally pretty standoff-ish and I really never connected with one (and I seriously hated one cat I knew), so I didn't really like them. When Brad and I got our apartment, however, we couldn't have a dog and the opporunity to take care of a cat that needed a home arose, so we did. And oh my God am I smitten with this cat.
I think most people really tend to prefer cats or dogs depending on which animal they've been exposed to/had a chance to bond with. But both undeniably have their pros and cons.

For my second installment in this series, I have chosen to review one of the most import Sci-Fi classics of all times : Forbidden Planet. Sci-Fi would not be what it is now without this masterpiece.
Based loosely off of William Shakespeare's "The Tempest", Forbidden Planet delves deeply into the nature of mankind and what we are at our very core. No matter how brilliant we are or how civilized we are, we are at nature primitive animals and cannot expect that to not effect how we act.
The quality of this film is amazing. Released in 1956, it could easily compete with mainstream movies as late as 1988 for its special effects and set quality. The only nitpicks I have with the quality of the sets and filming are the following; A) If you listen carefully, sometimes you can hear as the actors are walking on wooden floors (such as on the spaceship's bridge). B) Dated scientific terms. (Only really obvious one is the referal to "quantum mechanic" as a job description).
These are actually not even noticeable unless you are really paying attention to them, but it makes you realize both; A) How much extra sound effects they add to movies now (newer movies add sound effcts to footfalls in almost every movie, and modern movies would generally use a metalic sound here), B) Modern sci-fi tends to research its scientific terms more rather than just relying on viewer stupidy and what "sounds cool".
Nonetheless, I recomend this movie on its technical merits alone. While many movies made between 1956 and 1988 can match it on special effect marvels, very few can match those marvels on the same scale this movie does. It is amazing from start to end.
Noteworthy stars;
There were alot of actors in this movie who were of importance at the time. Most of them however, people reading this likely will not know. The ones that you will recognize however;
Leslie Nielsen. Who doesn't know this guy. He was not always a screwball comedy actor, and played a really serious leading man in Planet. He plays a really good Sci-Fi captain and is believable as a hero and love intrest.
Robby the Robot. Easily one of the Top Ten robots ever. Right up there with R2D2 and C3Po. The most expensive movie prop ever made at the time. He has made numerous TV and Movie appearances since then.

Impact on Science Fiction as we know it;
While many writers and directors have stated Planet as an influence, and its touch can be seen in numerous TV shows and movies; its most stand-outish impact was to Star Trek. Geme Roddenberry has been directly quoted as stating that his primary inspiration in creating Trek came from Planet. The Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah" is also based on "Teh Tempest", possibly as a homage. Had Roddenberry not been influenced to create Star Trek, we would not have Science Fiction as we know it. Trek itself not only had the greatest impact on Science Fiction, but TV and society as a whole. Where would we be without the first interracial kiss on television for instance? While that event would have likely happened eventually, it was the kind of thing which was easier to get away with on a Sci-Fi show.
Planet was also important because it showed us that a Science Fiction movie could be written with good dialogue and plot. Without Planet we likely would never have had 2001: A Space Oddesy. Planet bridged the gap between Pulp Sci-Fi and serious Sci-Fi in the movie theater, and allowed for more realistic and serious movies to be made.
The Story;
The movie starts up showing us Leslie Nielsen's character commanding a ship to visit a planet where a research ship was lost 20 years prior. Upon arriving, he is told by the remaining survivor to turn back. He ignores the warning, and is met with open arms by Dr. Morbius. His crew was killed by some unknown force within a year of landing on the planet, leaving him and his wife as the only survivors. His wife died of seperate causes, leaving him with a daughter.
The all male crew is instantly drawn to the daughter and compete for her attention, taking advantage of her ignoranace and innocence. At first glance her character seems like a typical weak female of the sci-fi screen of the time, however in reality she is really just a childlike character and shows a noticeable level of growth throughout the movie. In the end, her and the Captain become an item and she makes some serious decisions on an adult level in regards to that relationship. By the end of the movie it is apparent she will shape out to become a strong female lead. Yet another example of the transition nature of this movie (from Pulp Sci-Fi to modern serious Sci-Fi).
The rest of the Story will be in spoiler form for those who do not wish for the plot to be ruined for them.
Some unseen monster starts attacking the crew and killing them. Dr. Morbious is very upset and fears that the deaths are happening again. He shows the Captain what he has been working on, an ancient society know as the Krell. We are shown a complex which goes for miles under the surface (and some of the best effects in the movie) which belonged to a superior ancient race which was wiped out almost all at once by unknown causes. The Dr. shows them a device he believes was used to train young Krell which measure brain power and allows mental excerisize by mentally creating holograms. He explains when his Captain used it the device killed him outright, and when he used it he went into a coma. Upon waking up, the Doctor discovered his brain power had more than doubled and he was able to learn how to use the Krell devices. AT this time he invented Robbie as well as numerous other devices. Shortly after, the crew was slaughtered.
After an attack against the ship by the unseen monster, the Captain returns to the Doctors house to remove him and his daughter from the planet for their safety. While everyone is distracted, the ships Medical Officer sneaks off and uses the brain device on himself. This proves to be fatal, but before he has a revelation and tells the Captain that they are being attacked by monsters of the Id. They Captain puts all the clues together and realizes that the unseen monster is actually a product of the base animalistic part of the Doctors mind which he cannot control. The Krell had the same problem, and when they all used the device, destroyed themselves with the uncontrollable primitive part of their mind unexpectidly.
At first the doctor refuses to believe this, and the monster attacks. In the end he realizes the truth and sets the planet to self destruct, sacrificing himself to protect is daughter from his own wrath.
Sorry to hear you're feeling down, 'Fox. I hope it gets better soon.
This Valentine's Day is sort of a bust for a lot of people I know, but hey. On one side of the argument, it's possible that people can surprise you. On the other hand, it's just one day and it's over before ya know it.
I'm just looking out my window at the mass of sludge and snow that is small town Ohio right now and not feeling too jazzed about tomorrow. Aw well.
On a brighter note, I'm now ten posts away from custom. Go me, or something.
It was good shin I had alot of fun playing Twilight princess with the nunchukes on nintendo wii. I also played this one fishing game it was kinda cool. I find the system fun but overall i am only mildly impressed with the system. see you all soon!
Hello, everybody. *slumps* Despite the hellish ice and snow coming down, we had this rush at work. It was overwhelmingly busy for a while, then just died suddenly as the ice started coming down.

