Speech went well. I ate a good breakfast and warmed myself up (and woke myself up) before the speech and I got it going good.

Omna+Arguas: Yeah, they probably should announce it officially themselves, but it's good to hear a bit of news. We'll still be happy to accept your formal announcement, you guys!
Net decking: I like to take the core concept of a Net deck and twist it my own way. Pristine Angel + Serra's Blessing is neat. Pristine + Concerted Effort is awesome. I have Photon Eater to thank for coming up with that one with me. It's not about which one's the best. All decks can shine if they're built well, regardless of whether they're net-decks or not. It's about originality. If you are in any way a Johnny, you'll like to make your own decks or at least take the core concept of a net-deck and work on it. Tweak that Tooth and Nail deck to include Tidespout Tyrant. Make something intriguing. If you don't mind running net decks, then do what you want. Personally I don't mind seeing net-decks, but I like to see a variety of decks in the first place. I never have less than 3 decks built at any given time.
Well, I'm off to play D&D today. I'll be back later tonight.
also, thanks for the coffee, Faerie Lord, even if it's cold!
I don't have much to contribute to the anti-netdeck arguments, since I'm neither for or against them. They're a small evil, but a necessary one. It doesn't really do much good to rail against something that's gonna happen as long as the internet exists, IMO. It's part of the tournament scene, from now until the forseeable future. A good compromise is taking a winning deck that you like and fiddling with different cards and numbers until you have something that's different enough to be your own, but still good enough to win. I do that sometimes. I prefer creating my own, but sometimes you have to realize that some cards are universally called "good" for a reason, and to win in an environment containing them you'll have to have a deck that uses them.
Well, anyway, the weekend is finally here, and I it's time for me to spend massive amounts of time catching up on anime. I think I'll start off tonight with Kage Kara Mamoru, and maybe work on Noir or Astro Boy or something tomorrow.
@alacar: well i am glad your speech went well yeah ive done that quite a few times staying up late to do a speech or study for a midterm or a final exam done well in them but those all-nighter surely do help alot though imo.
@MW: well good luck with your work in seminar.
I am really glad the weekend is here as well at least i dont have to worry about getting up at 5:30am in the morning tommorrow.:p I might go to a card shop this weekend but not sure yet.
Man, can't get moving tonight...sooo much work to do but I can't help wanting to take a day off and just space out.
I've never been able to function after an all-nighter. Pulled quite a few, but only out of sheer desperation, and the yield was marginal. Much better to intensify study for the week before a test and then last evening before, a quick comprehensive review and then early to bed. Also, I seem to do much better when I've had little or nothing to eat for the few days before the test. Maybe not being distracted by the thought of food, or not eating the usual loads of junkfood and coffee I lean on to get me through study hours, is better. I just feel more ... alert and sleep better when I'm not pouring on the caffeine and sugar.
@Netdecking: I don't care either way about it. Whatever helps you win is fine by me.
I just got back from a dinner at the Hillel House... and I ate too much dairy and threw up in the bushes near the entrance. My friend walked me back, which I thought was very sweet of her. I'm going with her and a couple of her friends to a pole-dancing party at one of the frat houses at 10:30. I'm certainly not going to drink, because I fear that'll make me puke again.
I don't go to tournements yet, so I haven't really experienced net-decking. I'd probably get annoyed by it if my fun decks never won an fnm because of net decker's though.

