Congrats, Joyd, on Regular of the Week. I didn't know you really before, but now I almost know you a little, I guess .
Yeah, apparently, today was way colder than normal for the Bay Area. Plus, it's supposed to get colder. I guess it's time for sweaters and whatnot. Oh, and yeah, like Mortal Wombat said, it will only get worse because of global warming, which is really screwing the country over.
I'm building a deck with Arguas' custom set... and using my Academy deck, I beat Alacar this morning, forgot the stats... and beat Arguas tonight, 2-1.. hehehe... I really like my deck...
Anyways... Just wanted to pop in, all, and say hi
Also! Joyd! Congrats on the RotW! *hands Joyd mushroom quiche, and sits down with him to share it*

Hostess Question: Best book ever? And why?
Yes.. Omna did beat me. But not before I managed to slam down a 22/22 flying Viggorith.
Best book ever? The Lord of the Rings. Look at its sales--it's the second best selling book ever next to the bible. It's a grand story that all boils down to the most basic of good vs. evil.
There are a good number of other good books out there, but that's my stand.
If I had to pick a book, I'd say The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman. Or, at least, I think that's his name. I'm too lazy to get up and check. In any case, it's just an awesome story. The sequels are... Well, nothing to be too proud of, I'm afraid. But the original is great.
And for any other fans of the "His Dark Materials" series, we're finally getting a movie (with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig [the new Bond]) sometime 2008. I wish I knew who was playing Lyra.
There's also going to be a video game, but I think I'll give that a miss.
OMG I LOVE The Golden Compass -- that series is amazing.... I read the second one.. never read the i think, third one... i really need to read them again.... that's what i think of every time i hear the word Oxford hehe...
And Lord of the Rings naturally is great.... how can it not be hehe... But I haven't read 'em.. except i read the Hobbit, and made it around halfway through Fellowship before giving it up...
That was when I was in like, 8th grade tho...lol. -- anyway, i HATE to give up books midway....its so annoying because I like to say I finished a book, whether it was godawful or not... heh....
Guess that's the Librarian in me.... Well I'm building a Sanctuaries deck and just kind of meandering around..... I'm going to be building another deck at some point, of Rav block most likely.... heh.... RWB ftw
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Good morning everyone! It is currently 5:14am right now for me. I am just getting ready to go to clinicals but i just have about 3 days left after this then I am done for the semester seems like this semester just kept on dragging on and on but I am glad its almost over. Also hopefully i will find out who got the internship position today. Anyways I'll cya all later! Have a great day everyone.
Yes, The Golden Compass is the first book in the His Dark Materials series.
Omna... I'm not sure what to tell you about the third book. It's always been a bit of a disappointment to me, to tell you the truth. It just doesn't have the spark that the other two books have. While I believe you should read it, just to get some closure from the series, please don't expect a lot from it. The third book, if you weren't aware, is called The Amber Spyglass.
I've actually been wanting to start reading a new fantasy series lately. Someone here told me to look into Song of Ice and Fire. Any review on that?
Yeah - I have A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, and A Storm of Swords all sitting on my bookshelf. Key thing here - of all the books on my bookshelf, that's the only series I haven't finished. I just lost interest in it. Tons of other people like it, but 1) there's no magic and 2) It's got way too many names and faces to remember easily, IMO. I just got tired of reading it somewhere towards the end of book two.
If you want a really, really, (did I mention really?) good fantasy series, go for C. S. Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy, which begins with Black Sun Rising. Soooooo awesome - I'd put it as my second favorite fantasy next to LOTR. Read that first, but if you're looking for even more, here're my suggestions:
Well, just finished writing the outline for my "Gay Marriage Rights" speech to be given today. I'm a bit annoyed, since most of the rest of the schools on the Front Range seem to be closed due to snow, but, as usual, my college isn't even delayed at all. I swear, they'd make us go to school in a blizzard. It's a relief that they allow the teachers to make the judgment whether they hold class or not.
The speech should be good, and I hope to get a good grade on it. It was a five minute thing, really (took me two hours to write and finish), but eh. I'm always lazy about these assignments, but I usually get the grade regardless.
Hello there, I'm the new guy. At least if you grant me entrance to the Coffeehouse. The overwhelming Coffeehouse logos in everyone's signatures finally were too much for me, and here I am..
What, introduction? 'Aight, for you who don't know me from the allmighty [499]...
I'm a 17 year old Norwegian male, who is studying at a football school (:D), playing MtG, and sometimes, when I feel like it, I also play some computer games. I don't read very much, but I do sometimes. I like fantasy, Harry Potter, and some criminal novels. My biggest addict is still MtG though. I've been playing for a little over 4 years, since the release of Onslaught. My favorite card shall remain a secret, though

