I actually feel that ActRaiser hasn't aged particularly well. I enjoyed a lot it when I played it way back, but when I recently replayed it, it failed to hold my interest; the platforming felt sort of generic and the overland development phase felt tedious. I feel like the general system, however, has a lot of room to be reimagined into something really cool.
If you ask me, Kirby 64 did an excellent job capturing the feel of the versions on older systems, something that many N64 updates of games failed to do. (Not that the games themselves were bad, just that they didn't really capture the feeling of the originals.)
All the more reason for an ActRaiser remake, Joyd. I think the ActRaiser/Soulblazer/Terranigma series has a lot of potential for a re-imagining on a newer console. I do think the platformer aspects of ActRaiser were pretty choppy and sometimes really annoying; think about it in 3D, though, with a Gamecube controller instead of a SNES one. I bet it'd be a vast improvement.
@Chrono Trigger: I kind of agree, but I kind of don't. I've gotten pretty sick of Chrono Trigger because I'd played it a million times and I think that the New Game + was a bit too rewarding. Same with Chrono Cross, even though I adore that game. What I'd like to see is a remake of the game in between, Radical Dreamers. We never saw it in the states, and that's part of the reason why Chrono Cross was met with a lot of head-scratching. It was originally a text-based game, but I think it could be re-worked into a Chrono Cross-ish style pretty well. And we'd finally have the last piece of the Chrono puzzle available in the US =)
My opinion on classic games: If you're gonna update a game to today's standards and make a sequel out of the Actraiser/Soulblazer/Terranigma series, it's gonna be the Terranigma series. It was just far deeper and had such a better storyline than any of the others. And while I'm at it give me Startropics, Crysalis, and Illusion of Gaia too.
However, my number one pick, Secret of Mana, is already getting a treatment for the PS2 coming out next March so I'm willing to hold my breath on that until I see just how bad/badass it's gonna be.

Let's make that for the DS or Wii. I think there's just too much potential in those systems for that game that it's hard to dismiss it.
Actually, if you think about it, you WILL be able to play Chrono Trigger on the Wii. That's an encouraging thought. 'Course, you'll probably have to pay $15 or some other high number.
good point Alacar, but I still want Trigger/Cross remade. Although you are right on the non-US released one, Ethersphere, I wish they'd remake that one.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I couldn't agree more! I would absolutely love to see Radical Dreamers remade. It would clear up some things in the story and I'd really like to see that because I loved both of the Chrono games. I remember way back when, I heard about something called "Chrono Break", supposed to be released in 2004. I don't know if it was related at all or anything about the game. I'm guessing if there was such a game, it got canceled or something to that effect.
I'd also like to see Earthbound remade. They already have Ness updated in SSBM, and I'm hoping for another Earthbound character in Brawl.
So, anybody played Deadly Towers? Or is it too far back in the "wayback" machine?
I had a neighbor with that game. Never made too much headway on it, but then again, I didn't actually own it and that kid had some serious ADHD. You know all of those kids getting overprescribed ritalin and being falsely diagnosed as Hyperactive? He's not one of them.
Ah good old nes games. Wow thats pretty impressive because I remember that game was pretty hard. Well pretty much the adventure/rpgs i actually played were crystallis, faxandu, dragon warrior 1-4, kickle cubicle and i even played princess tomato for the nes there is probably alot more though.
Crystalis may be my favorite game of all time. It's on the list at the very least. The setting and style was really unique, and I'd love to see a modern remake of it. It was unique and open enough to probably be able to redefine iteself on a next-gen console.
I'd choose Pokemon. If I can't choose that, I'd choose... Hmm. Earthbound, I think, would be a lot of fun on a modern console, but wouldn't gain much, and might lose a lot of its charm. The Breath of Fire titles might also be cool, since I like the characterizations.
Pokemon always struck me as a game that could have been made very well. It was just too simple and obsessive in the end. There are too few options and too few development choices. They really should have made a team version of that game that used multiple pokemon on the same side. That game, considering how many versions of it there have been, has made very little headway in developing itself.
@the idea of a real-time FF: I'd probably play it in realtime, given the choice. I like the intensity of an RTS, and it overcomes the inherent "easiness" (i.e. level up all you want) of an RPG. Although it seems like you'd have to limit the menu options or go insane and memorize every spell and ability's location.

The game is deceptively simple... It actually has a very advanced and complicated stats system.
They have incorperated 2 on 2 battles if thats what you're getting at.
No one should disagree that they haven't advanced the mechanics a whole lot though, they really only update the graphics every time:-/.

True. There is something to the game that's fascinating. But I'm more interested in the all-out, super complicated, mega battles and super-stats with tons of options version of the game. They, ironically enough, should make a version that kids would be unnable to play.
@BuzzDX: I'd rather see Toad (the final SMB2 character: my ideal 4-player brawl situation) before any other earthbound character. Besides, they've already conflated some of Paula's abilities (PK fire, PK thunder) into Ness. So they don't seem too interested in keeping things straight.
Theres a lot of hate out there. FF12 could be an excelent game.
I swear, it's like a bunch of athiests at a christian retreat
Some of us at Natural 20 actually like it.
Okay, you watch dozens of your favorite games be trampled into the dirt by a sub par series to the point that you can only emulate them or spend an exorbitant amount of money to import them, and then I'll share the FF love.
No one is saying you can't like it. But that doesn't mean I can't get irritated at the hype- which far outweighs the hate, on this site or anywhere else.

