yeah that's him. Whenever I see him talking I get this inexplicable attraction. He's got a great smile too.
This just kind of reminded me of something to ask: Am I the only one who doesn't ever really think anybody in a picture is more than not ugly? I can't think of a time, ever, when I've been particularly attracted to someone as a result of seeing their picture.
Well I can't say if you're the only one, but pictures sure do it for me. Of course, that might be slowly shrinking away the more I find people who use pictures to lie.

Ditto. Except for the lying with pictures part. (How does one even go about that?)
Simple. You ask someone for their picture and they send you pictures of someone else. Then they show up at your door hoping that you'll feel committed enough to hooking up with them that you don't slam the door in their face when you realize they're not a hot, muscular boy and are instead an ugly, overweight, hairy middle-aged man.
How's that for TMI?

Not really that TM, actually.
Oh, and I'd still slam the door. For a bunch of reasons.
In other news, a recent Advocate magazine cover has sparked controversy (I know, I was shocked, too) over the insinuation of the gayness of Superman. The LA Times did an article in response to cover both angles. So what do you think? Are superheroes (especially ones such as Superman or the X-Men) becoming icons of the gay community? Will that (or should that) affect ticket sales?

Here's the Advocate cover for reference.
Superman and the X-Men attract not only gays, but groups of anyone who has had a hard time fitting in. In that sense, they're not overly gay, and certainly not "gay enough" to make hetero movie-goers stay away from the movie. Movies make money because people want to see them. Even if Superman was gay and had a boyfriend in Superman Returns, it would spark enough interest that the movie would still do decently enough. In fact, I would say that if a movie has weak theatrical elemtns, it can rely on odd plot points to make money.
I'd never thought of Superman appealing to gays, in any sense. Mind explaining the connection?
First open the pic Mikey posted. In that picture we see: a.) a gorgeously hot boy wearing b.) skin-tight clothing. That's why superheroes as a general rule appeal to gays. Superman, in particular, is the ultimate expression of the ideal most superheros represent: strength, power, independence, confidence, etc. These are all qualities most people aspire to but gays in particular tend to feel distanced from.
Add in the fact that the movie's director is openly gay and skillfully wove a "coming out" scene into X-Men 2 and I'm betting the Superman prequal will be deliciously ripe for the homos' enjoyment.

I've never had the satisfaction; been lied to, but found out before the person showed up. I have a friend who had this happen to him, though, and slam he did.

Does this mostly happen through an online dating service or something? =\ I didn't realize people actually used those and had success.

Exactly. And apparently (according to Defamer), the new Superman flick is rife with as much homoerotic subtext as an episode of Smallville (which is fitting, come to think of it). And that's just from what little we've seen (which includes an image of Supes literally coming out of a closet).
I only bring it up because here are those who fear for Superman Returns' box office well-being as a result of its surging popularity with those crazy queers. Because we ruin everything. Like Batman. Personally, I think people are only making a big deal of this because Superman is such an iconic American hero and it makes a certain segment of the population uneasy to have such an icon associated with homosexuality in any way.
Come to think of it, homosexual involvement in comics is quite the hot topic right now as it is. What with the Batwoman stuff blazing up headlines, X-Men doing their metaphor thing (though substantially weaker this time out) and Superman gracing the cover of the Advocate.
Erasmus: Well.... I guess all I have to live by right now is pictures. So as much as I can I let them affect me. However the less I am interested in pictures the less I'm interested in looks altogether. I'm becoming desensitized to all the hotness but only to an extent. Like... I'll notice if it's not there but all the guys that I think are hot blend together so the only ones that stand out are the ones with other redeeming qualities.
Kraj: Some of us can't help that we're ugly. Granted I won't lie about it and show up at someone's door or whatever. But hey I've got this new thing to help me lose weight. I go to the gym every day or every other day, but, to ensure that I do, I tell myself I am not allowed to go pants fishing unless I've worked out that day. It's good motivation. Maybe I can make my body nice enough where people will ignore my ugly ^_^.
Hm... Comics and Gays. Well I've always been a fan and plan to continue to be. I guess I empathized with their situation about not being able to be mutant in public. But so do Jews and black people. There was Genosha and all the "marked" mutants. There have been many references to "slave" like situations. There's also been a lot of brainwashing and manipulation so pretty much anyone that's ever dealt with a woman or a government can relate to comics too.
I hope that there isn't a big controversy surrounding Superman. And bah if there is. I'll see it. I'll just make sure that I've worked out that day
o.o Wow... I haven't been here in a while. Um anyways! My birthday's in like... 10 days! Go me? *Holds up the whoop-de-freakin-do-flags and passes out.* Umm anyways I may have finally found a decent job so um... yeah thats um it? Yay!

Hey guys! I'm looking to join gaymers. I myself am heterosexual, but my girlfriend is bi. she and I were involved in a silent protest for gay rights at our campus. I feel strongly about gay rights AND about Magic!
Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}
It is with deep regret that I say I will be dropping by even less often than normal, because my dad has instated a one-hour universal electronics limit.
How he irritates me...
Anyway, so yeah. This is also why I'm posting at 3:30 AM. Because otherwise I wouldn't be able to more-or-less all day.
You can join the, what is it, four heterosexual gaymers?
It is a pleasure to have straight allies in the cause. What decks do you like to play?
In solidarity,
Nick.
thanks for the warm welcome! i'm proud to be a new member of gaymers.
the two decks that i built when i first got into magic were Bringers and Zombies (possible second turn kill with Hatred, two dark rits, and any of my twenty one-drops in my opening hand). Bringers remains a multiplayer favorite of mine for casual play. all of my friends got pissed at me when i had infinite turns, infinite life, and three 5/5 tramplers on the board. with two Bringer of the Black Dawn, a Bringer of the Blue Dawn, and fourteen mana, i would tutor with the black for a Beacon of Immortality draw it with the blue dawn, cast it before the second black dawn triggered, the use the second black dawn to tutor for a Beacon of Tomorrows. it was pretty mean, and when i realized people hated it, i shyed away from playing it a little bit.
what about you? what's your favorite?

Probably my favorite casual deck I built was monowhite that gained a crapload of life and won with either Celestial Dawn (don't have any Test of Endurance) or a Serra Avatar. In case of anti-combat, it had a couple Swords of the Ages It's not very strong, but I also had brief fun with a Darksteel Reactor deck that would get Energy Chambers and Sculpting Steels in play and then Fabricate for Magistrate's Scepter. *evil*

Just watched The Omen. Verdict: Avoid Like It's The Phage.
You know, when I first heard about it that's what I expected. Then the more previews I saw I started to think it might be good. Why? Because it looks like an exact remake of the original; like scene-by-scene remake.
So what was wrong with it? Bad acting? Substituted mood for cheap scares? Twists on the original that added nothing?
