Sooo many things to do...sitting here watching snow fall
Was hoping to get a ride to the grocery store from my roomie but he had a date last night that went pretty well, so he's spending the day with his new girl. So, er. time to put on my shoes and walk down.
Very lazy this weekend. I've started back playing that Age of Empires stuff and it's addictive as usual. I do well playing early in the day but if I wait until evening or after work to play, I'm usually too tired to focus and I lose pretty consistently and badly. Even just today I was making a lot of mistakes but managed to win somehow...don't know quite what I did RIGHT ;P
Yeah I remember being addicted to starcraft i would play it online for like 12 hours a day and 7 days a week especially when i didnt have school. I even played it about 5 or 6 hours a day after i would come home from school. I didnt really like being addicted to the game since it just took too much time but i was alot of fun to play. I then finally decided to throw away the game after 3-4 years of playing it online with other players from across the world by throwing away the game it prevented me from playing it some more.
Wow I hope the snow weather will die down soon for you SDA considering you need to get done with all of your stuff to do. Best wishes to you snoop.
Well its time for me to get back to my books. See you all soon. I will be on aol messenger if anyone wants to talk to me. Take care and have a great week everyone! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*

Love,
Cecilia
I still play Starcraft like a few hours a week. It really is an addiciting game, not like WoW or EQ (thank god I quit those) but it is actually fun to play, espically with a few friends. I hope all your books and work go well Cecilia. *Gives Cecilia a hug*
At first you spend too much time playing a game because it's new...then you spend too much time playing because you're getting good at it and want to be compettive. Then you realize you suck and lay it aside just to play casual.
I never got that far with Starcraft, though. It was only ever fun to play against other people on the network, so because I was never home and couldn't play at work, I never bothered. Saved by low tech!
Me: God, will someone go scrape Ms. Houston off the window again?
Mamelon: It looks like she cracked it.
Whitney: No way, crack is wack, crack is wack, crac- OOMPH!
Mamelon: She's down!
Sadly, we really have had our windows shellacked for diva protection. And she really was down.

I'm glad you are feeling better. You seem to be the spirit of happyness around here and when you're sad, eveything else seems to take a turn for the worse as well.
*blink* Aww, well thank you. I find it odd that anyone should associate me with happiness, but I won't let that stop me from accepting the compliment!
And I finally added some links to my signature, including one for my blog. Maybe I will eventually accumulate some readers.

