What I narrowly missed making with the last thread, was an official benefit of being a high mage. I think that High Mages should have the right to create new threads when old ones finish.
rawr!
Does anyone have any idea what wuffles is talking about? I always got the impression that it was the leader (or coleader) that would create the new thread so that he would be able to edit the roster and friend list.

1st of all, congrats! :)
2nd of all, what's "elder scrolls oblivion"..."rox"?
3rd of all, am I the only one without really good news?
Oh, wait, it's really just you speedy. You're also the one who got his old gf back as well (and you're now our awesome clan rep). Aren't you just a lucky one. Seriously, though, how does one go about getting a new x-box, eh?
So, the time has come (belatedly) for our fourth Clan Contest of the year. The subject this time: a story.
Each Clan will collaborate on a story about the creation of their Clan or some mascot or avatar of that Clan, with the intention being to entertain as well as self-promote. The story can be anywhere between 250 and 2000 words in length, and must be formatted correctly as far as code, spelling and grammar go. Your story can feature members of other Clans, as well, because the setting is a universal "MTGS."
The deadline for this contest is 12:01AM, Eastern Standard Time, on Sunday, September 17, 2006. This is a bit longer than we usually take for contests, but as this could be more time-consuming and nuanced than a typical contest, more time has been allotted. The voting period will last from as soon as the voting thread goes up (should be sometime on that Sunday) until 12:01AM, Eastern Standard time, on Wednesday, September 27, 2006.
Now, a few ground rules:
1. All contest submissions must be posted in this thread, and only by your clan's official rep. If there is some problem that prevents you from doing this (incredible, I know), please PM me and we'll work something out.
2. When posting your contest submission, please post it in the standard message board font(Verdana, size 2). Some of you have colourful text, or text of a different font, but that's not necessary for this contest, and would rather be a distraction.
3. Text only; no pictures.
Now, a word about judges.
I've been told that judges are going to be selected, though nobody has seen fit to inform me as to exactly who they are, or even should be. I'm going to take this statement on faith, as it were, and see what happens. There's a possibility that no judges will show up, so I'm going to produce guidelines for voting if there are judges, and if there are not. I urge the more proactive Clans personalities to hash this out in the Council, if they'd be so kind.
For the average Clan and Clan Rep, voting remains the same as always, whether there are judges or not:
Quote:
After all the deadline for submissions, the submission thread will be closed and a voting thread will be opened. ONLY CLAN REPRESENTATIVES ARE ALLOWED TO POST ON THAT THREAD. We will not warn anyone for posting on a voting thread (unless something gets outof hand), but all posts from members who are not clan representatives will be deleted.
In this thread, each clans' representative should post their clan's first and second place vote for the contest being voted on, knowing that their first voted clan gets 2 points in the contest and their second voted clan gets 1 point. Clans cannot vote for themselves. In the end, clans will be awarded "Clan of the Year Race" points as described earlier. Please note also that a clan who submits an entry to the clan contest, but does not vote in that contest, is not eligible for points.
Whenever you, as a clan representative, give your clan's votes, beware not to make mistakes, because you cannot change your voting post. If for any incident, you do make a mistake, inform one of the clan mods and he will change the vote for you, but IT'S NOT ALLOWED FOR A USER TO CHANGE THEIR CLAN'S VOTING POST.
However, if there are judges, the content will go them for adjudication first. That is, the judges cast their votes before the users vote. The judges will vote on the submitted pieces in the same way as the general users do, although they will be awarding points on a scale of five, rather than two. That is, each judge will choose a top five, assigning five points to first place, four to second, and so on. The five best stories, after this adjudication, will go on to be voted on by the general user base as usual. For this reason, of course, the more judges the better, so I'm hoping for at least five of them, to match up with the number provided here. It should not be too difficult, hopefully, to pull some people together.
This is the first time we're doing judging (if it even happens), and there's bound to be some hiccups, so please just remember to be helpful rather than critical if it comes to that. Also, in the event that not enough judges can be gotten together in time, voting will simply proceed in the typical way.
So, that's it! Good luck to all involved, and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, take them to the Clan Council.
I offer my services as an editor and possibly a writer. I'm sure I can come up with some interesting very izzet idea. I have had some practice working on the experiments you can find in my sig and extendo.
I LOOVVE the color red--it's wreckless, carefree, and doesn't give a damn what happens:D . When you couple that with blue:o --knowledge is power--you get an incredibly insane and damnproud to be fun guild;) .
I would like to join the Izzet Clan.

Nice to meet you niv! Rocker05 has the final prerogative to admit you to the guild (he's the one who has to update the first page to include your name after all.) But let me greet you on behalf of the Izzet. How long have you been playing Magic?
Wow. That's pretty cool, speedy. I need more sisters.
Does anyone have any opinions/ideas for the clan contest? I saw that the fourth one is up now, and may have been for a while. I posted a spoiler of the contest rules on the last page here.
I got a free regular XBOX about a year ago when my sister got engaged and her fiance moved in with us, bringing his. 360 is much nicer however.
Welcome nivmizzet! I'm gonna go ahead and make you the apprentice of Elemental Synthesis. If you'd rather apprentice under somebody else, just say the word.

