Something I wanted to gripe about... This morning I got up early so I decided to play a bit of Radiata Stories before work, so I did.. but GAH it wouldn't work!! I clicked on the "Saved File" that I was working on and the screen went black (you know, how it usually does, only to quickly reappear.. only this time it remained black!!! )
I was sooo upset.. I wanted to play this game more.. I dearly hope this means I don't need to return THIS game... I could barely find a copy! I looked at the CD.. looks like a scratch on it.. but i'm not sure.....
What should I do to get rid of scratches???? I wanna play this game... I'm a little worried cuz the exact same thing happened to the Sims when I bought it.. i returned it in favor of Radiata Stories, LOTR: Third Age and Dragon Quarter... now this happens again!? What do I do???
Ooh and in other news, I'm sending Crimson Avatar payment tonight for his copy of Dragon Quest VIII.. yaaay .. I'm soo excited... I just hope it arrives here before I have to go back to RIT...
Btw, RIT (Rochester Institute of Techology = Gaming Mecca for Nerds Seriously - If anybody's looking for a college welcome to gamers, RIT's it.
EDIT: Btw, what's my title mean?? I don't play D&D... yet. lol.. I maaay be joining a campaign this fall tho.... hehehe Yippee! I'm excited about that prospect!
Well, some game stores offer a disc refinishing service that is usually only a couple of bucks. Unless the scratch is very deep (and considering the game played at all, this probably isn't the case), it can probably be repaired. That's sad to hear, though, but I'm sure Josh will be thrilled that you are gonna give DQ8 a try. He and Mamelon have both been playing it recently- Josh for the third time, and Mamelon for the first. They are both enjoying it immensely.
Meanwhile, I'll use this opportunity to introduce myself, from a Natural 20 perspective.
I'm Photon Eater, leader of Natural 20.
I play- D&D v.3.5, d20 Modern, and I've been contemplating giving Blue Rose and True20 a try. I'm also a lifelong console gamer, and I adore console RPGs. I've done up my own game concept (which was put on the back burner after 4 years of work, and is currently being adapted to a new medium), and I have designed my own game system for a forum RP that my friends and I participate in, called Rise (the link to the forum is in my extendo-sig, if you are curious).
By the way, can anyone clarify something for me- we have 6 members, although they haven't all posted yet. They have just stated they wish to join via PM and other venues. Can I go ahead and announce the clan to the Clan Council now, or do I need to wait for them all to have posted or something to that effect?
Edit: Sure, Priest, you can be a friend! In fact, just throwing this out here, but forum RPs count, too... I mean, I don't want this to turn into Clan Colloseum exclusively, but forum RPs are a lot of fun, and definitely part of the gaming experience, so all you World Project guys are more than welcome here!
EDIT: Btw, what's my title mean?? I don't play D&D... yet. lol.. I maaay be joining a campaign this fall tho.... hehehe Yippee! I'm excited about that prospect!
Well, Druids in D&D get animal companions, which are special animals that share a mystic bond with the druid. The animal companion and the druid can communicate with their masters, and they work together as sort of a team, which is one of the many strengths the druid has as a class. As for 4HD, that means 4 hit dice, which is equivalent to being around Level 4, and Dire is just a supertype for some animals in D&D, which basically means they are bigger and stronger than other animals of their type.
Well, I left Mythos because the group really had died, and Mamelon and I were talking, and we were like "Holy crap, how is there NOT a gaming clan? We should so make one!" So here we are. I loved mythos a lot, though, and I was sad to leave it. I felt pretty bad about it, actually.

I think he just means guilt, for leaving the clan.
Anyway- GAMING!
What console games are we all currently playing? I'm playing Suikoden Tactics, myself, and also playing Wild Arms 4, when I find the time. I'm really liking Suikoden Tactics because of the challenge it presents. It's sort of like Fire Emblem in a lot of ways, which is a good thing.
Edit: Welcome, Kemo! D&D is a lot of fun, and worth playing if you really enjoy combat. As a story-telling exercise, the system is sometimes a little awkward, but my group enjoys it because we like doing over-the-top, soap opera-esque stories with lots of action. The system provides the combat crunch we like, and we just sort of wing it in terms of roleplaying. I've never played Lo5Rs myself, but I have the PDF of the latest edition's handbook. It looked pretty interesting.

