I have Ico and I gotta say, it's a breathtaking game visually. The puzzles are a little challenging, but the game only lasts about 5 hardcore hours of puzzle-solving gaming. But hoo-boy that's a fantastic 5 hours!
SotC is much the same way. The plot, much like Ico, is rather undercut and thin, but the gameplay is nearly seamless and the graphics and camera positions and effects as you battle humongous colossi (colossuses?) on an open plain is just stunning.
Just got back from my group's game night. Got one more sunday before classes start. Ah well. BUT we had a great time running and finishing important adventures for both campaigns. In mine, the party is halfway to level 9 and has freed themselves of one bond. In Kevin's, we're level 5 and about to set out on an open journey, wherever we want to go.
I'm also back from a 2-day hiatus as my computer needed repair. I'm back with a vengeance!

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Yes, yes indeed it is. It's functioning fully, just needs a handful of programs and utilities re-installed. But for now it works.
Hooray! Alacar is with us once again!
Speaking of non-RPG videogames with RPG elements, I command you to go out and buy Otogi 1 and 2 if you own an Xbox haven't done so. Or else. Otogi has it all- spectacular, explosive combat (you have to play the boss fight against
Kudara the Storm Centipede
to beleive it); zen-like philosophy; some of the coolest weapons ever; and
an antagonist so menacing that you don't even learn his name until the fourth-to-last level, but you fear him from the first.
So go out and get those games or Raikoh will come to your house and kill you mercilessly with his gigantic sword!
UPDATE: Lazarus Pelorsson is back once more (Elfstar'd!) and he's going to fight the beastie whose very name strikes fear into the heart of every adventurer- the Tarrasque! (dun dun dun!)
Ah, the Tarrasque... so intimidating, and yet everyone has their own stupid "How I beat the Tarrasque" story.
So, how many of you have actually encountered Big T?
I personally haven't ever. In the only campaign that got far enough in levels for it to be appropriate, it was wildly out of place (what with the Material Plane being destroyed and all). And in all the others, the campaigns are either still underway or have petered out around level 12.

Actually, I have never faced the Terrasque. In fact, I stumbled across his entry in the Monster Manual--that's how I found out about him. We don't normally run high-level campaigns because it can get hard for the DM to throw a challenge out there. I was actually surprised the party managed to survive the final fight in the last adventure in my campaign:
The enemy:
2 6th level rogues
2 4th level rogues
1 13th level rogue
5 7th level fighters
1 3rd level cleric
2 Trolls
with 8 4th level rogues coming in for backup with 4 Hell Hounds as support.
It was a tough fight to be sure, and the spellcasters couldn't easily get any good offensive spells out without damaging somone important. But they were holding their own until the cavalry arrived and saved their butts.
I've never actually fought the Tarasque suprisingly enough. Our GM loves it, but he hasn't wanted to introduce the beast in any of our games. I know that before I joined the group, they had a run-in it though.
There are two things though, that I've fought, that were entirely rediculous. One was the avatar of this evil god, on his plane of existance.. and the other.. Well, we had to fight an Abyssal lord once. These things are named demons and are pretty much dimi-gods. This one in particular required +5 weapons to hit him, and had 90% magic resistance.

The one guy I fought who was a real bastard was Iillikquaaza, who was an abyssal lord. Goddamned tentacle grapple attacks! You think you've seen bad tentacle grappling with illithids and krakens, you haven't seen anything. And unlike the Tarrasque, the mofo charged. Aaargh! Big T will seem easy, now that I have fought this guy...
Haha, I know what you mean. The one Abyssal lord we fought was more humanoid (no tentacles), but he has this ability to "blink" wherever the hell he wants to be during a round and then take full actions. It was extremly challenging considering that we were fighting basically on two adjacent zigarauts. It was cool though, it was durring that fight, that my ranger dualed over to Paladan (Dual classing is different in 2nd edition). He had been building up to it for a long time, and I just looked at the GM, and said that "this is the perfect place and time for roland to become a paladan", and he totally agreed. (Rolands god hates demons).
How many people have had experience playing paladins?

Paladins are one of those "trouble" classes, so I only allow certain people to play them in my campaigns. Mamelon plays one very well- she manages to get the Lawful Good alignment and code of behavior down very well, but doesn't become Lawful Stupid and perpetually have a stick up her ass, either.
As I said, I haven't run the Tarrasque, but I've heard some awful stories from my brother about the Tarrasque showing up in his campaigns- in which a 112 pound female elf monk managed to grapple and pin it somehow... Of course, the plots of their campaigns rarely vary- just cut a swath of death across the continent, killing every entry in the monster manual, until you hit epic, at which point you turn your guns on the entries in Demigods and Deities. When their last campaign ended, they were planning to kill Garl Glittergold, simply because they didn't like the way he looked.
New topic: Are there any classes you simply do not like?
Also, another reason I love ethersphere- he's going to play through FFVII again, and keep a detailed journal of all his horrified reactions to the game.