Congratulations on being the first person on the site to make me pull out my dictionary. Given my posession of a BA in the English language, that's quite a difficult task. I'm rather stymied as to how I've not come across this word before, but regardless, of such a feat some form of recognition is deserved, and thus I take the the time to do so now. *Tips hat*
It's funny, I just used this word in one of my blog entries, and I wondered if it many would know what I meant.
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Blegh. Had to give out two warnings in the PnP Inn, and I'm not too happy about that. So, to make it up, I"m doing my Game of the Week. Very late, but I was busy these past few days. So, without further ado...
Final Fantasy XI is the name of the game. Now, I'm aware that there is a considerable World of Warcraft fanbase here, and probably some EQ2ers, but I don't play either of those games. FFXI got me hooked to an online RPG, and I'm leaving it at that (mostly since my comp can't handle WoW or EQ2 :p).
So, it's time for my game-story, as usual. This game came out about... Oh, I don't know, four years ago or so. I saw it, saw "Final Fantasy", saw "MMORPG", saw "Play on your PS2", and yelled "ROCK ON!" So I went to see how much it costed. Oh, not much. 30 buck game, 12 bucks per month, and 100 dollars for a hard drive to stick into your PS2. Wait, what? Right. Lots of cash. So I had to go save up to buy this stuff. Wasn't quite the most fun of waits. Finally I got it, only to find out a few months later that Sony officially abandoned the HDD for the PS2, meaning it's technology that'll never be used for any other thing. Not fun. I then took several breaks from the game, and returned to it on the 360, where I play it now.
This time, let's start with Graphics, hmm? The look of the game is amazing. Not as intricate as, say, Final Fantasy 12, but this game DID come out a few years before the newest Final Fantasy. Still, the environments look unique. From Windurst, the magic capitol, with its plains next door to a very nature-esque city, to Bastok, a complete technological wonder that exists in dry and barren canyon terrains. You can go from the Yuhtunga Jungle to Rabao, a city in the middle of a desert filled with ruins. Yes, you'll notice that there's some copy/pasting involved with things like trees and grass. However, on the whole, everything seems very unique. There's enough detail for you to notice and enjoy the world. As well, you also have the characters and monsters. As with most every RPG, the monsters DO repeat, and there's a set amount of different face/body types per race, so you will see repeating NPCs. But what can you expect, really? The lips tend to move when the NPC should be speaking, and there are some quite well done cutscenes. All in all, this is what I'd expect from a MMORPG. Yes, I've seen World of Warcraft, but that seems too toon-y to me. This seems realistic.
The sound is pretty good, too. While no more than you'd expect, you will find a couple of catchy songs here and there. Windurst and Bastok have nice ones, as does the Airship. The special effect sounds are nothing special, nor are the minimal voices. But hey, what can you do? I'd rate it low on the effects, but the music is good enough to keep this a relatively high score.
Storyline? There actualy is one, amazing enough. It's very basic, to tell you the truth, but it exists. What's nice, though, is there is a lot of interactions between different NPCs, the kingdoms, and everything. There's plenty to get immersed in.
And now I've stalled enough. It's time for gameplay. Now, I'll say again, I like the game. And I know there's plenty for me to do. However, the game is a bit annoying in that there's plenty of end-game content, and plenty to do on the way to endgame, but the entire game sort of asks you you continue leveling up constantly to get there. Which is where I have the issue.
See, every level, your 'experience until next level' increases just a little bit. You'll start by leveling from level 1 to 2 at 500 exp. And then it's 1000. Then 1200. And so on. Eventually it starts going up slower and slower. However, the issue is, the amount of EXP you get at level 1 is the same as you'll get from the same monster at level 75. 200 is the most you'll ever get, 'naturally', from a monsters. You can get more by 'chaining', which is killing many hard monsters in a row quickly, or from an experience points upper item, which gives you up to 50% more than you'd get otherwise. But 200 is just about it. So getting exp starts taking forever. You'll literally spend hours leveling to get one or two levels. This is a bit of an issue. You also will only get exp from a monster up to 3 levels below you, or so, so there's no real way you can do anything but party.
Now, there's plenty of stuff to do to get away from leveling. Go hunting! There's NMs (notorious monsters) which drop interesting and, sometimes, GOOD armor or weapons. But anything that drops anything worthwhile will always be camped. FFXI is a bit notorious now for having RMTs (real money traders) that take turns playing the same account so that a monster is 'camped' 24/7. They also use outside programs to get information about when the monsters will 'pop'. Many accounts are being banned for this behaviour, but more still pop up in their place. Not to mention that it takes hours, sometimes, to get a monster to pop, then you're fighting others to get it. And, even then, there's no guarentee you'll get the item. Sucks, eh? And you either have to hunt this armor, or buy it. Most of the armor is a must-have. This also goes for such things as spell scrolls, which you need to learn spells. Ouch.
