Good morning everyone.. I'm just popping in briefly to say hello before I need to get crankin' on everytihng else I need to do...
Also, a fun for the 1337 th post by Kevin! Coingrats on bein' leet!
Today i've got a test in my online course (to be taken before midnihgt.. tho I can't seem to find the way to take it online...?), and a journal entry for another class due at 4pm... Plus a couple other mini-assignments due by midnight as well... Here we go, right back into the swing of things, eh??
Have a good day all :)'
EDIT: Bah on the PC hatin'... I'm sooo excited about this.. I personally didn't like Coldsnap, for instance, but I really like the idea of some of the new stuff PC is puttin' out there... Also, bear in mind, a disclaimer; I have only been playing the game for a little over a year, so I don't have the deep-rooted familiarity with the game that a lot of you older players have... but because of this, I like what they're doing.. and I look forward to seeing what they have... the Prerelease is going to be fun no matter what happens with the set..

I'm not saying that Planar Chaos is going to 'ruin Magic,' but I am saying that Wizards has literally slapped the game in the face and forced it to change drastically. A change that felt entirely unnecessary and forced.

I'm hearing the same from some other people I know regarding the spoilers thus far. I can't say I'm loving all this "splashability" either. Mind you I don't hate it all that much - it's definitely going to be some fun - but the fact is modern decks are getting VERY good tools that they wouldn't otherwise get. Damnation not withstanding...
I agree with Tanthalas about the split card tho. If you wanted to do a single color split card at least do two TOTALLY different effects on the same card (sorta like what I did with my set - *wink wink nudge nudge*). AKA make them look like they at least belong if the design is gonna be totally boring.
That's part of the problem having ex-players in R&D....
Edit: Tho I now hold no complaints against Timbermare after reading the SCG article on it... kinda interesting if you ask me...
@PC: I personally liked bending the bending of the color wheel back to its original form (i.e. blue pingers and direct damage, white enchantment/artifact kill). I can't say I'm 100% satisfied with the blatant disregard for the wheel (they're "reinventing it," you could say), but I think it's a welcome change for me nonetheless. They've been slaves to it for too long and I think it's high time that they roll up their sleeves and get messy.
@Seph: Disneyland for a 3-year anny... sounds a little too out-of-place. But still, it's the thought that counts.
So today I decided that the camp interview will be on Friday instead of tomorrow because my mom needs her daytime sleep (she works during the night in the ER as a doctor). I'm also calling several child care centers to see if I can work there this summer. I told my dad about this and he said, "Good." But then he added: "Expand your horizons, you're better than that." Nothing ever pleases the man.
On Planar Chaos: I'm going to wait at least until the set is out and I can see the whole picture before passing any kind of judgement. This has been a great example of why MaRo doesn't like spoilers: people pass judgement with limited information. In this very thread people complained about how much Akroma sucks. "A 4/4 without trample? Unplayable!" And they were wrong.
So I'm waiting to see what they actually did with the color pie before declaring how much they screwed up. And so far, there's nothing I've seen that has been an absurd screwing of the color pie.

Holy nimbus, its a long time since i posted now, so i guess i should.
The reason that i havent posted is i guess that i have been folowing the intence [499] drama, (allthough i did not reply, of obvious reasons), and that was a lot of reading.
Anyways, im doing pretty fine, saw another cool movie called High Fidelity, wich was great, I have been at Senes place this weekend, and that was awsome ofcourse, I was a little tired though, so for Sene's part, i could might be more..hmmm..... awake.
Magic: We are getting closer to the great PTQ of the year, the extended ptq. I am planning to play affinity, but I am to say that i am not quite comfy with it yet, and that disturbs me.
What do you think? Whats the best affinity list now? C'mon fellas!
See you around!

Especially considering they JUST hired three new designers not very long ago. What use would those be if they were ending the game?

Hey, do any of you hopped-up coffee chugging espresso fiends feel like telling me when that prerelease will be taking place?