Thanks, man.
Forum RP's can be a pain sometimes. Especially when the quest you run has 9 people in it Lol, but anyways, I think I do alright in my CTP, because I got alot of good feedback.

*waves* It's been a blast everyone.
Don't I know it. The other weekend, I ran a 6 person combat session in Rise, and it was ridiculous! Everyone enjoyed it, but as the person running the game, it was a real headache to juggle all those stats and actions at once, and it took a lot of time.
BTW- does anyone know anything about the question concering the clan council that I asked earlier?

Hmm ... Well, I never played a real RPG before. It's always colo style. Make your character and go to it. I never had to worry about stats, or abilities, really. Although 8 actions at a time, someone godmodding once in a while ... It's terrible
Anyways, I play mostly D&D 3,5 as rpging goes. Im currently in a large campaign (8 people) and dming a normal one myself I love eberron by the way.
As for other games and such I guess I could be called a gamer Atm Im playing Burnout Revenge a lot but also some guilty gear x2, best fighting game ever.
Photon Eater: Check out www.wesnoth.org. Its a free open source game that old school turn based strategy. Its a lot like fire emblem in the way you fight but a bit more advanced. (I want more fire emblem :() Its also only 40 megs but it has full multiplayer support, even lan and hotseat. It also has 3 campaigns++ Such free awsomeness ^^
Oh and is anyone looking forward to Twilight Princess on Wii? I SURE AM :D:D Im almost on my toes tripping for the dam console and game to come out soon. Im such a zelda fan, I even have a zelda wall clock ^^
Anyways, I would also like to request friendship
edit: Im starting up as a player soon in a rpg called jadeclaw, based on the iron claw game system only with furries. Anyone have any experience with that? or any idea where I could get the rulebook "cheaply"?

