Thats a funny list Alacar...i have seen a few of those before, but it was nice seeing them again and some new ones gave me a chuckle. Aside from that, nothing new here...except i actually was exercising(gasp!)...me and a friend are having a bet who can lose the most weight by the end of the year...its on...lets see how long be exercising lasts...
Yeah, well... I think the funniest one I've seen was part of the list of humorous quotes on one of the threads in Humor.
"The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck is the day they start making vacuum cleaners".
Welcome Wurp. Don't think I've seen you before, so salutations as well. Enjoy your stay.
I'm just checking in... nothing too important happened today, except the guy that requested my first banner seemed really happy with it. I'll be back on later to post up Anime of the Week. This time it's one of my absolute favorites (and no, not Mermaid Melody ).
Yay AotW...i have nothing to do tomorrow, i wont be able to do anything tomorrow really, just have to pack up for school on wedesday.
Speaking of school..i went through my backpack from last year...wow, i put some of the most stupid **** in there, half chewed gum, candy rappers, papers i forgot to turn in (yes im a slacking unorganized dumbass) as well as a few other things i would rather not mention here.
While the milling from raven guild master and Circu aren't much, they give me stuff to use dimir doppleganger with.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work, since both Circu and RGM remove the cards from the game. I do second the thought, however, that you look into singleton Magic. You're almost there anyway, and it's a great format. I think it's much, much harder to put together a singleton deck than a normal deck, since instead of picking nine cards, you have to pick 36 or so.
Yeah, well... I think the funniest one I've seen was part of the list of humorous quotes on one of the threads in Humor.

I make banners! And card renders! Yay! And that quote is hilarious.
In the world of Read or Die, there exist people called "paper masters". They have the ability to literally control paper. What good is this ability, you ask? Well, it's not so much that they control paper, it's that they make paper do whatever the hell they want. Need to cut through that steel fence? Paper cuts through the hardest material. Need to lift something heavy? Create a familiar from paper and have it do the lifting for you. Need clothes? Paper takes on the color and shape you need. Need armor? Rope? A weapon? A plane (yes, a plane)? In the hands of a paper master, paper can do nearly anything. A good paper master can stop a bullet with an index card, and throw that same index card with more deadly force than the sharpest shuriken.
The TV series is a sequel of sorts to the R.O.D. movie, which has three parts or episodes. The movie focuses on the adventures of Yomiko Readman, the "original" paper master, and a greater lover of books than most people could ever dream of being. The bookstores know her by name and sight, and have pictures of her in their stores, next to words like "best customer" and "look out for this woman" (she has been known to buy out entire stores on a whim). She works as a special agent for the government, and the movie focuses on her and other members of her team putting a stop to a plan to destroy the world.
The story of the TV series begins when Nenene Sumeregawa, an author and friend of Yomiko, is attacked suddenly during a visit to Hong Kong to promote the release of a movie based on her novel. Anita King, Maggie Mui, and Michelle Cheung, known as the "Paper Sisters Detective Agency", are called in to act as her bodyguards. Their services (as paper masters) prove so valuable that Nenene assigns them to another task: find Yomiko Readman, who has gone missing.
Hey Alacar, nice work on the custom set article. Section three, in particular, I thought hit a lot of important points. Since I love talking about design and Alacar indirectly brought it up, here are a few things that I think are important before even attempting a set. Some of this is solid advice, some is more opinon.
Know the game. On several levels. It's embarassing how often someone who has as much knowledge of the cardpool as I do designs something that's strictly better than, strictly worse than, or identical to an existing card of a fine power level. If your knowledge of the cardpool is limited to some Ravnica and Kamigawa block commons and uncommons, you're going to have a very difficult time balancing cards properly. I'd say that well over half of the cards I make are inspired at least a little bit by existing cards, and virtually all of them are costed by comparing them to exixting cards. For this reason, it's important to know what's out there and roughly what power different things are. If you know about a lot of cards, there's a lot more inspiration out there.
Is it okay to make a card that makes Death Ward look terrible? If you don't know how good Death Ward is, that's a difficult question to answer. You don't have to be winning GPs to be a good designer, but if you really have very little experience with Magic, it's going to be hard to design a good set. If you're unable to evaluate Wizards' cards, how can you evaluate your own?
It's also important to know the color pie. What each color gets flavorfully and mechanically, and what decks that use a given color actually feel like to play. A frightening number of people see the color pie as arbitrary or unneccesarily restricting, but loosening the pie too much doesn't broaden the game, it severely flattens it. Understanding the rules of design helps you to build a set that will actually be fun to play with.
Plan ahead. You don't need to decide every little detail ahead of time, but piling together the first 306 cards you think of won't make for a good set. My personal style is to overdesign, making far more cards than the project calls for. Apogee is a normal-sized large set, but over 500 cards were designed for it, allowing my to pick and choose what I wanted. (A lot of the overflow wound up in Eclipse, which itself has a gread deal of overflow. Some of that will wind up in Nova, some will never find a home.) Other people prefer to designate certain slots for certain things. ("Slot 6 is for common white enchantment removal") Any style can work, but tossing together the first 300 things you come up with, even if there are some themes in there, will result in a less playable set. The more you plan ahead, the more headaches you'll save later trying to keep track of what you have.
Perhaps the most important thing in design is the ability to let bad ideas go. Everyone has bad ideas, but it's too easy to get attached to every idea you have. New designers in CCM are often very protective of their cards, resisting suggestions of change even if the cards are awful on every level. If you've only designed six cards and I criticize six of your cards, I've criticised everything you've ever done.
So I'm about to head to bed, I check MTGSalvation 1 more time before hitting the sack, and I find MY ARTICLE UP Wow! Please take a read and leave some comments.
Thanks for the words, Joyd. I'm more than likely going to write a follow-up, depending on the reaction I get from this one.
Please refrain from making jokes so bad they physically hurt. Otherwise, a pretty good read.
Also, I know the article is exciting, but don't forget to check out Anime of the Week as well. It's one of my all time favorites. I even have a wall-scroll of it on my wall. *huggles R.O.D.*
After some playtesting, I have seen that some drastic changes are needed for Gauntlet.
First, blue is evil. It pwns. Alacar Leoricar is BROKEN. It's getting more and more apparent. Therefore, I need to make it easier for the other colors to handle him, especially red.
Red has been given a few handy burn spells to eliminate Alacar and a slew of other problems in blue. White and green have been given better enchantment removal.
More playtesting is needed to see if the burn is too good. But to be honest, I gotta nip Alacar in the bud.
Attached is an updated spoiler. Please re-install Gauntlet in MWS.
very nice article Alacar, i liked it and i gazed at gauntlet and i really like the smoldering jungle and the land cycle in there. Nice set..:)
sorry for spamming last night i didn't mean to i thought i put more because i was typing and looking at something else and then i click at bottom of reply and put -Ray. Well i got an infraction and that sucks, but now i just can't get another one
thanks

