Well, only washed-up celebrities are allowed to be gay. Coming out is the new sham marriage. "OK, my career is essentially over, I guess it's OK now to come out. And heck, why not get a little publicity out of it while I'm at it?" God forbid a celebrity actually comes out at the height of their popularity.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
Wow, Mikey, I didn't realize that Hodoku was so... special. I decided to write him a PM:
Subject: "Liberals"
Body:
It is wonderful that you choose this fine forum to express your hatred toward liberals. Just so that you know, I am not a liberal. I am a libertarian in the European sense. I'm going to assume you're a "conservative," since that's how you behave. Of course, by conservative, we actually mean neoliberal statist. I'm going to give you fourteen reasons why you're political philosophy and standards for criticizing others are poorly thought out.
1) Gun rights amount to a civil rights issue, whereas search without probable cause and detention without charge does not.
2) You support "capitalism" at the same time that you support corporations. These things are mutually exclusive since capitalism works best without government intervention. Corporations are just government-protected enterprises. This is not capitalistic at all. I hope we do not continue in this direction. No less an authority than Benito Mussolini had a quote on this trend: "Fascism should rather be called corporatism, since it is the merger of state and corporate power."
3) You oppose "welfare" but your "conservatives" regularly vote to steal my family's money for the purpose of corporate welfare, or protectionism. We paid, or rather lost, staggering billions of dollars to pay for corporate subsidies and yet you complain about citizen welfare.
4) America's foreign policy is always that of the "good guy," even though the extent of the good that America has done after WWII was to destroy the USSR (certainly a laudable feat). However, in the process, we supported untold numbers of military coups that inaugurated fascist-style dictators that took their secret police operations directly from the Nazi playbook.
5) You oppose "political correctness" only when it comes to women, racial minorities and gay people, but anytime anybody criticizes Israel, even a little bit, they are "anti-Semitic."
6) Your neoliberal economic views have led to a decline in efficiency and competition, and most important, a decline in real wages since 1974. That's about 32 years of pillaging the American people.
7) Your idea of being "tough on crime" means marijuana busts and no rehabilitation since it's a "waste of time and money" but Big Tobacco can commit fraud, and Big Business can cook the books and get kid's gloves treatment. Also, your party's administration can't quite get Osama, but Henry Kissinger, a notorious war criminal, has not been "brought to justice."
8) Affirmative action discriminates against white males.
9) Gay marriage threatens the institution of marriage even though divorce rates are up, orphans are without homes, gay people pay more in taxes because they don't get the same exemptions that heterosexual couples do.
10) Gay people shouldn't be in the military because they will drop their M-16s and have hardcore anal sex during combat, resulting in a lack of "unit cohesion" that in turn will result, somehow, in the whole unit getting killed. All this, even though numerous other countries including Israel have gay people in their Armed Forces and the world has yet to collapse.
11) You do not believe in "freedom" in any meaningful sense. First, you think that economic freedom means the freedom to have the government steal my money to subsidize it, and that corporations are free to exploit workers. You think that social freedom is of no significance other than for white, heterosexual males.
12) Men can legitimately be drafted, but women, can't, despite their good marksmanship. This is what we call "equality" between men and women.
13) "Personal responsibility" is a PC word for "the poor should have to fend for themselves" whereas corporations should pay a negative amount in taxes.
14) "Moral equivalence" is a strawman argument and code word for "you can't criticize American foreign policy." We may not have been as bad as Hitler and Stalin, but that does not does not excuse, say, our overthrow of Chile's elected government in '73, or Guatemala's in '54, and so on.
So, basically, I challenge you to reexamine your thoughts and come up with a coherent philosophy that is not based on applied situational ethics and moral relativism.
Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:

But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
I'm not that familiar with this poster's posts, but from what I read of this post (and the gay marriage post) I think I will enjoy a response to these points.
"First thing first - why the **** are you talking to me?
Second off - way to assume a ****ing ton. Youre off the mark on so many things here - then again, you are a liberal. Really, I dont see why you bother with this.
Here - I'll assume about as much as you did. Youre poor as **** - and you want to steal my hard earned money. You claim to support equality, yet you want graduated tax brackets and other programs to make the rich pay for 90% of your goddamned expenses. Three of your best male friends suck dick, so you support ***s - I find it to be a moral and biological abomination, so you attack me.
Isn't it crazy? I really couldn't give a crap about talking to you or your kind, yet you go out of your way to attack me. Congrats, you've lived up to the liberal stereotype, and proved Us correct.
I sincerely hope I don't have the displeasure of getting any more PMs from you ever again.
Danke."

It might amount to flaming or harrassment since he said "I sincerely hope I don't have the displeasure of getting any more PMs from you ever again."
It'd only be harassment if you were intentionally trying to antagonize him. Trying to get him to discuss your thoughts on his opinions isn't really harassment. He can't really report you for trying to have an adult conversation, even one where the two of you disagree quite strongly on the matter.
I always get so fed up "liberalism vs. conservativism" debates. This weekend I was listening to my father rant about how "conservative" people have the good of society in mind, and that "liberals" are always advocating crazy nutjobs in what he called "the outskirts of society."
I find the entire schism very eyeroll-worthy. Just as "conservatives" believe that liberals are crazy, the "liberals" may find conservatives to be rigid. The mudslinging amounts to little more than opinion and propaganda and I've never seen it help any person or cause whatsoever.
Conservativism has always been primarily about maintaining overall social stability, and liberalism has always been about advocating the underdog and seeing to it that stability doesn't come at the cost of life or liberty.
I don't think they're at all incompatible, and in fact both are necessary. But because of the divisiveness most people seem to tend towards, which is only agitated by partisanship, we end up with stubborn faction mindsets, insisting opposing mindsets assimilate rather than trying to find meaningful balance.
It's weird that he thinks you "proved him right about liberals" when you were being more constructive and clear than he was. He was the one claiming that homosexuality was obviously a psychological disorder according to his "education," despite the fact that homosexuality ostensibly fails to meet even the most elementary practical condition for such a characterization.
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
I usually avoid those debates. I know how I feel about the issue, and I don't need to prove my point to people that won't listen. I'm pretty content living my life and letting other people live their life.
Sure, I agree with you on the irony part, but I see neither liberalism nor conservatism as necessary.
Conservatism is very authoritarian in my view, and authoritarianism is bad. Not only does it oppress all of the gaymers here, it doesn't even make sense morally.
Liberalism is great except that, and again, this is my view, it just advocates a more humane slavery. For example, raising the minimum wage is great, and I advocate it, but it is a minimum wage, after. It's the least amount that we can pay people to survive. So, people are still slaves to their employers insofar as they depend on their employers for their very existence. This much needed reform does not go nearly far enough to solving the real problem which is capitalism itself. Those who work deserve the full product of their labor, not some wage that is given to them by their employer who deigns to hire them. The only way to do that is to see that the workers, not the public, much less private enterprises, control the means of production.
Returning to conservatism, all it advocates is an economic state of nature with a supurbly strong state. To that end, conservatism advocates that the state--that is, the means of violence--be used to defend private and unjust control of the means of production.
While I think that elements of conservatism make sense, like fiscal responsibility, and while elements of liberalism make sense, like sensitivity toward minorities, I hope that in the future we can transcend these political constructs and advocate a more radical change.

Goatchunx, I meant that those things (such as fiscal responsibility, sensitivity toward minorities) which conservativism or liberalism are constructed to protect are necessary. The actual "isms" themselves aren't, I agree.