Well first of all, END OF MAGIC? What is that all about, its the neverending game!
And thanks, I hope I will do well as well, allthough I have my doubts. But do any of you have any advice on how to beat the pro's? They realy bother me when we play, I dunno why, but i guess its just something in the way that they act. And do you think affinity can stick it to the new decks? Any new meta-tech? Whats up!
Greetings, gomp.

Well if you truely want to do really well gomp. Accept the criticsm that any high calibur player says about you and your decks and etc. Don't listen to anyone else but yourself and do alot of playtesting against the decks to beat. Just focus and play with your deck you shouldn't care what everybody else says or thinks about how you play and your deck your using.
Welcome NSL (im not going to type out your name, its too long) and mishraman. Wecome back, gomp.
Good job with the ROTW, MW.
I actually like PC. I hate the color wheel, it makes enchantments sooo annoying when your playing R,B, or R/ as i found out at the JSS, and does other annoying things, so i like that there screwing it up :D. I also liked darksteel, because i started just before 5th dawn came out. The prerelease should be fun (this is my first one).

I wish i could go to the planar chaos prerelease as well but I probably can't since I am going to be starting work pretty soon in a hospital near me. Goodluck to you urazii in the prerelease.
Well i am going to go for awhile time for me to get back to my books see you all soon though. *hugs everyone in the coffeehouse*
@Cecilia Im sure you would rather be working then playing magic(maybe) but its a good thing your interview went well
@Affinity I can't really say anything because I have a prejudice against the deck.
Talking about CDs did anyone hear/buy twisted christmas its really good
EDIT
Post 100 yay. I think the majority of my last posts were because of this clan which is pretty awesome btw so thanks guys for being so nice and talking to me
Hey everybody! Just popping in real quick. Hello and welcome to the new members. I picked up the last TS pack that the store had and got some pretty good pulls. Like Weatherseed Totem, Empty the Warrens, Harmonic Sliver, Dralnu, Lich Lord, Dandan, and a foil Traitor's Clutch. Not too bad, I'd say. Other than that, I've just been hanging around the house as usual. I applied for a job at a local Target and I think the interview went well, since I previously worked at a Target in NJ. Unfortunately, the HR person wasn't in yesterday, so they'll give me a call. I'm hoping I get it, because its a good store and not a bad place to work.
I begrudgingly haven't played any DQ in the last 2 days, so I need to catch up on that, so I can get to playing ToS, and perhaps pick up a few other games on my list to play.
Hey Coffehouse! I didn't post here yesterday due to another computer ban by my parents. It's annoying, but probably a good thing for me. I get a little too obsessed with the computer sometimes. I read through the pages I missed, but I really don't feel like replying to every single thing, so I think I will skip most of the things, because they don't feel that important to me. But I will hit on some things that have been said.
@PC: I haven't taken a look at the spoiler in a few days, but the way it is gong now, I'm not really sure what to think. Before any cards came out, I was super excited for it because I thought it was going to bring back MIrrodin, Kamigawa, and Ravnica themes and whatnot, but they obviously are not going to do that. I think I agree with Alacar partly about the color pie. I am a new player and was not here for the old way colors were, so I find it very weird to see the color pie changing. Even Time Spiral was weird for me. Anyway, I still might go to the prerelease, and I will definetely buy the cards (through drafts of course).
@All the new people: Welcome! This place is really awesome, and I'm sure all of you will have a good time here.
Well, I'm off to play some Halo on the compy, which I just started today, even though I've had it for a while. It's actually pretty fun, and I don't usually play FPS's.
@Gomp: Ew, I hate affinity. It's certainly not as broken as it was in Standard as it is in Extended, but I still can't stand it. I'd like to attend a PTQ Extended tournament, but I don't know where one is. I know that I would be playing a W/U control deck using a minimal amount of white for Condemns, Wraths, and Ivory Masks (maybe I should add my copy of Augustin too?).
@Cecilia: Good luck on your tests!
@Buzz: Good work on the job hunting!
Speaking of job hunting, I'm almost at the breaking point with my dad, and after dinner I just might be at that point. Here's the story: at 1:00 today I found a job opportunity on Craig's List. Naturally I do my damnedest to get ready for this interview, which happened at 4:00. I borrowed my dad's clothes: a turtleneck, corduroy pants, and loafers with shoelaces. I got there and after an hour and a half of learning about the job (a knife salesman), I find out I got the job. Good, right? Well, when I get home (I called my mom previously and told her the news, which she sounded very excited over), I tell both of them about the job. My dad said in his usual tone of voice, said "Good, go look for more just in case." I could tell he had an "I don't give a ****" tone in his voice, or maybe I'm just paranoid. My point is that he never seems to be satisfied with me. Have I pissed him off so early in the vacation by slacking off on job opportunities that nothing I do affects him positively? My parents and I are going to talk about what I'm going to do for Friday, since that's my potential first day for training as well as an interview for a camp, two conflicting things. If Dad gives me the same guff that he's been doing over the past couple of days over dinner in spite of my effort to turn things around, I just might go ape****.
@shadowfox: goodluck with your exams im sure you will do fine on them. Have a great night and don't be too nervous just do the best you can and study hard!
@mw: thanks mw! I am just studying to get ready to go back to work in the x-ray field at a different hospital thats why i am going over some x-ray text books before i go back.:) Yeah im not sure if your paranoid or not either. I am glad to found some jobs to apply for though. I hope you will get a job in which you will at least have semi-interest in goodluck and best wishes to you mortal wombat!
@strongbad: Thats okay strongbad we all totally understand your circumstances. Best wishes to you strong bad and have a good week too.
@Buzz: Hello buzz good to see you drop by here and glad your doing well. Have a great week buzz.
Well i am going to go for awhile i will see you all soon. I will probably post later tonight. Have a good night everyone! I will be on aol messenger tonight if anyone wants someone to talk to. *hugs everyone*