Hmm, well I can understand that
I don't look at other sites very much, and my little RPG comunity is very open minded to all games, so I guess I don't experience much polarized hate to games I enjoy. Outside of a few friends hating FF9 on the premise of: "Well, its a great game, with an amazing story.. But I just couldn't get over the fact that the protagonist had a tail"
I can understand your perspective, now that I think about it, with 3rd edition Forgotten realms. It's sortof the same boat for me. I like the old one so much better, and the existance of the new one, which I find sub-par, makes it nearly imposible for me to discuss my games. It also means that I have to go on a bloody treasure hunt for old out of print books every time I need "new" material, or download it in pdf format. Just as an example, it literally took me days to track down a PDF of the necromancers handbook. The prices of covoted books, like the Red Wizards of Thay boxed set or The Seven Sisters, can be rediculous.
P.S. If any of you have these books for trade, or Volo's guide to all things magical and The Wizards Spell Compendiums (vol. 1-4). Just let me know

Well, hey, I'm incredibly open-minded (for God's sake, I have a 100% file for FFX-2). I've played more RPGs than anyone else in this clan, short of ethersphere. I think it's hardly fair to imply we aren't open-minded because we're less than thrilled by the most mainstream game out there.
My only gripe with the series is that A) they have devolved into basically a pretty walk from point A to point B, and B) their reputation damages the potential for other games that are just as good, if not better. I just really wish people who claim to be console RPG fans would try and expand their experience and gaming repetoire, you know? The supposed RPG gamers who say they love console RPGs but never play anything other than FF/FF variants are sort of like people who claim to like Mexican food but only eat at Taco Bell.
That said, I do own and have completed every FF title, and all their American spin-offs/variants/etc, and have emulated and played all the unreleased titles. As a series, they fluxuate between being a solid B+ to dragging down as low as being a high C with certain titles. So they aren't bad, but god damn if I'm not sick to death of hearing about them.
Well, I'm sure Toad will be his own character. Seeing as how Bowser and Peach won the Nintendo Power poll and were put into Melee. Wario and Toad won the next one, so if they follow the poll like last time, Toad should be in there as well.
As for the abilites, I know Ness already has all those, but I was thinking more along the lines of maybe Jeff or Poo. Both could be intersting. Jeff could be a good distance character like Samus and use some interesting gadgets. As for Poo, I like to see him with powers like PK Freeze and Starstorm.

Oh no no no! I wasn't implying you were close minded. I was implying that the majoirty of the RPG gamers are.. I.E. only playing FF and closing thier minds to other, potentially better games.
Wouldn't poo end up being a clone character? I'd actually play poo if he were a kind of shang tsung character that let you assume the foe's appearance. And I'm not sure that Jeff or Poo has a strong enough following to get into a mainstream game. We're more likely to se a starman character or a pokey.
And I guess that makes me a little psyched to see toad in the next game! Here's hoping that he has peache's vegetable ability, only a ton faster, and with different objects.

Yeah, I would agree. There are a lot of awesome games people should give a try, which makes me sad.

Hmmm...good point. One of my main hopes was that they cut down on the clones in the next game. And I should punish myself for forgetting about Poo's Mirror ability. That would make for an interesting game, I'd say.
For Toad, I'm sure nintendo will have to delve into his mushroomness a bit. Vegetables, perhaps a spore-like attack. It'd look wierd, but I can see him take off the mushroom part of his head (if such a thing is possible) and using it like a parachute. It will be a pretty good game either way.
I think that the 'clone problem' is less severe in smash than it is in other games. The drastic difference between weights makes many of the clones too dissimilar to be interchangeable. (Marth and Roy being an exception)

I am looking forward to Brawl myself. I hope they keep everyone else in the game, but I wouldn't mind it if Shiek were de-powered a bit.
I don't know anything about Earthbound, so I have no idea who the characters are.
De-power shiek? Must... resist urge... to dispute... obvious truths!
Yeah, shiek is a little too powerful. Can I help that I like her? But there are a lot of characters in that game that could do with a better balance of power.
I think that the 'clone problem' is less severe in smash than it is in other games. The drastic difference between weights makes many of the clones too dissimilar to be interchangeable. (Marth and Roy being an exception)
I don't think there are any real clones in that game. Dr. Mario/ Mario have weight differences and other differnces that are suble, so they're probaly the closest. But as someone who's played a fair amount of Marth, I can tell you that Roy plays very, very differently. They have different sweet spots, different speeds, attack powers and recovery times, and although they have the same moves visually, the effect of any given move is quite different for Marth or Roy.
Sheik/Zelda is my favorite character in that game, really. But I have to admit it may have more to do with the character than the game mechanics. I mean, come on, a magic princess that turns into a ninja boy? That basically is me!
@Suggested RPGs: Titles in the SaGa series, including Romancing SaGa, and Wild ARMs are my chief candidates for now, and I can get into why I like them later.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Shiek is so cool and powerful, I'd dress up like Zelda if it meant I could turn into Shiek.
I'd really like to see a remake of Shadowgate. Quick note for those of you who've played this game and think it has lost replay value. Pick up the Game Boy color version and try to play the game through on swedish, german, or french. It retains some of its initial difficulty.
My favorite/best character on SSBM? Young Link. He's so versatile, even if people get pissed at his spin attack--even if they don't realize it's not unstoppable by any means.
Other characters I'm good with: Link, Mario, Dr. Mario, Ganondorf
As for the games.. meh. I'm sticking with Kirby's Adventure.