I just wanted to stop in and say that this made me smile:

Also, how's it going, everyone? Haven't stopped in for a while.
Alright I have to chime in on the liberalism/conservativism theme going on in here.
I myself am Liberal, but living in a place like Santa Cruz means that Im surrounded by radical liberals. Ive actually begun to hate liberalism a little bit here since so many poeple refuse to acknowledge any other point of view other than thier own and have a tendancy to judge harshy anybody they run into who doesnt agree with thier politics. Hell I even get criticized for playing video games and not eating only organic food, but thats a whole 'nother story all together.
Becuase of this, myself and my roomates make it a point to act as Republican as we can around these poeple, living fully to our creed which is: "Our political affliation is the opposite of whatever you just said." Living upto this simply makes for more interesting conversations. It also demonstrates to others our ability to reflect on both sides of the spectrum and our willingness to know and understand both sides of the story, which sadly alot of poeple dont do.
That being said, I dont know much about Hodoku, but it seems to me that he generates the most controversy here. I feel (although im not really sure) that he is one of the few people on these boards who makes very conservative posts and lets his point of view, no matter how extreme, be know. If this is the case, then I actually commend Hodoku for posting conservatively on what seems to be a liberal-slanted message board. Even though I dont agree with him on much of what he says, the more points of view represented on this message board the better.
Now, in regards to Goatchunx's message to Hodoku. Let me first say that I dont approve. Its fine if you dont agree with his politics and want to have a rational debate with him, but I wouldve messaged him first inviting him into such a debate. What you did with your message, is simply attack his politics, albeit in a reasoned and rational way. Its no surprise he reacted the way he did, and I probably would have reacted the same way if someone randomly wrote me a PM telling me that all my arguements are wrong. Although I agree with you on many of the points presented in your letter, I found it kinda passive aggressive and I dont think it was the right way of going about it.
If you really really wanted to get him into a debate, you should have written him something like this: "Hey Hodoku, Ive seen some of the things youve written on the boards here and I would like to have a talk or debate with you about politics." He might have gone for it, he might not have. But what you did with your letter is put him into a defensive position immediately, which guaranteed that he was not going to respond positively or constructively.

"Tales of Cisco-induced semi-psychotic fits are common. Nudity and violence may well be involved too. Everyone who drinks this feels great at first, and claims, "It's not bad at all, I like it." But, you really do not want to mess around with this one, because they all sing a different tune a few minutes later. And by tune, I mean the psychotic ramblings of a raging naked bum."
Mamajason: Sure. I was being a jackass. But that's because I didn't expect him to change his opinions at all.
T2: Heh, thanks. I'm still a socialist though, not a capitalist. I'm a socialist in the sense that I believe in worker (not public) control of the means of production. And I only believe in ownership in what has been legitimately produced and traded for, which means, for example, that I don't think that land can be owned, since nobody produced it.

Yes, well, I hadn't expected you to convert. I'm just happy you better understand the [perfect, infallible, wonderful] system of Capitalism.
I've understood it for some time, ever since you and ljossberir and I talked. However, I still find it immoral. How do you avoid monopolies with capitalism?

The name's David and I've been openly bisexual for about as long as I known, bicurious for much longer.
Anyway, I like basketball, MTG, Hecatomb, listening to music (The Killers, stuff like that), and more.
Cool to see a clan like Gaymers around, figure it's a pretty tolerant forum. I wish I could chime into the debate, but I just registered.

No, this is not a tolerant forum. Too many tards here.
Heh, I know it doesn't keep me from debating but I'm too out of the current topic to jump in.
It isn't? Ah, I guess I luckily haven't seen any tards just yet, thanks for the welcome though.
Any Hecatomb Gaymers here? I played MTG for about 7 years but I'm really into HT now.
Without the protections provided by corporate constructs, it is insanely difficult to monopolize a given field. Every company that has ever been considered a monopoly has been a corporation.
I mean, my intellect is far-and-away above that of the average fifteen-year-old, but, on the other hand, this is also completely removed from my experience.
So I have a vague grasp of what's going on, but not much.
So that's why I haven't been chiming in overmuch.

Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}
Yes, well, I hadn't expected you to convert. I'm just happy you better understand the [perfect, infallible, wonderful] system of Capitalism.

That does not keep you from debating.
