Have any of you ever played the Elder Scrolls Games? Some of my friends like them, but I want to know how they compare to other rpgs. I figure you're the people to ask, for some reason .

TES is one of my favorite video game RPG series. Pick up a Game of the Year edition copy of Morrowind if you're strapped for cash and/or don't have a 360/tricked out gaming PC, pick up a copy of Oblivion if you do.
Happy Birthday to our level 4 Druid, Danica, who may or may not actually read this in a timely fashion.
Omna15 gets a level up! Omna15 gets a +1 longbow! Omna15 learns Rflect- wait, wrong game...
Meanwhile, I spent a good two hours working on two major NPCs in Rise (Marcy Wilder and Aleister Crowley), and statting them up took a lot of energy out of me. Now, I am trying to resolve issues with some rules questions the mods I've delegated to certain parties are bringing to me... ugh, a GM's work is never done.
I have Morrowind and I've played Oblivion. Both are excellent games.
However, if you don't know where you are going in Morrowind, you will be wandering aimlessly as the game just sort of drops you off without much of an idea of where to go.

oh i see well that makes the rpg more challenging then so basically you have to figure out where to go or go look on the walkthrough if you can't figure where to go after trying to figure out for several hours which i have done before in myst it isnt a rpg of course though.
I have a new topic what is the most challenging rpg you have ever played and if there is more then one go ahead and list the rpgs of course you do not have to answer if you choose not to :). Mine most challenging rpg i ever played is probably either enchanted arms or the 7th saga for super nes.
Exactly. You get dropped off by a boat, told where to go to get your first quest of the main storyline, and then boom, you're on your own.
I estimate that there are about four or five small sidequests to pick up in the town you start in alone. There are dozens of quests to go on in the game, ranging from the main storyline quests to fetching flowers and other items for people in the Mages Guild.
One note to anyone who has any intention of playing Morrowind for any real length of time;
If someone asks you to escort them somewhere, don't. They never pay well and the A.I. is brain dead. I can't count how many times I got ticked off because the NPC that I was escorting got stuck behind a tree. Unless it's part of the main quest, don't bother. If what they have to give you is tempting enough, it's better just to kill them than bother with the mission, seriously.
Another Morrowind tip: A certain Scamp in Caldera is easily persuaded, if you know what I mean. A merchant by the name of Creeper buys and sells 1% in your favor. If you've got some items with a high value, such as Ebony equipment, head down to Caldera and you can make some quick cash.
Of course, if you happen to have a lot of patience, you could find the talking mudcrab merchant.
Oddly enough, the most challenging RPG I've ever played is Morrowind. The difficulty lies in figuring out what to do and where to go. It also doesn't help when you run into your 350th Cliff Racer for the day.

That is, if you don't up and kill the merchant mudcrab (pity if you do- he's got 10000 gold and will buy and sell whatever you've got) thinking he's a regular mudcrab.

The only complaint that I have is that without Creeper or Mudcrab, you lose out on either a lot of time or a lot of cash. The problem with Creeper and Mudcrab is you make almost zero profit.

Oblivion is severely ugly, even if you've got a good machine; the environments look okay, but the characters are revolting. The least horrifying characters in the game are lizard people. The trick to oblivion is sticking down one of your keys with a hairpin while you go eat lunch in order to train your skills. The best part of oblivion is quests that involve killing NPCs, because that's one less ugly person to look at.

What PC from hell are you using? The characters on 360 or a decent PC don't look so bad; they won't win any beauty contests, but they aren't gouge-your-eyes-out ugly. They environments on 360 are beautiful- White Gold Tower is inspiring in 1080i.
The problem with Oblivion is that it's face generating engine results in fugly people who have weird shaped heads. That's part of the problem. Of course, real life is not like final fantasy where everyone is gorgeous. Congrats to Bethesda for putting ugly people in games. There are ugly people in real life, why not video games? Although that doesn't excuse the unrealistically ugly people that populate Oblivion.

I'm just tired of great looking video game characters being everywhere. It makes sense in some situations, but not in all. I don't understand exactly why all of the generic NPCs you meet are great looking people.
okay, so your player character is good looking. That's acceptable. After all, player characters usually represent extraordinary people, right?
But what about the ordinary? The lady who sells you potions? hot. The guy who sells you armor? Washboard abs. That random dude who says the exact same thing repeatedly? Male model.

I think there's a difference between bad character design and ugly people. If someone is not a good looking person, they aren't. In most games, RPGs, anything, there are five types of NPCs...
1. Professional models who do something on the side.
2. Old people
3. Children
4. Odd looking people like anthromorphic animals and characters who just look weird.
5. Evil looking monsters that are supposed to look ugly.
Basically, if it's human (or mostly human), it's hot.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
To a degree, when I play a fantasy game, I'm looking for fantasy. I'm looking for a good looking game, or at least not to be disgusted when I look at the characters. I understand that if a game is following realism, they shouldn't all look princely. But they shouldn't look f***'d up either.
It's probably one of the last things that crosses my mind in a game.
I look for something that has a great story, music, gameplay.

Well, part of that is because A) sex sells, and B) video games target demographic are the most influenced by sexuality-based marketing. But I do agree, it's frustrating. But from what I have heard about Oblivion, the facial rendering is preternaturally hideous, to the point that its equally unrealistic. I don't know for sure, though, as I haven't played it myself.