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
I'd do some catching up but I totally don't feel like it. Sorry everyone... I try my best but tonight it just isn't there for me. But I do wanna comment on my views on netdecking:
There's a right way and a completely wrong way. First up for casual - its been banned from the group I used to play in. And I'm one of the guys who brought it up first. It's just not right to do it that way.
Secondly, par tournament, the main argument applies. It's ok ONLY if you actually go thru the work of playtesting the thing rigorously with your playgroup and you feel comfortable enough playing the thing. I dunno how many freaking times I see people just see a list on the internet and get things blindly for the deck without ever even netplaying the deck or even proxyplaying it. It annoys me to no end that people do this and it's just freaking stupid. Just stop. Metagame people - metagame (not to be confused with Metagross). If you can't metagame your deck you have no clue how to even build a deck and that's my requisite for netdecking in a nutshell - if you've built your own decks damn fine and won with them then I have no problem with you netdecking because you've already proven you could win.
A nice middle ground I'd like to think....
Anyway it feels like the last few days have been sucking the life otu of me slowly since I've been busy burning DVD's for my mom and dealing with people's BS. For example, why do people always think the place where I live is the first place where my friends will go? It's annoying to no end. Sorry for the rant people but I had to get that off my chest. I apologize ahead of time....
Sorry I sort of left this whole conversation earlier, I have a bit more input I pretty much want to get across. I was just sent to the ER earlier to get stiches because I was stupid and cut a good chunk of my middle finger on my left hand making lunch, and I have 4 stiches in that finger and i was drugged up for most of the afternoon, so I missed FNM anyways.
Netdecking is not always the wrong thing to do. A problem with it though is when people try to as CA said, take a random deck, go in blindly and think that they are better then you just becasue they have the best deck. I hate to say this, but the deck is influenced alot by the player and not the deck itself. If people and groups take all the decks in the format, run the gauntlet and a netdeck just happens to look the best for the format and you know how to run it, I would agree with your choice to run it. For example, ill use my playtest groups. The old one I used to be a part of would constantly have a list of every viable archtype we found, kept them in a database, and ran them against the others over the week. Then friday night, we would usually pick lists to use for FNM, and there discuss what changes we wanted to make to the list. Netdecks arent just all about what is in their core, but how they react to counter the powerhouses. Another example can be my current playtest group. We arent as hardcore as the old group I was a part of, but we each know what lists to go with, run them against the netdecks, because the netdecks will be some of the most popular. Our lists are then changed based on flaws against a certain deck/weaknesses in general, and then we test some more. In the end, like last years Regionals, we pretty much got to the point where we knew that Tron was probably our best bet, so we all went with a Tron list tweaked against the most popular decks. We got 2 people within the top 16, and the other three got 19, 24, and 37.
Then of course you throw all strategy and planning out the window sometimes, as this is a game based on a certain amount of luck. Two years ago, I played magic, and came off a 4 month hiatus because my friend wanted to go to a JSS. So I went, and threw together a deck in the car based on what I found within an hour of researching the metagame here. It was a shoddy Sligh Burn deck, but I got 2nd place, really can not complain to that. But I would not go with this as the rule, it was just a strange anomaly that shows that Rogue decks do have a compeitive edge (even though this was JSS and it sort of isnt that competitive, but its still at a higher level then most FNMs ive seen), and it also showed that the most important option to build a deck is to know what you are getting yourself into (the metagame), and make sure you can use your deck, dont grab a netdeck you probably will suck at.
Wow, that was a long post, my fingers are killing to type like this, and the drugs are making me drowsy. Ill see you all tomorrow.
I just got word from my mom that my stepdad is very ill. I'm not sure I want to get into the details, he specifically forbade me to know, but nonetheless...
Any suggestions? The idea is to mana accel like a ***** and drop out early EtW with a sizeable storm count. Oh, and then like, do crap with goblins. Like maybe attack. Or block. Crazy.
Photon, I feel as if you keep spawning new siblings. You have an even younger sister?
The way I see it, there's a few ways the deck could expand - you could add cards that make the deck more consistant. (Specifically, ways to find the relevent cards and/or keep your hand pretty full in case it takes a little while to find what you need.) You could add other things that abuse the fact that you're playing with eight mana accel cards, like Grapeshot or just pricy red spells. Or, you could focus on the fact that if things go according to plan, you're going to have a pile of 1/1 goblins.

Other cards I used included Grapeshot, and Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician. And actually, it was more like 12 mana accel cards- I also had put in Izzet Signets just in case I wanted to try anything crazy with Goblin Flectomancer. (Remember, I never claimed the deck was great, we literally just pulled stuff together. It was sort of one of those cases where we were looking over cards and thinking "Hmmm, I've never played this... I wonder what it would be like?"- but now I want to refine a basic idea out of it). It was still a turn 6 win, though, which wasn't bad considering that it was a crappy casual deck thrown together while eating pizza and watching Spongebob Squarepants. So I think the concept has the potential to be fun, at least in my playgroup.
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned my sister Emily before. Maybe not to you specifically, but I assure you, I'm not creating more siblings- not after that accident in '94, lemme tell ya.
@Snoop: Yeah I hope everything goes well and your step dad will get well soon.
I just wanted to stop by to say hello to you all. But wow this year has been going by too fast it just seems like yesterday that it was new years of 2006. Each year seems to go by faster and faster well it seems like to me anyway I just think thats insane.
I'm sorry to hear about your stepdad, Snoop. Unfortunately if they're not telling you what's wrong with him... I won't go there.
Photon's deck needs Lotus Blooms and some kind of haste enabler, like that one card in Mirrodin whose name I forget right now. You want your goblins to attack as soon as possible.
I wish I were making this up but I'm not: my roommate took a whizz in front of the door to our room ten minutes ago. He just got up, stood in front of the door, and next thing I hear is a tinkling sound. I shouted at him but he didn't answer. After he relieved himself he just climbed back into bed as if nothing happened. What's worse is that the bathroom doesn't have paper towels so I can't clean it up.