But there's also quests. Hundreds of them. Thousands, perhaps. They involve everything from deliveries to killing monsters to fetching items. You can get anything from gold to super-items from these quests. The quests are also leveled in many cases, so there'll always be something to challenge you, if you want to actually get the items/whatever instead of just buying the item, like many do.
There's PvP, yes, but only in specific circumstances involved in 'games' FFXI has set up. Think Rugby/soccer with swords and magic. I'll let you look Ballista up, since I have no experience with it. I've heard that it gets a bit unfair at certain levels, since certain jobs wreak havoc.
Speaking of jobs, you know there's about 16 of them, right? White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, Thief, Warrior, and Monk are just the starting jobs. Hit level 30 and you can do hard quests to unlock more jobs. Paladin, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Samurai, Ninja, Bard, Beastmaster, Blue Mage, Puppetmaster, Corsair, Summoner, and I'm sure I'm missing one or two. All of them have unique abilities, all of them have unique spots in a party. And you can combine up to two jobs to have your perfect gaming experience. There's a catch, though. Most parties will only take certain combinations. Warriors and Monks always go together. A Red Mage (my job of preference) has to sub either a White or Black mage. Summoner has to have a White Mage, and Ninja's got to sub thief. Don't even bother playing a Paladin unless you're going to sub a Warrior. There's a reason for this: the job you sub gives you the stat bonuses of that job at half your main job's level. So you'll be a level 20 paladin, with level 20 paladin stats, PLUS the stats and abilities of a level 10 warrior. So there's reasons, but it's a bit annoying not being allowed to explore your options in a party.
Gosh, I could go on forever about all the stuff you can do. But I think I'll let you guys do a little research on this. There's PLENTY of stuff to do, if you level far enough. Spend some time to have a good time.
If anyone has the game and wants it, I'm on the server Ifrit, by the name of Nainebel. And I want no cracks about me playing a Mithra (cat-girl. Agility based and good at red mage, which is why I'm one of 'em), hmm?
Overall, the game gets a 7/10 for me. What it does, it does pretty well. I just want some changes so I'm not wasting my play-time killing monsters for measily experience.
Wow! I haven't posted since New Year's time, but alas I have about twenty seconds of free time.
I did read the last few pages, which were mostly about Mortal Wombat, but that's about it. I definitely haven't been here long enough to have strong opinions about anyone, so I may have a completely different perspective. I work in the tax department for a large company with very small turnover. I've only been there about a year and a few months, but I've learned so much about the people. The group is less than 20 of us, so we're pretty close. Well anyways, they made this announcement last week that two people's jobs had been eliminated. One of those people was someone I worked with five days a week, ever since I started. I definitely didn't take it easily. She talked with me about the things from work that mattered and about my personal life. She was always there with an open ear. Now she's gone from the company entirely, and that's the only way I ever knew her. A few of us in the department secretly got together and sent her a gift certificate and thank you card because we appreciated her so much. With that long drawn-out story being said, I guess what I want to say is this: just because someone is gone from the main way you've known them, it doesn't mean you can't keep in contact. An e-mail or instant messaging is still there, if you want to keep the "relationship" going. We are blessed each time we meet a new person by the lessons we learn from them. That includes the good and the bad. We must learn from others, because we cannot make all the same mistakes ourselves. [End big rant]
Things are going pretty well for the most part. I'm more crazy busy than ever working 25 hours a week and having 20 credit hours in school this term. Next term should only be 24 work and 16 school. I just won't know what to do with myself during all that free time, so yall may be stuck with me. :-P If not, I will probably start my big summer project: Cookbook number 2! If I get really daring, I may share a picture of me.
Welcome to all those I haven't met. Hello again to those of you I have. I hope everyone is well and staying warm. I'm a bit of a weirdo, because I'm absolutely loving this snow. Driving kind of stinks, but it's so beautiful.
With that being said, the last I have is big hugs for everyone and may the night fair thee well.
I hardly think it makes up for the warnings, but it's fine to me
Whew! I'm back from my sister's. We watched the first three episodes of the old 1990 Legend of Zelda animated series, and it was HILARIOUS. Zelda is a skank and Link is a lying, conniving pervert. And Ganon is a blundering idiot. These 13 episodes probably took place around the time of Zelda 20: We Ran Out of Ideas, slated to be released in 2032.
Regular of the week soon!

