Nick, I think you missed the point. I'm tired of the lack of common sense. The more advanced we get, the less sense things make, and the more inane restrictions get put on us - and blamed on "the system", computers, or "that's just how it is". Logic is going extinct.
What I'm saying is that what you think of as 'common' sense isn't inherently common sense at all. Computer systems are created with limitations, and it's unreasonable to just assume that someone would be able to get around these limitations. The person that answers the phone is just a peon, they can't do anything.
Silly boy....hand sex is for ...well....nevermind!
Its for MEEEEEEEEE
So, about 2 days after I got electricity back another storm blew in and nocked it all out again. This time it took 6 days for them to fix it at my place, although some cities are expected to be without electricity for nearly another week. Dad decided he'd had enough, and after the entire affair was over he went and spent almost 1,000 on a generator. Mom was/(is) mad as hell about it. Partly because we spent all our money on christmas and can't afford it, but mostly because when he asked her if she thought it would be a good idea to buy one, she said no.
Either way, I really think I want to start up my own power company. All I'd have to do is bury the powerlines, and every time Puget Sound Energy dumps 2 million people in the dark I'd get two million new customers. Seriously... we get windstorms that take out power-lines three or four times a year (although rarely are they that strong), whereas we get earthquakes MAYBE once a decade. It really bothers me that the power company can't figure that one out. It bugs me even more that they have a monopoly on the greater seattle region, so I can't even switch to thier competitors. Grrr.
Ohhh... My Step grandma is being an ass again. She lives about an hour and a half away from my house, and likes to come up for christmas. However, she's decided that this year, she doesn't want to drive herself up, but instead wants someone to drive down there to give her a ride. Then, because she doesn't like spending the night away from her cat (and we've got a dog who doesn't like them at all), she wants someone to drive her back down in the evening. That's a three hour round trip, twice, on christmas day. Now I like the woman (even though she doesn't much care for me), but really... she's got a working car and a driver's lisence. Why the hell can't she just drive her own damn car!
I've been trying to figure out a way to break Research//Deveolpment. Really what I want to do is Mill my library down to almost zip, then R+D whatever cards I want. The best part is, i can even RFG my entire graveyard (Tormod's Crypt comes to mind), and then research anything that was in my maindeck. The problem is, I can't figure out a quick way to mill myself in standard, and if I was playing Extended or larger I'd have a better time just using the Angry Hermit/Ceph Breakfast kill of a big Ghoul... I hate having what I thought was a great idea, and then using Logic to prove that it's nothing but a pile of trash :(.

I was told today that this kid on my team called 911 twice this morning and hung up both times. They called back and his dad answered. The reason the kid called 911? He got an erection and didn't know what to do. I wish I was making this up.

Yeah, what a winter for storms, eh? Two huge snowstorms which basically paralyzed the whole northwest, and at least three very powerful wind and rainstorms which knocked out power and blew down structures and trees. Living on the ocean actually bit us in the ass for the first time in a while, eh? Stanley Park (old growth trees, world famous park with seawall just off downtown Vancouver) lost 60% of its trees. Those trees were there when we colonized north america, dude! Crazy.. and tragic. And it sucks that they had to just cut them up and haul them off the paths and roads to get people through, because some of them were worth tens of thousands of dollars (per tree) for their wood. Now most of them are firewood.
That's a three hour round trip, twice, on christmas day. Now I like the woman (even though she doesn't much care for me), but really... she's got a working car and a driver's lisence.
Taking up 6 hours of you family's Christmas is a bit much to ask, if you want my opinion, especially when you could do it yourself and save someone that time. You're only awake for 16 hours on Chrsitmas, to give up 6 of that sitting in a car just to appease some old lady... bah humbug!
Come Down Under + we can develop my geothermal plan further. BD said he won't commit money until I can show him something
I'm in. How about tidal technology as well? That'd be pretty sweet to be involved in - it interests me. I'd have to either go back to school and do more physics/engineering/chemistry/etc, or I'll just be in management. I'll co-own as well as operate. As long as I get my hands and brain into the research room now and then!
I am just stopping by to wish Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you Let the holiday are full of pleasant moments spent with your friends and families, and let the new year be full of happiness - and good luck in everything you want and will want to do in the year that is coming.

Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
Happy Winter Solstice everyone! yeah, I know its a day or two late but I wasn't online at all the last two days...or two weeks. I'm down with my family in vegas now, mostly chilling and all that with the family. Some doctor finaly found out what was wrong with my dad and with some cortisone shots and drugs my dad is back to about 80%. My grandma is over here from holland and she is excited to see everyone. Just wish I could communicate with her in more than basic dutch. I can say good morning and stuff but I am able to understand some of what she says. I just can't speak it. The siblings are all good here and have been good company. Though to tell the truth we spent yesterday and alot of the day before chilling to a voyager marathon. Our collective favorite star trek show.
I'll be heading up to Park City later today so I can work 7:30am tomorrow. Wont be the funnest as I got a split shift meaning I get to work early and leave work at 10:00pm. I do have a five hour shift inbetween but thats probably not going to be used for anything productive. Not like I can get very far.
All in all things are going great for me. I'd love to stick around and help with the clan contest and stuff and chat with everyone but I can't do that without internet access. I would have bought a new computer if I had won a thousand dollars gambling this last few days. But instead I lost $75. Most I ever lost. ah well, thats gambling for you.

