Ah japanese music. Something I can finally comment on.
@Gackt: I think this is the first time I haven't heard any ill spoken of Gackt that wasn't at one of his numerous fansites. IMO, from what I've heard he gets a lot of undue flack. He's pretty good actually...
I need some good pointers tho toward some really good J-rock... besides MM.
But honestly, I think I love, out of all forms of japanese music oddly enough, the J-pop the most. Why odd you say? Because my entire list of music is 70% Hard Rock and/or Metal. My friends look at me weird when I have my winamp list go randomly from, say, Lacuna Coil to Utada Hikaru.
I just think that Gackt's...weird. I mean, he's admitted to being a 400-year-old vampire, so who knows what's going on in his head. But! So long as he makes awesome music I don't care who he is =P
Hmm. In which direction do your tastes lean more; the rockish stuff or the popish? For the former, I'd recommend Merry, Pierrot, Luna Sea, TRAX (although they're Korean, but still) and Creature Creature. For the more popish stuff...kind of hard to say. Do as Infinity is always good, and they have a big discography. Then there's stuff like Kagrra, Iceman, and Kotani Kinya. All good.
Oh! And anyone who is even remotely a fan of Soundgarden should give Aya a try. She's a Japanese rocker with a very American musical sensibility, and her albums are all produced by Glenn Ballard.
I've been trying to get into more J-rock music lately. Since I watch Naruto and FLCL, I've been pretty much hooked on The Pillows and Asian Kung-Fu Generation.
I'll definitely look into Aya. I was a moderate fan of Soundgarden, so it sounds like it'll be good.
The Pillows are pretty good. Mamelon really likes them, but for some reason I just can't seem to stay interested in them at all. I think it's because I'm a Pierrot fanboy first of all =)
The depressing thing about the US version of Naruto (besides Naruto's voice, ugh) is that most of the really good music in it is edited out. I really, REALLY hate it when localization companies do that. Hell, there's even some great music in Bobobo-Bobo-Bobo that was cut out for the US release. Suck.
My roomie is an enormous fan of J-rock and plays it almost all the time, which means that I've heard an absolute ton, but don't really know much about it at all.
Someone mentioned Reel Big Fish - there IS Japanese ska music, though none that I've heard is as quintessentially "ska-ish" as them. (Doesn't mean it doesn't exist.) Once again, I don't know much in particular, but the opening to the second season of the anime school rumble is a ska song; that might be a place to start.
That'd be great if you could recommend some anime. I know you've seen a lot of it and I bow to your knowledge. As for the genre, I'm up for pretty much anything. I don't think there's a genre I don't like, but I could be wrong. Have been before.

Hello everyone.
Mamelon told me I should start posting here, so here I am.
Hello Shin! Or rather, yoroshiku, ne? Your custom wins points in my book for the simple fact that I can read it. I always enjoy seeing more otaku to talk to.
I love singing along to everything I have, even (embarrassingly) when I don't know the words. I know I've freaked out our neighbors on many, many occasions by popping some Gackt into the stereo and singing along in Japanese. Of course I don't think it matters who you are - you'll be freaked by randomly hearing a 25-year-old guy belt out "WASURENAIKARA!!!" In a velvety tenor, but still ^_~;;
Psshaw. You haven't lived till you've belted out "Powafuru Mirakuru Ima Kuru!" (Kurumi's opening) whilst speeding down the highway at 70 mph. I sing Mermaid Melody songs sometimes in the car just to annoy my brothers. Mahou Shoujo is my favorite source for music and I'm not afraid to admit it.
@Buzz: I'll post some recommendations for stuff (a big list to be sure) in my next post. I just got asked to do something, so I'll be right back.
Hello, everybody. Well, I am finished with my last day of work, and home safely. It's was so strange leaving to go home, knowing I wouldn't be back the next day, or the next week, or whatever.

Ill be on aol messenger later tonight if you want to talk. *hugs*
Oh, it's okay. I wasn't upset at you. I'm glad you shared it. I'm proud of you for being so positive during all this.
Its also very true that god in fact did create all of us in his image. I heard from somewhere that all of us use about 5 percent of our mind to do the things that we do on a daily basis. Its just unimaginable what we could do if we had control of our entire mind. I believe Albert Einstein used about 7-8 percent of his total mind or else he wouldnt come up with the theory of relatively which was basically created by god.
Thanks for sharing this. It's actually pretty profound.

I HAVE listened to Do as Infinity, actually. It's amazing what you'll find if you search up anime openers and closers. Naruto, for instance, has several quite good bands. While, yeah, FLOW and Orange Range are very rap-oriented (and I normally can't stand rap), they're very fun to listen to. I got Do as Infinity off of Inuyasha, believe it or not. I don't watch the show, but the openers and closers are pretty good.
I love Do As Infinity, though mostly I have listened to their somewhat older music. I hope you find some more, it's very nice. And I love Orange Range - especially their rap feel. Japanese rap-style music is among the only rap that I seem to enjoy. Orange Range is very "feel good."
I like American and Japanese music equally.
As do I. I enjoy the sounds of singing even when I don't understand the words. And yes, sometimes they are more enchanting when you don't know the meaning.