I keep telling him I want to go to a diner with him at, like, 1am and I mean it. Some of my best memories of adolescance are memories of sitting around a messy table at the local greasy spoon with my friends, and yet the two of us have never made a memory like that. I think we should do something about it.
That sounds like it'd be fun. You could go some Saturday night, maybe.
I don't like Valentines day much. Valentines day of 2005, my boyfriend visited me. Very mixed emotions attached to that memory. Aside from that, it has mostly just been a candy day for me. Which is fine, but this whole loneliness thing gets to me now that I'm older.

Perhaps, one day when hell freezes over (well, it is pretty frosty here in Ohio), I'll have time to go back and rewatch something. As it is, I'm up to my ears in stuff that I haven't seen. I just watch episodes whenever I can, hoping someday to get through it all. I don't see it happening anytime soon though.
Ah, you almost treat it like research! I'm not really like that, though. I have these tapes full of Detective Conan episodes, and I've seen each of them at least 5 times. I'm doing the same now with Full Metal Alchemist.

Nah, I think dogs are cute, too. But I tend to be more of a kitty person.

@mamelon: its a two piece controller that you can hook up to the nintendo wii system. One piece is like this small joy stick type of controller thats like almost the size of a computer mouse while the other one looks like a television remote and its hooked together through a cord. Its pretty interesting to say the least. Oh sorry I just didn't think you guys cared but im glad you guys do sometimes i just feel that way sorry if i offended anyone. Well im glad you got through the day and best wishes to you always mamelon! *hugs mamelon tightly and blows kisses to mamelon*