@Magic Mage: I'm half-German, actually. I don't actually speak German, nor do I have any real strong ties to my heritage, though.
Oh, is that so, then?
Random aside: But, Mamelon apparently speaks German, and has some 'real strong ties' to her heritage, and yet, if I understand correctly, you are siblings. I hope not to utter any undertones, though.
I know it's shan't. I like putting in two apostrophes, because it makes more sense that way, due to the double abbreviation, and it's not my fault if the English language, which makes little sense at the best of times(through, bough, rough) disagrees with me.
About that you should feel the same way you felt before.
If you say so, my lord, but as Photon has suggested, because schadenfreude is the sexiest German word?
Heh, no matter.
@tuatha. I <3 your banner. For some reason it reminds me of the food glorious food scene in oliver twist
Food, glorious food!
Hot sausage and mustard!

Cold jelly and custard!
Pease pudding and saveloys!
What next is the question.

Actually, I suppose Mam would be the first person to achieve that bodacious honor... *Tips hat to Mam.*
Though, I must contest the meaning of dysthymia (as used by myself therein; generally, it connotes that a person has some psychiatric condition (unipolar, etc.), is suicidal, etc.
I suppose dysphoria would have been more optimal a word, I suppose.
Sesquipedalian for ever and ever and ever and ever...^_^
Another English major-ish person? Wow. I cannot express my delight in hearing that.
I think I made it clear why MW was banned. People who don't learn after being warned and suspended and still can't behavior normally in discussions should not take part in internet fora.
And thus, sneakles has spoken, and the last word has been uttered.
I think you should start a clan for intelligent discussion. We can call it the Science, Politics, Art, and Music Clan... or just SPAM Clan for short.
Haha, NEWT, OWL, SPEW... ah, backronyms.
Anyway, science - no clan; maybe the Izzet, but they're already SPAM...:uhh: Politics - Incontrovertibly, this honor belongs to The Ivory Tower. Art - probably [Vogue], when it wasn't a shamble; quite possibly, this is another one for The Ivory Tower. Music - ostensibly the Musicmakers.
Huh......yet another miscommunication on my part. Geez, now I feel like more of an idiot.
There, there, there's no reason to feel more of an idiot, or even feel like an idiot, Jack.
Heartily returned. Geez, if you're still around for '07 forum awards, I'd nominate you for nicest member. I don't know ANYBODY else who gives hugs and kisses in every single post.
Um, in addition to kevinliu2333, maybe Sterling Angel... I dunno, but yes, kevinliu2333 is such a beloved member of the community.
Why, thank you! And I have already subscribed to your own.
Oh, why, thank you; I'm honored to have you subscribed to my blog. Maybe this signifies my need to up the content-ante, so that it isn't just frivolous, prolix nothings.
@Mortal Wombat: I am always inexplicably sad when someone gets banned, even when they deserved it. This includes Kroen. I know he got a lot of infractions, but I will mourn his passing, as some already have. The poor, misguided soul! He should have stayed away from Debate!
Why is vinegar sometimes so much more attractive than honey?
Kroen actually didn't get many *real* infractions; sure, he got a couple by posting inconsequential, and, as the Staff have deemed them, I guess, evocative of an emotional response *emo* threads. Initially it was trying to have him fixed, but now it's just banning him for he has broken the rules with every gimmick he creates. Of course, I cannot speak for the Staff.
By the way, everybody. I feel much better today. Maybe I was just low yesteday. I no longer suspect Yukora of long-distance kiss-stealing.
Well, my lady, it is such good news to hear that! I hope that you will not feel unhappy, or unwell for millennia to come.
And I finally added some links to my signature, including one for my blog. Maybe I will eventually accumulate some readers.
Could I be so resolute as to be your official fixated reader, in that case?

Mamelon has taken German classes and studied German culture, whereas I have not. That's primarily it. Our great grandparents on my mother's side were the children of German immigrants, and up until my mother's generation, they married into other German families. However, any cultural traditions held by my great-grandparents were dropped in favor of Americanizing themselves and adapting to the culture of this country, so by my grandmother's generation, you really couldn't tell us from Adam.
Meanwhile, Mamelon adopted a study of German culture and language while in high school, whereas I focused on other things.
That is rather remindful of those Panic! lyrics.>.>
Oh dear, it really rather is reminiscent of PatD. How horrifying.

Oh dear, I think we should avail ourselves to Pod's avatar, or whoever it is that has an avatar with two animated beings scampering hither and thither, while hollering excessively theatrical cries of 'OH NOES', and 'OMGZ'. Or not.:-/

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Hello people. Just thought I'd check in before heading to bed for the night. I've been leaving our internet on trying to download single episodes of anime overnight, and it seems to be working somewhat... I got 21% of one episode downloaded last night.
Also, today I finished the series "Miami Guns". While I was definitely entertained by the comedic bits, there were also things that just...
Tomorrow I'll be at work again for the first time in eight days. I'm not looking forward to it, but I'm not dreading it either. I guess I'm just somewhat content with my position in life right now, and secure in the feeling that this job isn't permanent. I (FINALLY - *berates self*) got my passport papers and such in order and ready to be turned in to the local post office, so I'll be doing that tomorrow after work.
Oh, no no no! There's no bile! I'm just explaining! I'm sorry if that came across that way. I was just explaining the situation, that is all. Really, you've not offended me at all, I was just continuing the conversation.
Oh, no! I'm sorry if it did happen that it came across that way, which it did not, of course, as I know you are lovely person; if you are offended, I am truly remorseful to have agitated you at all, Photon.
Frankly, I do not know how I appallingly construed your explanation, and for this, I am sorry, again.
Anyhow, ... good evening to you Americans. Enjoy the rest of your day.
See you all later.