A BIRD IN THE HAND IS WORTH TWO IN THE BUSH
Keep that in mind going ahead with this job thingy.
Also, until you actually pay rent and bills on your own, you're gonna have to learn how to deal diplomatically with your father. His house, his rules. That doesn't necessarily mean quitting a job you have aced and going back out looking for something 'better" but it does mean you have to work to your potential and be polite. Vent to your psychologist, or to your friends, or to your dog. But be polite and respectful at home. It's the best way to demonstrate that you're mature and can make decisions on your own about these matters.
@MW: Congrats on RotW, and good luck with the job.
Hello, everyone. I'm back! I was very busy (and sleepy) yesterday due to jet-lag from Ohayocon, and I was likewise sleepy today, but after a nap and a shower, I'm feeling much better. Now I'm ready to sit down and tell the story of my last few days.
I got up at 6:30am to go to Ohayocon (2 hours from where I live), and I got there just on time, while registration was still taking place. The convention center it's in is huge, and so is the registration line. To my great delight, I found that a group of three of my friends from college were already there, standing in line, and I hurried to join them. We talked about all sorts of things while waiting, catching up and such, but mainly about what we'd be doing for the anime club this quarter. Once registration was over, I looked for the "Anime Clubs 101" panel, but it was closed, apparently, so I was a bit disappointed with that. Instead, I ventured off to catch an episode of my first anime of the day:
Magical Stage Fancy Lala
This turned out to be a magical girl show (no, really?), where the main character is a budding manga artist who is befriended by two dinosaur-looking stuffed-doll things from another dimension with big fluffy ears. They give her the power to transform into an adult, and they also give her a sketchbook that brings to life whatever she draws in it. In the first episode, she draws adult clothes for herself, and then transforms - as an adult, she somehow has blue hair, and calls herself Fancy Lala. In later episodes, she goes on to become an idol singer.
Well, that was a bit entertaining, but not something I was really all that interested in, so I headed off to video room #3, where I found:
Ah, My Goddess: Adventures of the Mini-Goddess
Now this is a show I could get into. Very hilarious, reminiscent of Galaxy Angel in its pure zaniness and off-the-wall humour. Take the three goddesses from Aa, Megami-sama (Belldandy, Skuld, and Urd), shrink them down to about 3 inches tall, add one talking rat, and throw in a random plot in the style of Galaxy Angel, and you have Adventures of the Mini-Goddess. One episode involved them going inside of a vending machine, wherein they encountered space aliens who kicked them out and then morphed the vending machine into a flying saucer and flew away. It was very fun to watch.
After Mini-Goddess, I headed over to check out the dealers room. It was one of the larger dealer's rooms I've been to, as I expected from Ohayocon. I looked everywhere, but to my dismay, nobody had a Wolf's Rain soundtrack. I did, however, get the following:
Original Dirty Pair OVA collection
A Tree of Palme (movie)
Galaxy Angel A
I'd been looking for A Tree of Palme for about a year and a half, ever since I saw a preview for it on an ADV preview disc. I had even tried finding a torrent for it, with no sucess. Galaxy Angel A, was, well, another must-have, since I'm trying to eventually get all of Galaxy Angel. Come to think of it, Dirty Pair and Galaxy Angel are also series I had trouble finding torrents for, beyond the first season. I have them now, anyway.
When I was almost done, I took a final look back through everything, and what do I find? A guy way over in the corner is selling the entire GITS: 2nd Gig collection for $70! That's $10/dvd. Even though I already had the first two of seven volumes, it would be cheaper for me to buy all seven from this guy than to buy the remaining five individually at retail. One problem though - they only took cash! I had $54 cash on me at that point. Luckily, I was able to convince one of my friends to loan me the exta $20 so I could buy it. That was a major relief, that's for sure. I'd been trying to get the whole second season, and this was just too good an opportunity to miss. That purchase over, my dealer's room activities were concluded.
The next thing I remember doing is going to see a few episodes of a show that used to be on Cartoon Network, and on Fox way back in the day, called Ronin Warriors. It was SOOOOO campy - All the guys had the thick "80's" eyebrows, and all the bad stereotypes from sentai ("power-ranger"-like) shows were there. Best quote from the show (I kid you not) - "You know what they say: The more awesome they are, the harder they fall". ROFL.