Man, that does bite i wish you were making it up as well.
Well i like to use goblin warchief so i can attack as soon as possible(gives all goblins haste) and get out goblins pretty fast considering warchief makes all of your goblins cheaper to play and there is always aether vials as well plus they make your goblins uncounterable which is always a good thing. Then there is goblin lackey which gives goblins even more speed so yeah goblins is all over the place. MW are you thinking of mass hysteria?

i'd wake him up and rub his goddam nose in it. Foserious. Not your job to clean up after some spoiled blue-blooded snotface.
So I found out what's going on with my stepdad, a little anyway, and it's serious enough that I'm changing my holiday plans and going back to spend some time with the family. I apparently am not even supposed to know about it, but mom told me knowing I would want to know. just that there's nothing anyone can do about it at this point. He has always had mental/psychological difficulties and i don't think he realizes how serious this is. He waited so long to be seen by a doctor that I'm afraid it might be not long.
@Photon: That deck screams a need for tech. In this case, Lyzolda, the Blood Witch and the two in-colorRusalkas seem particularly hot. Blocked goblins? They're still goin at ya head or, at the very least, goin for additional creature removal! Infernal Tutor, while somewhat pricey, would definitely also help since you need multiples of the same card anyway.
Funny, tho, we all ended up with slightly different deck ideas.