Eberron is pretty savage tech. I love it, but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it's the first CS to offer any form of support for psionics- P.S. Mamelon, Ethersphere, and I are all hardcore psionics fans. In fact, Mamelon is currently DMing an all psionics campaign. Metaconcert FTW!
Nan: That sounds like a neat game, actually. I will have to check it out once I'm off work! And you are more than welcome to be a friend.
Twilight Princess: It looks neat, I'll admit, but I've never been much of a Zelda buff. Probably because I harbor a lot of bitter memories of the Ice Palace from Link to The Past that I'm incapable of letting go of. Stupid Nintendo! DAMN YOU AND YOUR SLIDING BLOCK PUZZLES!
Actually, what discourages me from D&D is all the mechanics one needs to remember... It's simply impossible for me. I also had a really bad experience once, in Middle-Earth, when we were battling a few trolls for like three hours of real time, because there were so many things to count. When I'm the GM I try to use as little mechanics as possible, and make everything the way I like!:p No, not really, compromise between the Master and Players is tech.:teach:
As for Lo5R, it's great if you can really fit into the world well... For me, playing an honorable bushi, with all the protocol and formulas, was really awkward.:-/ Not to say I don't recommend it, but it's not for everyone.
Sorry Kemo, I missed this.
Yeah, D&D has a lot of mechanics, and it can be pretty complicated. My group likes the crunch, though. They get a kick out of all the math involved, and the numbers. Of course, we also do a lot of good roleplaying, too, and as a GM, I'm very versatile and flexible (for the record, so is Mamelon). So, if someone wants to just wing it, we aren't afraid to just say "rules be damned". I've heard complaints of combat lasting a long time in D&D, but I've only run into that once or twice. If you are pretty organized (all turn orders are declared, everyone prepares their next action during others' turns, everyone is familiar with their spells/abilities/attacks, GM is familiar with his enemies, GM doesn't go crazy with swarms of enemies he can't handle running, etc...), it can be pretty speedy. We tend to run very light combat through most of our sessions, and then have one big, knock-down, drag out fight towards the end.
On Lo5R: I'm sort of scared of it. I had a player play a shugenja, modified for d20 system in one of my campaigns once, and it ended up being an ABSOLUTE nightmare, so from now on, I try and steer away from any situations that can randomly immerse my players in Asian-themed adventures. Remind me to tell you guys the story of Jigen, the Shugenja from Hell, sometime.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Good day, peoples! I'm Ethersphere (Ether for short), resident rogue-turned-Spellthief of the clan. I'm the resident walking lexicon of all things console RPG, and the only member of our household who'll still give magic a try in D&D =P
I'm glad to see a lot of activity like this on our very first day as a clan! I'd been wanting a clan like this for some time, ever since I first joined MTGS, and now that it exists I'm thrilled. Finally, somewhere i can spill my useless knowedge and actually have people understand what I'm saying.
Every week I'll be posting a small collection of Mp3s that I have used or plan on using for gaming, or just pieces from console RPGs which I think are particularly memorable. Hope you guys appreciate it =)
Topic of discussion: Has anyone ever played (yes, played) the Lone Wolf series of books? If you have, OMG you get like 50 cookies.
Basically it was a 'choose your own adventure' style book, only it worked like an RPG. When you found a monster, it gave you printed stats for the monster and you rolled dice to fight it. It was sort of like those old text based games, only 50X better. I still have a character sheet kicking around somewhere... *finds it*
This is from around book 20-something, I think, meaning all my stats are crazy.
Rank: Kai Grand Defender
Combat Skill: 47
Endurance: 41
Gold Crowns: 50
Kai Disciplines Known:
Grand Weaponmastery (+5 CS)
Animal Mastery
Grand Huntmastery
Kai-Surge (+4 CS)
Grand Nexus
Kai Alchemy
My weapons were the Sommersword and the silver bow of Duadon. The Sommersword rocks! It's like an epic sun-sword deal that does crazy damage to undead and is otherwise awesome. I was also wearing some pretty sweet Kagonite Chainmail and a Silver Helm from book 2.
There were like 30 books in this series, and I borrowed them all from my friend, since you couldn't find them at the library or a bookstore.
Man I miss those Choose Your Own Adventure Books... you could go for days reading those... "ok what happens if i do this and this .... ok lets go back to page 42 and find out what happens if i went and attacked....blahblah"... it was awesome.. I never did that particular series but i definitely remember reading some of the Choose Your Own Adventure books....
My exboyfriend used to play Lo5R.. Hearing you guys talk about it stirs some old memories.. I never played or anything but he'd talk to me about it from time time to time...
As for D&D I've never played, but maybe this year, as i mentioned before, I may be joining a campaign.. Depends, really, on a few things.
As for console games I've just bought:
Dragon Quarter: Breath of Fire
Radiata Stories (Pisses me off that its not working right now.. *Growl*)
and will be buying Dragon Quest 8 from Crimson Avatar... I think those are the only RPGs I own tho, except I do own Lord of the Rings: Third Age, if that counts... I know its got a turn-based style of play... I'm also gonna be playing Kingdom Hearts when I can get the game from Ryan...
That sounds really neat. I'm not sure if I am surprised or not that I have never heard of it. Sounds so much better than Choose your Own Adventure- which I liked, but usually ended up dead. It never failed. I would have to read through the book 4 or 5 times just to get to the end.

Speaking of awesome weapons, what is the most awesome weapon you've had, in any game?
My character, Cais, had a magic rapier in one of our D&D campaigns. It was a +5 defending adamantine force rapier called the White King... and to top it all off, it was intelligent. It spoke telepathically, and could cast Cure Moderate Wounds and Haste on Cais 3 times a day. It was pretty wild.

I haven't actually had the chance to use it yet, but in Rise, my Magic Pen
I can't wait to see what kind of damage that does... As well as Erudition... Speaking of which, Photon- Arguas was telling me there was some kind of enhancement or something to that?? Something about it can affect more than one enemy at a time... ? I may be wrong, I'm just straining to remember what he said- it was a while back, been meaning to ask you but never did..