I got something to eat at Subway (OMG, a con that had a food-court!), and after that we headed down to the video-game room. One our other friends had shown up with his girlfriend, and he and two of the people I was with all entered the Guilty Gear XX tournament that was going on. They all made it to the second round, and they all lost in the second round. There were some really good players there, though, in particular, Potemkin, Slayer, and Sol. There was a pretty nasty May player there as well, who beat my friend's Millia pretty handily. We decided after the matches were over, since not much else was going on, that we'd go up and catch a bit of the end of the cosplay contest and wait for the AMV awards to start, since they followed the Cosplay contest.
The overall winning cosplay team was from, surprisingly, Death Note. I found this amusing since they all pretty much were dressed in normal looking clothes, except for the shinigami. My vote (and they did win "best costume design") would have gone to the amazing people from Gankutsuou. Yep, there was a Gankutusuou cosplay team there, and they were FANTASTIC. They copied the clothes directly from the show - there must have been a LOT of sewing that went into those costumes. They even had the count's elf chick with real peacock feathers in her perfectly tinted green hair. They were something else to look at, that's for sure. About 15 minutes after the awards, the AMVs started. The only two I really remember (I'll have to look up the full list later) were an absolutely hilarious "Dare to Be Stupid" video that won the Comedy category and the overall winner, "Waiting on a Hero" done to Bleach. Pretty good stuff.
On my way down from the AMV awards, who do I run into but two girls cosplaying Hanon and Luchia from Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch! I seriously didn't believe my eyes at first. I thought I was the only one who liked or had even heard of Mermaid Melody. They weren't even all that good-looking, but I loved them to death just for liking my favorite series. Just goes to show that I need to have more faith in myself. I talked to them briefly, but really just seeing them was enough. It was a cute little happenstance that really made the con for me.
I'd wanted to catch a bit of "Anime Hell", but the room it was in was already filled when I got there, and they only had two tiny TVs that were way in the front and impossible to read subtitles on from the back row. That combined with the body heat from about 150 people packed into that tiny room convinced me to try my luck elsewhere. I can't remember what we did, but I know we ended up in viewing room #1 at 10:00pm, just in time for "Normal View: A parade of bad anime".
OMG. The idea of "Normal View" was simple (in fact, it's the same thing our club does for finals week): show bad anime, and invite making fun of it. The first thing we watched was Panzer Dragoon. Oh man, the CGI - It burns, it burns! Next was FF: The Legend of the Crystals or somesuch, the one with Pretz as the main hero. That was also pretty ridiculously bad. However, I don't think anything could have prepared us for what came next. 5 words for you: Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins. What is it? It's a live-action, chinese version of the original Dragon Ball story. Aside from it being live-action (gulp), aside from it being a horrible, horrible, kung-fu style dub, how does this movie go wrong? Let me count the ways. Goku is played by a woman. Yes, you read that right. The action sequences are straight out of the worst kung-fu movie you've ever seen, the kind that make "Shaolin Soccer" look realistic. The Red Ribbon Army was, well, a bunch of guys in aluminum foil, led by a Terminator clone (sunglasses and all) and a woman soldier who looks like she's from an eighties hair band. Yamcha has been renamed "Westwood", and looks like he stole Elvis' wardrobe and then added more rhinestones. I could go on, but we'll just stop at this last one - Master Roshi shoots lasers from his hands. Yes, instead of the traditional Kamehameha move, he just sticks his hands out and a beam of yellow light shoots out and blows up the attacking spaceships. I don't think I've laughed more in my life. It was a great end to a great day.
I got back home at around 2:00am and got to bed by 3:00. Lucky for me, work the next day was 12:30pm-9:30pm, so I could sleep late. I was still wiped the next day though, and I had to work at 8:00am today, so I was still sleepy this morning. I took a nice long nap this afternoon, though, so I'm feeling much better, and I actually got around to reorganizing my DVD folder to add the 11 new DVDs, and to watching some of them. I finished the first disc of Galaxy Angel A already, and I love it. It's classic Galaxy Angel, and even funnier in some bits than the first season. I think I may watch A Tree of Palme tonight, or maybe one of the Dirty Pair OVAs.
Tomorrow is Tuesday, meaning the beginning of my "weekend" and also time for me to post up the Anime of the Week. Look for it then.
Keep that in mind going ahead with this job thingy.
Uhh.....