No worries guys... I know all about how power plants work.
All Power Plants work on the same principle. You need some sort of a moving fluid (air counts as a fluid in science). That moving fluid makes a shaft rotate, and the shaft has coils of wire on it. The rotating wire is placed in a strong magnetic field, which according to Faraday's Law of Induction (a law of physics), will create an electric current (well, if you're BD it's an Electromotive Force that causes a current... but really, who cares?). As a matter of fact, because the wires are rotating, the direction of the current also rotates, so sometimes current is moving forwards, and sometimes it's moving backwards. The technical term for that is Alternating Current (also called AC). That's why you get AC current coming out of your walls instead of DC current... it's easier to make.
Tidal Power is very simple from a technical standpoint. It works the same way as a windmill or a damn. You get a tidal current (water current, not electricity current) to spin propellors, which are attached to your driveshaft shaft. Driveshaft spins the wire, and you're off to the races. Only tricky part of the whole thing is finding somewhere to put the power station, since you need a HUGE tidal current before you can get enough electricity generation to be profitable.
Geothermal Power is a bit tougher. In this case you dump water into a geothermal hot spot, and it comes out as pressurized steam. The steam spins the turbine, and gets fed into a condensing chamber, where it turns back into liquid water again. The water from the condensing chamber gets dumped back into the hotspot and the process repeats.
Problem with it, is that geothermal hot spots have a HUGE amount of sulfates. The sulfates combine with the steam to form Sulfuric Acid, and before you know it, any and all metal machinery you might have starts to get corroded. The trick is to build all your machinery out of materials that don't react with sulfuric acid. That's more of a chemistry/engineering problem than a physics one, since you need a material that is both chemically inert, and can be used to make the machinery without breaking.
I don't know for sure, but I think modern companies are just using steel machine parts, and are coating them with some form of long-carbon-chain plastic. Then they're replacing it every two or three years as the plastic coating wears off at the spot where the turbine meets the axle, and the acid starts going to town...
I just thought this one up. People go to gyms all the time, where they pay good money to lift weights, run on treadmills, and use those bowflex style machines...
There's not much that can be done with the weightlifters, but a treadmill or exercise bike could easily be modified to spin the turbine of a power plant. It would even be possible (although a bit harder) to modify those bowflex things so that the turbine was creating the resistance and not the bows.
We could literally charge people money, so that they could come to our gym and generate us electricity! The only problem with the entire scheme is that the electricity generated from such a process would be absolutely tiny.... still, I think it's my best get-rich-quick scheme to date.
Ohh... I finally figured out how to mill myself to zero in the R+D deck I was working on. Unfortunately, it requires my deck to utterly suck. Tainted Pact in a deck with nothing but 1 ofs!
I was told today that this kid on my team called 911 twice this morning and hung up both times. They called back and his dad answered. The reason the kid called 911? He got an erection and didn't know what to do. I wish I was making this up.
Travis, they've already installed piezoelectric panels in the floors of Japanese subways. All the people walking about is enough light the tunnels. (For those who don't know, a piezoelectric material is one that creates electrical current when it is compressed.) (Super geeky subnote: piezoelectric tiles were used on the first attempt at a gravitational gave detector [such a wave would have caused tidal forces, which would have compressed the piezoelectric tiles.])
I just spent the last week up at my mom's house, which of course meant that I didn't have internet access. Whilst I was up there, I had a wisdom tooth pulled. Spent two days on the Vicodin, but I'm mostly healed up now. It's still tender, but nothing that's bothering me too much.

Awesome work Travis, we're well on our way, now. And that was a good idea about the gym, although I have to tell you I've also had it. Cept when I had it, I said that I think the gym should be dark and quiet until the first member comes in and starts working out, at which point they power the generator and the lights come on a bit... no music or TVs on yet. As it fills up, it gets brighter and the music and TVs come on, etc. I never imagined it could be used to power the nation, though. Good idea! Surely we could give people a small discount to use our gym, to encourage membership. After all, they're supplying the work needed to make the electricity we're selling... it's only fair. Get those fatties on the treadmills!
Feeling a bit lonely, as it's Christmas Eve and I've never been alone on Christmas Eve before. My boys are eating turkey dinner and having fun with my wife's parents right now. Closer to their bedtimes, the inlaws will be sent downstairs and the door locked... and then I can go over and tuck the boys into bed. Gavin's old enough now to understand milk and cookies... I think I'll do that with him this year. And in the morning we'll have stockings and everything, that'll be awesome. I can't wait to see their faces.
I'm not providing info on the contest because, well...I know **** about Magic. There's no way we can win Clan of the year anyway, so why bother?

Dunno what to say. I had a good Christmas with my grama, grampa, brother, wife, and boys. Called or got calls from all my other family members, opened some presents (DVDs, gift cards, chocolates... pretty standard), and ate turkey dinner. I got to carve it. Not sure if that was a good thing, since really I just hacked meat off it until grama said "that's enough".

Dude, if I could help ya out, I would. Thing is, I just got fired from my job, (already:p), and I barely have any hours on my check I'm getting tomorrow. I think I have, like...6. I'm gonna be calling around tomorrow to see if anyone's hiring. Maybe. I might wait until after New Year's. This year has been ****ty for me. Maybe waiting until next year will give me better luck, eh?