@ Mr. Stuff: Ooh... ROD, that sounds...interesting, from that clip and pictures you showed... I might go watch it on youtube later today if i find myself with nothing else to do. For now, im just playing a bunch of random old N64 games that I forgot i had and loved to play.
@ Alacar: Grats on getting your article published! I found it very interesting, and the numbers of 88/88/110 i was looking for, so i need to go and change my template now to accomodate that.
@*** Hater: Sorry, but Dev Pascal is something i have never worked with. The only programming I have really worked with is C++, Java, some Visual Basic, and some BASIC.
Quote from Yukora »
Enough of that. I can honestly say that RJ isn't as bad as everyone believes it is. In fact, it has a lot of parrallels with this clan.
I will have to agree with Yukora sort of here, I really havent seen RJ do anything bad or were people there stupid or anything, I respect them as any other clan, and if they want to do that in their clan they can.
Yea sorry about that *** Hater, I saw you mention it and after my post i noticed that you fixed it.
Anyways, im out to get lunch and a few papers filled out, as tomorrow i think im taking my driver's permit test...yes, this crazy nemcon might be on the roads...watch out.
Recently, it has come to my attention that there have been girls showing up on this site, particularly in Introduce Yourself. So, in order to make sure we are all clear on the proper etiquette, may I present to you...
Photon Eater's Rules for Greeting Girls on MTGS!
1. If you meet a girl online, being friendly with her does NOT mean she'll date you.
2. If you meet a girl online, being friendly with her does NOT mean she'll date you.
3. If you meet a girl online, being friendly with her does NOT mean she'll date you.
4. A girl is basically just like a guy, only with boobs. Some believe that they may, in fact, be full of magic, or at least rainbow colored light that grants all your wishes. This is, in fact, a load of crap. Girls are not that special. They are not like walking Moxen. In fact, they have more in common with your average Grizzly Bear in that they are quite common, pretty ordinary, and have been so forever. They make up exactly HALF the world's population, and have been around since the dawn of time. In fact, your own mother may very well be one.
5. If you meet a girl online, being friendly with her does NOT mean she'll date you.
6. There are, in fact, OTHER girls on this site. A lot of them. So when some new girl shows up, do not act surprised. This has happened before.
7. Don't be that guy who says "we need more girls on this site." Why? Refer to Rule 1. It will not get you laid. It will just make you seem like that one lonely loser who plays D&D in his mom's basement every Saturday and always has orange fingers from eating cheet-ohs.
8. If you meet a girl online, being friendly with her does NOT mean she'll date you.
9. Please... whatever you do... refrain from the standard "Oh my God, I wish I knew a girl who played MTG!" line. It's old. We get it, you wanna bag a geeky one. But saying it out loud just makes you the guy from rule 7.
10. Finally, think of it this way- for every new girl who shows up and gets a tickertape parade of welcomes and proposals to date, I will spam up your PM box with creepy come-ons and propositions for anonymous sex. After all, if you straight guys are going to act that way towards your preferred gender on this site, then why shouldn't I?

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Ahh. Another fine day. *ninja flips into the chair I summoned last night* I guess I'm the only one here right now so I think I'll make myself comfortable. *pours a glass of coke* That's better. At least I ditched that zombie assasin.
Don't worry about it, Yukora. Making fun of Robot Jesus is about as common as taking a seat and about as full of malicious intent as a gentle pat on the shoulder.
Thanks for the comments so far. Chances are, I will write a followup, touching on the following key points:
1) What kind of a set should I make?
2) How much design should I do?
3) What is the life of a set like AFTER it's done?
4) How can I get a set to be played around here?
And more.
edit: OMG PHOTON.. it is about freaking time someone said it. You need to spread this public service to certain IYS threads.

I think you should follow up on the life of a set after it's completion first and foremost, as that is primarily untreaded ground for most custom set designers.

It's monday, which means it's time for:
ANIME OF THE WEEK
This week's anime: Read or Die: The TV

(no seriously, watch this clip, it is amazing)
