So, Ith is the next preview card. Meh. Maze of Ith was awesome because it was a land. This card is blue for nearly no reason except flavor, which is more or less okay, and it is EXPENSIVE and SLOW.
But still, control will like it, methinks. TS seems to be slow enough of a format to let it work.
..
Ith seems like he is a colorless mana too expensive. Meh.
First person to tell me what the anime of the week is gets a cookie. I'll post it up tomorrow since I'm too tired tonight. I'm actually listening to music from it right now.
The funny thing about previewing Ith is, they de-restricted Maze of Ith because the ability just isn't as powerful as it used to be. So, why exactly are people going to be excited about a weaker version of Maze of Ith? Just seems like an odd move.
It's funny, if ever a set was designed for Vorthos this seems to be it. I'm rather strongly Vorthosian and I just am not getting all that excited about the set. I like it well enough and I'll probably buy, but I dunno. Maybe I should look at the spoilers instead of just the official previews. Maybe there'll be exciting, juicy stuff in there.

Personally, I'm more interested in 'time' as a theme than 'nostaliga'. You see a legend card of Disa the Restless or Snow-Fur or some random other flavor text legend, and there's one moment of 'Ooooh! Aaaah!'. (For all I know, Disa and S-F could be major important dudes; I'm not up on the story all that much.) TS will be in standard for 2 years, and in other formats for much longer. The 'cool' of having a card for Ezoc, Gogari Rot Farmer or someone is less important over the long haul than whether or not her card is actually fun to play with. The good news is that this does seem to be the case, for the most part - the set is not shaping up to be a random pile of otherwise unconnected nostalgia. They seem to be continuing the progressing trend of making legends that actually feel legendary, which I like, though Ith himself isn't an amazing example of this.
Is anyone else havingn nightmares about what their prerelease will be like? Besides having an enormous pile of mechanics, TS also forces players to focus on things that weren't focused on before - specifically, Split Second makes it so that the rules about who has priority when, which are normally heavily glossed over, suddenly become much more relevent, and suspend also has a bunch of baggage that doesn't fit in the reminder text. Now, Odessey (beating out Dissension for the "set I can't spell" award), for instance, made players focus on the graveyard much more than in the past, but I believe this to be different, mostly because the potential for arguments is higher.
Incidentally, Ith reminds me that as time passes, I really grow more and more to appreciate the value of vigilence. It may be that I play much more limited than I did years ago. It may be that vigilence is appearing on more cards and on higher quality cards. (Although Serra Angel isn't some sort of slouch.) It may be that I've been paying more attention to it since they've keyworded it. It the period right after they keyworded it, I sort of saw it as one of the weaker keywords out there. However, when put on a creature that you want to swing with every turn (usually something evasive or bigger than all of there things - hello, Adarkar Valkyrie), it's really an incredible boost. If the creature has a tap ability (see Adarkar Valkyrie), all the better.
Lastly, is anyone else a little put off when important characters from Magic history have set mechanics on their cards? It makes them feel a little less timeless. I mean, obviously a Lyna card should have Shadow, but making several significant Magic figures have the spellshaper mechanic - and the creature type Spellshaper - felt weird in MM. Note that for the most part, they've done an excellent job of this. Akroma, for instance, lacks Provoke, so she doesn't feel bound to her set.
While I enjoy the nostalgia effect, I think TS will be a set of 'all hail Magic's past', with the cards that don't have the old keywords or mechanics or legends focusing on the aspect of the time warping.
I AM going to the prerelease, but I am worried about it being overcrowded. I intend to enter 4 flights for the prerelease cards and the reprints, but still. It's gonna be insane.
As for a legend confined to its set, that is happening far less and less, to make legends more timeless and 'reprintable' if they ever do something like this again.

