I just got done designing a new RPG system (which is fairly setting-free) and having my friends roll up character, so to speak (even though no rolling is involved.) It's a lot like dogs of the vineyard or well, I can't remember the other game it's like, but suffice it to say that it's an alternative RPG.
I actually haven't gotten to writing the sourcebook yet, but now that I have a few example characters, I know what mistakes to avoid and what to emphasize.
Also, was Kefka really gay? I got the impression he was just turning up the creepy dial to 11. I don't recall anything explicitly gay from him. Perhaps the closest is his with with Leo?
I dont really remember anything either maybe i should play the game again to observe that. Too bad I dont have it for super nes or a super nes for that matter I was thinking about buying it for gba considering i heard its going to have some upgrades and possibly adding some extra parts to the story to make the overall storyline more in depth then the original well thats what i am hoping anyway even though the original storyline was a masterpiece in its own right.
I playd through the game recently [on a SNES :p] and didn't see anything explicitly gay. I mean, it's not like they went out of their way to make him not gay, but it isn't stated either.
I'm interested in the ports for GBA just because I have a morbid fear that my SNES will eventaully die. This must be how people who actually flop their moxen feel.
Actually, "flopping your moxen" sounds pretty gross.

I don't actually think Kefka was gay, although I have heard rumors of him having some questionable dialogue in the original Japanese- rumors I have never seen substantial proof of.
So, you are writing your own system? That's interesting, I'm currently working on the same. Feel free to bounce ideas off of us.

All I know is that Gilgamesh and Leviathan are being added as new Espers.
Gahhh.. remind me never to do a dragon-based adventure until I'm ready to lose my mind.
Okay, I made Crimdrac the Dracolich, an Adult Red Dragon turned Dracolich, whose CR is 18, and the average level of the party is 11.25 (6 level 11s and 2 level 12s). I'm confident a team of 8 can take it down. Now I've got to make Dracandros, a level 12 Wizard with a Wyrmling familiar. Blah!!
I already ran Pool of Radience: Assault on Myth Drannor, so the Dracolich there was taken care of. Unfortunately, the Cleric (who, mind you, often does nothing in this campaign) used his 1/day Greater Turning, Rolled a Nat 20, then Double 6's on his turning check. He disintigrated the damn thing!
Check out the Draconomicon, as it has dragons of all colors and CRs pre-generated in the back. From there, applying the template is a cakewalk.

I have the Draconomicon, and it's also chock fulla stuff. It's overwhelming. I appreciate the template, but I just used this little tool. It creates an adventure entry that has everything I need.
I never got the impression that Kefka was gay, but Kefka's sexual and romantic preferences aren't really brought up anywhere in the game as far as I recall.

Yeah I agree. All he was doing was being the best villian he could possibly be like draining espers powers in the magitek facility also poisoning the water supply of cyan's kingdom and much more. He is no sephiroth but he is still a pretty darn good villian in his own right.

Agreed. I think that alot of people liked Kefka as a villian mainly because he was able to get things done. He actually succeded in some of his endevors and not foiled by the heroes at every turn. As for him being gay, there was nothing in the game I remember that even hinted at it.
That's for sure. Kefka's more villainous than Sephiroth, and doesn't look like he's in constant need of conditioner. Sephiroth wanted to blow up the world. Kefka wanted to f*** it up, then blow it up.
As for the gay thing: It's a joke. He's a little effeminate. That's all. But it's sure as hell funny to joke about it
Kefka did every thing with flair, he wasn't exactly gay. IMO he's the best FF villain, at least the ones I've played at great length. Although the clown costume and make up do put some question into his character.
Actually, I like just about everything in FFVI

The one thing I love about Draconomicon are all the sorcerer-specific goodies. I feel like the sorcerer class is always getting the shaft, so it's nice to see some unique stuff for it. I adore the spell Entice Gift, too. You better believe Kurt was spamming that sonnuva*****.

