Haloscope, you're on to me! But what you don't realize is that my sole criteria for clan ranking is beauty. Maybe it'd be more cost-effective for you to pursue rhinoplasty than to hire a hitman (or Royal Assassin).
Since the limited pauper season is Mirrodin, do you think we should do a top 15 mirrodin block commons?
Here are mine.
1.Cranial Plating-no explanation needed
2. Disciple of the Vault-simply amazing
3. Bonesplitter-the second best equipment in Mirrodin block pauper, or maybe just pauper in general.
4. Vulshok Morning Star- while a bit slower than bonesplitter very effective.
5. Thoughtcast - in block, the best draw spell in block
6. Echoing Truth -a fantastic bounce spell
7. Lose Hope -creature removal and draw power for one black, amazing
8. Electrostatic bolt -handy against a certain 4/4 with affintity
9. Myr Enforcer -the best beat in mirrodin block
10. Frogmite - a fantastic early game creature
11. Arcbound worker - a true worker sacrificing his life so your myr enforcer can kill another Myr Enforcer
12. Predator's Strike - the best green pump spell in mirrodin block
13. Spire Golem - simply amazing in mono blue
14. The artifact lands -with and affinity spell its like tapping one land for two mana with no draw backs, probably the most broken lands ever. (okay overexaggerating is fun every now and then)
15. Welding Jar/ The Spellbombs - they come in for a tie, welding jar is so useful and the Spellbombs can replace themselves or provide an effect, they are very useful.
Mirrodin limited is more difficult than I thought it would be. I really forgot what the format revolved around, and now I am kicking myself. I lost my first match to ActionMan3k 0-2 (after beating him in a quick practice game). Bleh.
I am planning to play in both TPDC and SPDC this week, so anyone looking for a few games on MTGO, I'll be up for deck testing.
I also hope to be able to finish my blog entry on the PoP weblog before the beginning of the new Standard season on Thursday. I'll post here when I finish it up, so you can have a chance to check it out and leave some feedback.
The Princes of Pauper website is coming along nicely. You'll notice the fruits of an ongoing beautification project there. Much remains to be done, but at least we don't have that "old school" 1996 look.
If anyone is interested in producing articles (or blog entries) for the site, just let me know here, or PM me. More content = good.
I'm pleased that so many of us have signed up for the MD5 Limited event for PDC. It's great for us to have a format like this that accomodates our differing schedules. So far, we have Polyjak, Haloscope, eegag, ActionMan, redleg, Grozathia, and agentanaranjado signed up for the event. Interpol is still at naval training and ruinedlaw claims he'll be too busy in the coming weeks to participate.
What follows is my current cardpool and deck selection for Week 1 of PDC Limited III:
I'd started with UB but then saw a bunch of good W cards that I wanted to try, so I switched to WB. After ruinedlaw, seasoned Mirrodin block veteran, saw my cardpool, he vascillated a bit on which colors were best for me before deciding GU. I think all this just goes to show that no single color I received in my pool is overwhelmingly stronger than the others. I will be excited to receive another pack for Week 2. Hopefully that will push me more solidly in one direction or another.
I am not going to be able to play TPDC this week, but I do intend to play for the 1st event of Season 1 of Thursday's Standard PDC (or SPDC), as I enjoyed it last time and I am quite eager to take Orzhov down a peg. I have a deck idea in my mind, which I shall post in the next couple days for advice.
as soon as things settle down with my schedule for work and i have a better idea of how i need to plan my day, i will probably be able to do something, i am switching from going in at 06:30 in the am to 11:30 am, quite a change, plus i am working tons of OT....not real fun right now. the good news is that I may actually be able to play in the TPDC tourneys in the next few weeks.
Secondly, we should have a new member very soon to add to the pauper gang. So if you have some time this coming weekend he will be here so we can get him started online.