Yay. I've met another person who says "Lawfull stupid". One of my favorites is "Chaotic Stupid (evil)"
I think once some new player in our group tried to play a chaotic evil character, went on a reckless murder spree.. then got arrested. LOL
I love playing evil characters in a good party, but you gota do it like they do it in real life... I.E. don't run around with a sign on your back that says "Kick me im evil!" Extremes on the alignment can be so challenging to play correctly, but to be honest, I've seen more conflict come from the struggles between Chaos//Lawfullness than Good//Evil.
About the topic: There is no class that I specifically dislike. I've personally never favored playing thieves. I believe that is my personality shining through though, as I tend to be a more dirrect person; I prefer the more dirrect classes. I do like bards though, and I've had some fun playing a nature oriented bard.

I think it's because Law and Chaos are less clear cut, and yet, at the same time more ambiguous. A vast amount of disagreements between individuals in our own world are based in a difference between conservatism (law) and liberalism (chaos), but at the same time, Law and Chaos are lacking a tangible identity like Good and Evil.
Me, I don't care for prepared casters, and I really don't like the Wizard. At all.

My Paladin is 10th level, a countess named Portia (Lawful Good, of course). She is a Charisma-focused warrior, to maximize her defensive abilities, Lay on Hands, and smiting. She wields a holy magical katana of alchemical silver called Umbrage. Her behavior focuses more of the "good" aspect of her alignment. She is very compassionate, has a strong faith in people, and is passionate about defending the weak.

While we're on the topic of epic-level encounters, has anyone else in the clan ever faced off against an Abomination? Our group did in epic levels (read: once the world got blowed up) and it was TOUGH. Even for an epic Druid with a Legendary animal companion it was tough >_<;;
Of course, the plots of their campaigns rarely vary- just cut a swath of death across the continent, killing every entry in the monster manual, until you hit epic, at which point you turn your guns on the entries in Demigods and Deities. Slaughterfests are fun to do sometimes. But the gnome god? What have gnomes ever done to them? Some of my best friends are gnomes!
Anyways, tomorrow Lazarus & co. go toe to toe with the Tarrasque. Place your bets now!
Paladins are really hard to RP because if you make one single minor alignment violation, your paladin powers go poof. And it's really hard to define good and evil- what do you do when a werewolf charges a group of defenseless peasants? Can you kill the werewolf knowing it'd be a human in the morning... etc.
I think that Good and Evil aren't so hard to figure out if you can ask yourself one question, in character- who is harmed by my actions? In the case you presented, the werewolf needn't be destroyed, only disabled.
Of course, it's always popular for evil GMs to set up a paladin to fail, and railroad them into one of those age-old moral dilemmas where they have to do something ridiculous, like kill a million grandmas or allow a village full of child nuns and kittens be eaten by vampire rapists, or something equally impossible and arbritrarily retarded.

Roland lost his path one time. It was when his wife died. He basically questioned the will of his god, and wanted to ask Pendalia if she wished to be resurected, Inky had commanded that her body be laid into the sea. After some deliberation, Roland told the priest of Azuth to "Cast the spell", and roland ceased to be a paladan. This condition lasted for several months till he repented. He still never gained back his granted abilities of Waterbreathing by touch. This was a gift of his god, and it was never bestowed again.

That's a shame, really. Just the knowledge that so many bonehead Paladin players out there are stabbing pregnant women for the greater good and getting away with it by having Atonement cast on it while your Paladin gets hosed for wanting to resurrect his wife is really a sad thought.

That really, really, really sucks. And it wasn't even an alignment violation, really, Roland's god ganked him.
I wish I knew where you lived so I could wish all his powers back...
Well, it really wasn't that bad. You have to understand the gravity of the situation. I guess you would have had to been there for the buildup.
Roland has always been in this wierd situaton. You see, his wife is the chosen of his god. It's sortof like, dating the presidents daughter or soemthing LOL. Whenever she died, the avatar of the god appeared and in this great solem ceremony, he asked for her remains to be set to sea. It was a beautifull scene, and it made sense, but Roland refused to see this.
This was sortof a test of faith on roland, who defied the wishes of his god, while he was standing right in front of him.
I could have gotten my abilities back by repenting at any point really, but I wanted to role play out the entire scanerio, it gave for some great character growth and interaction with the other pcs and npcs. You gota understand, that the entire party was a religious one. We had a plethora of various faiths represented and it proved for some deep roleplaying.
In other words, im not complaining. It was one of those times that defined the character. It was like his old life (vengefull, self-centered ranger) was conflicting with his newer self. After this event occured, Roland truly reverted to his old self. He stoped being the charasmatic leader and honorable warrior, and reverted to his brooding, ruthless self. He started making "Called shots" to the back of enemies heads again, it was cool as hell how it worked out. It took time for him to come to his senses so to speak, Pendaila was eventually granted life by Enki again, but Roland stayed in mourning for a time after that.
Once he repented though, he got the bulk of his powers back. Since Enky is the god of magic and rivers, roland got back his access to the elemental spheres and also to the abjuration fields of magely magic. The waterbreathing by touch was this special, additional power, that was a gift for being Enki's "Champion". There are certain benifits that come from worshiping a new god, who doesn't have many followers.
SotC is much the same way. The plot, much like Ico, is rather undercut and thin, but the gameplay is nearly seamless and the graphics and camera positions and effects as you battle humongous colossi (colossuses?) on an open plain is just stunning.

Off topic - new espresso machine is going great! It's taken some experience, but I just made the perfect cappuccino