I'll be sure to let my friends at college know this. And as for dinner, I talked to my parents about the job, and they think it's a scam because it takes advantage of friends and family so that the company can sell knives. Maybe it is a scam, but so long as I'm off my ass during the summer with a job that doesn't involve shanking people on the street, why should they give a damn? The only good thing this does is that it opens up my interview for Friday for a summer camp, which I hope to holy hell goes well because if I don't get that, I'm probably up **** creek for jobs (except for the knife sales, which they'd probably let me do if I've got nothing else).
Also, a fun for the 1337 th post by Kevin! Coingrats on bein' leet!

So I'm waiting to see what they actually did with the color pie before declaring how much they screwed up. And so far, there's nothing I've seen that has been an absurd screwing of the color pie.

Especially considering they JUST hired three new designers not very long ago. What use would those be if they were ending the game?

Well first of all, END OF MAGIC? What is that all about, its the neverending game!
And thanks, I hope I will do well as well, allthough I have my doubts. But do any of you have any advice on how to beat the pro's? They realy bother me when we play, I dunno why, but i guess its just something in the way that they act. And do you think affinity can stick it to the new decks? Any new meta-tech? Whats up!
Greetings, gomp.

Well i am going to go for awhile time for me to get back to my books see you all soon though. *hugs everyone in the coffeehouse*

I begrudgingly haven't played any DQ in the last 2 days, so I need to catch up on that, so I can get to playing ToS, and perhaps pick up a few other games on my list to play.
Windmills do not work that way!

-M. Stuff