1) Brain imaging research techniques such as PET scans (positron emission tomography) and fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) clearly show that the vast majority of the brain does not lie fallow. Indeed, although certain minor functions may use only a small part of the brain at one time, any sufficiently complex set of activities or thought patterns will indeed use many parts of the brain. Just as people don't use all of their muscle groups at one time, they also don't use all of their brain at once. For any given activity, such as eating, watching television, making love, or reading, you may use a few specific parts of your brain. Over the course of a whole day, however, just about all of the brain is used at one time or another.
2) The myth presupposes an extreme localization of functions in the brain. If the "used" or "necessary" parts of the brain were scattered all around the organ, that would imply that much of the brain is in fact necessary. But the myth implies that the "used" part of the brain is a discrete area, and the "unused" part is like an appendix or tonsil, taking up space but essentially unnecessary. But if all those parts of the brain are unused, removal or damage to the "unused" part of the brain should be minor or unnoticed. Yet people who have suffered head trauma, a stroke, or other brain injury are frequently severely impaired. Have you ever heard a doctor say, ". . . But luckily when that bullet entered his skull, it only damaged the 90 percent of his brain he didn't use"? Of course not.
If any underutilization is occurring in the brain, it is that the mind is capable of being trained to perform tasks beyond what most people do. For example, you can train your memory that have almost perfect recall. This is the result of practice and proper technique and has nothing to do with the percentage of brainpower you're utilizing.
Think of it this way: your brain is like a car engine. When you drive you push the accellerator pedal at different levels, and rarely are you using the engine at it's full capacity, but the entire engine is still being used.

Then after I woke up I perused the forums for a while before going on campus to check with financial aid to see why I haven't gotten anything.. it'll be another while, as usual.. I also got my 3 school books, which I neede direly.
Then I went shopping with my mom. When we got home I had cookies

Anime of the Week will be coming shortly. I still haven't decided what it will be for this week. Actually, I'm still a bit groggy, since I just woke up a couple of hours ago. I came home and slept from 5:00pm-9:00pm.

Unless I'm entirely wrong it translates as "You are already dead". I couldn't tell you who said, but I'll go out on a limb and guess that it's from Bleach.

This is from one which if it didn't excist, it is likely Anime would not be what it is. The influence it has had are astronomical and it still sees some popularity. There was even a really bad american live action movie of it in the theater.
By the way...Ranma is and always will be the best anime/manga ever.

@Kraj: Well actually if you watch the movie "the secret" you will get an idea of what I am talking about. I dont remember the articles or books probably some in some science or psychological magazines.

@Shin: Hrmmm. For some reason it's just not coming to me. I want to say something like Fist of the North Star or Akira, but neither of those sound right... I'll probably think of it later and then :foreheadslap: for not thinking of it sooner.
The Tendo dojo was a pretty average place until Ranma Saotome and his father Genma arrived. Soun Tendo, the dojo's master, had promised one of his daughters in marriage to Genma, but on the appointed day of their arrival he is greeted by a panda and a girl instead of a father and son! It's soon revealed that during their martial arts training in China, Ranma and his father happened upon a magical cursed spring. Now whenever Ranma or his father is doused in cold water, they change into a girl and a giant panda, respectively, and change back in hot water. Soun finds himself amenable to their position, but what about his daughter Akane, to whom Ranma is promised?
Several more characters get introduced as the series proceeds, many of whom are in love with either the male or female half of Ranma. Will he ever succeed in love? What's a poor boy/girl to do?
If the art reminds you of Inuyasha, that's because this is another Rumiko Takahashi piece, one of her earliest works, and certainly one of her greatest. Like most Takahashi anime, it runs very long, spanning seven seasons and several OVAs and movies. This is one of the series that kicked off the anime fever in the US, being one of the first long anime that got brought over, and one of the flagmark instigators of the dub/sub debate. Besides being amazingly hilarious and entertaining, Ranma 1/2 is definitely an anime classic, so see it if you can get ahold of it.
Hey everybody, just stopping in to say good night because I've got to get to bed. Sorry I haven't really been making informative posts lately. I've just had a lot of stuff to do and it's really hard for me to find time to get on the computer. But I'm here, after watching yet another awesome episode of House and eating birthday cake :D.
@Alacar & Mr. Stuff: Thanks a ton guys! I really appreciate that. I really like yours, Alacar, but I'm going to wait to see if there are any new ones before I decide. Oh, and if you want to be creative and put a witty line in the banner also, that's fine with me. Thanks again if you guys can find time to make me one :).
@Shin: Hey! Welcome to the 'House. I don't think I know you, so, um, I'm strongbad, and yeah, that's pretty much it :). Enjoy it here, it is awesome.
@Cecilia: Hey kevin! How's it going?
Good night, everyone! Hopefully I'll find more time to post tomorrow.
Kraj is correct in that there really aren't any parts of the brain that aren't used. Everyone uses every part of their brain at some time, for some task. But most people don't use all the parts of their brain in all the ways that they could, or as often as they could.
The convention that people only use 10% of their brain is a misconception if the reality that the mind/brain has capabilities that often go unutilized. It's if the brain has so much potential power, and most people only like 5% or 10% of that power.
If anyting, using more "brain power" would involve neural functioning becoming more synergistic, with parts of the brain being utilized for more tasks, rather than additional areas of the grey matter actually coming into use. Does that make sense?
@Mr. Stuff: I have always wanted to see Ranma 1/, for reasons that are probably obvious.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel.
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.

No prob. I'm about to go off and see what Homestarrunner art I can find... Wish me luck. There's no way I'm getting to sleep before 3am today anyway.
Don't rush it. I'm in no hurry at all to get a banner. I just thought it would be a cool thing to have, and there's no way I could make one myself. If you need your sleep, go ahead.
But good luck finding art anyway. There should be lots of stuff to use. Thanks a ton :).
