I think the trick will be to divvy it up in small parts so that working on each part won't take that long. The first amendment would need to probably be broken up into "freedom of religion", "freedom of press", and "freedom of speech and assembly". Freedom of religion is the most contested and the one whose ignorance seems most rampant to me, by both sides of say, prayer in schools. Freedom of press is poignant and often the least understood (hence, confused). Freedom of speech is fun to go into the what ifs for.
Other amendments will require less space to cover.

You're obviously an ignorant conservative. I blame your hill-billy Mom and Dad.
Denver, give me your opinion on this. Is the 10th amendment an unnecessary truism?
Yes, but I feel it was written to be that way.
The anti-Federalists, after all, were worried that if you didn't limit federal government power, it would become much much too powerful.
The Federalists worried that if a BoR was made, it would imply that those rights that are not included are not permissible.
In this way, the Tenth amendment (and the Ninth amendment) satisfies both sides: It clearly says that the Federal government cannot decide on matters it has no power over, and it clearly says that the Federal government is not all powerful and should not be that way, that even the unenumerated rights are still rights.
But, yes, to provide a succinct answer to your question: The Tenth amendment is a self-evident truth, by virtue of our Federal system.
Edit: TBW - I'll get around to doing something about it, I'm sure. Just . . . let me sleep. Oh Gods, I need sleep.

Quote from Carl Olson »
...it's like a document being written in the mid-20th century titled "The Autobiography of Benedict Arnold" that contradicts everything known about Arnold, George Washington, and the American Revolution — and people saying that it's authentic and reflects a viable tradition ("Yes, Arnold probably was the original source!"), that it "overturns previous beliefs about the years 1765-1790", and that it will "cast doubts on what Americans believe about the founding of their country."
In other news, I have just now returned from a performance of the entirety of the Beatles' Abbey Road (and some of their other songs, too) by the London Orchestra and the Jean and Classics Band. It was unspeakably good, and it has inspired me to go to further offerings from the LO. They will be joining up with the Fanshawe Choir on Good Friday to perform Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, so that's definitely on my schedule.

As far as the Judas gospel, yep it was in some bank vault in Hicksville. I'll tell you something, that town is like Sodom... trust me, I spent a few years there one week. Leave it to them to turn Judas into a hero.
In all honesty though, I don't think this presents much of a problem to Christian theologians even if it is verified. That's pretty much the way I always thought the story went down, if it did indeed go down...
This "sort of story," as it were, has had at least implicit support from early Fathers like Origen, even. It wouldn't surprise/bother/disillusion/confuse me at all if it were true.
But it's just another Gnostic forgery, so w/e. We can throw it on the pile with the Gospels of Thomas and Philip and etc.
And with a name like "Hicksville," it's got to be bad.

I'm thinking the same thing. In any event, it doesn't "feel" that much different to me anyway. Jesus did need to be betrayed in order to carry out the prophecy. Supposing Judas didn't think of it himself, Jesus would have to ask him when God revealed the plan to him.
The point, after all, is the fulfillment of the prophecy and all that follows from it not the way in which it was fulfilled. So it would be unfortunate if Judas got shafted like that, but hey.. he'd be in heaven anyway so what does he care?

I actually wrote a well-received short story ("Kristus och Judas") about this very concept, though Judas ended up in Hell. I may post it in installments, at some point (it's about sixteen pages, all told).
In general, do you think the gnostics have anything to contribute to Christian theology?
Not to be too smug, but I would say that their greatest contribution is that of a cautionary example. A hyperliteralist disdain for the material is never far away once you decide that orthodoxy really isn't the thing for you. The converse, of course, can also be true; many heretics love the material too much.

So my computer decided to be wicked cool and die. Shouldn't surprise me, really, as it is disgustingly old. I'm currently typing this at a friend's house, as I do not have the available resources to purchase a new one at the moment.
Nick: In lieu of internet access for the past few days, been taking your advice. The night sky is beautiful.
Also, since I mentioned my intro to philo threads, I've had this insane urge to write them again. I may just do that.
Also, wouldn't it be bad ass if each (or most) members of the Ivory Tower submitted a thread for the Constitution primer. Then we could title every thread, "The Ivory Tower presents:..." Or maybe not.

Ok then, if you and TBW and I and anyone else (ljoss, Prizm) wants to make a Constitution primer, I think it'd be bad-ass to title it "Ivory Tower presents."

Nope, not yet but that does sound cool. I tend to wonder what would have happened had Lee et. al won Gettysburg. Ever consider the possibility that they would abandon their original purpose and begin conquering the northern states to unite them under the stars and bars? A fate worse than a Union victory, for sure...
So anyway, happy palm sunday to you all. I believe we're in cycle B so I hope you have your Passion according to Mark prepared and if anyone is going to the living stations of the cross tonight let me know how that whole thing turns out.

Still no computer. Typing this from the school library. Technically it's closed, but the librarians want my ass, so they make exceptions for me. They find it refreshing to have a student who checks out non-Stephen King/Harry Potter books once in a while. They think it's because I'm above such things; I don't have the heart to tell them that it's because I own all of them

Today was the last day of classes. My Narrative Theory prof pulled a greased weasel and didn't hand back our course work after all. Instead, we have to go to have individual appointments with him, discuss our strengths and weaknesses, etc., wherein he will give them back. As luck would have it, by the time I had walked to his fifth-floor office in the Huron college building, which is not on the main campus at all, the only slots left are on next Tuesday rather than, say, tomorrow.
As I'm waiting to see whether my term paper for this course was good enough to submit to a large scholarship contest with a rapidly-approaching deadline, I am somewhat vexed by this turn of events. Oh well.
Also, it figures that mini-skirt weather would arrive on the very day classes end for the year. :/

So, I just wasted about 2 hours watching some documentary entitled "Dark Secrets: Inside the Bohemian Grove" and I am currently suffering from an overdose of exposure to psychotic individuals.
It wasn't all a loss though. I've come up with an answer for the burning question of our time: who is more mentally disturbed - Alex Jones, major C.E.O.s or our politicians?
I go in a few minutes to see the speech given by the Canadian Justice Minister and Attorney General. Should be interesting.
Also:
For anyone interested in 18th C. poetry (Denver?), I would like to recommend the work of Christopher Smart, a man who wrote beautiful poetry, went mad, got better, and continued writing beautiful poetry. The stuff he wrote in the asylum is quite compelling, with the epic Jubilate Agno at the forefront. It's... it's hard to describe, but it contains stuff like this:
"Let Joseph, who from the abundance of his blessing may spare to him that lacketh, praise with the Crocodile, which is pleasant in pure, when he is interpreted, tho' his look is of terror and offence."