Thirdly, for anyone that is playing, Actionman 3k, randomly chose a list for me to make a deck for people to practice against, so while I am not participating, if anyone needs to play a few games to tinker with their decks, let me know and i will be more than happy to play.
and completely off topic, Stormbind is being reprinted, I am uber pumped about running a deck with stormbind and Life of the loam.
Back on topic, to spur some posting,
How about we have a little contest, were everyone designs a few cards for a custom set and we try and create a pauper custom set. I know this is kind of off a previous post by Polyjak, but I think it would be a lot of fun.
Wow, the rumors are really starting to roll in, and in less than a week we'll know the whole set. Prepare your farewells to Kamigawa everyone!
First of all, the Purple "timeshifted" cards are type two legal! Wow, this is going to make for an interesting season in the SPDC, depending on how many commons are in that 121 card subset.
That does mean, however, that Looter en-Kor and Fiery Temper will be Standard legal, and that seems like the basis of a good Izzet deck.
The two Amrou rebels we have so far look good, too. Amrou Scout can search for the Seekers, and if we get another common rebel among the timeshifted cards, there might be a good rebel deck on the horizon.
Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to elaborate on my post, but the set is looking fun. "Pitch" commons (Snapback)? And that two-drop artifact creature that reduces suspend costs ... could be interesting in a U/B deck with Mindstab and Errant Ephemeron.

Well, it looks like the PDC community has spoken. Purple common reprints will not be legal in PDC events. I understand their reasoning (in some cases more than others), but it still bums me out that I don't get to use Fiery Temper in Standard.
On the other hand, spoiled commons!! A few gems in there, aren't there? Haloscope should like the new common thallid ... in fact, I think his favorite color combination (:symbg:) is coming out of this set nicely. Here is a theoretical decklist:
That looks like a fun Harvester update that can turn controlling or aggressive on a whim ... very versatile.
Out of the new batch, I also like Think Twice. It's a bit of nice instant-speed card advantage (after flashback) for MUC or a U/G Mandess/Threshold deck in Classic. Ophidian Eye and the "Flashback Flicker" also look abusable. Good stuff, and here is to hoping it gets better.
I do think its a bit of a bummer that the purple cards are considered rares....its ridiculous, but I can not beleive some of the reprints, i mean the rack, honestly does anyone else here realize how incredibly broken that card is, there is a darn good reason it was restricted back in the day and the same reason it was not reprinted for many years.
I think this set may be a bit overpowered, and when you combine that with ravnica, which is a fairly high powered set you will get lots of decks that are broken, unless somehow all the brokenness balances everything out.
I am glad to be playing pauper as I think standard will be insane.
A lot of good commons spoiled today (although a few previously spoiled commons are really uncommons, like Yavimaya Dryad). Specifically, I would like to see what you each think of the following two:
Gaze of Justice W
Sorcery
As an additionnal cost to play Gaze of Justice, tap three untapped white creatures you control.
Remove target creature from the game.
Flashback 5W
A common sorcery-speed Swords to Plowshares that needs untapped creatures, but also has Flashback, and ...
Rift Bolt 2R
Sorcery
Deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
Suspend 1 - R
Greg, glad to see the commons of BOROS have piqued your interest. I am very optimistic that my favorite color combo will have some new legs to stand on come October 30. WW/r, at the very least, seems possible given the high volume of quality white commons spoiled so far.
In an indiscriminate burn deck, or a Rakdos deck, Rift Bolt seems quite efficient. It may not always be the best choice, but I predict that it quite often will.
Speaking of red and white, I wanted to present my skeleton for a post-Kami Standard RWU Skies deck.
What do you think? Obviously the sideboard needs to change. Stuff can go in. You counter, tap, or burn the stuff in the sky to keep your beat-stream flowing, and then occasionally reduce the ground-pounding force to ashes. Remaining burn aims at enemy head.
Jak, I like it, I wonder about the mana, but I think 4 terramorphic expanses should even out your mana wonderfully. Skred is nice, I dont know if I am sold on squall drifter.