I was rather confused, to say the least. There really is nothing to be offended at, though. I just was answering your question in regards to your comment about Mamelon, and then found it amusing that my quote about schadenfreud sounded like a lyric or song title you would see on a PatD song- which I found funny, because I have a rather large, running joke about PatD between some friends and myself.

Hrm, I posted the bit which was quite unconnected in smaller font, for it was not as, - more or less, to no purpose. I question why I posted that in size=1 font.
Schadenfreude.
I don't quite know actually. Your comment itself is, and was, fine, but it did seem rather, say, scathingly jaded, to me.
So, what is this big deal about PatD? Would you be able to expand on this running gag, without causing a great deal of irascibility?
I must say, both you, yourself, and your personality are remarkably interesting, Photon; you're unique, like everyone here, in your own way - that's pretty obvious, and is too frequently stated - but seem ... far more fascinating than the other members, with no disrespect to these equally fine people, for some reason.

Well, Josh likes them, but his other friends hate them with a passion, and they like to parody them quite often. Over time, I've started to jump in on occasion, but they tend to be the ones that get into it- fake album covers, song parodies, and other things of that nature. So, needless to say, next time I speak with them about it, I'll be sure to tell them all about PatD's "new single", Schadenfreude is the Sexiest German Word, and see how they enjoy that.
I apologize about that, my diction online is such that I often seem a good deal more arrogant and clipped than I actually am. Also, it doesn't help that I am aware of how I am often perceived, and tend to play it up out of a personal sense of morbid amusement.
It is interesting, and I daresay intriguing, that you say that about me. I've often been told I have a very intense personality, which I suppose is true enough. I suppose I'm something of an acquired taste, as people go, but I am grateful that some people do take the time to get to know me. I suppose I am rather jaded, though I really would rather that not be the case. I think it is better to have a sense of childlike innocence and naivety.

@ German: If I recall correctly, Photon talked about his family Americanizing themselves. My family is German as well, and the first generation to come to America instantly changed their name to be more American. I believe it was my great grandfather or his father. (I'm not really sure because my grandfather disowned us before I was even born. But that's a different story!) But anyway, I'm not sure this is the same as Photon's family, but for my family they moved at a very rough time when a Czar was forcing him into war. From what I know, he said it was such a horrible scenario they left, they wanted to forget it and start new as Americans. I think that's incredibly harsh, but I honestly can't say much with not being around back then. I'm sure each family has their own rhyme or reason to what they do and how they go about it. I would love to learn to speak more of the German language. It'd be great to be close to my heritage, but it would also help me decipher when my great uncle and grandpa (on the other side) argue. They argue over things like who the Pastor of their church was in 1964 and get so built up that they switch to German without knowing it. Also, there's a German student in my Microeconomics class and it's thrilling to hear stories from her. I love new people and like things that are much different than my normal.
Well, good night everyone. I wish you all well tomorrow, and a pleasant evening while it's here.
@Dreia: Good too see you back. I really enjoyed your tale about the co-worker. I often experience work in a similar way, so I found it touching. You seem quite well accomplished, if I may make that guess.

Off to work for me as well. Au Revior
Sadly, we really have had our windows shellacked for diva protection. And she really was down.
*blink* Aww, well thank you. I find it odd that anyone should associate me with happiness, but I won't let that stop me from accepting the compliment!
And I finally added some links to my signature, including one for my blog. Maybe I will eventually accumulate some readers.
@Starcraft: My younger brother used to be very into Starcraft. Me, not so much, but I remember really liking Warcraft II and III for their Map and World Editor capabilities. Best part of those games. I like how you could make custom units in Warcraft III. I used to spend hours making lots of little one-map RPGs with my own hero units. Such fun.
Edit
It's funny, I just used this word in one of my blog entries, and I wondered if it many would know what I meant.

My helpdesk should you need me.

I had a fun day. I even did some homework!
Oh dear, it really rather is reminiscent of PatD. How horrifying.

Oh, no no no! There's no bile! I'm just explaining! I'm sorry if that came across that way. I was just explaining the situation, that is all. Really, you've not offended me at all, I was just continuing the conversation.
Oyasumi.
