Well, the short answer to that question is: it's not. It's still just a hole in the ground while a half dozen or so houses that were started a week, a month, or even 2 months after ours are already complete or nearly so. It's supposedly an issue with the developers getting power out to the site, but that seems to be taking an awfully long time, especially considering there's a house just 2 lots over that started a month after ours that's already totally finished on the outside. I know they can work fast if they want to, but they only have another 2 1/2 months. I think there's something in our contract, though, in the way of penalties for them if they don't finish on time. I'll have to double-check on that as it may very well become an issue if they don't start framing here before too long.

TFE: I knew you'd be back sooner rather than later, man :).
Hahaha, and I've been regretting it more and more...But oh well, I got bored, and good to see FFFB back up.
There're just so many really lame noobs who have become "TFE Hater"s...
Hate takes a certain amount of investment, if you ask me. I don't care enough about anyone to ever hate them. :xd:

I don't think the framing should take that long, once the foundations and so on have been prepared. I assume it's a fairly standard build, rather than one of the ones with fancy materials you see on crappy house design programmes?
Exactly - once they start framing it only takes a couple of days to get the entire thing up and then only another week or two to get the entire exterior work finished. And as for the "fancy materials," we're keeping things pretty standard and, thus, cheap. We've made a few minor modifications to the design, but nothing more complicated than extending our deck from 10' x 14' to 10' x 17'.
I'll probably drive by there again tomorrow and see if they've made any progress... (doubtful, though, considering the holiday)

Good to hear you're enjoying life, Metaller. Don't forget to stop by occasionally and let us know what's up
As for me, I'll probably be heading back home to Hutchinson to cover the US Senior Open at Prairie Dunes Country Club. It'll be on national TV on NBC, so there's always a chance you'll be able to see me somewhere on there. My parents are among the 1,000 or so local volunteers helping out with the event and I'm going to try and hook up with them while I'm out there.

Actually, my hometown is only 45 minutes away from here, so I'm already back. It was pretty fun (though somewhat hot) out there today watching some really great golfers like Tom Watson, Hale Irwin, and "The Walrus," Craig Stadler. I hope I get to go back and cover the final day of competition this Sunday.
Also, I, too, shall be attending the Saturday prerelease. My little brother is going to be coming over tomorrow night to watch Pirates 2 and then spend the night and go to the tournament the next morning. I haven't played in a tournament with him since...Mirrodin, I think. Should be fun.

I went on Saturday and while I really sucked it up (went 1-3), I had a really fun time despite being forced into playing my two least favorite colors - blue and white. I did also splash green for the combo of Hibernation's End and Juniper Order Ranger. I had that guy up to 13/15 at one point before decking myself in a 45-minute game

I'm incredibly tired. After work on Monday, I made the 4 1/2-hour drive (which was closer to 5 thanks to rain) down to Springdale, Arkansas. Yesterday, a sports reporter and I spent all day (as in we got up at 6:30) covering the local special election down there to decided whether or not the city would build a $50-million baseball stadium to try and lure our Wichita Wranglers AA baseball team (a farm team of the KC Royals) down there.
Finally, at around 9:30 last night, we got the final results: the measure passed 2,410 to 2,393. Yep, by only 17 votes. That means that more than likely our team is going to relocate down there as soon as the stadium is completed. Anyway, I still had to drive back home after that...through even more rain. I didn't get home till around 3:45. Even factoring in a full lunch break, yesterday ended up being around a 19 1/2-hour day

You want to talk about hot? Yesterday the high here got up to 108. It was 107 yesterday and 108 again the day before that. Today it's supposed to get up to 109 or 110 with a heat index somewhere just below 120! The second you step outside you start sweating buckets.

I actually had to be out in the sun for quite a while today. I probably sweated off at least 5 lbs.
In other news, they're making a ton of progress on our house. For the past 2-3 months it was just a big concrete hole in the ground but in the past 2 weeks they've gotten the entire frame up and are starting to put the roof on. We've already picked out our lighting fixtures and appliances and we'll be picking out our plumbing fixtures and sinks on Friday. After that the interior and exterior paint is about all we have left to decide on.