I have been playing since just before Onslaught was printed, so...about four years...yeah that sounds right...My favourite set is Scourge because of I simply could not live in a world without Dragons...that was unrelated, but I don't care...:D

Sounds fine, I don't know what difference it makes whatever kind of apprentice I am, as long as I am in the Izzet...
Official greetings, Apprentice of Elemental Synthesis!
Yeah, Scourge was my favorite set in the Onslaught block. I think they really pulled up outof a nosedive with that one. I mean, Onslaught block was okay, but Scourge really had some interesting flavor and mechanics. The high-casting cost idea was the perfect mechanic, and the landcyclers?
Well, get outta here. Noble Templar, Twisted Abomination are some of the best and most powerful common cards ever printed.
Of course the green ones both suck. Just play the card that inspired the landcycling cycle instead: Krosan Tusker.
Uhh...What do I say to reply to that last post (wamyc) without being offtopic myself...
...Oh well, for being the set after The Set That Shall Not Be Named, Scourge turned out to be magnificent!:D

The theme was stuff being BIG, I liked this because at the time it (large mana costs on things that didn't need or even want them...) presented a bit of a challenge...to get them into play or what-have-you. Aside from that, There really isn't any reason for my liking of Scourge if I actually think about it, all that I can come up with is that it was the first set I played that didn't suck *cough-Legions*, and to raise the stakes--DRAGONS!:o

Man! Avarax is an awesome card. I loved beating down with the old four fists of spikes.
Nice banner, rocker. It's one of those double take banners that disorients you 'cause it's not too far from where that might be on an actual page. I noticed recently that there were 1,337 active threads in one of the sections on this site...I don't remember which exactly But it was cool.
Rorix has to be my favorite of the onslaught legends cycle. Screw Visara. Sure, she was way more powerful, but Rorix was just a much more honest way to win.
Hey! I think we need to choose a mascot. I know we have The great Dragon, but why limit ourselves? Let's choose another. Someone not as lofty and perfect. Someone who won't fry us where we stand for not getting the inferential calculus slightly off.
:flame::gonk:
Ouch. (I meant to use the :*flame : smilie, but it has dissapeared.)
Well, I was not very specific about the high mage thing.
It was just something I had been pondering for a while. I was actually about to suggest it to C-man, but then he went AWOL and the rest of the clan did, too.
Basically, it was going to be the benefit gained from being a high mage. There probably should be one, after all
I agree that High Mages should receive a benefit, although I'm not sure that posting the new clan tread would really be a "Benefit." It's a job, no matter how much one enjoys it.
I'm willing to hear any suggestions for High Mage Benefits. We could certainly use some.

Can I come out of the portal (join again?)? I'm back in school, so I can post about once per day, again. Instead of not posting once per day, obviously. Or per month. Whatever.
Do you need a reason I'd like to join?
Because I tried to go red/white for a while, but I got bored, so I played blue/red. Then I tried playing blue/white for a while, but I got bored, so I plated blue/red. Repeat with all other colour combo-thingies.
And throwing one dark depths in your Izzetron really messes up the metagame at your local cardshop place thing, wherever you play mtg.
Ha! 20/20 flyer indestructible you die token on the field!
I have way too much energy to be sitting down all day. Must be the doughnuts (?) for breakfast.
Woahrghh! Where did all of the members go! We (you?) used to have a whole army here!
And I'd like to serve under... the High Mage (or Acolyte, whatever) of Unpredictability. After all, I do put the and in random.
Where did I hear that? Was it on this site? I sure didn't make it up myself. Oh well...
But coldsnap does not suck. What did you expect it to be? It's a small set that stands alone outside of a very powerful standard. I hope you think Coldnap sucks because you liked the idea and wanted it to be better.
I guess it would be nice if they pushed the set a little more. Just a little
As for high mage priveleges, why not give High mages a vote on Izzet Matters. Like the election of new High mages, or more influence on what we do for clan contests, ect. Maybe that's too broad of a benefit and we want to keep it narrower so as not to make non-high mages feel left out.
I suppose we could divvy up clan duties among the high mages. It's not really a benefit, per se, but it does give us more say in how the clan looks and feels. For instance, Rocker's duty would be organizing the front page and starting new posts. The clan leader (also rocker right now) would be the tiebreaker in tough decisions. Speedy acts as clan rep and I wouldn't mind organizing the creative activities of the clan. We could even have someone to organize clan contests. I think giving a duty to each High mage (not something backbreaking) is a pretty good honor.
Yeah, I liked the flavor and art of coldsnap, but it didn't fit how they made it part of standard. I think they should've just added it into the not-standard stuff. It turned out like another core set, but without useable cards (in this standard environment).
@WufflesII: I keep on trying to play Izzet Machinegun, but I'm not sure if it's the deck or just my playing abilities that's making me lose. Just FYI.
Why isn't there a Spell Manipulation "area of expertise" anymore? I liked that title...
Is it (Izzet?) just the lack of members?
Edit: Hey! Wuffles isn't here anymore! I did NOT see that coming!
The number of fields is equal to the number of high mages. I put A LOT of people in the erratic portal between The previous thread and this one because they simply hadn't posted. We're down to 4 high mages because I wanted the nmber of high mages to be less than half the number of members, making it more special.
Stay active, Tiki_Man, and you can become the High Mage of Spell Manipulation.
High Mage idea! When all of the apprentice slot are filled, I think there should be a vote on the acolyte and apprentice who get promoted. If my explanation on the front page confused you, just make a comment.