I would replace the plumes of peace with pacifism, i just think its better most of the time, you can always run plumes in he sb if you need them, but it would reduce the amount of multicolored mana you need.

Drifter il-Dal may be a card to consider. A 2/1 for U is pretty good. It forces your opponent to deal with him or be beaten by evasion. Also, blessed breath and kabuto moth are both kami block
I just wanted to point out some of the cards that grabbed me most upon initial inspection. This is by no means an exhaustive list of what I deem playable. It's just some cards that I'm stoked to try out.
Benalish Cavalry
A 2/2 flanker for 1W. I forsee him in RW and GW aggro decks I build.
Cloudchaser Kestrel
Seems custom-tailored to help defeat aura-heavy Orzhov decks, and has a nice built-in feature to make those pesky Shambling Shells mono-colored for the benefit of GotG.
Icatian Crier
Though it's a bit costlier than aggro decks want, this spellshaper turns late-game land topdecks into pitchfork-wielding Citizen tokens by the pair.
Pentarch Ward
It's too early to tell whether this is a poor replacement for Blessed Breath or whether it ushers in a new era of white resilience. I like the self-replacement, and I like the potential interactions with Guardian's Magemark (which has flash).
Rift Bolt
Eegag brought this card up earlier, and ever since then it's been growing on me. I'm still scared about the Zoo colors losing their hand fast and having no way to replenish it, but this is a more efficient, if less controllable, Seal of Fire. This is the Glacial Ray of the set, I'm sure.
Mogg War Marshal
If you've ever wanted two 1/1 red Goblin tokens for 1R, here's your chance. If you want to pay 2RR over two turns, you get three goblins out of it. If you play with some blue and bounce him back to your hand, who knows how many tokens you can get out of him.
Blazing Blade Askari
When the set first started getting spoiled, this guy excited me as a thorn in Orzhov's side. Of course, Orzhov gets new tricks too, but Flanking > Blind Hunter and colorless > GotG.
Durkwood Baloth
This is probably green's best 1-drop in Standard. Tools do exist to mess with suspend counters but I highly doubt those tools will see major play. On turn 6, bang, this guy comes online with haste and pounds. By then you've got his little buddies online and you can alpha strike with mana open for combat tricks. Plus, I like his name -- a throwback to my favorite card.
There are more but they'll have to wait for part two later...
Hello! I am good friends with Ruinedlaw (in real life) and he suggest that I should join up with you guys. Since he has me setup on MTGO now since I have a new PC. So I look forward to playing with you on MTGO.
Just an FYI on MacDeeMac (who ironicaly used a pc to type the previous message), his online name is runelaw82, I gave him an old mtgo account that I used to have.
We (or akmage) w'll get MacDeeMac hooked up with the DotCW on MTGO ASAP.
In an effort to design lots of cool post-rotation Standard decks, I've dusted off MWS and downloaded all the patches. I haven't even tested yet, and it's hard to design decks with MWS, but here's my starting point for a red/white aggro deck in the new Standard.
If we really do follow through with this post-Time Spiral Pauper Standard testing on MWS, it will give us a needed advantage when the set hits MTGO at the end of October. One thing we must not do when testing is forget about the existing Standard archetypes. We have:
Orzhov
Harvester
Ire of Kaminari*
U/B Ninjas*
Recover Ponza
Two of those decks (with the asterisks) will not be salvageable following the rotation, leaving three decks at the top. Other existing contenders that have made a splash in Standard include U/W Skies, R/G or R/W Snow Aggro, and G/U "Shielding Plax" Aggro.
In the post-Time Spiral meta, I believe we should focus on testing the following deck types:
U/W Control
G/B/w Rock
WW (Rebels)
U/B Shadow Madness
Slivers
If anyone can think of any other types, let me know. Additional testing should be done on those "tier two" decks, such as R/W Snow Aggro, to see which benefits the most from Time Spiral.
Here is my initial list for U/B Shadow Madness. It has performed rather average so far:

4 Search for Tomorrow
4 Last Gasp
4 Scatter the Seeds
2 Grim Harvest
That looks like a fun Harvester update that can turn controlling or aggressive on a whim ... very versatile.