Making your own house? Cool. Hope that goes well.
I wish I could do that. I'd have machine guns placed in all the windows so I could get rid of all those damned ice cream trucks that park across the street and leave the horrible, high-pitched, mettalic music playing... it make me want to do evil things.
Yes, building your own house is indeed quite cool (as long as the builder follows your directions properly).
My dad and I will be spending Saturday afternoon wiring my basement for surround sound. I'm trying to decide if I want to go ahead and pre-wire for a 7.1-channel system and just not cut out the hole in the wall where the two side-channel speakers would be or not. Right now we just have a 5.1-channel system but I'm sure that in a few years we'll be upgrading...

Well...I think he posted a total of like 5 times over here and most of them didn't really spur much conversation in and of themselves.
Also, there really is little you can do to beat pizza and beer.
They've made even more progress on our house - they're almost entirely done with the outside. Had a bit of a scare yesterday, though, when my wife went over to inspect the progress. Just as she walked into the house some strange guy walked in behind her and asked her if it was her house. She said yes and he went past her into the basement. She figured he must be a worker so she continued inspecting the upstairs until she heard a bunch of clanging in the basement. She went downstairs to see what was going on and apparently this guy was going through all the boxes of air conditioning ducting and strewing it across the floor. When he noticed her he went back upstairs and got in his car and drove to the next house down the block and went in there. At this point she called the cops and gave them a partial license plate number and a description of the guy. Weird

I haven't heard anything back from either the police or the builders, but I'm still fairly certain it was an attempt to try and steal copper pipes - there's been a ton of that in this city of late. Yet another reason I'm glad we went with a water manifold system (which uses color-coded plastic pipes) instead.
In other news: our apartment is infested with little black ants

A spate of copper pipe thefts? Things sure are crazy over in Wichita :).
The price for copper around here has gone through the roof and there are a lot of shady scrap metal places that deal in stolen metal. There has been a lot of thefts of copper and other metals from local businesses and such.
Sorry your weekend sucked My weekends have been packed the past several weeks with meetings related to our house, and this weekend is my brother's wedding so I'll be pretty busy this Friday and Saturday with the rehearsal and the wedding itself.

Your brother's getting married? Pass on the congratulations. Your parents must be pretty happy too, getting you both married off in a short space of time.
I think more than anything they're happy it's going to be a few more years before they have to worry about our youngest brother getting married
Apparently some of my brother's friends are planning on driving him down here from where he lives about 2 hours away to have a "bachelor party-like thing." I'm not sure exactly what they have in mind but considering I'm happily married to a pregnant wife and all that I might have to duck out early depending on just how like a bachelor party they're going for. I might try and talk them into just going to a sports bar to eat and have a couple rounds of drinks and then they can go off on their own to do whatever.

Well, no worries about the party getting too out of control last night. They spent way too long driving around here looking for one of their friends' houses and by the time I met up with them at the sports bar it was after 1 am. I had a beer and we split a couple pizzas then went back to my apartment to play some Magic and Xbox 360. We stayed up till 5, though, which is pretty late for me. I'm probably going to regret it when I'm falling asleep at work this afternoon.

A week off work? That'd be nice. I had a pretty good weekend Friday and Saturday, but I'd love to have a few more days off to recover. The wedding went off really well (though I think mine was nicer...though I could be a bit biassed). It was awesome seeing a bunch of my brother's friends I hadn't seen since my wedding and getting the old playgroup together for some big chaos games. It's been years since I've played a 6-player game. It sucks that it'll probably be years till it happens again

Sounds like a fun time. I've mostly been sitting at home when I've not been working. Our Ultimate Frisbee practice was rained out last night, which sucked, and it's still sprinkling today. We had another leak through the vent in our bedroom ceiling which the apartment maintenance people have not yet fixed since the last time we got heavy rain a week or so ago. The longer I live here the more I'm looking forward to having my own house

I've never been to Spain; the only places in Europe I've been to are Paris and London, and that was back in high school for a French Club field trip. I did order a Spanish beer off the internet a while back...it wasn't that great.
Speaking of beer, I can't wait to try the bottles of Westvleteren I ordered from Belgiumshap.com. My birthday's still about 2 months away and it's tough thinking about those $25 bottles sitting in a box in my parents' basement while I sit here and drool over them

I've had the Philippines version of San Miguel before, but I've never heard of Mahou (though even if it sucks I'd gladly drink it to add another bottle to the collection). The one I had was Ambar Especial. It wasn't anything spectacular but it wasn't horrible, either.