Your Magic Pen is such a neat idea. Rise takes the cake for bizarre freaking weapons, anyway. I mean, swords and stuff... sure, that's cool. And I'm even not too phased by people using energy blasts and such as their primary attack... but you and I take the cake with the magic pen and the death violin!
Oh, as for Erudition, I'm going to give people the opportunity to errata their existing level 1 abilities to make them match the sample abilities in the rules in terms of power. The basic level 1 attack Arts, Strafe, hits a group of enemies, and so it's strictly better than Erudition... which isn't fair to you, so if you want, you can change Erudition to make it target all enemies.

I have been playing various RPGs, like Vampire: the Masquerade, Legends of the Five Rings, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (old edition), Middle-Earth, Cyberpunk... but mainly the blasphemious game of Call of Cthulhu! Never played D&D, though... I got hold on the sourcebooks to the third edition, but somehow never me and my playgroup never had enough desire to use them. Has anyone here played Kult? I'd love to try it, but unfortunately it costs too much for me to have the books ordered from USA..
My old friend from college might still have all his CoC books and be willing to ship them to you if you cover part of shipping. I'll ask.
He does still play, and of all his campaigns, his favorites are Cthulhu games, so I don't promise anything. However, he is trying to return to finish college after a long hiatus so he might not have time.
edit: never mind, I just RTFP and realized you were looking for Kult books, not COC ones. :lemon:
2. Video Games- What are you playing currently? GTA San Andreas- Its just so different from the games I use to play. Also not much time to play more flavorful stuff.
5. MMORPGs- Like them, or hate them? Still learning.
6. Tell us a little about yourself and your gaming experience.
My life has recently changed for the busyier, with a full time career/mortgage and baby on the way, I have little time to actually just chill and relax. At least its a boy, so I know in the future he'll like to play some type of games.
Due to lack of actual friends you are gamers, I just know alot about WW and some about d&d, but never really have played.

Avvy from Le Gambit Extendo-Sliver Master of Death and Taxes
You really can't get away.
I've tried.
Hey people! This clan looks really snazzy. I would LOVE to be a friend!
Let's see.. where to start?
D&D: I play 3.5 now, but I used to play 1st and 2nd edition (AD&D) all of the time. My username is even based off of the Half-elf fighter/wizard I played all the time.
Currently I'm in a gaming group with 3 other friends. We're running 2 campaigns; one in Eberron, where it's based off of horror and terror and vile evils. (We're using the new Taint alignment system) The other is based in the Forgotten Realms; a converted campaign from 2nd edition, where our party has been cursed with marks of bondage that force them to do things they don't wanna do. I'm running the second one
My playing style? Well, when I'm in the DM's chair, it's about 50% dungeoneering, 50% role-play. I like combat, but I'm not about to just throw you in for no good reason. When I'm out of the DM's chair, I prefer to play a Bard, but I'm a halfling barbarian in the Eberron game (15 STR, 18 DEX :p)
Also, I'm well-versed in playing d20 Modern. I even constructed a long-running campaign based entirely off of Half-Life, the PC FPS. Converting a single-player FPS into a multiplayer RPG was difficult, but it was fun. We never got to finish it though..
Outside of paper&pen, I play mostly Final Fantasy and D&D RPG games. The top 3 RPGs of all time in my opinion? Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and FFVII.
So yes, friend me up! I'll be sure to pop in more than once!

8. Or, you suggest a topic!

Thanks, everyone. Hope this succeeds
EDIT: I played LotR: The Third age, before ^_^!!!
Helped you get what feeling??

Just add me on msn if you have any questions or just want to talk
Nan: That sounds like a neat game, actually. I will have to check it out once I'm off work! And you are more than welcome to be a friend.
Twilight Princess: It looks neat, I'll admit, but I've never been much of a Zelda buff. Probably because I harbor a lot of bitter memories of the Ice Palace from Link to The Past that I'm incapable of letting go of. Stupid Nintendo! DAMN YOU AND YOUR SLIDING BLOCK PUZZLES!
Hope you guys appreciate it =)
Astroboy, eh? Cool.

:lemon:
Second: I occasionaly do D&D type stuff. More video games though, mainly for PC because my parents still wont get me a Xbox 360... or a PS3.

Let's see.. where to start?