Are you sure he's not sleepwalking (or sleep-weeing as the case may be)???? Or at the very least blasted-out-of-his-mind drunk? Cause that ain't right yo...
But hey, I can top that story. Growing up, I had a friend who was known for some pretty outrageous behaviors- I mean, his nickname to this day is Drunken Whore, so that sort of gives you an idea of what sort of person we're dealing with here. Anyway, one night he had to pee, right? But someone had locked the bathroom door in his house.
So naturally, his response was just to piss on the living room carpet. (Keeping in mind he was in his middle teenage years at this point) Anyway, when his family discovered it, they blamed it on the dog (because I mean, what sort of civilized human pees on their own floor?). He found this so amusing that he continued to pee on the floor in the house in various places when no one was looking for a good week or two.
And while his dog continued to get the brunt of his family's ire, he found it all increasingly amusing- at least up until the time he got caught, as his father walked in on one of his excretory pranks, and was like "IT WASN'T THE DOG!!!"
So to this day, we enjoy a good chuckle about that (and we'll usually tease him and such as "Okay Joe, you can come in the house, but you can't sit on the furniture unless you promise not to pee on it", or "hang on, let me put down some newspaper, and you can come over"). So now, every time someone mentions someone urinating in a place they shouldn't, I feel the need to share that story. Because come on, wtf.
Meanwhile, the suggestions for my deck idea are interesting, as they really showcase the tastes and playstyles of the people making the suggestions.
I definitely think that Lotus Bloom is the way to go, along with a few other 0 mana artifacts, since those seem to be a common idea. I think I would rather it not be a BR deck, since that is treading into ground that Josh has covered time and time again, and I would rather do something on my own, rather than just revisit one of my boyfriend's most common deck archetypes.
@Alacar. You where just dying to type skullclamp eh?
I hate that people still give Skullclamp a bad rep. Yes, it's powerful. GOOD. It's useful in this deck. It's the most powerful card in the deck, next to the Warrens. I use it, and it's high time people admitted that they want to use it too.
I dunno about Photon, and I'm guessing he's gonna be against the idea, as it doesn't seem very creative (at least to him).
Which brings up a question I'm gonna ask everyone: What do you think of Skullclamp?
I really like the clamp as a casual card, its really not that overpowered as people have said it to be, and I still see it as overrated. One of the major reasons why it was abused and subsequently banned were the cards it interacted with, which were later banned anyways. I wish I could have used it more, my favorite deck during Onslaught-Mirrodin T2 was WW Equip, and between the clamp and Sword of Fire and Ice I had lots of fun. I was a bit dissappointed when it got hit with the banhammer, but sometimes you just get on with it and move along.
Also, my team is deciding wheter or not to go to GP:NJ next week, I may go just because Rebecca Guay will be there to sign stuff, and Im still dying to play more Sealed TS.
Yeah i liked WW as well it reminds me alot of angel stompy which still see play in legacy and its still does well if piloted correctly. It is just refreshing attacking with a white weenie equipped with a sword of fire and ice and then later a umezawa's jitte to me anyway.
I am probably going to get final fantasy 12 next week its going to be pretty cool. That reminds me though im still 56 percent done with enchanted arms still havent played it for like 5 weeks or something i should get started on it again when i have the time.
About my roommate: I told him about his little action last night, and I think he believes me, but I'm not sure. One of the other guys on the floor says it doesn't smell, so he might not have done it, but I know that he did since I was a witness.
In other news I need a haircut, so I'm planning on taking a shuttle to somewhere where I can get one. Also I'm planning on going bowling with the Hillel guys at 7:15, since my parents want me to do more than party on the weekends.
@Skullclamp: What makes the card not fun to play against is that it bends the color wheel. It gives any color with a decent mana supply and cheap creatures unfair card advantage, and it's not hard to build around either. I've played with it in my friend's arcbound deck, and I liked drawing 8 cards a turn, but it's quite unfair at the same time.
Yeah skullclamp is severely broken especailly back then with all of those affinity aggro decks running around in standard. I remember those days when i actually played type 2 competitively. Although its a pretty fun card in casual though I should get some for my mono green deck it can be a real stress reliever at times well to me anyways.
Are you sure he's not sleepwalking (or sleep-weeing as the case may be)???? Or at the very least blasted-out-of-his-mind drunk? Cause that ain't right yo...
Don't laugh! I've seen this happen! It's more a combination of the two. My mom did that one night while I was playing my GC. According to my brother, who just got out of the shower, saw her walk outside onto the porch and start the fun. She had no idea she did it the next day and we all had a good laugh.
I hate that people still give Skullclamp a bad rep. Yes, it's powerful. GOOD. It's useful in this deck. It's the most powerful card in the deck, next to the Warrens. I use it, and it's high time people admitted that they want to use it too.

I wasn't around for MD5, so I don't know what the big hype about skullclamp is. Sure, I know that it can create good card advantage, and also the completely broken synergy with affinity, but other than that, it doesn't seem too fantastic.
Perhaps I don't know just how good it is, because I've never had to play against it.

Meanwhile, my sister gave me a new signature tonight. Also, we ended up dragging out a lot of cards and just making random crap decks to play.
I decided, after throwing together some uR affair, that I think the deck I want to build is a deck around Empty the Warrens.
I don't know exactly what I want to do with it, but this is the core of the deck I used tonight-
4 Seething Song
4 Rite of Flame

So I found out what's going on with my stepdad, a little anyway, and it's serious enough that I'm changing my holiday plans and going back to spend some time with the family. I apparently am not even supposed to know about it, but mom told me knowing I would want to know. just that there's nothing anyone can do about it at this point. He has always had mental/psychological difficulties and i don't think he realizes how serious this is. He waited so long to be seen by a doctor that I'm afraid it might be not long.

Edit:
Thanks, though, everyone!

I dunno about Photon, and I'm guessing he's gonna be against the idea, as it doesn't seem very creative (at least to him).
Which brings up a question I'm gonna ask everyone: What do you think of Skullclamp?

Also, my team is deciding wheter or not to go to GP:NJ next week, I may go just because Rebecca Guay will be there to sign stuff, and Im still dying to play more Sealed TS.
I am probably going to get final fantasy 12 next week its going to be pretty cool. That reminds me though im still 56 percent done with enchanted arms still havent played it for like 5 weeks or something i should get started on it again when i have the time.
Don't laugh! I've seen this happen! It's more a combination of the two. My mom did that one night while I was playing my GC. According to my brother, who just got out of the shower, saw her walk outside onto the porch and start the fun. She had no idea she did it the next day and we all had a good laugh.
Windmills do not work that way!