It's all about the Suspend with this card. If it wasn't for the fact that you can pay two mana for him turns before he comes into play (essentially saving you mana for giving up playing less in your early turns) he'd be another one of those useless legends that always get printed.
OWN saw play in some sideboards as defense against Owl decks and a few other things long before Dis hit. Even though it's what everyone immediately thought of as soon as the Rakdos mechanic was revealed, as a Hellbent enabler, it's outclassed by quite a few other cards and hasn't made any impact in that area.
I said it in [Natural 20] and I'll say it here, Mr. Stuff. Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch =P
As for Akroma...this makes me sad. I think I'm the only person in the world who hates Akroma, and I don't want to see her handed out to anyone anymore. Least of all Photon. Him having Akroma would be like me having Necropotence.
As for the preview cards, I've only been impressed with Jaya Ballard so far. Hopefully I see some black POWAH soon.
If you don't like giant shadow man as black powah, you're probably not going to find much in the previews. They tend to not preview unexciting but highly functional removal spells or other utility, or anything with relatively subtle power. I mean, what are you going to say about Last Gasp? "This card is good. It is as good as you think it is. It kills things and they don't regenerate."
Since the R&D members visit this thread more than our own clan thread lately, I figure I best post this question here. I need a color pie opinion.
Does the bidding mechanic (Illicit Auction, Mages' Contest) make sense as potentially monoblack or does it strike you as purely a red ability? I'm waffling on whether a card that incorporates it should be Red/Black or if it can get away with being hybrid.

Ugh. I'm just going to type, and I hope that I don't seem rude for not contributing to the current topic...I'll keep it short, too, because there isn't much to say.
So me and Zoe broke up. Ouch. 3 months. And I loved her.
Jeez, I'm becoming an emo. So, you guys and my other friends get me back for however long it takes me to get over her and back into dating. And that could be a while. So every cloud does have a silver lining.
A rather sad 'Fox.
{{{{{{{Shadowfox}}}}}}} Sorry to hear it, man.
Give yourself some time. If for nothing else, time to learn from the experience, figure out what you want in a girl, and what girls want in their guys.
So me and Zoe broke up. Ouch. 3 months. And I loved her.
Ouch is right, man. Sorry to hear. Really, breakups are a *****. When Jess broke up with me .... bad ideas came to my head. But, hey. Life moves on and soon you'll get over her, I'm sure. For a while I was beginning to get over Jess until we got back together again.

Hey, I've been emo. It's only a state of mine, my friend.

First of all, I'm really sorry about that. Secondly, how are you being emo? Being emo is being whiny for no good reason (or to be cool,) and pretending you want to kill yourself. You, on the other hand, have both A) something real to be upset about, and B) aren't whining or writing bad poetry about 'candles of despair' or other nonsense, Goddamn, it's a sad world where people can't feel saddness without expressing it as a weakness.
Does the bidding mechanic (Illicit Auction, Mages' Contest) make sense as potentially monoblack or does it strike you as purely a red ability? I'm waffling on whether a card that incorporates it should be Red/Black or if it can get away with being hybrid.
I'd say so. In fact, I don't really know why it's always in red, though it has appeared in red again in Coldsnap in a slightly different form. (It doesn't seem nonred, but there's nothing about it that makes it seem particularly red.) Forcing people to make difficult decisions can be (and, IMO, should be), black, as on Choice of Damnations. I'd judge the card or mechanic that involves bidding also on it's effect; bidding life to draw cards or do something else that black does more than red makes sense in black. Lastly, I don't think that two cards (both of which, weirdly enough, involve red bidding life in order to get a blue effect) constitute a huge precidence. I mean, I'm severely pie-concious, and I wouldn't bat an eye at a black bidding card. (No, not that one.)

:o. That is all.
I thought being emo was the above but it included whiny and singing bad songs because your g/f or b/f left you. Either way, it makes no real difference to me.
If anyone else is game, I could go for some MWS right 'bout now. Drop me a PM or IM. Be gentle, its only my second time. I'd like to do some Academy, but otherwise is fine too.
anyways, I've been busy with school, but I thought I'd come and spam it up here. Haha, okay, I just missed hanging out with you guys.
Okay, first of all, ALL COLO PEOPLE!!! CHECK THE SANCTUARY! IT"S GONnA BE ORGASMIC!
As for Emos, I used to respect emos when it was all about angst and wrist slashing. I didnt agree with it, but they showed more 'rebellion' than the whiny new emos who buy clothes from malls and listen to emo music, but don't do anything emo. Come on people, It's like rednecks buying cologne!
Emo is the stupid goth. Well, and there's the hair, I guess...
Emo is more trying to act mysterious and depressed to look cool, hence, most people who say they're acting emo, really are just letting their emotions be known (a good thing.)
PurpleD: I don't really respect people who cut themselves to look cool, it's just really stupid.
Hey y'all. Long time no see. So... who's going to the TS prerelease and dressed as what character? (I spent the weekend working on my Teferi staff. Yes, I'm that pathetic.)
Edit: I just got your username Yamaneko. Mountain cat... lol.

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.

Unfortunately he has two half-staves now... But a very good idea. Does it work well without the white and blue robes tho?