Valentine's Day: Regardless of my current romantic situation, I always enjoy Valentine's Day, if only because my mom gives us all chocolate. I can't accept chocolate from anyone else, really, because of nut allergies. Blegh. And today, I have to console friends about the upcoming holiday. Fun, no?
Sleep: I slept from 6pm yesterday until 10am today. I guess I needed sleep.
Game of the Week: I guess I skipped last week. I'm done trying to catch up on weeks. Heh. I'll just do this week... Today or tomorrow.
Book of the Week: You can do it Omna. I have plenty of books to do it, but I think you could do a better review.
House of Cosby's: OH god... I lost brain cells watching that...
Anime: ALMOST done with Saiyuki. Another 8 episodes to go. Then I think I'll hit FLCL before doing Saiyuki Reload.
Speaking of; Mr. Stuff, do you know what this whole "Saiyuki Reload Gun" bit is? Is that a movie, or a second extension of the series?
Kool: You look cute. That's all I have to say about that.
Joyd: Happy belated birthday. I'm continuing my family's tradition of late birthday congratulations.
Alacar: I'm decent in Algebra, but it depends on what type of algebra it is. I could help, maybe?
Rogue Galaxy: Loving it, Ether? I'll touch it later. I'm enjoying Oblivion too much again.
Usekungfu: That gun is HUGE. What the heck is that? I know a friend of mine who would want one.
Snow: We got a little down here in Colorado. No big deal. But it's a bit colder now than it has been for the past several days.
Shin': OOH! You have rats? Awesome! How big, what color?
Puppy: I have my adorable Chihuahua to take pictures of... If only I could get the pictures up online.
Video Game Guides: I actually made a rule about this. One, I won't buy any guide, since Gamefaqs.com works great. Two, I won't look at any FAQ unless I've A.) Beaten the game already, or B.) spent 2+ hours on the puzzle that's irritating me.
Soreyuke!: I'm going to have to watch that. It looks like my kind of show. Of course, the Anthro has a lot to do with it.
Twilight Princess Fishing: I love going to the fishing hole and just relaxing there. The place is so awesome... Especially during the spring. And they did fishing pretty good. However, fishing anywhere else bites the big one, seriously.
LONG POST!
Edit: Robotic Flirt, eh? I'm not sure how well that fits me... Hmm...
Double Edit: Michael Buble made an awesome rendition of Mack the Knife. Anyone else know him?
I have two rats, both female. One is beige and the other is brown/black. They are both really smart and friendly. Names Hide//Seak.
Funny story: Jenn was at the supermarket, and since we needed some rat food she decided to check there first.
She is in the pet food section and goes up to a lady who worked there and asked "do you have any rat food?"
The lady points down a few aisles and says "rat poison is on aisle 5."
Jenn gets very sad and says "I don't want to poison my babies!"
The lady felt really bad.
Indeed I'm loving Rogue Galaxy, Nai. I'm sad that I'm nearly through the game proper, but with all the extra stuff I doubt I'll be putting it down anytime soon.
I actually have the Michael Buble rendition of Mack the Knife on my hard drive. I chose the song as a theme for my cigar-smoking thief of a moogle in Blue Legacy, although I went with the Robbie Williams version because Michael scats a lot =)
@FL: You are a snarky little pixie, y'know that? *Poke*
If we have the money to spare, I might ask Josh on a "date" this weekend, who knows. Although if the snow continues this way I doubt he'll be comfortable enough outside the apartment, but still. I'm glad to report that he's actually enjoying his time with the clients today because, as he puts it, he can look out the window at all the snow and say "ha, do your worst."
@ Nai, that's an MG-34, a german automatic weapon from World War Two, I don't know if you can see the panzergrenadiers in the back round. That picture was taken at the Historic Soldier's Weekend in october, Burlington City, New Jersey.
@ Cecilia, thanks for the welcome, everyone is really nice here.
Mamelon: I'm not sure what I should think of looking unassuming, but endearing is nice :D.
So, today I found out the girl I wanted to ask out does have a boyfriend, before I asked her out myself. I'm not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but now I think I'm going to just show interest in hanging out with her instead.

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
I like Buble's voice. It works really well on some of the old jazz classics, like Mack the Knife. For singers, though, I prefer the lead in Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, who has the PERFECT big band voice. He's good at scatting, too.
Sorry to hear that, KK. But rest assured that she'll value your friendship, y'know? And who knows, she might end up single at some point and then you can tell her how you feel.
I have no idea what advice to give people on Valentine's Day gifts, because Josh and I have a...different sort of relationship, let's say. I'm perfectly happy with video games for V-day and so is he, heh.

@joyd: happy birthday joyd! Have a great one and best wishes to you!
*hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Love,
Cecilia

That sounds like it'd be fun. You could go some Saturday night, maybe.
I don't like Valentines day much. Valentines day of 2005, my boyfriend visited me. Very mixed emotions attached to that memory. Aside from that, it has mostly just been a candy day for me. Which is fine, but this whole loneliness thing gets to me now that I'm older.
@Greg: That picture of Brad and the kitty-cat is seriously adorable. So adorable I saved it to my pictures folder. Awww. Such a cute moment. *mushy*
That sucks. You want to talk more about it?
Of course we care. It's good that you can go out with friends.
What is nunchukes?

nunchukes? I think he means the Nunchuk addon for the Wii-mote.
Kitties AND puppies are cute.. but I like kitties (especially kittens) a little more, myself.

My helpdesk should you need me.
Apparently, there's a LOT of Saiyuuki.
Gensou Maden Saiyuuki - 50 episodes
Saiyuuki Reload - 25 episodes
Saiyuuki Reload Gunlock - 26 episodes
Saiyuuki Requiem - Movie
Another OVA is slated to be released this April. Yeesh.
@ Cecilia, thanks for the welcome, everyone is really nice here.

So, today I found out the girl I wanted to ask out does have a boyfriend, before I asked her out myself. I'm not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but now I think I'm going to just show interest in hanging out with her instead.
And I don't think I'm going to read 40 pages.
So Valentines comin' up, eh?
I got to go shopping tonight. Anybody have any good gift ideas for my girlfriend?
My helpdesk should you need me.
I have no idea what advice to give people on Valentine's Day gifts, because Josh and I have a...different sort of relationship, let's say. I'm perfectly happy with video games for V-day and so is he, heh.