Out of the new batch, I also like Think Twice. It's a bit of nice instant-speed card advantage (after flashback) for MUC or a U/G Mandess/Threshold deck in Classic. Ophidian Eye and the "Flashback Flicker" also look abusable. Good stuff, and here is to hoping it gets better.
Prison Yard (Pauper Future Extended)
I think this set may be a bit overpowered, and when you combine that with ravnica, which is a fairly high powered set you will get lots of decks that are broken, unless somehow all the brokenness balances everything out.
I am glad to be playing pauper as I think standard will be insane.

A suspend version of Lightning Bolt.
Prison Yard (Pauper Future Extended)
In an indiscriminate burn deck, or a Rakdos deck, Rift Bolt seems quite efficient. It may not always be the best choice, but I predict that it quite often will.
Speaking of red and white, I wanted to present my skeleton for a post-Kami Standard RWU Skies deck.
7 Snow-Covered Mountain
6 Snow-Covered Plains
6 Snow-Covered Island
1 Azorius Chancery
1 Boros Garrison
1 Izzet Boilerworks
//22 creatures//
2 Squall Drifter
4 Martyr of Ashes
4 Azorius First-Wing
4 Wee Dragonauts
4 Skyknight Legionnaire
4 Guardian of the Guildpact
4 Shock
4 Skred
4 Remove Soul
2 Cackling Flames
2 Plumes of Peace
4 Blessed Breath
4 Gelid Shackles
4 Faith's Fetters
2 Cackling Flames
1 Kabuto Moth
What do you think? Obviously the sideboard needs to change. Stuff can go in. You counter, tap, or burn the stuff in the sky to keep your beat-stream flowing, and then occasionally reduce the ground-pounding force to ashes. Remaining burn aims at enemy head.

+1
Benalish Cavalry
A 2/2 flanker for 1W. I forsee him in RW and GW aggro decks I build.
Cloudchaser Kestrel
Seems custom-tailored to help defeat aura-heavy Orzhov decks, and has a nice built-in feature to make those pesky Shambling Shells mono-colored for the benefit of GotG.
Gaze of Justice
This is the Pauper's Swords to Plowshares. It doesn't take a genius to see that.

In an effort to design lots of cool post-rotation Standard decks, I've dusted off MWS and downloaded all the patches. I haven't even tested yet, and it's hard to design decks with MWS, but here's my starting point for a red/white aggro deck in the new Standard.
10 Snow-Covered Mountain
10 Snow-Covered Plains
2 Boros Garrison
//26 creatures//
4 Ronom Unicorn
4 Benalish Cavalry
4 Mogg War Marshal
4 Blazing Blade Askari
4 Skyknight Legionnaire
2 Icatian Crier
4 Guardian of the Guildpact
4 Skred
4 Rift Bolt
4 Pentarch Ward
2 Boros Recruit
1 Cackling Flames
1 Seal of Fire
1 Orcish Cannonade
1 Viashino Fangtail
1 Stone Rain
1 Pacifism
1 Faith's Fetters
1 Sun's Bounty
1 Suntail Hawk
1 Gelid Shackles
1 Volcanic Hammer
1 Shock
1 Pegasus Charger
I welcome all opinions.
In other news, I made a thread for the Rakdos Ponza deck we've all been working on. Check it out.
EDIT: MWS TS Installation Guide
In the post-Time Spiral meta, I believe we should focus on testing the following deck types:
Here is my initial list for U/B Shadow Madness. It has performed rather average so far:
10 Swamp
4 Terramorphic Expanse
9 Island
// Creatures
4 Looter il-Kor
4 Dimir Infiltrator
3 Errant Ephemeron
4 Trespasser il-Vec
4 Drifter il-Dal
4 Feast of Flesh
4 Last Gasp
2 Repeal
4 Rune Snag
4 Dark Withering