Anyway... hi.
So yesterday, I was carrying some batteries in my pocket, when suddenly, I felt a really intense heat in my right leg. I freaked out for a minute, not knowing what it was, and reached into my pocket to find that the batteries were searing hot for some reason. I'm not really sure what happened, but I don't think I'll carry batteries so close to my person anymore.
@Ungenni Kemo: Those books sound interesting. Fantasy with a sense of realism is always interesting, I think.

Favorite book? Easy. 1984. Can't beat a classic. My aunt gave me the His Dark Materials trilogy a few Hanukkahs ago, but I've never read them. I don't know when I will either, since I've got so much on my plate.
@Sene: A familiar face! Welcome, and enjoy your stay.
@ mr. stuff: I heartily endorse all your choices. When's Crows out?
@UnK: grapefruit = dobrzej in all its forms. Peel 'em and eat 'em like an orange.
@ sene: Velkommen
@ photon: I could make a naughty joke but I won't...that's weird though, were they leaky or something? Only time I've ever had batteries get hot were the cell phone batteries, and in the charger.

Wow, thanks! Heh, is cocoa with marshmallow a normal thing here? Interesting...

@Sene: A familiar face! Welcome, and enjoy your stay.
Hello! Yeah, I know you from the countless Opinions & Polls threads, as well as the World Cup Thread...
Favorite book eh? I think I'll have to say The Silmarillion. I've given my opinion on that book in several threads before on Sally, I think I'll just quote myself from one of those, "What's the best novel of Tolkien?":
Quote from Sene »
I voted Silmarillion. The first time you read it, it's not as good as LotR because of all the names and places and a little messy storyline, but when you read it the second time, it's brilliant. Because then you know the characters and can focus more on the exciting stories about Turin, Tuor, Beren, Gondolin, and the rest of Beleriand. I think I've read it five or six times, and it's better each time I read it
LotR is of course excellent read as well, but there are too many "dead spots" in my opinion, where nothing is happening.
Im really not a big book fan, but the Hitchhikers Guide Triology of 5 books has had a nice spot in my heart for the last 4 years or so.
*Going back to a few things from last nights posts:*
Nan: Master Quest was IMO better than the original OOT. And even though most of the puzzles were changed and made harder, I feel that they actually made the Water Temple easier in it.
Also, welcome to the coffeehouse, Sene.
Well, im just going to do my normal daily calc work, then going out to dinner for my mom's birthday.
It was actually me who said it, Namcon. And I had heard that the Water Temple was easier, but didn't believe it. I might just go back and beat it now. Or... Just go and find my original OOT game, hook up the old 64 and start battling evil again.
Sonic is getting a bit irritating. Many of the levels are those 'memorize how to do it after 80 tries' type of deals that you have to deal with. And they don't seem to give many of the check points. Or, at least, as many as I'd like. Going through 3 different annoying sections of a level with no check points and having to start COMPLETELY over at a game over is... Well.

Sigh.
I have Bell's Palsy. What that means is my face is partially paralyzed. The right side of my mouth is very weak, and, more seriously, I can't close my right eye. I have to constantly apply eyedrops and tape my eye shut with surgical tape at night.
Fortunately, this will all be over eventually. Unfortunately, it can take for up to 7 months for the nerve to repair itself.
Yeesh, Void, how'd that happen? That sounds really unpleasant... I hope you get better fast.
That's the problem. The medical world has yet to find out for sure what causes it, though the leading theory is that either it is caused by the immune system's reaction to a viral infection or by the infection itself. I was home sick a few days ago with an inflamed lymph node, so that might be related to my Bell's Palsy.
Yeah, apparently, today was way colder than normal for the Bay Area. Plus, it's supposed to get colder. I guess it's time for sweaters and whatnot. Oh, and yeah, like Mortal Wombat said, it will only get worse because of global warming, which is really screwing the country over.