Ugh. Sephiroth. Personally, I think Sephiroth is a pretty subpar villain, in that he lets his mommy do all his work for him.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
There ya go. You started it. Well, actually, people made gay jokes and references off of it, including yourself.
As for the dragons.. they're built. I just hope they don't try to fight Tiamat and her entourage.
Actually, I said he WASN'T gay, stating his college experimentation phase consisted of dressing like a visual kei star and shooting up with Esper blood. (And surprising as this may be, the fact that I have implied that a person had shared a living quarters with me, be they fictional or not, is not necessarily a testimony for their alternative sexual behaviors.)
The gay conversation emerged after that, when wamyc asked if Kefka was supposed to be gay in the Japanese. So I'm just sort of wondering how it became such a topic of discussion. Besides, if anyone in the FF6 cast is gay, it's freakin' Sabin.
Come on. Big blond guy, living in a quaint cabin in the mountains, constantly working out...

Yeah it was actually weird coming up with a discussion on kefka being gay or not. I am surprised that sabin didnt get any muscle aches by working out so much of course hes a fictional character so thats why. Now onto other things Ive actually had yet another boring weekend nothing really has been exciting going on except just studying and on the computer on magic workstation working on my firemane control deck for type 2 then playing about 3-4 games on magic workstation with crimson avatar that part was actually fun but my other parts of my weekend have been pretty boring and slow. Oh well it happens.
I did like Kefka a lot, but to be honest, I think as far as Final Fantasy villains go, I have come to appreciate Ultimecia from FFVIII more. She just seems so much more sinister.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.

Hey Mamelon! How has your weekend been? Yeah plus Ultimecia has the power to compress time and she has a castle thats in the abyss of time itself. She even seal away all of your character's abilities in every corner of her castle so she pretty much has the whole package. I also just find it mind blowing that her form when she uses the power of the most powerful guardian force does not even compare to her true form. It's like ultemecia just used about 30 percent of her total power.
*dies* My PS2 just broke, and to make matters worse, I'm in the middle of Okami! This is a dark day indeed.
My favorite console rpg.. That would be FF9. I expect a lot of flack and/or flaming for my choice, but I'm used to it.
noooooo not a broken ps2. Yeah I thought mine broke once before because I couldnt open the dvd door to the system. Nah I dont think we will flame you because we are nice people.:) I also like ff9 as well. Its got a good storyline and its pretty fun in my opinion.

What? Who would flame that? 9 was great. It actually captured the feel of the pre-PS games: no easy task. I really considered 8 to be a dive and this game got things back on track.
OOC IM not dead, just tired...
I feel out of place with all the FF conversation, I have only played X-2 and IV... Yeah, its lame but hey. I'm getting III when it comes out for DS in a few months, then I suppose I'll start tracking down the other ones...
Oh my, I just used Out of Character...IM such a coloholic...

Oh man, that does suck.
Why would you get flack? You like what you like, and no one has the right to tell you otherwise. Furthermore, while yes, I'm not a huge fan of FF games, I'll concede there isn't anything wrong with them as stand-alone games, and FF9 is by and far one of the better next-gen FF games.
P.S. Grappler12 gets a +1 katana for getting the 400th post.
FF9 isn't really among the games that gets targeted a lot; of the Final Fantasy games, 7, 8, and X-2 are the most popular targets for ridicule. (Of course, this is coming from a guy who picked Pokemon.)
I've sort of arbitrarily started playing Dragon Quest V. (Is this a good one to start with, or should I pick another?) One of my favorite elements so far is that battles have two characteristics that you don't see much - first, they're fast. I think my least favorite part of FF7 was the two seconds of load time before each battle and the fact that certain character actions took a long time. Second, they're not auto-wins. I might not be as high-level as I should be for where I am in the game, but each individual random encounter is potentially a threat to my characters, and several tough random encounters in a row can do me in.

DQV is probably the most different of the DQ titles, but it pioneered a lot of concepts that became fixtures in later titles.
Yeah, that's the beauty of DQ battles- they have an innate simplicity, and yet, the element of strategy remains intact.
A few thoughts here:
1. I've noticed other clans have something like member profiles. Maybe we should do something like that, posting a little profile for each member on the front page?
2. New thread starting at 500 posts, or in 5 days, whichever comes first. Mamelon has selected the thread title already.
3. I've noticed we have a lot of friends, but very few that post regularly. What do you guys think of maybe only listing those that actually stick around as friends as actual "friends", and then just letting those that only post once in a while do just that, without any sort of special status? I kind of feel like people like Shaharazad and grappler12 and some others are more actual clan friends than a lot of other people on the friends' list. Any thoughts on that?
